Bane enters his cabin as the temperatures have dipped quite a bit in the last few days and the snow is falling hard outside. Bane gets out of his winter gear and goes and sits down beside Dixie, who is warming herself by the fire. She snuggles into Bane's shoulder as she hands him a warm cup of cider. Bane takes the cup and begins to drink slowly as Dixie closes her eyes and snuggles in closer and begins to speak.
Dixie: How is the training going?
Bane: Its not really training. Its just helping out some of the town folk getting some firewood to them from the land.
Dixie: Whatever you say. I see the way you are delivering those logs for firewood. I know you are training for this match. You are wearing weighted clothes under that already heavy winter gear you are wearing.
Bane goes to deny that but Dixie looks up at him before he even speaks, knowing exactly what he is doing then snuggles back into his arm.
Dixie: Anyway it was a great idea coming up here. We are getting a ton of quality alone time together. I think we are really starting to become close again. I am so glad we are alone.
Bane: That wont last much longer so enjoy it while you can.
Dixie looks up at Bane.
Dixie: What does that mean? Did you invite someone up here to train with you?
Bane: No, I was talking to the Susooks down the hill and they said the mayor invited all of PRW up here for that Thanksgiving feast I was telling you about. I have a feeling that a certain someone will use that as an excuse to get up here earlier and see what I am doing up here. Its not like im going to be very hard to find.
Dixie: You realize if he shows up you cant be getting into it up here. You have to stay focused on the match. You need to stay focused on training and healing. I want you to promise if he does show up that you will not get into another altercation with him.
Bane: I promise that I wont do anything but I cant say the same for him. If he starts something I will finish it.
Dixie: You two need to figure this thing out and patch things back up. You guys work better with each other than against each other and you could use a friend other than me on the road.
Bane scratches his beard and rubs his head.
Bane: Too much has already happened for that friendship to be patched up. It would be like trying to mend a bridge that been blown apart.
Dixie: I remember you saying that pretty recently about another broken relationship that is being mended right now as we speak. I remember you were so angry with me that you would not answer my phone calls.
Bane: That is very different. He isnt being brainwashed or controlled by an evil entity hell bent on my destruction. His actions are his own, his words are his own.
Dixie: And you should be the voice of reason. You havent been so nice either. You have said some things you regret right? You have done some things you regret right? You need to be the bigger man and you need to bury this hatchet you two seem to have before you both destroy each other.
Bane: Maybe one day. Right now there is just too much bad blood between us.
Dixie: Brothers fight. You two will eventually make amends with each other.
Suddenly a loud thud is heard outside followed by three strong knocks that shake the entire cabin. Bane looks at Dixie.
Bane: Expecting someone?
Dixie does not look back at Bane.
Dixie: No.
Bane gets to his feet as Dixie follows behind him. Bane throws open the door as a very familiar face is on the other side of the door, Alexander Owens. He is ill prepared for Alaska as he is not dressed correctly for the heavy snowfall or the colder temperatures. Bane just stares at him as his teeth are chattering. Dixie peaks from behind Bane as she sees who it is.
Dixie: Oh my god. You gonna catch your death out there. Why are you here Alexander?
Bane quickly chimes in that he hopes Owens catches his death as Dixie smacks him on his shoulder. Owens cant speak because he is so cold. Dixie tells him to come in but Bane blocks his path, not allowing him to enter his cabin. Dixie tells John to move but Bane is resistant in allowing him to enter. Dixie finally grabs John and says please let him in. Bane sighs and lets him past as Dixie is grabbing blankets and places Owens near the fire to warm up. The red hot anger from Bane's face is evident. He does not want Owens here, he is here to train and prepare for a match with this guy a month from now. And now he is here, drinking his warming drinks, enjoying the roaring fire that Bane froze over to get the wood for. Owens begins to warm up a bit as his teeth stop chattering and the color is coming back to his face and extremities.
Bane: Once he warms up I want him out of here Dixie.
Dixie: I want to know why he is here. Let me talk to him John. Please.
