BEAT THE PROS PLAYOFF CHALLENGE!
A new game co-created by PRW and NBC Sports
As the fans who follow PRW know, a large collection of the PRW roster follow the National Hockey League religiously. We've all heard about Sean Aries' affinity for the Flyers, Matthew Logan's Chicago ties and the love-hate Habs and LeBlanc relationship. Some might even consider themselves hockey "experts" on the same level of NBC Sports experts Mike Milbury and Jeremy Roenick. With the NHL Playoffs beginning on April 11th, 2012, PRW stars were more than happy to release their predictions for the first round of games.
Except PRW offices had a much better idea. With the help of friendly associate NBC Sports, PRW has come up with a brand new interactive game for friends and fans of the PRW! This game entitled "The PRW Prediction Challenge" will feature Three PRW Superstars; Joey NOX, Sean Aries and Alex LeBlanc have offered up their predictions for the first round of the NHL Playoffs. It's believed that more wrestlers could be adding their predictions before Wednesday's first game. Fans can go to NBCSports.com/PRWPlayoffs to put their picks up against these superstars.
The Rules Are As Follows:
-All predictions are due in by 7:00 PM Eastern on Wednesday April 11th, 2012.
-Picking the winning team nets you 3 points. Picking the right game where the series ends nets you 1 point.
-Anyone who scores higher than all 3 (or more) PRW Superstars will win a DVD of their choosing, a PRW T-Shirt of their choosing and a title shot of their choosing! That's right! Guess right and you can be a title contender for PRW!
2012 NHL Playoffs Round 1 PRW Prediction Challenge
Eastern Conference
(8) Ottawa Senators vs (1) New York Rangers Joey NOX- The Ottawa Senators have an Alfredsson on their team. Aint no team with an Alfredsson going to be able to compete come playoff time. The Senators are also from Ottowa and haven't been good in about 10 years. The last time Ottawa one, Alex LeBlanc was on his 4th knee surgery. The Senators pull off a stunner in game 1 but lose the next four as the Rangers pull this off in five. Rangers in 5 in a boring series with only two Tortorella rants
Sean Aries- The Rangers have been murdering, all season. Credit to both The Offensive and Henrik having an excellent year. However, looking at this season, The Senators have beat the Rangers in their series, and have done it impressively on the road. It comes down to the fact that in the end, NY wants it more, and has wanted it all Season. Rangers over Sens in 6
Alex LeBlanc- Hard matchup because on the one hand its Canada, and on the other, its New York and where myself and Joey got started. That said, if I hear another "Potvin Sucks" chant from Nox, I'm going to shoot him. Shoot him dead. Rangers are still too strong, have better wing play and overall a better goaltender. Ottawa stands no chance, and Canadian teams continue to disappoint…just like the fucking Habs. Rangers in 5.
NOX- Rangers in 5 Aries- Rangers in 6 LeBlanc- Rangers in 5
(7) Washington Capitals vs (2) Boston Bruins
Joey NOX- If one was to look at this just based on records, it would have to be the defending champs in a walk. The thing is the Capitals are very capable of getting hot over a seven game stretch and catching Boston off guard. I think Boston is too deep, tough and playoff tested for Washington. I'm just glad Washington got out of the 8th spot because I think they're getting hot at the right time. Just not hot enough to beat the Bruins. Bruins in 6
Sean Aries- Kills me to say it. But Boston has advantages over Washington. Bruins have been consistent, through out injuries. Washington has had an abysmal year, cycling head coaches and Star Player Ovie not producing as expected. Its feeling like another "maybe next year" season for the caps. Boston in 6
Alex LeBlanc- Can the arena implode instead of picking a winner? Boston is a terrible city full of ingrates, deadbeats and pedophiles, and D.C. really isn't that much better. I can only hope that a hole opens up in the ice, Chara falls through it and we never see him again. Max Pacioretty says hi. Bruins in 6
NOX- Bruins in 6 Aries- Bruins in 6 LeBlanc- Bruins in 6
(6) New Jersey Devils vs (3) Florida Panthers
Joey NOX- Allow me to paint a scenario for you: It's a penalty shot for Tomas Fleischmann. Martin Brodeur is in the net for the Devils. Fleischmann gets the head of steam going as Brodeur resigns to his fate. Fleischman stops, says "I'm sorry. I love you" and then rifles it past Brodeur for an easy penalty goal. Brodeur retires at the end of the series only to suffer from bankruptcy and winds up as a back up in the OHL for some team. Panthers in 4
