They've said it's all for show.

People have called it an act or a part of a gimmick.

People have criticized me for it.

Moreover, I've been mocked for it.

Going on quite some time now, people have taken the fact that I've mellowed as I've grown older, and more mature and they've deemed it to be on the same plane as Shawn Michaels' Christianity; deeming it to be just as fake and contrived as the Heartbreak Kid's born-again Sunday School act.

It must suck then, to be one of those people and realize that as time continues to wear on, you aren't going to get the same LeBlanc of old who would shoot off at the mouth and then pillage and plunder towns from coast to coast to stay true to his word. It must suck even worse to realize at this point that I have no need to do that anymore.

There was a time in the past where I would set myself to such a high standard, and find myself unhappy with any result achieved that did not meet that standard. It took me years to realize that this "standard" wasn't a high standard, but it was a perfection that I was seeking, and for quite a while? That perfection was an obsession and that obsession lead to a loss of friends, of family, and to the reputation as the surliest piece-of-shit to ever walk PRW's halls and corridors.

What I learned over time was that the "obsession" with being perfect was a gift and a curse, because it allowed me to achieve success beyond my wildest dreams, but it also clouded my judgement, negatively impacted my future and painted a negative cloud over my past. In older age I've taken more to giving back to the cultures and professions that have raised me, even with the knowledge that I took far more from them on the way to my success.

It may sound like Tony Robbins bullshit, but with age comes wisdom and introspection.

That introspection, has brought me to Marshall Cage.

Marshall, you haven't said a word, and for that I'm grateful. I'm thankful for that because two days after Thanksgiving, you have made it so I wouldn't have to rescind my sentiments and my candor about hoping you to be my successor. You have not made it so I would regret my frankness about the way things were handled and the way I hoped they be handled going forward. You did not make me regret saying that I should have accepted you earlier, and you did not make me regret being upfront in saying that I was a dick to you.

The problem here however, is that your advocate has run his mouth far enough for the two of you.

The problem with having advocates is that they often write checks that they won't ever have to cash.

The problem with advocates is that much like actual war, it's old men providing soundbites and young men feeling the brutality, the violence and the consequences.

Here's the deal: the continuous and endless commentary is that Alex LeBlanc and isn't the same man he once was. The commentary from everyone from Allan Proctor to Meggido has been that I'm not the same man I used to be and that I have lost a step. The common refrain is that I've gone soft. The common whisper is that it's all bullshit and the "Tony Robbins act" is a farce to cover up the fact that I'm not as good as I once was.

Again, they think it's all an act. They think the lack of an obsession with perfection, something that was such a trademark and hallmark of who I was, is a tell-tale sign that I don't have it anymore and that I'm "vulnerable".

The truth is? I know how this fight with Marshall Cage is going to end, even if Meggido claims that his client is going to chop off my hands, or some other banal line he's using to promote his client.

What is going to happen is that Marshall Cage is going to walk into the arena the night of Christmas Carnage and it's going to be the longest day of his life.

He's going to walk into Catering at 2:30 and have the same Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad we get before every big show, and he's going to pick at it because he'll be unable to eat.

At 5:30PM, he'll start to get ready and he'll start to lace up boots as he tries to deny the butterflies in his stomach and the cold sweat dripping down the back of his neck and the tingling in his hands.

A few hours after that, he'll be standing in the ring, waiting for the bell to ring as I stand across from him. His breathing will shallow. His chest will heave. His nostrils will flare. His pulse will quicken, and his mind will race with thoughts he didn't know he had.

And then?

Then he'll lose.

He'll lose because after years in this business, after mellowing and taking time to evaluate my career and the choices of my past, I've learned one concrete thing that might as well be as etched in stone as death and taxes:

I don't need to be "perfect" to be head-and-shoulders above my opponent...

It's a beautiful thing when you realize that, folks.