Bane sighs heavily in protest but Dixie's eyes and facial features show that she is going to get her way whether Bane says yes or no. Bane now sits with his arms crossed in his chair as Dixie goes back over to Owens and begins to ask him question.
Dixie: Alexander why are you here?
The cowboy looks down. He is going to have to swallow a bunch of pride to ask what he needs to.
Owens: I need a favor.
Bane scoffs as Dixie tells him to hush.
Owens: I need to train with Bane for this match.
Bane is now laughing so hard he is almost falling out of his chair. Dixie shoots him a quick look of death as Bane speaks out.
Bane: No way in hell that is happening. You are a desperate man Alex. You realize you cant beat me so you will ask for training and you will do something to me to take me out of the match at Christmas Carnage. No way in hell you are training with me. I'm not stupid.
Dixie: You dont need to train with John. You can and should be training on your own.
Owens: I have tried that, it doesnt work. I have done everything I think of to beat him. I cannot do it. This is my last chance so I am changing up my methods and what better way to beat someone than to learn from them.
Bane looks at Owens like he is an idiot.
Bane: Why would I train you to beat me? I like my title and I like where I am on the card, on top just where I should be.
Owens: You talk big but in the end you want to be the best. You want your opponents to be at their best when they face you. You have said this countless times and if you dont train me you are a liar. Training me only makes me better and if it makes me better it makes you better. It makes you find that higher gear, pushing you higher and higher until no one cant touch you. Come on John, just like old times lets train again.
Bane shakes his head as Dixie looks at him, knowing this is going to be good for him. Bane looks Owens up and down as he is still shivering a bit from the cold. He looks back at Dixie again and sighs knowing Dixie is going to let Owens stay.
Bane: Fine. You can train with me. If you are going to train with me you need to get some better winter gear. Dixie, go to the closet I think some of my Carhartt gear will fit him. Oh and Dixie, you owe me big time for this.
Dixie looks at Bane with a huge smile as she goes to the closet to get some gear out. Bane looks at Owens.
Bane: Rest while you can tonight, training starts tomorrow.
Bane goes to the fridge and pulls out two beers and throws one to Owens as the scene fades out.

Later that evening, Owens is still sitting in front of the fire; staring at it with a distance looking gaze. Walking up behind him, Dixie is sits across from him. He barely looks up at her as she does; his eyes locked on the fire.
Dixie: That was pretty ballsy of you to come up here, Alex...but I am glad you did.
Owens: Yeah...it was.
Dixie: Oh come on… what’s with the cold shoulder and stoic nature? That’s not the high riding Biscuit that I know.
Dixie smiles a Kentucky mile smile but Owens doesn’t bite. Instead he scowls a bit deeper and just keep looking forward.
Owens: That man died a long time ago. He died a little when he was giving “best wishes” by the PRW’s brass after busting his hump for peanuts. He died a little more when I had to take in my closest friend, penniless and strung out on more chemical than you’d find in a sludge dump, because this life chewed him up and spit him out a shell of human. He died even more when Gates tried to strip him bear. When LeBlanc lorded his position over me. When despite his best effort, he got pushed down and marginalized yet again. And that final nail...just ask your husband about that. Speaking of John, where’s he at?
Dixie: He’s out sulking. You know my Johnny...he’s all temperament and turbulence. I’m not worried about him. I’m worried about you. When I called you and invited you up here you seemed reluctant but accepting. I know it’s hard. John’s not easy to be around and I essentially just asked you to lock yourself up with him in the snow for the better part of a month. But like you said, you need his help. You can’t push your mind to the point it needs to be to destroy him. Maybe just maybe you can convince him of the same.
Owens leans back in his chair. He looks tired, drained to point of exhaustion. The emotional toll of the upcoming match with Bane was wearing him out at both ends.
Owens: Dixie, I respect you as person and love as friend but I honestly do not think you understand what you’re asking me to do. I can’t “fix” John. He doesn’t need to be fixed. He’s always been a asshole and nothing will change that. He was an asshole when we were close and he’s only grown to be a gapierr and wider one since.
