Time Between Dog & Wolf

-Recent signing Talib Dassa is sitting at a desk in his hotel, looking over the welcome packet he has received from his new employer, and chucking to himself as a result of the camera in his face, the former IDF member gathers his thoughts. He’s wearing an Adidas track jacket that does it’s best to hide an athletic build, and in the right light, he looks every bit the part of a future star.-

Dassa: There is a time during the day where the sun begins to set. If you look out at the horizon and you look straight out, you’ll see a point in the horizon where your vision is obscured and you can’t make out what you’re trying to see. It’s been called the “time between dog and wolf.”

-Dassa takes a moment as he has been speaking with his hands and as he makes the comparison between dog and wolf, his left being the friendly canine and his right being the more feral cousin to our domesticated pet, he pauses allowing for his words to sink in. -

Dassa: The meaning behind that being that from a distance, in that light? A person would not be able to distinguish between dog or wolf, friend or foe. What may look like one thing at a distance could reveal itself to be far more imposing upon closer inspection. Looking at it directly and in the moment, you’ll never be able to recognize what is in front of you until it is too late and the wolf is upon you.

-Dassa lays his packet back down in front of him. -

Dassa: It has been said that my talent is superlative and that I would be a coup signing for any company that would be willing to hire me. I have been labeled a marketable face with an inspiring story, a symbol of an ever-diversifying world. The son of an Israeli Jew with London ties, a Renaissance man for modern times.

Still, the actions of others have condition many to associate me with them, label me part of their misdirection and malice. Unable to distinguish between myself, Allan Proctor or Ashton Masters, I carry the residue of Project Horizon and it’s failings on my resume and have seen my personal stock drop as a result.

Looking out over the horizon, people couldn’t tell the dog from the wolf and we were all the same.

-Dassa raps his knuckles on the desk and grimaces a bit before continuing. -

Dassa: Quite a shame that, but like a proper dog, I stayed loyal and bud my time. I worked hard and anticipated a call or an opportunity only to see those opportunities extended to people like Proctor and Masters while I, the good dog, stayed loyal and waits by the phone for my attention, my opportunity. Hilariously enough, it never came and my entrance to PRW was by my own doing, and my entrance into PRW sees me entering a tournament against the men who initially stole my opportunity and the man who forgot to call and provide me with one.

-Sitting up, Dassa pops his collar and looks into the camera.

Dassa: PRW is looking out into their own horizon, trying to find their next big star. But they’re looking out at that point on the horizon line, their vision obscured. They hope that I’m still the same loyal dog.

—Dassa shrugs unabashedly.-

Dassa: I have every reason to be the wolf, every reason to be bitter, but the better part of my adult life has been built around loyalty, duty and honor. This opportunity is bigger than perceived sleights and it is my duty to uphold the honor and traditions of this industry in the face of an oncoming hoarde who believes differently.

PRW looks out to the horizon with clouded vision, a point in time obscured. They fear for what approaches them, unsure if it is friend or foe.

I’ve come to your feet to protect you, PRW. I’ve come to be your loyal servant.

For PRW is now my home, and it is my duty to take the opportunity and the mantle of those before me, upholding their legacy while creating one that supersedes them.

This is my time. This is my opportunity. It’s been a long time coming.

Could have been the wolf, chose to be your dog. Remember that.
