It's time to take PRW to a place darker still...

Jazz music is playing in the background as tonight's host, Lance Hughes, spins around in his chair, excitedly welcoming the crowd to the show. "Welcome, welcome, to Up Late with Lance. And tonight, ladies and gentleman, I have a confession to make." The crowd falls silent as Lance's face becomes serious. He stares into the camera.

"It's something that I have known about myself since I was very young. Ever since I saw a very muscular and vascular man in tights, I could deny it no longer. It is time for me to come out of the closet and admit to you..." Lance winks. "I love professional wrestling." The crowd cheers.

"So tonight, I was able to indulge a little bit in choosing my first guest. Please give a very warm late night welcome to Lady Luck herself, the Vegas Brawler, Barbed Wire!" Barbed Wire emerges from behind the curtain. It felt odd for many of PRW's fans to see her in a suit, but she felt the need to be more formal for the occasion. With an awkward smile, Barbed Wire made her way over to her seat. She seemed uncomfortable in front of a crowd when she wasn't fighting.

"Wire, welcome to the show. It is a pleasure to have you here."
"Thanks for having me. I'm very excited to be here." Wire gave a quick smile.
"You know, I have to say Wire, I'm a bit surprised that despite the fact that you make your living making men twice your size bleed, I'm detecting a little bit of stage fright." Lance winked at her. "Don't worry. I don't bite...much."
"Well, they don't pay me for my personality." Wire's dry sense of humor got the crowd to chuckle a bit. Her confidence renewed, Wire sat up straighter in her chair.

"Now, just to give anyone who doesn't watch wrestling a quick introduction to who you are, I wanted to review a few highlights from your career. And fair warning to the parents at home, this might get a bit graphic, so you finally have an excuse to put the kids to bed." The screen behind Lance showed Wire, her body drenched in blood, holding a baseball bat above her head. The photo was in black and white, but the violent imagery was still obvious. The crowd gasped.

"Rough night huh?" Lance asked.
"Exactly. Don't get on my bad side Lance." The crowd laughed at Wire's joke. "That's not my blood by the way."
"Indeed. And you know, I think it's because of images like this that make it hard for wrestling fans to understand why you teamed up with-" Dramatic pause. "-someone like Jack Rider, a man who wants to get rid of this style of wrestling altogether."

"Well Lance, while I'm happy that images like that get you all hot and bothered..." The crowd laughs. "Being a hardcore wrestler never got me the championships I desired. For all the talk about how the best wrestlers put their blood, sweat, and tears into this business...I found myself putting in more blood than any of them with nothing to show for it."

"So, would you say that you are a changed woman Wire?" Lance asked. "I thought red was the new black around PRW."
"Changed? No, I'm still as vicious and as dangerous as ever Lance. I wouldn't want my fans to be disappointed." Wire winked at Lance and the crowd cheered. "But instead of fighting for the fans, I'm going to fight a little bit for me and what I want. And what I want is championship gold. Jack Rider has it, and he debuted only a few months ago. I won't be far behind him."

"Can you tell us a little bit more about your partnership with Rider? How did it all come to be?" Lance asked.
"He gave me an opportunity to make an impact. To have a moment on a show I wasn't even supposed to be at. And to have him owe me a favor." Wire explained. "In a business like ours, having a nearly seven foot tall and angry Brit in your corner is never a bad thing."

"You know, I've been dying to ask you, how has management reacted to this?"
"To be honest Lance, I couldn't care less. Paladin is the kind of man who likes to hear himself talk, if you catch my drift, but a lot of what he has been saying was right." Wire's smile vanished as her eyes narrowed. "PRW claims that they care about their wrestlers. But tell me, would a company that cares about their wrestlers put on matches as vicious as what happened between Owens and Bane at Christmas Carnage? Matches like that shorten careers. Or would a company that cares about their wrestlers continue to keep a man like Kevin Mordrad around, a man who has time and time again has deliberately injured his opponents?"
"Well, the saying goes, it isn't ballet."
"The point is, PRW lives a lie. It's never been about the wrestlers. It's always been about turning a profit. And as much as we may deny it, violence and blood sells." Wire leaned back. "But Paladin thinks it doesn't have to be that way. That wrestlers can entertain without throwing themselves off of steel cages or hitting each other with chairs. And after years of doing both of those things with nothing to show for it...I agree with him."

Lance was surprised by how serious this conversation had become. The wrestling fan in him was ready to go but a Black Knights T-shirt as soon as he got home, but the host in him knew that this kind of chat was not what his audience was interested in. Time to wrap things up... "Any last words for our audience Wire?"
"Yeah." Wire turned to the camera.

"Paladin may be injured. But the Black Knights? We're here, and we're here to stay. I've heard a lot of fans express frustration that some of our biggest names, like Ace Andrews and Jesse Drive, have seemingly vanished. But for us...that means there is an opportunity to rise up the card sooner than expected. So, rise up and make a name for yourselves. And if you want a shot at the Internet Championship..." Wire winked. "All you gotta do is impress me."