Dixie: What happened to you two? For a while you were so close; like brother almost.
Owens, fingers digging into a chair, barely let his tone stay control; a rolling torrent of anger swelling in his voice.
Owens: What happened? WHat happened?!? John does what he does best...survives. He went into business for himself and left Travis and I hanging out to dry. He left the fold without any rhyme or reason and just disappeared. And when he returned I could barely get the time of day from him much less get him to acknowledge me. Hell he was one of the first people in line that tried to chew out management when I got my second shot at LeBlanc. A man I bared my soul to and he did what he always does best...survives.
Dixie: You know damn well that couldn’t help it. He was going throug..
Owens: Issues. I know. John’s always got some drama in his life. He’s always the martyr for the cause. The victim of circumstances. Some kind of hardcore savior that just does bad things because no else is willing to. He’s such a brave soul. Wake up Dixie. John's a piece of shit and everything he touches turns to it eventually. He’s got too much baggage to ever change. I had to learn that the hard way. When will you?!?
Owens bolts up from the chair and walks outside before Dixie can even say a thing. The hottest heat that burned in that fridge northern landscape didn;t come from the flaming hearth and it glowing cinders. It rolled forth from the tolling hate between two men that once deeply cared for the other. And all Dixie could was sob and watch; watch a Cold War level of struggle unfold before her eyes between the man she loves with all her heart and the man she loves like a brother.

Owens is seen sleeping in front of a well stoked fire. Suddenly out of nowhere Bane appears and dumps a bucket of snow on him. Owens wakes up in a fit of shock as he writhes around trying to get the snow off of him.
Bane: How did professional wrestling get its start?
Owens: Wha....
Bane dumps another bucket of snow on Owens, who continues to try to get the snow off of him from before.
Owens: Damn it Bane!
Bane: How did professional wrestling get its start?
Owens: Carnival strongmen!
Bane: Thats right.
Bane dumps another bucket of snow on him. Owens shoots out of his makeshift bed totally pissed off.
Owens: What the hell Bane? I got it right!
Bane: Well I got three buckets. Dont want that snow to go to waste.
Dixie bolts out from the backroom as Bane looks at her. She laughs.
Dixie: Looks like training has begun. What was the question? Where did wrestling get its start or Who was the father of professional wrestling?
Bane puts up one finger as Dixie laughs. She suddenly turns serious as she looks at Bane.
Dixie: I havent seen you in twenty four hours. I almost went out looking for you, I thought you may have froze out there.
Bane looks at Dixie and grins a bit.
Bane: Had to go to town and pick up some things, then I had to get some stuff together for our friend here. I got stopped on the way back and asked to take care of some stuff for some town folk.
Bane throws some bags at Owens.
Bane: Here ya go. Dont want ya to say I had an advantage or anything. This is exactly the same setup I am using for training, but you will find it fits you a little better and is in a style more accustomed to what you are used to.
Owens lifts the bags and finds they are pretty heavy. He goes into the back room and changes into his new clothes. He comes out looking like a lumberjack but is hunkered down a bit.
Owens: Why are these damn clothes so heavy?
Dixie looks at Bane and then back to Owens.
Dixie: They are weighted hon. Thats the only way John has been training lately.
Bane goes over to the rack and grabs a shotgun and some ammo, which he puts into his pocket. He looks over at Owens.
Bane: Grab a gun and some ammo. We need to go take care of something.
Owens goes over and gets a shotgun and looks at the ammo Bane hands him. It is bear slugs. Owens looks at Bane and then pockets a bunch of ammo. Bane opens the door and looks back at Dixie.
Bane: We will be back with dinner.
Bane and Owens leave and go towards the shed. Bane pulls back the tarp on a snowcat with a plow on it.
Bane: Hop in Alex. We have a way to go before we get to our destination.
Owens hops into the snow cat passenger seat. Even with the winter gear Bane provided the cold winds is cutting right through him, luckly for him the Snow Cat is heated as Bane starts it up and in a few minutes warm air is circulating through the cabin of the cat. Bane begins to drive in the opposite direction of town as Owens begins to speak.
