We're at the home of Summerfest 2017, the glorious AT&T Park, where for one weekend major league baseball will take a backseat to the real Midsummer Classic. There at the first base line in this big vacant stadium stands a man with his back to the camera. Wearing a fine looking suit, the man stands with his back to the camera staring out into the right field bleachers. As the man begins to speak, the unmistakable voice of one Joey NOX invades our auditory senses and reminds of just what's about to go down currently.
Joey NOX: And now....we're here. We've arrived Jesse Drive. You and I have found our ways into the hearts of the wrestling world. You and I, Jesse Drive and Joey NOX, we've done it. Summerfest is here, baby! Summerfest is here and it's only a few days away until you and I go out there and we stand across from one another in the ring. On a card loaded and filled to the brim with amazing matches from Ace vs Wulfric to Gunnar vs Owens to Cage vs Mercer to Levine vs Bane to your brothers amazing match vs Kevin Mordrad! But here's the thing, my man, all of those matches as great as they are? They revolve around what WE have created. To ape a phrase from Dusty Rhodes, everybody else needs to ride to another planet but this STRATOSPHERE we got is reserved for me and you!
As NOX delivers the last line, he turns to face the camera. Rocking his sunglasses, a laid back Joey NOX shakes his head with a smirk on his face. As the sun shines down on him, Joey NOX moves onto his next part, his head facing directly forward as he speaks.
NOX: Now a lot of you are going to expect me to get all worked up, pump my fists and shout out to the moon about things but here's what I'm going to say. I'm going to say-----nothing.
Joey NOX shrugs his shoulders. He has a rather laid back look on his face. Before the message gets twisted, NOX adjusts the suit on his tie and begins to speak in a calm and composed manner, a smile on his face.
NOX: Now allow me to get some stuff out of the way before that goes down in stone. To my supporters? I love ya. Thank you for taking this ride with me one more time. To my family? I apologize. I apologize for taking time away from you, I apologize for never listening to you when you said to let it go. I apologize for being a man of ill regard for your time. I apologize for being rude, I apologize for being nasty and I apologize for not being there when some of you needed me the most. I can't make it up to you no matter how hard I try. To my critics? I say I hope to once again leave you folks crying in your breakfast cereal on Monday morning like how I've always done! To the people like Sean Aries, Alex LeBlanc, Sylvia Wrath and Patrick Slaughter, I hope I can make ya proud whether you like me or not. Because without you guys, I have no reason to be motivated to still do this. I'm chasing your legacies, people. To the people of San Francisco who have given their hard earned money during these troubling financial times to come out and watch me do what I do? Thank you, I won't let you down. To the PRW fans who travel from all over the world to see Summerfest? I promise you I won't disappoint you guys.
And to Jesse Drive? I say thank you. I say thank you because this right here has been a lot of fun! I've had a lot of fun dancing around you verbally, matching wits with you on a day to day basis and absolutely clowning you from time to time. And I'd say I won every battle but that'd be a lie----but I will say that I made you sweat more times than you've made me sweat but after that? I'll say nothing.
There's almost a deep breath following Joey's words, like he's just exhausted himself. The honesty and the purity of his words have flown out of his mouth almost to a relief from the #1 contender. Joey calmly rolls his palms together and he politely tugs on his sunglasses, adding in a very little chuckle for good measure. NOX goes back to talking inside this empty stadium, his smile slowly creeping across his face.
NOX: See Jess, I've already said all that needs to be said! I said you were a joke and a fraud and I mean that. I said you were a fantastic athlete and I meant that too. I said you fluked your way into beating Ata Tatupu and I meant that and I SAID and MEANT it when I called you wasted potential that lacked the one defining quality to be great. I've said what I've had to say, JD. At this point what else is there to say about you? You and I are going to be seeing each other every day leading into this event from press obligations to fan events to TV appearances. You and I are going to be very very close and to be honest? I don't know what else there is to say. We've got our moment, JD. We've got our date and there's nothing else to say. The place is sold out, PPVs are going to be sold around the world. Our entire lives revolve around this one final event.
So at this point once I drop this microphone, there's nothing else to say anymore. It's your fake dreams about a legacy vs my real desires for one more run. It's your chance to say "I'm the man!" vs my chance to say "I've ALWAYS been the man!" It's a clash of schools, idealogieis and beliefs---it's two men representing two different cultures and two different ways of life. Jesse, this is it. You referred to me as a part timer and all I can say to that is that be it part time or not, you are going to get a full time all day WITH overtime ass whooping. You're gonna get time and a half on the beatdown clock courtesy of your boss, Joey. At this point JD----there's nothing else to say about it.
With that said, Joey adds in another shrug. He takes in a big deep breath and removes his sunglasses. His eyes looked focused and angry. His whole demeanor changes from the casual shrugs to the most determined he's probably ever looked. NOX speaks calmly, slowly and with each word containing passion and emphasis.
NOX: All I want you to do now Jesse is look into my eyes. Do it every time we're on one of these shows together. Do it when we gotta sit across from one another to film a media appearance. Do it when you pass a poster hanging up with you and I face to face. Hell I want you to do it right now as you watch this and I want you to rewind it over AND OVER AND OVER! Just look into my eyes and realize that this is real. This is real passion. Real intensity. This is a REAL man who wants to take what you got and what's to see just what the hell you plan on doing about it. THAT is real, Jesse. And the Summerfest is real. So now what are you going to do about a real problem like me?
And with that, Joey NOX calmly walks away with a scoff. He walks to the dugout and ducks out through the home team's dugout, the camera fading out slowly to a graphic for Summerfest 2017.
