Gunning for NOX
One of the highlights of the ‘Summer Carnival’ event that PRW held before Summerfest in June was an X-Division Championship encounter between then champion Joey NOX and New Japan Pro-Wrestling star Karl Anderson. The “Machine Gun” had an impressive showing against the champion, but ultimately came up short in his efforts due to his inability to catch NOX with his finishing Gun Stun (Cutter) maneuver. After he returned to Japan Anderson vowed to hit Joey NOX with the Gun Stun in the future, and has since sought out the master of the Cutter move Diamond Dallas Page. We can report that Anderson has been training under the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion, but the training wasn’t at first what Karl Anderson thought it would be.
Apparently Page only agreed to teach Anderson the secretes of the Cutter if he first becomes a practitioner of DDP-yoga, which is Page’s calling in his life after wrestling. Anderson reluctantly accepted the deal and spent most of his free time getting stretched out by DDP in his yoga studio. “It’s painful, it’s humiliating, and I’m not learnin’ anything that’ll help me in the ring.” Anderson bemoaned to our reporter last June. Although his spirits were low during the grueling yoga training the Machine Gun said that he’s ‘looking down the tunnel to the light at the end,’ which he said is ‘planting Joey NOX’s mug into the mat with the Gun Stun.’ Diamond Dallas Page told us that Karl ‘had a lot of negative energy clouding his chakras,’ and that with his DDP-yoga training Anderson is going to become a new, healthier, better man. “and that’s not a bad thing, that’s a good thing.”
Demoralized in his training Anderson at one point considered giving up and returning to Japan to focus on his career, but this changed one day when he spotted none other than Joey NOX training at the same studio. In an effort to rehab his leg and return to ring condition quickly, Joey NOX too sought out DDP and begin a yoga regime. “I watched through the window, I hid behind plants and I even wore a wig to disguise myself,” said Anderson, “I saw NOX really pushing himself to recover, and it reminded me why I was doing this in the first place.” While Joey NOX was focused on getting back into the ring at Clash of the Titans, Anderson refocused himself on competition and as a result of his yoga training was in good enough shape to make it to the finals of NJPW’s annual G1-Climax tournament.
“I was skeptical at first, but I stuck it out and hey, look where it got me.” Machine Gun told our reporter that he wants to avenge his loss against NOX even more now, and will be waiting very closely for the Clash of the Titans results to come over the wire. “If that leg of his holds up, if NOX walks out of Madrid on two feet I’ll personally make the long distance call from Tokyo and challenge him to a rematch.” Dallas Page has been pleased with Karl’s improvement, and we can report that after the G1-Climax tournament Anderson returned to DDP’s studio and is now being trained different ways to hit the Cutter. Shape Up, or Ship Out
The PRW talent relations office is said to be souring on Sofia Youngblood (who performs as WRATH), and are reportedly re-evaluating her place with the company. WRATH, the younger sister of headliner Sylvia Wrath, has been competing on the company’s B-show circuit sporadically for several months now, only picking up two victories in tag matches along the way. “We understand that win-loss ratios aren’t as important in this sport than others, but still, if you lose most of the time it makes us question whether we should keep you around.” Our source in the talent relations office told us that WRATH hasn’t been performing to their expectations, and furthermore, is somewhat difficult to deal with.
WRATH notably started a post-match brawl after her loss to Emily Hart in the group stage of the Lioness Cup, attacked her opponents after the bonus tag match later in the Lioness Cup, and more recently hit 6Pac Shakur with a Death Valley Bomb after their tag match ended at Fortied. “6Pac is a highly respected ring veteran,” our source told us, “what she did to him after the bell was unprofessional, and unacceptable.” The attack definitely struck a bad note with 6Pac Shakur, who has not been seen on PRW programming since.
Apparently talent relations have given WRATH an ultimatum, that she can start winning matches or she can stay on the indies. “It costs money to fly people out to shows and put them in hotels… so we better get a return on our investment.” The message has been sent to WRATH that she is skating on thin ice with the office, and that she ‘really needs to impress’ if she wants to keep getting booked with PRW. We reached out to WRATH for her thoughts on the situation, but of course only received an icy glare and no comment. More as the story develops…