Owens: So, a cabin in Alaska. I never took you for an outdoorsman. You always struck me as a city guy.
Bane: The cabin belonged to my grandfather, passed it down to me when he passed away. I dont use it much because its so isolated that it tends to drive me kinda bonkers when im up here alone. So I knew I needed the seclusion to prepare for this final match so here I am. I just cant believe that Dixie called for you to come up here.
Owens: Yeah. So what are we up to?
Bane: Headed up the road about 15 miles to a friends. He is having an issue with a non hibernating bear killin all his chickens. I have a permit from the state to take him out if hes is aggressive and we will pile it into the meat trailer I have behind me and have some bear for a few weeks.
Owens: When do we start training? You know like you have been the last few weeks while you have been up here.
Bane: This is it man. This is what ive been doing. Going around and helping the town folk. Listen I know you know some of my history but what you do not know is I was born in that little log cabin you were just in. When I am up here I like feeling needed. I take logs out of the woods and chop them up for the elders of this town, I take care of bear problems for single mothers. I like to feel wanted and they like having the help so its a win win for me. I dont consider this my home but they always treat me like im one of the family and this is really the only place I ever feel wanted. Ahh here we are.
Bane and Owens cross out of the woods and into an open area with a small home. Two more Snow Cats are parked outside of it with one of them saying State of Alaska Fish and Game on it. Bane parks beside the fish and game Cat and hops out with Owens in tow. The game warden pops out from his Cat and sees Bane and has a huge smile on his face.
Warden: John! I heard you were in town! I figured they would send you up here. Say who is your chilly friend here?
Owens looks cold as he shakes the wardens hand.
Bane: This is Alex. Hes a f...co-worker just up visiting, taking in the beautiful sights of Alaska. So what is the situation here?
Warden: Well the bear is up on the ridge. Ill take him down and give you some of the meat for helping out. The rest we will give to this family here as a proxy hunt. I just need you guys here in case he charges after being shot.
The warden pulls out his hunting rifle and takes aim. He takes a shot and hits the bear. The bear charges towards the warden but doesnt quite make it to Bane and Owens as he drops about 100 yards from them. The warden makes a phone call stating the nuisance bear has been handled and begins to clean the bear up. Bane takes some of the meat for himself and loads it into the back of a trailer. The warden thanks Bane again as Bane and Owens get into the Cat and drive off.
Bane: Up here we all look out for each other because that is all we have. Kinda like we used to be in PRW. You and Travis, Dixie, and I didnt have anyone else to look out for so we looked out for each other. When I came back, I needed to stay away from you. You strive for big things and you realize when I am around I get in the way of those big things. Right now you are striving to become the X Division champion when you should be looking towards the Undisputed Championship. When I am around you always set your bar lower for some reason.
Owens says nothing as Bane continues to speak.
Bane: Look Im not looking to be your friend again or anything but for what its worth I am sorry for what happened at SuperBattle. I let something personal get in the way and I shouldnt have. It was kinda dumb because we would have crushed Kevin and his group of slugs. But it is what it is and I cant change what I did in the past. Forgive me or dont, that is your decision.
The rest of the ride back to the cabin is silent as Bane pulls his spot and Dixie is there to greet him.

Owens is standing and watching Bane chop up the bits of bear that they had received from the hunt. Bane is doing a good job. His cuts to remove the hide were clean and precise; he cracked through the sinew and tendons with relative ease with the knife, creating a well buchter piece of wild game for consumption.
Bane: You know..I understand the silent treatment. I understand the cold shoulder. What I honestly don’t understand is why are you here. Why did you accept Dixie’s invitation? Because from what I getting, you really don’t like me and don’t seem interested in this whole process.
Owens leans forward a bit. His face is a little taut and rigid. He seems kinda lost in the moment. At the very corner of his eyes, there’s a bit of a sparkle.
Owens*wiping his eyes*: It’s just odd seeing all this. Being out here with you, watching you live the backwoods life. I never saw you as being the kind of guy that does this stuff. That you’d be part of this life. And on top of that I honestly don’t know why I came out here. I cannot fathom what I am doing here; what I’m really doing here with you. It’s all fuzzy and shewed. All I know is I have hunger. For what I can’t put my finger on.
