God's Gift to Wrestling
Coming into view was a completely empty Stan Sheriff Center, the trash left behind by the loyal fans already picked up and disposed of. Gradually the camera’s attention made it’s way down to the ring, which was yet to be put away. In the center of the squared circle, each one dressed sophistically in impressive looking tailored suits were Josh Brunswick and Carlos Cruz. The individuals were going over a few things before the segment commenced, handing each other several index cards probably filled with questions Brunswick was planning to ask The Jesus Freak. Already used to sit down interviews, Carlos told Josh that he was willing to answer anything thrown his way. Also that tonight he was an open book, wanting to get many things off of his chest tonight. While Brunswick was getting a final touch up by the make up artist, Carlos was shown on his smartphone once again reading over NOX’s letter to him, which constantly gave the Bronx native mixed feelings. Yes Carlos was beyond elated to finally compete against his idol at PRW’s first pay-per-view of the year. However, the tone in the letter made Cruz believe that NOX thought he was just a tune up or a stepping stone back to the mountain peak. Making sure that he tapped into his hidden potential, Carlos secluded himself as best as he could, also keeping himself from checking in on the world of social media. Wanting to at last let management, the whole world, and even himself know that he was ready for the next level in his career, Carlos made a promise to himself that he wouldn’t fall at the feet of Joey NOX. He needed to go full throttle against the prestigious Hall of Famer, no matter the cost.

After all was said and done, the makeup artist bid both Cruz and Brunswick farewell, cuing the young man to put away his phone. The interviewer and guest sat up straight in their seats as they turned towards the camera, both smiling as the director in the back began to count down from five. With his head clear and his heart fully committed to the interview, Carlos knew what was he going to say to his many viewers watching tonight, even though he had no clue on what he was going to be asked. His main objective was to prove a valuable point. And that was that Carlos Cruz was not be looked down at. Catching sight of the red light, Carlos and Josh put on their game faces.

Brunswick: Welcome ladies and gentlemen to a very special segment on PRW dot com. With me tonight, taking time out of his training and personal time, he is a former World Champion and international sensation, The Jesus Freak Carlos Cruz.

Carlos: Thanks for having me yet again Mister Brunswick. It’s always a treat sitting across from you.

Brunswick: Likewise Carlos. I must say, you’ve certainly matured into a fine young man and a fearless competitor. How’s the attitude in the back towards you been? Do many of your peers continue to hold grudges against you, or have seen them opening up to you more?

Carlos: Well as you can see I’ve co-main evented against Alex LeBlanc at Bloodletting, meaning that management is trusting me more and more. Even though my history against the vets of the company, NOX has at long last accepted my challenge to go one on one. Everyone in the locker room has quickly received me with open arms. Of course not right away. I had to earn it in and out of the ring. And in this new year, I can at last say the PRW roster considers me as one of their own.

Carlos smiled at the last sentence, pleased to know that he was at long last accepted by his peers since debuting in 2013. Not much of being a guy dying to be accepted by the whole world, Carlos felt that he needed to atone for his previous sins in PRW, needing to prove everyone that it wasn’t a mistake in resigning him. Since returning to PRW, Carlos was all day long training his rear end off, and on his day offs you would go to management’s office seeking advice regarding his character and possible booking suggestions for him going into the future.

Brunswick: Speaking of NOX, when he at last accepted your challenge, what was going through your mind at the moment?

Carlos: I was beyond thrilled Sir. I’ve went against plenty of Hall of Famers in my career. But NOX is on a whole ‘nother level. He’s done it all. I’ve constantly called him out, even before I was sent packing, because I knew if I beat him there would no question on anyone’s mind that I belonged. And not only that, but I would be getting closer in becoming the sole face of this illustrious company. NOX is adored and hated by many in the back and around the world. Everyone is chomping at the bits to get where he’s been.

Brunswick: Even Manik Mercer.

