HI all just have a quick question about introducing new things. I've only had Bailey for about a month so I keep giving him new things. It takes him a long time to warm up to anything. Is this the norm or is he just a little picky. Having a little trouble getting him to eat veggies, except corn. :( Any new toys he ususally stays clear for a about 4 or 5 days. Just wondering if this is what they all do?? Thanks, and I from Ohio USA He a very pretty Blue P'let. I think about 3 months old. Having trouble getting the breeder to send his hatch cert. He is VERY tame, had not problems with him not wanting to be all over me from the day I brought him home littleangel

Hi and welcome to the forum, all of my parrotlets are like that a little nervious when I put a new toy in their cage but then they tend to come round and start chewing it after a couple of days. If he eats the corn thats ok he will probably hagve a nibble at all the veg in the end, mine tend to like a little apple and broccalli to go with their corn, you could try cutting the veg up into small pices and mixing a little seed with it.

Hi Alfie, welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have a real sweetheart there!! :)

Have you tried hanging new toys on the outside of his cage for a few days before putting them in the cage? I find this helps a lot. Each bird is different, some will warm up to new things faster than others, but Bailey is completely normal.

Like Kev said, they tend to like chopped up broccoli mixed with millet. If you have a clip in the cage, you might try clipping a whole piece of broccoli or a slice of carrot. He might be a little scared at first, but later they usually like to attack it! :)

Hi Alfie wave welcome to the forum,it's normal for birds to be afraid of new toys for a little while. Yes try broccoli for another veggie mine love it. Also if you make whole wheat toast try that.

You know it's funny Jo Jo & Amos won't touch broccoli but Adam and Eve just demolish it. Oh another thing mine love is fresh corn on the cob :)

wave Thanks for the warm welcome. I'll try the broccoli and carrots and putting toys outside cage first. Always enjoy reading and the good info. I think I really lucked out with Bailey being soooo tame. Not sure if I have patience to train to do tircks and just what the heck is a clicker. Like the ones the nuns used in church?? Bailey would probable freak!!

We've found that they seem to be fascinated with whatever you are interested in  If you play with a toy & make him think that it's really fun, I'm sure he will want to see what all the fuss is about. That's how it works with our guys smug

Am in the same process myself of introducing new veggies... Have found that mine will try something if he sees me eat a piece first ( saying Yum Yum!) My cockatiels are still fussy despite my best efforts, however they adore celery, peeling all the threads off!