Bane lets out a little chuckle as he finishes wrapping up his cut up catch.
Bane: I’m going to let you in on a secret. Despite what you may believe, I have never disliked you. If anything you’re the closest thing I’ve had to family in a long time. But just like family I can’t stand you sometimes. And more than that I want you to do better despite what you think.
Owens: Really? How so?
Bane: What I said earlier today is true. You should be fighting for a bigger prize than the X-title. It should be you that’s taking on Ace. Hell it should have been you that beat LeBlanc bloody and taken the title. You’d probably still be wearing it and maybe just maybe that title be worth a damm right now.
Looking at Bane, Owens’s stern gaze seems to soften a bit, then it turns into a laugh.
Owens: You don’t get do you? I know that. I know that the Undisputed title picture has been a revolving door of lackluster reigns as of late. Hell, Gates kept his mitts on it for two months so there goes credibility. But let me make something clear; it’s not lack of ambition that keeps me from the title. It’s lack of seeing a real challenge. Looking at the list of champions of late I’ve got wins over most of them. And the ones I don’t have a W with are only because they have shared canvas with me. That’s a fact.
Bane, amused by the suddenly liveliness of Owens, hulks the meat onto his shoulder head off to the “cooler”; a heavy duty lock box in outside the cabin.
Bane: If you believe that to be true, then why don’t you go for the “big” title?
Owens: Isn’t it obvious? It’s because of you. I want...I need…I have to beat you. And more than that, legacy aren't built with titles. They’re built with performances. LeBlanc,Nox, Inquisitor, Aries...you name it. They are pillars of this company, this industry, and it’s not because they have laid claim to the biggest titles. It’s because they put on the biggest matches, the best performances. I don’t want or need five lbs of gold around my waist to make me feel like I’m worth a damn.
Mouth curling ever so slightly at the edges, Bane press Owens for an answer.
Bane: Then what do you want and need?
Owens: I want to put my name on the wall of all time greats. I want to compete with the best and put on the best show, the best match every time I walk out. If anyone can understand that it’s you. That’s why I want to beat you for that title. You’re the only man that I consider worthy of making a career defining performance that not just gonna be a prop bet. I have to earn a win from you. I have to struggle and put in work.
Turning around, Bane looks Owens up and down. With a wry smile, he walks past Owens, putting a hand on his shoulder as he does. Smile still adorning his face, Bane speaks to his greatest rival and his truest...coworker.
Bane: You’re ready.

Returning to the cabin we get to see the bedroom of Bane as there are a ton of pictures from PRW and other feds he was in. A few people in the pictures are noticeable as Bane is seen in pictures with Randy Savage and his brother Lanny, a couple of pictures with Jake Roberts and one big picture with a very young Shane Douglas. On each side of the bed there is a title. One is from his younger days, The NWF World Heavyweight Championship and on the other side is a very familiar title, the old X Division Championship, which is shattered and looks like it may have been either taped together or glued to resemble the old design of the title. Bane is sitting on the end of the bed lacing his boots up, preparing for another trek into the wilderness. Dixie come in from the bathroom as she smiles at Bane, who smiles back.
Bane: Good shower?
Dixie: Oh man, that steam shower ya put in is great hon. Best shower ever. Let me ask you, does Alex know there is a steam shower in here?
Bane: Nope and he doesnt know about the heated floors either. I dont think he ever takes off those boots to see if the floor is actually heated.
Dixie laughs and goes into the other room. Bane hears a loud crash as Owens comes bolting in from the living area. He looks Bane dead in the face.
Owens: Steam shower? Steam Shower? You didnt say you had a damn steam shower! I have been using that shitty shower with no pressure this entire time.
Owens looks down and then back at Bane.
Owens: Why is your floor so damn warm in here. Wait....Do you have heated floors here too? Damn it Bane you need to tell me these things man. Ive been keeping my boots on to keep my feet from freezing. I thought it was warm around the fire because of the fire keeping it warm.
