The scene was backstage of Korakuen Hall. Ata Tatupu standing, still clad in her wrestling attire. A white towel was around her neck. Her hair was matted and her face was still a bit moist from perspiration. Standing next to her was a fan holding a microphone. Said fan had long brown hair that reached her shoulders. She wore a black PRW Dirtsheets cap on her head and a white Wild Hearts shirt with jeans. After looking at the camera for a few seconds, the woman brought the microphone up to her lips and spoke in Japanese. For the benefit of the English-speaking fans, her words were translated in English and put on the bottom in subtitles.
“Hello, this is Sakura Makihara. I was chosen by PRW Dirstsheets in a fan contest to interview a wrestler backstage at a show during the Wild Hearts Asian Tour. I’m here with none other than Onslaught member and leader of The Outlaws, Ata Tatupu. How are you feeling today?”
“I’m feeling pretty good,” Ata said with a smile, also speaking in Japanese. “I always like performing in Japan – especially since I got the winning fall for my team in the main event.”
“Not only that, but you managed to end things off by taking down both Meiko and Gemma before dropping Haruna with The Miami Shine. Is that a new move in your arsenal?”
“Yeah, I decided to give it a trial run tonight.” As Ata said this, she cocked her head to the side briefly. “Every now and again, I try to add something to my move set or tendencies ahead of a big match, a move or stepping up my Jiu-jitsu and Kickboxing game. So, you’ll be seeing more of The Miami Shine in the future.”
After nodding a few times, Sakura continued. “So, 2015 was an up and down year for you…”
“Thanks for reminding me,” Ata interjected with a sour look. She then smiled and winked at Sakura to show she was joking. Smiling, Sakura continued.
“Well, you went on quite the rampage, but fell short in beating Meiko at 18th Beat. Do you think your performance tonight was important in making a statement?”
“I do.” Ata grabbed an end of her towel and wiped her brow. “Truth be told, I was extremely disappointed in myself after the match. A lot of people close to me were like ‘Oh, you have nothing to be ashamed of. You did a great job. BLAH BLAH BLAH’. But I truly believe that I’m the best wrestler in Wild Hearts and one of the best wrestlers in PRW, period. For me to lose to Meiko is just flat out unacceptable. So I came into the match making a statement, and I think I made that statement loud and clear.”
“Speaking of statements, you said that you were going after The Wild Tigers again. People want to know – when will this feud going to end?”
Ata did a quick Yano shrug. “It was supposed to be over after Shinigami Realm. I beat the Wild Tigers earlier that year, and I kept Gemma’s name out of my mouth for a good while after that, even when she was talking trash about me after the fact. But then she wanted to Fireball La Chispa’s face and tried to weasel her way out of a suspension and make me out to the bad guy during the appeal. So, for six months, she’s going to see me run through the Tigers, then finish her off when her suspension is done. But, to answer the question... that's something you should ask them. I wasn't the one who reignited things.”
“Well, moving on from that, you’re going to be more active on the main PRW scene. Word around back is that you’re going to be taking Parker Cage Summers’ place as La Torre Dorado’s partner at Blackout. Is that correct?”
“That is correct,” Ata said. “I’m going to be teaming up with La Torre Dorado to take care of Anarchy, Inc. And hopefully, make a run at the PRW Tag Team Championship should they be reinstated this year. If we’re tag champs by the time Parker recovers, though, I’ll Freebird the belt on him – he deserves it more than I do, even if I was a Tag Team Champion before, albeit unofficially.”
“But before that, you’re going up against Agustin Gates for the Internet Championship. Agustin has raised the ire of many a PRW wrestler. But, he certainly especially angered you with his online antics aimed towards Takato Kazama and, recently, you. How much does this match mean to you?”
“Takato Kazama is my little brother. If it wasn’t for him, I probably wouldn’t even be in PRW and I wouldn’t have met Patrick. So, I always take it some kind of way whenever someone targets him - as you can see from what I did to Haruna. And Agustin has been targeting him for a long time. And when you add what he did to La Chispa… taking the Internet Championship off of him would be the sweetest joy.”
“Okay, last question – will we ever see an AWS show in Japan.”
Ata smiled coyly. “I can’t reveal AWS plans regarding a foreign excursion at this moment.”
Ata then looked into the camera and mouthed in English “We’re coming to Japan.”
“Thank you, Ata.”
“Thank you,” Ata replied. She looked back to the camera and flashed a Peace sign before walking out of the shot.
