 Ya, money's super-tight for us too after I had a sudden job loss like that .. do you have Petco nearby? I picked up Kairi's favorite toy there for like $2-3 on clearance (it's a big paper tear-apart toy that she's had fun with for months) and see bird toys on clearance like that pretty often.

Also, I just yesterday made a couple chew toys for our guinea pigs and wonder if a p-let might not enjoy the same thing. I just took 4 or 5 sheets of plain paper, crunched one up, put it inside the next and crunched it up and so on until I had a pretty good sized ball. Maybe run a string through it and hang it up as a sort of pinata type toy for the littleangel to tear into? Maybe even tuck a treat or 2 that he likes inside?
