Sioux- Minneapolis, 21st October -

BRUNSWICK: Folks, as you may know, PRW Bloodletting will be underway this Sunday live from Denver! And tonight, in anticipation of that, one man in particular has a few words to share.

__________

The tron flickers to the never-welcome image of the Canary Kid, stood assuredly in a fine camel overcoat, a navy blazer and a sharp burgundy tie over a soft white dress shirt. His sunglasses complete the attire, although prove to be nothing more than an unnecessary fashion statement; for the Kid stands in an interview area in the backstage of the Williams Arena. With the microphone in his hand, he beams brightly for the camera; ignoring the sudden tsunami of boos from the Minneapolis crowd.

CANARY KID: Hello Minnesota! You already know who I am.

As the jeers begin once more at his words, the Kid gazes away with a close-mouthed smile; anticipating when to jump in and speak again.

CANARY KID: First off I just wanted to apologise to all my fans tonight who travelled all this way to see me fight. I won't be taking part in any sort of in-ring action until I touch down in Colorado for Bloodletting.

He is animated as he speaks, moving both arms emphatically to the rhythm of his own voice.

CANARY KID: Sunday is a very big night for myself, you see. On Sunday, as you know, I'm officially challenging Takato for his X-Division belt. Now, it's nothing particularly new to me. I was, of course, champion myself when I was a lesser version of myself. It's an accolade to my name that I already have.

Kid pauses to scratch his nose, before releasing an exaggerated cough from his lungs.

CANARY KID: But, that doesn't make this any less important. No, see, Sunday's very important for one reason.

He simultaneously holds up a finger in front of his chest, pausing for emphasis.

CANARY KID: It's my opportunity to start again. You see, I came here all those years ago with a clear goal in mind. To dominate. To leave my mark. For various reasons, the wheels on my... let's call it, a legacy train... the wheels on my legacy train came off and I came off my intended path. This meant that PRW... went soft. They went soft without me around. I mean, that's how somebody like Takato Kazama gets to call himself champion! What sort of respectable organisation boasts having him as a champion?

The disparaging comments towards the much-loved champion is met with chagrin.

CANARY KID: Takato, you know I've got love for you, but come on. You're no champion! You are not a champion. Maybe you are by name, by some silly technicality, but you? You are not a champion.

Kid presses his index finger against his own chest.

CANARY KID: I am though.

He grins, losing the intensity he otherwise had in his face throughout his monologue.

CANARY KID: I will say this though, you have got the advantage. I'll give you that much, mate. See, you have match fitness on your side and at the end of the day... I can't say the same. I'm rusty. But, let me tell you something. I was rusty when I beat Reese Lynch. It wasn't close. It would have been a whitewash if I had the sort of conditioning that he had. A squash. Do you want to know why? Because I'm the best fighter on this roster.

Raising an outward-turned palm and lowering his eyes, the Kid mouths "wait" as if to backtrack over what he just said.

CANARY KID: Scratch that, I'm better than that. I know I'm better than 'the best fighter on this roster'. I'm more than that. I know that. That's why Sunday is so big. Because that's the night that I show that. I'm sorry it had to be you, Takato. You're a good guy. But let's all face the harsh reality that PRW would be much better of with me as champion.

The Canary Kid throws both hands into the air unapologetically. Some risky sentiments have been expressed in Minnesota, met with a cold reception from the usually-friendly Minneapolitans, and could surely only serve as fuel for the X-Division Champion. However, as the Englishman strolls off-camera, one can only help but think this could be one of Takato's toughest and most intriguing challenges yet.