Bane just shrugs as Owens walks into the bathroom and slams the door. Dixie leans against the door with a sly grin on her face as Bane just looks at her.
Bane: Did you really have to get him all riled up this early in the morning? I havent even had my morning tea yet.
Dixie: Sorry. You know something I never understood about you. You are this strong guy, very manly but you like tea and not coffee. I mean you arent secretly british or something are you?
Bane: Nope. Just like the taste better I guess. I mean if you got the person who can make the best sweet tea in the world who needs coffee.
Dixie: Owens. And by the way we are out so you need to pick some up from the general store on your way back.
Bane pops off a quick two finger scout salute as he finishes lacing up his boots and moves to the outside, grabbing his guitar and a cup of hot sweet tea on his way out to the porch. Bane is strumming a mindless tune for a while as Owens comes outside and joins him. The sky is still dark as Owens looks up at the sky and sees the northern lights dance slowly and lazily across the sky. Owens sits in amazement as Bane continues to strum the same mindless tune.
Bane: Sometimes I just sit out here and think about things. Thinking about how I could have done things differently, how I could have done things better in my life to make things easier on me. I think about these things and I realize I would have done nothing different in my life. You see if you are just handed everything in life, if things are easy, you dont learn anything about yourself. You never better yourself. Of course I have to take the hardest road to get to my final destination. Lately I rarely sleep because I think of different things. I think of things I have done since I came back. I cant change the past but I can fix the future.
Bane sets his guitar inside and begins to walk towards town. The fresh snow crushes under his boot as he looks back at Owens who is still staring at the lights.
Bane: You coming farmboy?
Owens snaps out of his daze.
Owens: Where we goin?
Bane smiles at him as Owens catches up.
Bane: To the future my friend...and to get Dixie some coffee so she will cook us some breakfast.
Owens laughs as Bane continues walking towards the town.
Owens: Why is it still dark at 8:30am?
Bane: Welcome to Alaska. You should wait another month we wont see the sun till 11am and it will go down at 1:30pm.
Owens looks around as the two trek off into the woods towards town.

After sitting down to a hearty breakfast with Dixie and Bane; Owens is outside. He is knocking a steaming cup of coffee and taking in the sights around him. He had been here with Bane for nearly three days and he was starting to accumulate to the cold a little bit. What once was a biting cold now felt like a brisk reminder of the silent and still fury that nature could hold.
As he stands there, Dixie is hovers behind him.
Dixie: Whatcha doing out her hun? You’re gonna catch your death out here. Come on inside.
Barely rousing; Owens shifts his gaze back a bit as he drink another swig of coffee.
Owens: You know, John asked me the other day why I came up here. Why if I seemed so opposed to being around him that I came up here. I told him most of the truth; how i need to beat him because he’s just that good. How I needed a challenge, not a title. But that’s not the only reason. And I just can’t bring myself to say it...not to him at least.
Walking closer, Dixie puts a hand on Alex’s shoulder.
Dixie: Cryptic and withdrawn is not your style...so just do what I know you want to...spill it.
Owens: Always blunt and to the point. That’s what I always liked about you in our running days. I think about those often, don’t ya? I’ll sit and let my mind wander to those days and days even further back. It was a lot easier back then. No real burdens or strain; just fun and easy paydays. Things have changed a lot since. More than I care to admit.
Dixie: That’s part of life hun...change. But that's not why you’re standing out here freezing your and my ass off for. So; before my nipples fall off and become road spikes; just talk to me. If there’s anyone in world you can talk to, you know it’s me.
Owens: *taking a deep breath and pulling in a sob* It wasn’t easy; the end of the Biscuit and Gravy days. It hurt and not for reason that most people would think. Steve and I; we’d been inseparable for nearly four years by that point. As much bother as we were friends. And it was hard when our lives diverged; mine flourishing while his seemed to crumble apart. He’s in a better place now and I’m proud to be able to say I help him there. Yet even though we were like brothers, they always was distance in between. I did that on purpose because from day one I knew he fall eventually, that his bad habits would eat him alive.
