The opening titles for PRW Rage plays as highlights from the recent shows over the past year quickly flashes on the viewer's screen before closing out with the show's logo. Pyros blast out of the stage followed by fireworks above the ring, prompting cheers from the fans as the camera swoops around the Manchester Arena in England. Josh Brunswick and Doug Smith welcome the televised audience to another episode of action and drama, courtesy of PRW.
Brunswick: Hello and welcome to PRW Rage. Josh Brunswick and Doug Smith at ringside and might I say what a show we have for you tonight. And were starting off again with one of wrestling's largest veterans, the Oakster, who's already in the ring to address the crowd. Smith: It also looks like he's dressed for action tonight. Maybe a match on the books? Brunswick: Indeed, let's find out.
The show cuts over to the ring where Oakster, indeed dressed in his usual wrestling gear with his sleeveless trenchcoat worn over it. With the microphone in his hands and the crowd heavily cheering their fellow Englishman on, the giant begins to speak.
Oakster: Well I must admit that it's an absolute honour for a Yorkshireman like myself to get cheered like that in Manchester.
Laughter is heard from the audience, followed by sudden outbursts of affectionate booing and cries of "Leeds are shite!". Raising his eyebrows, Oak turns his face towards the lens of the cameraman standing in the ring, shrugging it off as friendly banter regularly seen in a British pub. Turning back to the crowd, he begins to backtrack ...
Oakster: Okay ... okay ... that was a bad move ...
The laughter continues to spread as a snickering Oak paces around the ring, eager to get his main point across.
Oakster: Anyway, there's a bigger reason why I'm out here tonight. The minute I found out that we were going to have a show at Manchester Arena, it was a no-brainer I told the higher-ups. Sign me up, I just had to be here. And it's not because I get to come back to my home country again, we've got three shows running in the UK this week. No, out of the three, I told them the show in this here arena, was the one I particularly wanted to do.
Another cheer from the Manchester Arena is made followed by chants of "Thank you Oakster!" and clapping. Though appreciative of the reception, the look on Oak's face has evolved from his usual smiling self to a serious look, scratching the beard on his cheek as he prepares to say his next bit.
Oakster: And there's a good reason why. This time last year, a horrific act of barbarianism happened when someone I can only describe as pure evil decided to detonate an explosive device during a concert in this arena, injuring hundreds of people and creating fatalities on the way. People who only came here to have a good time. Men, women, children, all indiscriminate victims in this crime. And to see people like that on the news all running in fear, all because they wanted to be entertained, it's heart-breaking to even imagine.
The arena has quieted down now. This is hardly a topic for a crowd like this to act rowdy about and the gravity of this attack along with its aftermath happening literally in the radius of where this show is taking place prompts a slightly teary-eyed Oakster to wipe his eyes out as he lifts his mic again, pointing his finger.
Oakster: Now I don't care what your political views are, and I don't care what your race, age, gender or sexuality are, I'm not here to make judgment on that. All I can say is that night the good people of Manchester, many of different creed, all united together to help their fellow human beings in this, a dark moment in the city's history, helping the hurt, sheltering the needy and bringing children back to their families. And all I can say to them fine men and women standing shoulder-to-shoulder, thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping. Thank you for uniting against this senseless act of hate and showing that we could never be driven apart. And thank you for all those who are in attendance tonight. An attack like that could have turned people away to fear from attending events like this, but you've shown tonight that you're not afraid to stand up for living the lives you all want to live.
The audience gives a respective round of applause to this thanksgiving, thanking both Oakster for his appreciation but also those brave men and women back in May 2017. Not wanting to take the spotlight for himself, the Oakster holds his hands up and joins in with the clapping himself. Wiping the tears from his eyes again, he concludes his promo.
Oakster: If I could describe my job in one sentence, it would be all that I do in arenas like this is to unite people from all walks of life and to help them enjoy this show that we have to present to you. And that's what I intend to do tonight. Just for you guys as my own personal tribute to this fine city, I'm giving you a special match tonight against a special guest opponent that I've hand-picked for this show. Again, my sincerest thanks to you guys and I hope you enjoy the show!
Upon his closure, the arena erupts in standing applause as the clapping and cheers is joined not with Oak's usual theme song, but more aptly "Don't Look Back in Anger" by Oasis. Dropping his microphone down onto the mat, the giant walks over to the turnbuckles and climbing to the second rope, he lifts his arm up in the air as his salute to the crowd. The production moves to a camera-shot ringside where the giant tron reveals a symbol of a bee, a sign that many in this city has adopted as their symbol of unity against terror. The crowd continue to cheer and sing along with the song as Josh Brunswick starts to speak.
Brunswick: Such a touching tribute from one Brit to a crowd of his fellow men. Smith: I have to admit, he's always been one to give the fans what they want, and tonight is like no other. I'd be interested who he has lined up to face him tonight. Brunswick: We're going to have a break now but find out afterwards who the mystery opponent for the Oakster is.
TO BE CONTINUED IN THE FIGHTING ARENA
