The ticking of the clock ricochets off the bare walls in the room, it only slightly masks the heavy breathing of Manik Mercer. He pulls himself up on his bar that is hooked on to the architrave the surrounds the door, his breath almost sounds like numbers but aren't clear enough to be distinguished. He finishes off his set then transitions into some stretches, he looks up to the television and sees that Bane is on the screen, he quickly finds a remote and turns it up.
Bane:You see Manik Mercer has lost his pride.
Mercer quickly pauses the screen and stands up.
Mercer: Lost my pride? My pride is what allowed him to have the match his way. My pride is the reason why he couldn't make me tap out. My pride is never a question, everyone knows I am a man of pride and I am proud of who I have become.
Pressing play again on the remote Mercer takes a step forward.
Bane: I come from a generation where wearing a crimson mask on your face is a badge of honor. I come from a generation where we were not sports entertainers but we were warriors drowning in the blood of our enemies and friends. We wrestled in front for five hundred people and we spilled our blood for them. Why did we do this you may ask yourself. We did it for the fans.
This time Mercer doesn't pause the screen he just laughs.
Mercer: Fans? Why would I care what the fans think, they are not the ones who make me get up at 4am to hit the gym, they are not the ones that inspire me to condition my body to that of an elite fighter. I don't work as hard as I do for the fans, I do it because I want to prove to myself I am the best wrestler in the world. The fans pay my wage and that is it, they pay to hate me and how can I respect that. Bane if you are doing this for 'the fans' you will lose, they ain't going to be the ones in that ring with you. I am.
Bane: That is what in is the case at the top of the ladder for me. I want a return to that old school way.
Mercer: But this isn't the old school you dumb fu...You stay in your prehistoric ways Bane, things have evolved since then, I have passed you on that ladder..hmph, funny, because thats what I'm going to do at Desperate Measures. Bane I feel like you are in over your head, you got lucky in our match, you really did and at Desperate Measures you will find out that the ladder in the match isn't big enough to get you out of the hell I will put you through.
Bane: And I will die before I let you get that case at the top of the ladder.
Mercer laughs at the words then turns the T.V off.
Mercer: Bane I feel for you I really do, an old man clinging on to the past, something that I have learnt only holds you back. Bane if you really want to win at Desperate Measures you are going to have to bring something new. You really think I don't know what you will try and do to me, you really think I'm coming into this uneducated. Bane I know. I also know you can't beat me, not think, I know. TLC, Street Fight, Chain Match, Cage, the setting doesn't matter you are in the ring with Manik Mercer and that is all that counts. You took the W in our last match and I say fair play, but this time I am fresh and have trained especially for you. Things will be different, I am going to be solely focused on you and I will come out with the victory...So I guess...Rest In Peace.