Dixie: You can’t blame yourself for Steve’s failures. And on top of that what does that hav eot do with John?
Owens: I was getting there. I don’t think I’ve ever told you but I’m not an only child. In fact I’m the youngest of three.
Dixie: You had mentioned that once. I didn’t think much of it.
Owens: Well it’s kind of all in the past. You see I was the youngest,. My middle brother ,Kevin, was eight years my senior. The oldest, Robert Jr or RJ, was sixteen years older than me and was more of a second father than older brother. He was a magical mixture of Robert Redford, John Wayne and Patrick Swayze. God I idolized him when I was young. No one was cooler, wiser and more amazing then him. Being the oldest, he always seemed to know just what to do to make Mama and Daddy happy and never seemed to miss out on or mess up anything. I miss him sometimes soo much.
Dixie: What happened to him?
Owens: On top of being a good, not great student, as well as very capable ranchhand, RJ was a world class rodeo rider; specially bull riding. When he wrapped his leather gloves around that ropes and set his hips in, nothing sort of God himself could unseat him. He always wanted to go pro but my parents said he couldn’t..at least not until he got a good education; which he did, becoming a consummate wealder. I still remember him teaching me the basic. Even today I can still do mostly any basic welding task need at home because of what he taught me while he was learning.
Owens starts to tear up a bit and towards the end of that last sentence his voice wobbled a bit.
Dixie: You ok?
Owens: I’m fine. Getting back to story; RJ found himself at the Georgia State rodeo, riding in front of some very interested sponsors and promoters. Now I didn't mention this before but when came to RJ, good was never enough. If you asked him to bail ten rounds of hay, he’d do fifteen. If you asked him wrangle a trio of heifers, he move half the herd just to show he could. And on that day; all he had to do was ride a unbeaten bull a minimum of eight seconds to catch the eyes of those he needed to. Yet RJ, never one to settled, was determined to ride that monster a full sixteen just to show he could. And I’ll be damn if he didn’t almost do it.
Owens pauses for a second, holding back a waiver voice and struggling to keep his cheeks from moisten lest they freeze.
Owens: He hit the fifteen second mark and...boom. Something went wrong. Blame that hot humid Georgia day. Blame the blistering sweat that bull had built up. Blame fate. But in the last second; that ropes slipped ever so slightly and RJ toppled off that bull; who in it uncaged and riled rage; prompted to rear back and put every ounce of raging muscle and every fiber of strain siwen and bone into bucking back then forward; dropping it front hoofs right into RJ’s chest; effectively caving it in. The bull hands got him clear but it was not use. RJ knew the truth before anyone else did...at least other than me.
Visually upset herself Dixie, a soft crackle in her voice, spoke to Owens whilst listening in.
Dixie: And what was that?
Owens: He wasn’t getting off that dirt alive. And so, kneeling beside him, I watched him spit up blood as he gave me one last gee whiz smile and told me one thing. "Don’t ever stop dreaming, kid. When you stop dreaming is when you really die." And that was it. He was gone.
Dixie: I soo sorry. That must have hurt.
Owens: It did. I did for a long time but I never forgot his words,. They carried me through my brother Kevin running off, blaming my parents for RJ’s death. I carried me through high school and college; helping me push through fatigue and pain to become an All American student athlete. It helped me drive countless hours to get paid with a hotdog, a handshake, and five dollar bill for putting on match of the night all over the deep south. And it helped me get through the doors of PRW not once, but twice. And then it happened.
Dixie: What happened?
Owens: After my first match back as a solo act, I get stopped in the back by much older wrestler. Must have been close to twelve or fifteen years my senior. He has a John Wayne swagger to him and all he said to me was "Keep living the dream, kid. You put on a hell of performance. It’s moment like you just had that keeps us alive in this crazy world." Then he shook me hand and walked off. You know who that guy was?
Dixie: You got me. Who?
As Owens goes to answers, a gravely voice cuts in.
