PRW.com Interview with a Psychopath* (or former psychopath) by Stacey Cornbread
Few people drum up such a fevered response as "Matthew Logan." His devil-may-care attitude catches the attention of everyone he meets, his impeccable in ring skills are something to behold, and when he speaks he holds the attention of anyone within earshot. When he first started in PRW, he was the loudmouth manager of Alex Legendary, someone whose speaking ability was somewhat lacking. When Alex was shelved with a neck injury, Logan stepped in the ring, keeping up his persona as a walkabout, debonaire, narcissist. He soon impressed management and soon he overshadowed his one time client. Logan's stay in pro wrestling as a whole has been a long journey from the East Coast and Midwest indy scene to HWF, to world tours until he decided to try his hand at mentoring. It is that same attitude he brings to PRW today. The former world champion began to turn dark. His arrogance led to a massacre and has turned him from a once jovial smart-ass to a sinister sociopath. The Matthew Logan I spoke with earlier today was neither of those men. He is a man seeking redemption. He is a man who wants to put his past trespasses behind him and reinvent not only himself but PRW-style wrestling as a whole.
Stacey Cornbread: Matthew, good to see you, it's been awhile.
Matthew Logan: Yeah, I've been quiet lately. I heard it bothers people so I just do it.
SB: Matt, the first thing I want to ask is why the sudden change of heart? You drop your number one contendership and proclaim you are tired of the "game" and just want to wrestle.
ML: Yeah, that's it in a nutshell. I'm sick of politics and sneaking and plotting and it just distracted me from what I really wanted to do. While I would be plotting and shit I would be like "And the endgame of this is a one-on-one match with blah" or whatever and it dawned on me that titles are okay. But when Hutton Brown and Godfather and Spardis play hot potato with the Undisputed title and through the shittiest, shadiest means it cheapens it. That belt has caused more undue not even pain, but just stress. It doesn't mean anything. It's the leftovers of failed companies. I'm glad that we've got guys like Sean and Alex and now Tommy bringing back some honor and prestige to it but how long is that going to stay, y'know? I'm not focused on titles right now. I'm sick of titles. Terry is pissed at me because in his eyes I cost him a shot at the tag titles and quite frankly they're not that big a deal.
SB: Some would say Terry is angry with you because you attacked and betrayed him.
ML: Tomato, tomahto, it's all a matter of perspective. Honestly, I just didn't want to be stuck in the tag team division, I mean if Slaughter and Xclusiv Canary are the draws of the tag team division someone should take it out back and put a bullet in it.
SB: Matt, that's the kind of attitude that has painted you as kind of an asshole.
ML: I'm a very blunt person; always have been. I was never good at beating around the bush, basically if I'm not direct it's a tell that I'm lying. So yes, I'm harsh, but I'm honest. I'm not going to lie to your face. The tag team division has been dead for sometime. The tournament did little to really advance it at all. Sure there were teams made but for the most part who stuck together as a team? Nobody. Tag team wrestling in general is starting to phase out, which sucks because I actually love tag team wrestling and trios wrestling but few people are willing to put their egos aside for the good of a unit and it's sad.
SB: So tag team wrestling isn't out of the question?
ML: Or managing, which I do really like as well. I wouldn't mind training and teaching a young tag team to try and light a fire in the tag division. But, honestly, I think it needs to start over. I think a lot of things though.
SB: Some would say that you won back a lot of fans by dropping out of the Undisputed title match at SuperBattle. Do you plan on entering the SuperBattle match.
ML: Fuck no. I hate battle royales. I hate them so much. There is no real skill involved in it. Any idiot can win a battle royale, it takes no skill; just luck. That's why Hutton Brown won his first time in.
SB: A lot of hate towards Hutton Brown?
ML: Yes and no. He's very set in his ways and that's fine with me but the way he does things just irks me.
SB: You were briefly in XWA, home of Lion and Hutton at some point, how did that go?
ML: I just wanted to try something new. Personally, I didn't do much because I was really busy with AR Dojo and just never really finding my groove. I'm so happy for Derrick though, he took the ball and ran with it there; I was impressed. But yeah, I had a handful of matches and won most of them, I think I walked out and that was my only loss. It was just boring to me. That's when I realized winning is easy, enjoying the match is the hard part. But I got to smooth some things over with Lion and Hutton and that was good enough for me.
SB: Now with your focus on "just wrestling" any opponents in mind?
ML: Oh, totally. I know for a long time I was a little shit who would only wrestle my friends but there's a few people I'd like to get into the ring with. I'd like to see what Ninja MAGIC can do one-on-one, he impressed the shit out of me in the tag match we were in. Sylvia is someone I would also like to see. Canary Kid too.
SB: So you do know his name.
ML: I learned it when he was beating my ass backstage. That's not to say I don't want to face my old standbys. I was completely serious about facing Alex. I want to have a one-on-one with Sean before he retires. And I would love to finally get my rematch with Joey. Anyone really, if they want to try and do what I do, they are more than welcome.
SB: Including Terry Bukowski?
ML: Especially Terry Bukowski. I would love to take all the credit in the world for that guy but he's had it the whole time. I'm not saying our match would be good because, no disrespect, he and I are too different to have a passable match. He's a headstrong brawler, I'm a Catholic, it'll never work out. But if he feels like that's what he needs to do I would be more than happy to oblige him and then tie him into little knots.
SB: So what are your plans for SuperBattle?
ML: Well, if Joey isn't doing anything, I know of an...
SB: Applebee's?
ML: *laughs* Ouch, no, I was going to say Outback. But yeah, I want to wrestle Joey NOX.
SB: Okay, this was surprisingly normal.
ML: I hear that disappoints people. "Oh, you're incredibly average" Yeah, I know. I'm through being an asshole. It got comical to a point. I would create all these schemes for like World domination and then I would just fail. I through with that, I just want to have wrestling matches now. Winding down if you will.
SB: Okay, best of luck to you.
ML: You too, Stacey.
And that was it. No insane behavior. No wily plots. Just a sane, normal, Matthew Logan. Only time will tell if it will stick or if it's for the best.
