Paladins never forget.

Black Knights Titantron

PRW Rage is live in Wichita Kansas in a sold out Intrust Bank Arena. As the PRW intro plays and the pyro goes off on the entrance ramp, the crowd begins to get very loud. Brunswick and Smith take their seats, welcoming the audience to the show.

Brunswick: Ladies and gentlemen, we are officially on the road to PRW Salvation, the show we have all been waiting for and Smith, if there is a theme that has dominated PRW as of late, it’s this: the next generation has arrived.

Smith: You got that right Brunny. Just look at the card. Lal Singh versus Paladin. Stevenson vs Samuels. And there are even rumors that Mordrad is going after the Undisputed Championship. This is definitely a situation where the new guard has begun to take over.

Brunswick: And perhaps no member of the new generation has been as decisive, as controversial, as our Internet Champion.

The lights dim across the arena as the titantron for the Black Knights begin to play. Almost instantaneously the crowd begins to boo, whatever respect Paladin had been able to garner after his title bout with Mordrad now gone. Paladin and the Templar appeared at the top of the ramp on their respective motorcycles. As the camera panned towards them, the two bumped fists before revving their engines and riding down side-by-side.

Smith: Controversial? Maybe. Dangerous? Absolutely. Paladin has returned from injury with a chip on his shoulder and gold still around his waist. He has something to prove, and he aims to use his challenger Lal Singh in order to do so.

Brunswick: Nobody was expecting Paladin to be back this early, especially Lal Singh. But, as we saw last week, the Black Knight of PRW is here.

Paladin pulled his bike up to the side of the ring and slowly removed his helmet. The sight of his face only served to renew the negative response from the crowd. Paladin waved towards them much like the Queen of England, smiling all the way as he entered the ring. Wire sat down on the middle turnbuckle, allowing Paladin into the ring first. Rider motioned for a microphone as he turned to address the crowd.

The crowd, which had thus far been focused on booing, fell into a hushed silence as Paladin stared into the camera. “So...did you lot miss me?” Paladin asked. The crowd began to loudly chant “no,” at which the large Brit began to laugh as he and Wire smirked at each other. Just as they had expected.

“Come now, surely you have a better response for me. After all…” Paladin slowly unzipped his biker jacket to reveal the championship around his waist. “I’m your Internet bloody Champion. And seeing as how I haven’t seen Owens or Ata around here in a while, it looks like I’m the man at the top of the PRW mountain. They say that the man makes the title, and by that account, this is now the most important and coveted championship in all of PRW solely because I wear it around my waist.”

“But...enough tooting my own horn.” Paladin said. His face turned more serious. “I actually came out here not to brag, but because I had a little story I wanted to share with all of you. Did you all remember my match with Mordrad at Christmas Carnage? Where he hoisted me up on his shoulders and launched me into my own motorcycle?” The crowd began to cheer, to which Paladin snarled. “Of course you bloodthirsty fools do. Let me tell you, I sure as hell remember it. I was lying in a hospital bed for weeks, going through surgery after surgery, listening to doctor after doctor tell me that my career was over because my shoulder would never be the same.”

“That’s right. That little moment that you all shared on social media and cheered for could have ended my entire goddamn career. And you think that’s amusing?” Paladin asked. A more hushed silence came over the crowd. “I understand that the majority of you aren’t big fans of me or what I stand for. I accept that. But after putting my body on the line just by even bothering to step back into this ring, I will have your bloody respect.”

“My expectations for when I returned were...reasonable I think. Right Wire?” The Templar nodded. “I didn’t want some big party to be thrown. I didn’t need some red carpet to be put down for me. But, at the very least, I wanted some people to respect what I had put my body through. So, I wasn’t surprised this weekend when I got a call from Ms. Cornbread asking me for an interview. I was excited really. A chance to share my story.”

“But you see...that’s not what she was interested in. Oh, no, a wrestler whose career could have been ended is already old news. She wanted to ask me about why I attacked Lal Singh.” At the mention of his challenger, the crowd began to chant her name. “Frankly, I was so insulted that all she wanted me to do was explain my actions, so I told her where she could shove that microphone. However...I will explain myself. Not to her, but to all of you.” Paladin pointed out into the crowd.

“There are two types of rivalries in this business. There are those built around the simply question of ‘who’s the best.’ Singh and I? We don’t need a reason to fight other than to show who the better competitor is and to wear this gold around our waists. A battle for glory.” Paladin’s eyes narrowed. “And then there are those rivalries that are a bit more personal in nature. And rest assured...my rivalry with Lal Singh is personal.”

“I would imagine that Singh would be a bit surprised by that. After all, we never interacted before.” Paladin explained. “However, that all changed when you came out to confront the Templar Singh. Do you remember what you said? I do very well, because it was about the only thing I could think about as I sat in that hospital bed.”

“Roll the footage.”

The footage rolls from a couple weeks ago when Wire and Singh were face-to-face. “I do not hide in caves. I do not plunder riches. I beat the insignificant and the impotent. I can beat Mordrad, cleanly. I can beat you cleanly, also. And I can beat Jack Rider cleanly, as well.”

“I quote…’I can beat Mordrad, cleanly.’” Paladin shook his head, his face contorting in anger as he looked back at the camera. “So...let me get this straight Singh. I nearly lost EVERYTHING during my match with Mordrad. My livelihood! My career! Everything I ever hoped to achieve could have been gone after I faced him. And you think that you can come down here after beating a few of your fellow rookies and claim that you could beat him easily...He is my dragon to slay Singh, not yours! I’m not just some stepping stone for you to pass over on your way to championships. I’m the bloody Paladin of PRW and I will bash your head in girl!”

“So...you say that you could beat me cleanly. Fine Singh. You’re on. My first championship reign versus your undefeated streak. At PRW Salvation, I will have my redemption. I will prove to everyone that I am more than just a fluke champion!” Paladin held his title high. “And I’ll do worse than just break your leg. I’ll end your bloody career.” Paladin dropped the microphone as he and Wire stepped out of the ring.

Brunswick: There you have it folks. At Salvation, it will be Jack Rider vs Lal Singh for the Internet Championship. Any thoughts?”

Smith: This is going to be one hell of a fight.”