Sean Aries- Im going to have to give my bid to the Florida Panthers, As always I project marty crumbling by game 5. He's the workhorse of the Devils, but that doesn't mean that horse has been beaten to death. Floridas been in a constant battle for the top of their division, as well as the East. I can't see the Devils coming through
Alex LeBlanc- The surprise of the playoffs. Florida has been a sneaky, underviweed and undervalued team all year. The Panthers are better defensively, have a stronger offense and youth on their side. New Jersey is old, a bit of a rigid team and doesn't have the team speed to hang with the Panthers. In all honesty, Marty just doesn't have it anymore. Panthers in 6
NOX- Panthers in 4 Aries- Panthers in 5 LeBlanc- Panthers in 6
(5) Philadelphia Flyers vs (4) Pittsburgh Penguins
Joey NOX- Part of me wonders what would've happen if Chris Pronger didn't have concussion problems. Part of me wonders if it would've mattered any. When it's counted this year, the Flyers are 4 out of 5 vs Pittsburgh. Does that matter either? I'm not sure to be honest. I think you're looking at a seven game series with at least two games heading into extra periods and at least three players out with concussion related symptoms. There could be realistic arguments for both teams being "due" this year considering Philly had that heartbreaking Stanley Cup finals a few years ago and Crosby missed the playoffs last year. So many intriguing possibilities yet so little time. I'm going with Pittsburgh in 7 games, if only because I trust their goal tending more. Pittsburgh in 7
Sean Aries- I've been waiting for this. As everyone in this building knows I wear the orange and black proudly and this is no exception. Sidney Crosby is the Mr Turner of the NHL. Nothing would bring me more joy than to send him home crying. But I digress, The Flyers have had a progressive season, and the rookie trades made have been some of the most productive the NHL has seen in years. On the other hand, You have Pittsburgh..... *Sean pauses* ... Joey I'm having a really hard time trying to think of something kosher about the Penguins..
Alex LeBlanc- Sean Aries has blown up my phone, my twitter, my AIM and everything else with insolent messages about the Flyers and this series for the past two weeks. I get it. You're from South Jersey / Philly and you're idea of gangsta is Wayne Simmonds in a blacked-out Cadillac. That said, Claude Giroux is still in my eyes, the MVP of the league this year and John Tortorella was onto something when he stated all Pittsburgh does is whine. Sidney Crosby may be one of the best players in the league but he carries himself like a figure skater. If we're painting scenarios, how about this one : Crosby down on the ice in Philly after Rinaldo or Shelley drill him ala the Lindros/Stevens hit, therefore ending about 2 years of hype without anything to show for it. It would be like a Philadelphia version of Bizarro World. Hartnell Down. Flyers in 6.
NOX- Penguins in 7 Aries- Flyers in 7 Leblanc- Flyers in 6
Western Conference
(8) Los Angeles Kings vs (1) Vancouver Canucks
Joey NOX- I'd like someone to give me five reasons why the Kings can win this series. First person to do this with realistic reasons gets a title shot. Luongo is going to have an insane run this playoffs, you can practically feel it. No riots this time. Canucks in 5.
Sean Aries- You mean the Diet Flyers and the Vancouver Riots. Im going to go with Canucks in 6, but not after LA does some serious damage at home. I may tease, but ever since the acquisition of the womanizing bastard half brother of Sylvia Wrath, the Kings have taken 8th firmly from the other teams in the close knit race for a playoff berth
Alex LeBlanc- So its the Flyers West agains the Canucks? Great. So if the Flyers lose to the Penguins I can expect Aries to blow up my phone with "GO KINGS!" texts and break out the Richards jersey? Awesome. In truth, I've been high on the Kings all year. Mike Richards has looked great in LA and rejuvenated, same with Jeff Carter. Anze Kopitar is the most underrated player in the NHL and Jonathan Quick, not Henrik Lundvquist deserves the Vezina. That said, Vancouver isn't as strong as it has been in recent years. One of the Sedin twins is coming off a concussion and Louie has looked shaky…shaky and FAT mind you, in net all year. Kings for the shock in 7.