Gritting his teeth at the mention of the Internet Champion, Carlos tightened his fists against his lap recalling when Manik tried to steal the match he worked so hard to obtain for himself. Wiping away the memory of Mercer cheating to retain his championship against him, Carlos was irate when he caught word of Mercer going to the ring and trying to persuade NOX in kicking The Descended Saint to the curve, and really have a challenge at Salvation against him. The Bronx native wasn’t a guy who held grudges, but when someone tried to steal the meal off the table of his loved ones, he couldn’t let that go unpunished. Deep down Carlos wished he was in Honolulu, Hawaii at the time to once and for all silence the big guy, making sure he knew to never again butt his head in matters that didn’t concern him.

Carlos: Yeah, even Mercer.

Brunswick: It must have irritated you to hear that Mercer was trying to wipe you off the Salvation card, and persuading NOX in accepting his challenge instead of yours. Even your own flesh and blood, Agustin Gates, announced that you stand no chance against Joey NOX. Your thoughts?

Prepared to answer this very question before stepping into the building, Carlos tried his best to control his anger as he sat up straight in his seat.

Carlos: I don’t care what Gates said. What really irked me was Mercer’s childish act. Even though in the end he himself was kicked to the curve, it annoyed me that he tried to take food off my and my loved ones’ table. Why didn’t he go after Alex LeBlanc, who was at the time seeking an opponent? Or why didn’t he just request a second bout against Aries? He could’ve used his first meeting against Aries as a blueprint for their second match. Yes I know NOX is what everyone aspires to become, and even surpass. But you’re not going to try and step over me, pushing me to the back of the line. It’s all about respect. If Mercer tried to contact me, maybe requesting a triple threat or a one on one against me to see who would finally compete NOX, then possibly I would have said yes. Again it’s about respect, and Mercer has certainly lost mine towards him. He’s a scumbag and deserved to be embarrassed on social media. He was too late in challenging NOX.

Brunswick: But back to your younger brother’s comments, do you think you can beat NOX? And if you can’t what’s next?

Carlos: In this business Sir, you already know very well you can't question or doubt yourself. That’s why there’s training, watching your opponent’s and even your own previous matches. I didn’t try my hardest in getting booked against NOX to only start second guessing myself. Nope. That’s not how I work. I certainly see myself coming out of Salvation on top, and possibly heading into a title match in Blackout.

Brunswick: But what if you can’t beat NOX? Will that set you back to square one?

Trying to push back the images of NOX getting his hand raised, while he laid on his back being blinded by the vibrant ceiling lights, Carlos straightened himself in his seat as he narrowed his eyes. Knowing his game wasn’t yet one hundred percent, Carlos kept himself secluded in the gym of The Jesus Freak Camp, always getting pointers from his beloved father, a former World Champion in his time. Cruz had a feeling NOX would be walking to their match with a few new tricks up his sleeve, doing his best to liberate himself of ring rust before his monumental return from hiatus. However, Carlos constantly reminded himself that he wasn’t planning to be a certain thing for his hero.

Carlos: No need for what ifs Sir. I don’t plan on being NOX’s ‘Welcome Back’ mat. I plan on being the guy that relieves him of his duty of proudly holding the honored torch. The guy sitting across from you, who’s hungry in making a name for himself in PRW, plans on using NOX as a rung as he rises to the top of the ladder. Carlos Cruz, God’s Gift to Wrestling and PRW’s Numero Uno Workhorse, is ready to welcome Joey NOX back with a big and hefty gift from the Heavens. With a Celestial Dive. He wants to relieve his glory days? Hey I’m all for that. But against muah? Nope sorry, wrong guy. Maybe NOX should have accepted Mercer’s challenge. Because against him, it would have been a walk in the park. But against yours truly? I’m taking him to war, with me being the sole survivor of that fight.

Brunswick: So is it a prediction or a fact that you will be walking out of Salvation as the victor?

Carlos: Proverbs chapter eighteen, verse twenty-one. Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Joey NOX will return to another hibernation after I'm finished with him. The Jesus Freak Carlos Cruz will be victorious. Doubt me? Underestimate me? Come Salvation, that will all change.
