Hi Rhea, if you want them tame, having a mirror in the cage is not a good idea as they will be more interested in the "other" bird in the mirror than you. Being as you have two they will probably never be as bonded with you as just a single bird would be, but they can still be made to enjoy time with you & should step up, etc. First, birds should never be let out of their cage unsupervised. there are too many things in a human environment that can cause them harm. Just like children, you need to watch them at all times. I would take one bird at a time into a different, small room (preferably a bathroom with the toilet seat closed & the mirror covered) & work with each bird one-on-one. Don't worry if they chirp for each other, this is natural. Try making a "ladder" out of your fingers & making them climb up your fingers repeatedly (stepping up), take some treats with you (millet, Avi-cakes, etc) & reward them for good behavior. Always be positive (birds pick up our emotions very well!!) unless the bird is biting. Let's deal with your questions........ "do they show signs if they want something back in their cage?" - Well, they might chirp or show signs of agitation if you remove something they like, but toys should be changed about once a week or so in order to keep them interested & stimulated. they get bored with things the same as we do. If you're asking about the mirro, see above. "what vegetables do you feed your p'lets?" - Some things are toxic to birds (avocados, etc) & there is a list here somewhere that lists things not to feed birds. You'll have to do search for it. Basically, most beans are fine, lentils, broccoli, carrots, sweet potato, pasta, bread, corn, etc, etc. "lastly how do u know they are loving the stroking?" - If they're not, believe me their sharp beak will let you know rofl rofl rofl rofl "oh and when do u think its right time to open the cage and let them come out?" - Anytime you can spend time with them is fine for the birds. They do need to eat & drink regularly, so if you have them out of the cage for extended periods, you need a play gym or somewhere that they can get food & water if they want it. I wouldn't let them out just before bedtime as they might take longer to settle in for the night when you put them back. But as I said, anytime is a good time really. "And how often do u bath them?" - P'lets are known for not being great bathers, but some like to be misted, others like to bath themselves(usually in the smallest water source they can find  ). Boo Boo likes me to cup my hands under a running tap & make a small "pond" for her to splash around in (I think there's a video on the forum somewhere), whereas Pesto won't go anywhere near water (stinky little swine  ). Just experiment & see what they prefer. P'lets have oil preen glands so they don't get "dusty" like some other parrots (good for allergy's). Hope this helps. Andy. |