NOX- Canucks in 5 Aries- Canucks in 6 LeBlanc- Kings in 7
(7) San Jose Sharks vs (2) St. Louis Blues
Joey NOX- I still can't believe St. Louis made the #2 seed. Talk about crazy! This is one upset series I can get behind. San Jose does nothing to make you feel overly confident about them. There's a reason they're a 7 seed ya know? Also San Jose is brutal on the road and often times will find themselves trailing early. On the other hand? The Blues can't score. Also if you're a big believer in "streaks" like some people are (looks down below), St. Louis is 1-4 in their last 5 games. Do you trust a slumping team that can't score over a mediocre team that can't play on the road? I'll bite. I'm taking the bipolar Sharks in a stunner. Sharks in 7
Sean Aries- The Sharks have been on a downward slope since last season. By all means that doesn't mean St Louis will walk away with this one. San Jose has had THE TEAM time and time again and fallen short, while St Louis was expected to be sitting with Columbus this year. Playoff hockey is a different type of hockey though. I'm willing to take a wrong prediction, just for the sake of saying that St Louis will Wideman this run, 7 Games.
Alex LeBlanc- If only because it would be a great story, i would love to see st.louis advance. great story, great city. they've gotten ridiculously good goaltending all year, they've played smart and composed hockey, they play as a unit, they hit, they scrap and the coaching they've received from ken hitchcock, who is one of the best coaches of all times, has been second to none. he should win the jack adams award for best coach. That said…jaroslav halal…i miss you. come back to me… we had something going. i should have never cheated on you with carey price.. blues in 5
NOX- Sharks in 7 Aries- Sharks in 7 LeBlanc- Blues in 5
(6) Chicago Blackhawks vs (3) Phoenix Coyotes
Joey NOX- People are insane if they think I'm going to put my choice behind a Matthew Logan team. The Blackhawks have the talent but...yeah, no. Coyotes in 7
Sean Aries- Im not going to say why.. I.. ..in fact.. I know it's his pick.. Alex.. tell them our pick, 5 games
Alex LeBlanc- Really guys? As much as Sean hates it, Chelsea Dagger is going to continue playing well into the playoffs. Kaner is going to carry that team, nobody on that team can stop him, and even with bad goaltending, the Hawks still win the series. Hawks in 4, including the 2 in Phoenix where nobody except Alice Cooper shows up.
NOX- Coyotes in 7 Aries- Blackhawks in 5 LeBlanc- Blackhawks in 4
(5) Detroit Red Wings vs (4) Nashville Predators
Joey NOX- This may be the toughest series to decide. On one hand, Detroit is old. It may be the first team in the history of the NHL to have an entire line die on the bench due to natural causes. The Predators are Jeff Jarrett's favorite team so needless to say, I've got little interest in them winning either. The Wings have playoff experience where as the Predators have home ice. It's the toss up series and the Red Wings have what I think most people would consider the better goalie. It's a toss up but I think I'm going with big time experience. Red Wings in 6
Sean Aries- Every year I want to give them their shot, but they just seem too overmatched. Detroit in 6. If not because Jimmy Howard has had one the best seasons of his career, stopped only by a brief injury, but because of Zetty, Pavs and their inate desire to win. Rinne and Weber are no joke on the other side of the ice, but it's not going to be Nashvilles Season.
Alex LeBlanc- This one's personal for me. my grandfather was a huge wings fan, and …playoff hockey isn't the same without the old man around. this is the first year without him, and already I'm feeling the dread of puck drop without him. honestly..it might be selfish…but i hope we get a sweep. truthfully we won't. Regardless, detroit is too skilled. too good. too experienced. wings in 5
Greg- Red Wings in 6 Aries- Red Wings in 6 Alex- Red Wings in 5