Bane: It was me. I still remember that day. You put on a hell of match with Knight. Then you told off Gates when he got snippy about your win. Even then I saw big things in you. Just like I do now. Come on cowboy, we’ve got a long day ahead of us.
And so, the two warriors, on and off friends, and the last true outlaws in this company walk off into the Alaskan afternoon.

Bane and Owens are seen in the woods, both men are strapped into harnesses as Owens is hauling a sled full of meat and Bane is carrying a giant log behind him. Both men look to be racing each other towards a cabin with smoke billowing up from the chimney. Bane unhooks his harness and goes to the door. An elderly man answers the door as he looks at Bane.
Elderly man: Hello John, how are you today?
Bane: I am good Mr. Nannook. We have some firewood and bear meat for you.
The man adjusts his very thick glasses and looks over at Owens.
Mr. Nannook: Bless my soul is that Alexander Owens you have with you today?
The man exits his cabin in just a t-shirt and pants. He walks out onto the snow and looks Owens up and down.
Mr. Nannook: Ahh yes. I see what you were saying John. He has the fire in his eyes, but is it enough. Oh yes. I see much of what you were saying.
Owens looks at the old man and then to Bane. The old man lifts up Owens mouth and checks his teeth and then laughs. He tells Owens to take the meat to the shed and put it in the freezer, which Owens does. The old man comes over to Bane and begins to speak to him.
Mr. Nannook: Very tough. I see what you are saying. I dont think he is the one you are looking for though. Do you think he sees his weakness yet?
Bane: No and even if you told him what it was he either wouldnt believe you or wouldnt work on fixing it. It is one of two things that if he fixed he would probably pretty easily beat me.
Mr. Nannook: I dont think fixing those things will allow him to beat you easily. You are a man who adapts and overcomes. All the things thrown in your way and you continue to thrive. Alexander will figure it out eventually but until then I suggest that you enjoy your time at the top as the best in PRW because when he figures it out you will kiss that goodbye.
Bane shakes the hand of Mr. Nannook and looks at Owens as he unhooks his harness from the log and slings it over his shoulder as he and Owens begins to walk away back towards his cabin.
Bane: I need you to realize something Alex. I need you to realize that just because I am sort of chummy with you right now and have been for a good portion of your trip does not mean that I will be taking it easy on you at Christmas Carnage. You have something to prove, you have said that over and over again. Well I have something to prove as well. I have to prove every single time I lace up those wrestling boots, every single time that theme music hits, every single time I step into the ring, I have to prove that I am the man to beat in this company. Night in and night out I have to be my best. There is no off season in wrestling so I have to wrestle through injuries. Through bruises and sprains, because I hold the most sought after title in PRW I have to be at my best. Every single week there is wrestlers coming into PRW and they think they all have claim to the title I hold. They aspire to be where I am and I aspire to knock them back down where they belong. Today I might be nice to you, almost your friend but when those lights lower and that bell rings all of that goes out of the window. You get that mean son of a bitch that you know all too well. I am not telling you this to psyche you out or to scare you. I just want you to be prepared for what is coming on that day. After the Thanksgiving meal you will leave and I will stay here and train until the very last minute. I will prepare my gameplan for you and as always it will be a very solid gameplan. I told you that you will never hear me say the words I Quit in a match and you think its just going to be hard to get me to say that but let me tell you that it is going to be just about damn impossible to get me to say those words in that match. You will have to kill me to take the title away from me. I will not quit, I will not surrender, I will come at you with every single ounce of my being until there is nothing left in my body. I will attempt to wreck and destroy you with every movement I make. There is no escape there is no referee stoppages. An I Quit match is the truest, most honest match in wrestling. You cant win with a fluke pin, you cant win with a countout or a disqualification. The referee cannot put a stop to the match. The only way that you can win is to get your opponent to pretty much say that you are better than he is. You said once before that you have to beat me. Believe me you have to beat me. You said this will be your toughest challenge. This is going to be the hardest thing you have ever done in your life. But enough about this match lets head home I think Dixie is making some Bear Steak.
Bane continues to walk as Owens stares at Bane.
