The spotlights turn on and the cameras begin to power up as Rachel Roenick sits quietly in her chair, quickly running her fingers through her hair as the production crew finishes preparations behind the camera. The staff raises the boom mic and focus both cameras on Rachel’s face as she inhales, then slowly exhales, one massive breath

--- Producer ---
“You sure you want to do this? You seem very uneasy right now.”

--- Rachel Roenick ---
“Of course I’m uneasy. He doesn’t know I’m doing this and to be honest, he’s not going to be particularly thrilled when this airs. We need to talk about this. The people deserve to know the truth.”

--- Producer ---
“Well if you’re sure, the cameras are rolling. Whenever you’re ready feel free.”

Rachel straightens her posture and then takes one final deep breath before looking directly into the camera, beginning to speak in a low, somber voice.

--- Rachel Roenick ---
“Good evening, for those of you who do not know me, my name is Rachel Roenick. I am the wife of PRW Hall of Famer James Roenick. I won’t take up too much of the show tonight but there is something that needs to be said, and it needs to be said in front of the world. On November 10, 2016, my husband came to the ring and revealed to the world that he had been diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis and the doctors were in fear of my husband potentially becoming paralyzed from the neck down.”

Rachel stops for a moment, taking a deep breath.

--- Rachel Roenick ---
“All he ever wanted to do is wrestle. That was his dream for as long as I can remember. And he isn’t one of those people who does well with failure. He can’t handle it. That’s why he did that Final Chapter Challenge gimmick. He just couldn’t let it go. No matter what the doctors said. No matter what I said. He had to try and prove to himself one more time that he could still go, even if he was hurt. It was stupid and I think he knew it. But ever since Joshua passed away, he has slipped back into that deep depression and it just breaks my heart because he worked SO hard to get out it after his life went to crap in ’09.”

The producer and his staff have all leaned forward in their chairs. They weren’t expecting this raw and uncut of an interview. This wasn’t on their format from Rachel.

--- Rachel Roenick ---
“When we finally got him good enough for a comeback, he was happy. He was truly happy. He was in a good place mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. Then Jesse got involved and broke him again. Not even his best friends and I hopping back into the ring was enough to steer him back in the right direction. And that’s why that 30 for 30 got delayed. It wasn’t laziness and it wasn’t something on our decision to not show it. ESPN flat out refused and froze the project when he filmed his final interviews. They could see he wasn’t right. We all could.”

Rachel wipes a tear from her eye.

--- Rachel Roenick ---
“But I will say this, to all of the fans who have continued to support him and our family, we truly thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your kind words and well wishes on social media are truly a blessing and a constant motivator for us. And it truly is making a difference. He is getting back to that better place once more. But that picture on his Twitter is a lie. That is an old picture. Someone hacked into his account and tried to stir up some drama. Before I could get it taken back down, it had already spread too far across the Internet to even try to defuse the situation.”

Hearing that the picture isn’t true causes the producer to rise from his chair and get closer to the camera. He tightens the shot, zooming in on her face.

--- Rachel Roenick ---
“That picture is not current day James. Let’s just leave it at that. But regarding the Superbattle rumor, that is”

Rachel stops mid sentence as the door opens up and slams against the wall. A voice from off camera begins to speak as the crew turns to look.

--- Voice ---
“The Superbattle rumor is true.”

The cameraman begin to spin the camera around but Rachel puts up her hand, stopping them mid turn. He spins the camera back to Rachel who’s face shows deep concern.

--- Rachel Roenick ---
“What are you saying?”

--- James Roenick ---
“They want me at Superbattle? I’ll be at Superbattle.”

The door slams shut as the entire room remains silent and in shock as the screen fades to black.
