AWS Offices, Atlanta, GA
Doc Creek was leaned back in his chair as he sat behind his desk, puffing on a cigar as he did so. Sitting across from him was Neve Ford, who had a pencil between his fingers. He tapped the pencil against the desk in a slow rhythm.
During this, Creek’s desk phone was on speaker as it rang, trying to connect to phone it was dialing to. Eventually, the ringing ceased before a voice spoke on the other end of the line.
“Hello?” the voice said.
“Ata,” Doc Creek replied. He leaned forward in his seat, putting his cigar out in the ash tray. “I’m with Neve Ford. We wanted to see how you’re doing.”
“I’m good… busy at the moment.”
“We just want to make sure you’re okay.” Doc Creek paused for a moment as he frowned. “We know that 2015 didn’t end well for you – or any of you guys.” He sighed. “Listen, I know 18th Beat wasn’t your night, but you put on a great performance. Not just for Onslaught, but for AWS. And for that, I’m proud of you.”
“…Thanks Doc. I really appreciate it.”
“You’ll get another shot at Meiko,” Neve added, smiling slightly. “I’ll make sure it happens, even if I have to twist Matt’s arm to do it. You will be getting your shot at her again.”
“I appreciate it, Neve,” Ata replied. “Listen, I have to get going. I have a couple of things I need to do before I leave for the Asian tour.”
“You be safe now.”
“Will do.” After that, the line went silent. Doc reached over and pressed the red button on the console, hanging the phone up.
“I told you,” Neve said. “Ata is fine. There’s nothing we need to… wait, what are you doing?”
Doc pressed another button on the console before speaking. “Tracy, please get a hold of La Torre Dorado and see if he’s available to talk later on this afternoon. Something tells me Ata is going to need his services. Again.”
“Will do.”
“Thank you.” Doc then hung up the phone again before leaning back in his seat, looking up at the ceiling.
“What makes you think Ata is going to need LTD’s services?”
“Because unlike most people, Mr. Ford, I’ve actually experienced what happens when Ata REALLY goes over the edge.”
St. Regis Hotel, San Francisco, California
“Please pardon my manners,” Ata said as she hung up her phone. “When you have a lot of people who care about you, you get a lot of calls during rough times. Some people find it annoying, but given my family situation, I learned quick to appreciate it.” The Big Dog slid the phone into her pocket before she turned and faced the person she was talking to. “So, where was I?”
Ata stood in a middle of a hotel room. Before she got there, it was pristine condition, as expected of a 5-star hotel. However, it was now a wreck. Mirrors were broken, drawers where taken out of their night stands. The alarm clock lay broken far from where it was. The television was ripped off of the wall was on the carpet, screen broken. The bed was flipped. The only thing that wasn’t broken was a bottle of Ace of Spades champagne as it lay on the floor underneath an overturned bucket of ice.
Most importantly, in the corner, was Yasmin Sharpe. She was dressed in nothing but underwear and negligee. Her head was bowed as blood ran down from her busted nose. Her right eye was blackened and the right side of her face was heavily bruised.
Ata, who was dressed as a hotel staff member, walked up to her slowly, speaking as she did so.
“I know you were planning something special for Delilah, so, I’ll keep this short and sweet. You Wild Tigers? I’m getting real tired of your shit. Gemma burning La Chispa in the face? I didn’t like that. I didn’t like that one bit. So, this year, I don’t care what I have to do – I’m taking you guys out. One… by one… And I’m going to start with Delilah, then Meiko… and finally Gemma.”
Ata stopped in front of Yasmin. She then kneeled down in front of her, grabbed a handful of her hair and forced Yasmin’s head back against the wall, making Yasmin’s eyes make contact with hers as the Irish woman grunted. “If you want to make it to your fight with Julie… I suggest you make sure this message gets passed along.”
With that, Ata stood up, releasing Yasmin’s hair as she did so. She then whistled Auld Lang Syne as she walked away, stopping at the bottle of champagne. A-10 bent over and picked up the silver. “I’ll keep this as a memento.” With that said, she walked out of the room, making sure to hit the lights on her way out.
