The Onslaught is Not Amused

Patrick Slaughter and Takato Kazama (and the fans for that matter) were led to believe that they would be facing NJPW star Minoru Suzuki at the special Summer Carnival show on June 2, but instead Suzuki sent two less popular members of his group to battle Onslaught. The two groups had a war of words before the event and Onslaught were reportedly very excited to perform for the New Japan agents and Japanese fans who would watch the match. But when their opponents turned out to be no more than Taichi and Lance Archer Patrick Slaughter said that Suzuki must have ‘wussed out of his own challenge.’ Kazama told the Japanese reporters at the event that when they get home they need to demand to know why Suzuki himself didn’t fight in his own challenge match, and then reissued the challenge to Suzuki to man up and face Onslaught.

Minoru Suzuki himself was not happy with the results of the tag match, telling the reporters that he thought Taichi and Archer would’ve performed better. Suzuki gave Onslaught the point that they were stronger than he assumed they were, and explained that the reason he wasn’t at the Summer Carnival was because he ‘didn’t want to fly half way around the world just to play with the kids.’ Suzuki said he punished Taichi and Archer accordingly for their loss on foreign soil, and said that he’s not going to let the Suzukigun’s record stand at 0-1 against Onslaught 'of all people.' Suzuki promised Pat and Takato that the Gundam is still going to teach them a lesson, but again avoided saying whether or not he was going to be the one giving that lesson.

Machine Gun Wants a Rematch

X-Division Champion Joey NOX successfully defended his title against NJPW star Karl Anderson at the Summer Carnival, and while it was a fantastic and close match the Machine Gun wasn’t satisfied with the outcome. Upon his return to Japan Anderson told the puroresu press that he almost got NOX a couple of times with the Gun Stun (Ace Crusher), but couldn’t ever connect with the finishing maneuver. Anderson believes that just one Gun Stun would’ve been enough to put down NOX, and that if he could’ve hit it he would’ve returned to Japan with the X-Division title. Anderson figured out the mistake he made was only attempting the Gun Stun from the one position, NOX had it expertly scouted and blocked the move each time.

Anderson told the press that he wants another shot at NOX, he doesn’t care if the title is on the line (if Joey is even still champ by then) he just wants another chance to face NOX and hit him with the Gun Stun. Karl said that he’s going to have to learn how to hit the Gun Stun from more than the one position, so he’s going to seek out advice from former WCW World Heavyweight Champion and master yogi Diamond Dallas Page. DDP is famous for being able to hit the Cutter technique from anywhere, so Anderson hopes to learn a few new ways to hit the cutter that NOX won’t be able to escape from.

Sherri Taylor Has a BIG Complaint

After her elimination in the Summer Carnival main event Sherri Taylor immediately went to PRW officials to protest the decision of her pinfall, claiming that Emily Hart was not legally tagged in when the ref counted her pin attempt. The tagging rules were enforced very loosely throughout the match and the road officials were divided on if Sherri had a case or not, so the issue went all the way up to the office of the commissioner. The Grand Inquisitor re-watched and reviewed the footage and determined that Emily Hart was in fact not a legal competitor when she pinned Sherri. IQ offered Sherri an apology, but she threatened to get Adam Xclusiv and Canary Kid involved to 'cause some trouble' if she didn’t get something more valuable than an apology. The Commish reportedly asked her not to do that and promised her something good to smooth the issue over, but at this time it’s not known what IQ offered her.

Bartering for Belts

The DDT’s Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship was traded multiple times at the Summer Carnival, being successfully defended (even though it wasn’t technically on the line) by Ayumi Kurihara against WRATH and Jenna Jett. The title was passed from Kurihara to Sherri Taylor to Emily Hart and to Sylvia Wrath in a matter of minutes, as is the nature of 24/7 rules championships. Ayumi didn’t want to fly back to Japan empty handed, but she also didn’t want to attack Sylvia Wrath in the middle of the Sheraton Hotel either. So she got her translator and started bartering with Wrath, and after a few offers were put on the table Sylvia finally agreed to trade the Heavymetalweight title for a signed copy of Ayumi’s bikini modeling photobook. With the trade Kurihara became the nine-hundred and whatever’th Ironman champion and took the title back to Japan, were it has since switched hands seven times (most recently via banana peel slippage).

Location Scouting?

Rumors are starting to surface that the PRW is taking bids to host an event, with the three most likely locations being the Los Angeles area, South Carolina, and southern Florida (which recently hosted the Slaughter produced Fortified iPPV). What exactly is in the plans isn’t known and PRW headquarters is keeping mum on the story, but it is believed that the company is planning to hold a special event to take place some time later this year.
