I also firmly believe that wing clipping is the way to go, especially during training. If they can fly away from you it's 10 times harder to train them. Also from a safety point of view we've clipped Boo's wings again. I see all these missing birds & think "if only they'd had their wings clipped, they wouldn't be missing". It is cute when they can fly, but to me, the risks are not worth taking: ceiling fans, open windows/doors, boiling water in the kitchen, windows they can fly into, etc, etc. All these hazards are in a house but not in the wild :scared: It really doesn't seem to bother them that they can't fly & they really enjoy being with you more when they're clipped (they probably feel safer & they enjoy riding around on your shoulder or finger). The only thing with clipping their wings is that you have to watch them every minute when they're out of the cage as they can't fly away from any danger. But as I said, I think the risks for a flighted bird are way higher than for clipped bird. But that's just my opinion, it's purely up to you as an owner. 2.gif I really dont want to get into the arguement for and against wing clipping. But as a breeder I would not advise anyone to have a baby bird clipped. My reason for this is... A bird needs to be able to fly to build the chest muscles up and if they cant then you could have a weak chested bird. There really does seem to be a misconseption that 'clipped birds' have less chance of getting lost, because they cant fly. This too I am afraid is not the fact. Wing clipping reduces the upward thrust, meaning the bird cant get the height, but they can still fly low. Also with a tiny bird like the p'let they only need a breeze to pick them up and they are gone. Again this is the owners preference but that is my opinion :)
