Hi, I have noticed that Max's crop (i think that is was it is) is slightly swollen? He seems absolutely fine, he is eating and will step up etc but I'm worried there may be something wrong with him.

Any advice would be great :(

When parrots and parrotlets have been eating alot their crop looks swollen because it is full of food, if max is eating ok and seems like his normal self , i think thats all it might be, but if you are worried have him checked out by a vet.

Thanks, that is good to hear. He does seem to be eating so much at the moment so it is probably just that. I was worried because I had been trying to teach him to play dead earlier and was frightened I may have damaged him but he does not seem to be in any pain at all.

Oh the worry.....

As sky has said Jess their crop gets bigger the more they eat

on the playing dead, for a bird to lay on their back is not normal for them and most will not or do not like doing this at all, it may take a lot of training and trust for him to do this. Please if you are going to do this take your time and do not rush as you would not like to lose Max's trust if you force him to do this.

Yes I'm sure now it must have just been full from eating...he has been eating a lot more recently. It was just a shock to see as I have never seen it enlarged before! He was back to normal this morning!

As for playing dead....I wont be trying that again for a while!

Yes it takes a lot of trust for a bird to lay on there back. They feel very vulnerable in that position . The only bird I can do that with is my Amazon......she loves it but then she trust me.

Nikki's Torres plays "dead" I'm not sure if she learned that trick on her own or if Nikki taught her

Did you teach her Nikki?

This is Amos on her back, she loves to lay on her back and have me scratch her chest. :)
