How short are his wings clipped? This is usually one of 2 options, either his wings are clipped too short & he can't get enough lift to "glide" down or they're a bit long & he's getting too much lift than he should & is flying too far. Both our guys have "crashed down" drats several times, it's usually not as bad as it looks & it's much better than flying into a window or wall, etc. Birds are smart & he should soon realize that he is not going far. The only time our guys crash land now is if they're startled  As I said, it's really not as bad as it looks, but you're a good Parront for being concerned. If he keeps doing it, take him to a vet or someone that is very good at clipping, they should be able to give him just the right trim so that he can glide down instead of plummeting. Usually 6-8 feathers clipped will allow them to still have a semblance of flight & avoid the crash :scared: Most people clip 10 feathers (called a "severe" clip) & sometimes this is too much. Again, he should learn that he's not getting anywhere & he'll stop trying. If you think he has damaged a wing, them take him to the vets for a check. Is he holding his wing strange or does it look bent or broken? |
