A soft piano plays as the scene fades in on the interior of a house. A knock at door is heard as Dixie Lanford comes into view. She walks up to the door and opens it. Standing on the other end is none other than current PRW X Division Champion, Alexander Owens. Dixie seems happy to see Owens as she lets him in.
Dixie: Alex I am so glad you decided to come.
Owens looks around as he takes off his cowboy hat and jacket, placing them on the coat rack.
Owens: Why am I here exactly?
Dixie: John finally came home! We went to the doctor. The doctor told him that hes finished with wrestling. Ever since then he has been sitting in his man cave playing the same song on a piano. He hasnt eaten in days and I think he is wasting away to nothing. He wont talk to me or even acknowledge me in the slightest. I thought maybe if he saw a friendly face, he would come out of this funk he is in.
The shock of what Dixie just told him washes over Alexander Owens. He considered Bane a friend and even though they had battled he still felt that Bane might be his truest friend in the industry. He had told Bane that he was going to end his career and he did just that. He was responsible for ending the career of a legend and it did not make him feel all that well. Owens asks Dixie for a glass of water as he waits. She brings him a water and he drinks it down and moves towards the double sliding doors into his man cave/study. Owens opens the doors to the darkened room as the light invades the darkness, destroying it quickly. Sitting in the middle of the room is Bane, his cane propped up against the piano he is playing. He plays what seems to be "Wasted Years" by The Eagles as Owens says hi and Bane suddenly stops playing, looking up from his piano.
Bane: Alexander Owens......I knew you would come.
Bane slowly turns around in his seat, grabbing his cane and getting to his feet with much difficulty. Bane slowly walks over to Owens and smiles.
Bane: Hello, old friend. What brings the X Division Champion to my door?
Owens: Dixie called me. She said you havent been eating. You look horrible. Why dont we go get a steak or maybe some wings and beer?
Bane now has both hands on his cane as he looks at Owens and says stone like.
Bane: No thank you.
Owens looks around the room that is well lit now. Owens sees that this is Bane's trophy room. The walls are lined with titles, including a broken X Division championship title that me smashed Manik Mercer's face into. The last space where a second title should be is empty. Owens looks around and sees many pictures of Bane with some very well known figures of wrestling history. A few pictures stand out for Owens though. Bane, Owens and Levitt stand together smiling, which causes Owens to flash back to a better time when all three men stood together against a common enemy. The last picture is that of Bane and Dixie Lanford in Disney in front of the castle.
Owens: I like this picture best. It shows you have humanity John. You know, for better and worst, Dixie is probably the best thing that has ever come into your life.
Bane: Yeah I know.
Owens: I have known Dixie a long time. I have never seen her like this with anyone. She worries about you and she will do anything to make you happy.
Bane: Yeah I know.
Owens: What she doesnt know is the only way you will be happy will be when you step into the ring.
Bane: The doctors have told me it will never happen again. I have been to every specialist and they all tell me the same thing, its time to retire. Something I have been doing my entire life Alex. My....entire....life. I will never smell the locker room again, I will never hear the roar of a crowd again, I will never feel that adrenaline rush after hitting a huge move. Its over Alex. My life is over. Now the only thing to sit here and do is wait to die.
Owens stares at Bane as he hobbles by his titles and achievements.
Bane: And what for? A few measly god damn dollars and a little bit of respect? No not even respect because every time I stepped into the ring they just said I was a sadist and a trash wrestler. No one really respected me putting my body on the line every single night. No one respected the damn fact that I took a title that sit on the shelf for over six months and brought it back from the dead. No one respected the fact that I spent twenty five years in a business that breaks your body over and over again only to ask you to go back out and do it again. So now I just sit here and dwell on my wasted life. I could have done other things. I could have joined the military and made a difference or I could have done just about anything. Instead I have lingering memories of people, who in reality, do not matter that much. I have hardware that wont help me get a job. I have a broken body that will not even allow me to do manual labor. So what do I do? I can live off of my savings for a bit but what happens when that runs out? Do I send Dixie back to work and have her break her body to support me? Do I send her out on the corner to pedal her wears to men for money? You tell me Alex what happens now?
Owens stares at Bane, who is visibly shaking, quite possibly from the pain of standing or the anger building up inside of him and suddenly he unleashes it, smashing the cane against the wall, smashing all of the pictures and the titles. Bane tries to walk and falls over in pain as he twitches on the floor. Dixie runs in and tries to help him up but Bane refuses her help while Owens just stands aside in shock at what is going on as Bane uses the piano to get to his feet.
Owens: Look John, I am not sure what you are going to do but why dont you come to Blackout. You can get in the ring and say a proper fair well to PRW. I know the fans want to see you one more time and maybe you can figure out what is going on next.
Bane: Alex, I dont need your damn pity. I dont need the pity of the fans of PRW. I dont want to see their faces and look at me the way that you are now.
Owens: Well ok then. Just know the offer is on the table. I need to get going I have some things I need to finish up.
Alexander Owens goes to leave and whispers something to Dixie as Bane hobbles back to his piano seat as the scene fades out.
