PRW Announces First All-Female Wrestling Tournament…
This afternoon from the Fan Access Convention in Oakland California, the PRW Commissioner announced that starting later this month the female members of the roster will get to take the center stage in a tournament that will be know as The Lioness Cup. Hoping to boost ticket and home release sales The Inquisitor announced that the inaugural tournament will be filmed at a series of special engagement house shows, and the footage will then hit stores as quickly as the A/V department can edit it and press the DVD’s. “Not only will we be bringing PRW action to the often overlooked Northwest corner of the country, we will also be kicking things off with the only Southern California event scheduled so far in 2012.”
The Inquisitor made it clear to the press that the PRW deeply respects its female superstars and has regretted the fact that the women’s division dried up early last year. So he and the board of directors ‘put their thinking caps on’ and devised the first ever Lioness Cup, a tournament to showcase the many great female athletes on the roster. Eight women have been selected to compete in what will be a round robin challenge, taking place across four slightly smaller, “more intimate” venues than the normal PRW live event.
“We’ve got some of the top women talents ever to compete in the PRW, as well as a few promising new faces to mix it up.” The Inquisitor claimed that this will be the ultimate test to determine the #1 female competitor in the organization, and announced that the winner will be going home with the single largest trophy the company has ever commissioned. Although later in the day the boss had to deny a rumor going around that he quipped that the entire thing was just a scheme to, “get those slags working for their money instead of just sitting on their hot asses collecting their contract fees.” He certainly assured the news outlets that everything was ‘above board.’
The eight women competing will be placed into two groups of four, and each group will then compete in a round robin format for the first three dates of the tournament. Each victory is worth one (1) point, and the two individuals with the most points from each group will clash in the final match on the fourth night of the series. Also on that date the two runners-up will square off for third place, and the remaining four women will meet each other in a tag team match. The dates and venues were announced as the following:
Friday February 24, Viejas Arena, San Diego, California Thursday March 1, Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, Spokane, Washington Sunday March 4, McArthur Court at the University of Oregon, Eugene, Oregon Friday March 9, Taco Bell Arena, Boise, Idaho
Tickets go on sale this Monday and as always, card subject to change.
The lucky eight women who will vie for the first ever PRW Lioness Cup were revealed in a special video package that was played at the Fan Access Convention, which was later posted onto the company’s official website. The participants are as follows:
Sylvia Wrath –The PRW Wrestler of the Year 2011 arrived in the company at the same time the women’s division ended, finding herself with only male opponents from the get go. But to many observers’ surprise the “Wild Child” had no great difficulties in the battles of the sexes, and has been successful enough to earn herself a shot at the Undisputed Championship at Blackout next month. Despite these accomplishments the “Bruiser Cutie” says she is upset that she hasn’t gotten to face any female competition, lamenting the fact that she has had to adapt to face male opponents. “In this tournament we’re all gonna be evenly matched… almost… I do too many pushups just to get tossed around like a rag doll by guys like Slaughter. This time I’m the hoss, this time I’m the beast and I’m hungry… hungry to powerbomb some bitches.”
Regan Crowe –The Final PRW Women’s Champion, Crowe remains undefeated inside the squared circle. Her rise through and reign over the division was so dominant the company ran out of challengers. She has been mostly absent from the ring since retiring the championship, but a knock-down-drag-out brawl with the Mask last month at Salvation has rekindled the spark of competition. “Nobody ever took that belt off me… I am still the head bitch in charge here. If two girls are fighting in this company they better remember who the champ is.” Ms. Crowe said that no one has felled her yet in the ring and that isn’t going to change any time soon. “I’m gonna buckle my belt around that big ass trophy and show everyone what it means to dominate. The queen will reign supreme, belie’ that.”
Emily Hart –The protégé of former Undisputed Champion Sean Aries, Emily Hart competed for a while in 2009 but would eventually settle into a role as Aries ‘assistant.’ But with the emergence of the iPPV last year Emily has found a new place in the ring, providing backup to the American Dolphin in his war with Tracy Smothers. Enjoying a new found fandom through her roles in many PRW online exclusive video segments, the Heartbreaker has been hearing the calls to return as a force to the ring, and the first ever Lioness Cup is where she looks to plant her flag. “Something happened and I had to go away for a little while, but I’m over it, well, I’m not really over it, but I want to come back anyway.” She acknowledged the prowess of the other participants but expressed confidence in her training with the Stoned Kodiak, “Mr. Sean has taught me well, and I would hate to disappoint him… I would devote my life to that man, but now I need some me time. This is me time to-erm, I mean this is my time to show the world that I’m more than just a potted plant. This is my time to sparkle and shine.”
Sherri Taylor –A five time Women’s Champion, the 2007 Diva of the Year, and one half (the better half as some might say) of the PRW’s First Couple along with Adam Xclusiv, Sherri Taylor is easily the most experienced participant in this tournament. She was the first person to retire the Women’s Title in 2007, and the first person to win it back when the belt was reinstated two years later. Although absent from PRW competition for some time, Taylor asserted that all of her years at the top of the division have given her an edge that none of her opponents will have. “I was the best for a long long time, and that is just not something that goes away… If they bring the title back Sunday night I can guarantee you I’ll be a six time champ when the sun rises the next morning.” Taylor scoffed at the list of her opponents, claiming that her experience can counter all of their own advantages. “I’m the only true vet in this thing, all these other people are just little girls playing in the ring that I helped build… No one dominated the division longer than I did, and that excellence continues with this tournament.”
