So Just Who Wins LeBlanc vs Slaughter?

A PRW Dirtsheets Special Report

by Daniel Fluoride

Whether you're a hardcore PRW fan or just a casual follower of the best wrestling today, one thing everybody is glued in on is the upcoming Christmas Carnage match between Alex LeBlanc and Patrick Slaughter. It will not be the first time these two have faced off in their history. Alex and Slaughter are long time rivals who have dabbled and crashed against one another for quite some time. It is the first time though that it has felt personal and beyond just gold titles an accolades. One man has ruled PRW for the past few years, having finally garnered the fame and triumphed over the "glass ceiling" label others threw on him. The other has a been a consistent force in the chain and has laid claim that he is the best wrestler in PRW. The accolades suggest he may be the best of all time. Both men have thrown barbs and shots at the other and people are being forced to take sides or risk getting caught in the middle. As Razer sits and waits for the PRW world to beckon upon him, the spotlight is firmly on the man who came from nothing in Fort Lauderdale and the mercurial, volatile and physically gifted Canadian who now makes his home in California.

We at PRWDirtsheets are equally excited about this contest. December is setting up to be a fantastic run of matches and cards (from Wild Hearts to AWS to SPARTA to PRW iPPVS and so on so forth) but Christmas Carnage with Alex vs Pat (as well as Mercer vs Aries) is the big fish we're all chasing after. In our most in-depth coverage piece yet, we were able to talk to 30 members of the PRW roster, past and present, to poll them as to who they expected to win the Christmas Carnage Clash. We polled them and broke the results up based upon categories of importance. We hope you'll find our research most insightful and intriguing.

Speed

Alex LeBlanc- 22

Patrick Slaughter- 8

Almost all of the wrestlers we interviewed agreed that Alex LeBlanc is the faster of the two wrestlers. What we got were some very nuanced answers on how speed should be categorized. "Alex LeBlanc is probably less likely to win a 40 race, even with Pat's size. He's had more knee injuries than suspensions which says something" said a wrestler. "On the other hand, LeBlanc has quick burst as an athlete that will benefit him in the ring. It's not a big ring and he's more explosive." All of the wrestlers described Alex LeBlanc as less a purely fast wrestler and more a guy who combines quick hips and a fast in-ring mind to appear faster than he is. On the other hand, Patrick Slaughter was lauded for how quick he is despite his sze. "Patrick Slaughter is an A-level athlete with insane speed for his size. I know for a fact how fast he can appear to be" said one wrestler who had fought Slaughter over 10 times in his career.

Power

Alex LeBlanc- 2

Patrick Slaughter- 28

I guess it's not overly surprising that in the power department, Patrick Slaughter took a dominant advantage over Alex. "You're comparing a bulldozer to a pick up truck" said a wrestler who admittedly is in the Onslaught. "One guy has normal strength that gets the job done but Pat? He scares me in the gym, man." Power has tradtionally never been Alex LeBlanc's trademark and while there are far less "big" men in PRW where he's at a major disadvantage, there's simply no question that Slaughter is still the strength benchmark. "I believe Pat's stronger than he shows too, he just has no need to show it off" said another wrestler.

Wrestler IQ

Alex LeBlanc- 20

Patrick Slaughter-8

Tied- 2

In the case of wrestler IQ, we asked the 30 wrestlers who they felt was smarter inside the ring. We were surprised ultimately to see Alex LeBlanc win by such a high margin which may reveal how some people feel about Patrick Slaughter. "Alex LeBlanc is a thinking man's athlete, he's a real wrestler. Pat just doesn't seem like he can win a big match when it counts" said one wrestler. Another wrestler felt like it broke down to predictability and how they each went about their respective gameplans. "Pat has one gameplan; he works the leg and tries to bully you with power moves. Alex LeBlanc is more unorthodox and varied." Another wrestler felt as though his compatriots were simply not answering the question properly and said Pat was smarter but Alex was "crazier". "Alex LeBlanc will bash his mother with a bottle to get a win but that doesn't mean he's the smarter guy. He has no plan besides finding a way to win."

Big Fight Experience

Alex LeBlanc- 18

Patrick Slaughter- 12

While it's easy to just look at the raw numbers and see Patrick Slaughter has been involved in less "big fights", it goes far behind wins and losses in main events. "Alex LeBlanc has been competing on a high level for close to 10 years and he manages fighters in SPARTA. He's always doing something high leverage." LeBlanc has been a PRW main eventer since 2010 which bolsts and lends credence to the idea that his experience is deeper than Pat's. At the same time, another wrestler was quick to argue the exact opposite given how long ago that was. "Does anything that happened in 2011 or 2012 matter now? Slaughter is PRW's Superman. He's their new Michael Jordan, he's the clutch guy." Another wrestler argued that PRW's vastly changing landscape matters as well given that he's more likely to know the newer referees and their cadences. "Pat is more prepared for this one by far but people will see Alex and assume he's more experienced."

Momentum

Alex LeBlanc- 10

Patrick Slaughter- 15

Tie- 5

Momentum is hard to quantify for some and so it's no surprise we had an exorbitant amount of ties. "I mean the Onslaught is crumbling piece by piece and something is ALWAYS bugging Alex LeBlanc", said a wrestler, "you can't trust either of these folks. Momentum is not something either has." On the other hand, other wrestlers were quick to point out the resilience of the Onslaught when it pertains to establishing momentum. "There isn't a single group that pushes like the Onslaught do. When things go poorly, they right those wrongs quickly. The Onslaught is always capable of finding their own momentum." Another wrestler pointed out how the last time PRW fans saw Alex LeBlanc on a iPPV, he was getting bloodied up by Carlos Cruz. "He was losing that match, he lost to Razer and he hasn't won a major PPV match since 2013. The time is up on Alex." Others aren't so sure and one wrestler called this the typical LeBlanc push moment. "He's on the edge and on the brink? He's ready for this match more than people realize."

Desperation

Alex Leblanc-10

Patrick Slaughter- 16

Tie- 4

So who needs this win more? Well it's closer than you'd expect. Most seem to favor Patrick Slaughter as being more desperate for the win. "Alex LeBlanc has retired in the past and he can easily do so again. Patrick Slaughter needs this one for historic credibility" said a wrestler who has wrestled both over five times. "If you think about it, a win for Patrick Slaughter might be the next step towards GOAT status." A wrestler tried to discuss Alex's mindset and he seemed to raise some questions. "LeBlanc is soft mentally and you can tell. He's talking like a guy who is breaking and desperate for relevancy." As such, he expects Alex to be at his most desperate for Patrick Slaughter. Perhaps one wrester had it best though when she said "when two guys talk this much, BOTH have to be desperate to get the win. You cannot go back into that locker room a loser."

So who wins? Well after talking to 30 wrestlers, we walked away with a final tally of...

Alex LeBlanc- 13

Patrick Slaughter- 10

Undecided- 7