Bella Quinn –The forgotten third of the Violence, Party of 3 group that rocketed to stardom and plummeted just as quickly last year, the Scotswoman has enjoyed a few victories and suffered a few defeats on the house show and dark match circuit in her year with the PRW. But now with the formation of the all female Lioness Cup tournament Quinn has finally found a footing to reestablish herself as one of the top young stars of the company. “The trios deal was a great way to get my name out there, it really opened at lo’a doors for me’n the company but I’aven’t really go’en’a follow up on it ya know?” The Glaswegian Gladiatrix said that she’s quietly been picking up experience and that she’s ready to surprise everyone. “I know I’m the dark horse but I’m ready for it… I’ve been studyin’ all these ladies, I’m gonna know all about ‘em but they ain’t gonna have a clue about me.”
Jenna Jett –The protégé of former Undisputed Champion Matt Logan, Jenna Jett is a consummate technical expert priding herself on knowing more holds, more transitions, and more takedowns than anyone else in the game, other than the Despised Icon himself. Forging herself as a ring general in Logan’s secret evil volcano wrestling laboratory, Jett is ready to use the occasion of the inaugural Lioness Cup to introduce herself on the worldwide stage of the PRW. “I am the Cesar of joshi puroresu, I am a cut above the competition.” Jett explained how her “gargantuan” in ring skills will defeat each of her opponents, predicting a clean sweep through the tournament. “None of these girls can hang with me; I’m going to outclass each one of them, hammer them from rope-to-rope and stretch them from pillar-to-post… I am introducing myself with a roar; I will be the Lioness that shouts “I” at the heart of the world.”
Gemma Traumaward –Making her PRW debut will be “Le Tigre,” who on the independent circuit teamed with Sylvia Wrath as part of the “Blood Splattered Angels” group. Friends since high school, Traumaward’s biggest exposure in the business came earlier this winter when she reunited with Sylvia Wrath for a short while in the XWA. Of course scouts for the PRW were watching, and they were impressed with her performance (or at least that’s the company line, denying the rumor that she was just a cheap fill-in). “The Neko Girl” expressed that she is very excited and humbled to be given the incredible opportunity to compete for the first Lioness Cup, and feels that she has a special advantage going into the tournament. “Everyone knows Syl Chan’s gonna win it anyways, but I gotta leg up on this… I know her better than anyone, I know her inside and out and I am gonna use that to pull the upset.” She went on to say how she is going to use the publicity of the tournament to raise awareness about poaching… and then trailed off about a myriad of subjects, mentioning climate change, growth hormones in food, and farm salmon. She concluded the phone interview with this: “There’s a lot of sick penguins in the world and no one is speaking up for them… I’m going to be the voice for the voiceless, well, voiceless in the sense that that they can only speak using quacks…"
WRATH –Sylvia Wrath’s “little” sister, standing at six foot even she will actually be the largest competitor in the tournament. Her first appearance for the PRW was an impressive, albeit losing effort against the Xclusiv Canary in their first outing as a team at the “It Takes Two” event. The talent scouts liked what they saw and have invited her back to compete in the first ever Lioness Cup tournament. “I have been dreaming of this day for a long time… All I have ever wanted to do is perform in front of thousands of people.” In addition to being the strongest participant, “The Lolicon Devil” will also be the youngest, having just turned 21 a few months ago. “I… I think I can handle the pressure. I know I’m just as good, stronger, faster, and hungrier than the others, and if I don’t crumble under pressure I know I can win this.” WRATH said that she is her sister’s biggest fan in the world, but also that she wants to carve out her own career. “I’m always advertised on every indie show as ‘PRW superstar Sylvia Wrath’s sister,’ I’m ready to stand on my own accomplishments.”

Lioness Cup Blocks Announced…
Early this week PRW announced on their website the group placing for the first ever Lioness Cup, which starts this Friday night in San Diego California. At a small press conference that was clipped for a video on the 24/7 YouTube channel, The Inquisitor and his lovely secretary drew names out of a ball tumbler and placed them into their groups…
Block A -Bella Quinn -Sylvia Wrath -Jenna Jett -Gemma Traumaward
Block B -Sherri Taylor -Regan Crowe -WRATH -Emily Hart
After hearing the draws a number of the participants were reached for comment. Sylvia Wrath was pleased to be grouped with two of her friends, but promised was that she won’t go easy on them. Bella Quinn felt confident and liked her chances with two other lower profile wrestlers in her group, but she did nervously joke about getting steamrolled by her former Violence teammate. Gemma Traumaward might not have been caught at the best time for comment, frequently spacing out while mixing up talking about stretching out her opponents and stretching in yoga class. Jenna Jett was by far the most self-confident and promised a clean sweep of the block, summarily dismissing Quinn and Traumaward. Facing the 2011 Wrestler of the Year Sylvia Wrath did cause her to pause, but she assured us that Wrath can’t wrestle her way out of a paper bag, and that she is going to, “out wrestle her into a paper bag, out wrestle her out of the paper bag, and then out wrestle her into a reusable and stylish designer hemp tote bag.”
The mood was a little different on the B block side, with both Regan Crowe and Sherri Taylor promising punishment to their opponents. Crowe said that she is going to continue being boss, and Taylor explained how her wisdom and experience outmatches everyone in both block A and B. WRATH sounded nervous when talking about her opponents, but did sound confident in explaining how she plans on physically bullying them. Instead of talking about her opponents Emily Hart chose to talk about herself, expressing her excitement for the tournament and the chance to finally be the one in the spotlight. She went on to say how she has been dreaming of this every night since the event was announced, and promised to put every bit of her heart and soul into her quest for the trophy.
The first ever Lioness cup will be filmed over the next two weeks at four different “special engagement” shows, and will be released on DVD and Blu-ray later this spring.
