We are NOT open to the public but will always do our best to meet and talk to individuals, at a convenient time, about their requirements or to answer any questions that they may have about dogs.

Our postal address is POPLAR FARM, SUTTON GAULT, CAMBS. CB6 2BJ. UK.

We can be contacted by email at:- poplarfarm.kennels@tiscali.co.uk we do prefer email contact whenever possible. (and its free) The house telephone number is:- 01353 777399 but, due to the outdoor nature of much of our work, dont be surprised if calls are not answered.

Who We Are
40 years ago, Poplar Farm Kennels took strays from the local Police and held them in old farm buildings, the owners at the time also bred Old English Sheepdogs. Then David bought the place and the years went by and now it was working Labradors and Curly Coated Retrievers that graced the old farm buildings with their presence, we held a breeders license producing two or three litters a year of working Labradors.

The kennels have been given over entirely to rescue dogs for the last 20 years and the wheel has turned full circle. Poplar Farm Rescue Kennels aim to provide a place of safety and retraining for dogs that would otherwise be put to sleep .

What we do
Poplar Farm Rescue Kennels is a small independent dog rescue at Sutton Gault, near Ely in Cambridgeshire, run by a hard working and dedicated husband and wife team, David and Rachel Linford, supported by a fantastic team of volunteers and entirely self funded by the owners and voluntary donations.

Poplar Farm Rescue Kennels has spent the last 20 years aiming to provide a place of safety for dogs that would otherwise be put to sleep. David, Rachel and the volunteers, ensure that the dogs are assessed, re-trained, nursed back to full health and finally re-homed. If they cannot find a suitable home then the dog will live out the rest of its days at Poplar Farm.

We have a 100% "no kill" policy.

Our dogs have come from all over the UK, Europe and Ireland over the years but now we concentrate entirely on dogs from the local area, primarily following referrals from our Vets, Best Friends, Victoria Street, Chatteris or Cathedral Vets in Ely who will pass our details on to clients in need.

Poplar Farm Rescue Kennels has found new homes for over 600 dogs over the years but we have also taken in quite a number of dogs who have not been suitable for rehoming due to health or behavioural issues. We now find ourselves caring for quite a number of long stay dogs who are now getting older and this leads to increasing veterinary bills and higher food costs with the need for special senior and specialist diets in place of our basic feed. We are currently caring for 2 dogs on daily medication for epilepsy, 1 dog on daily medication for thyroid insufficiency and 5 dogs who are on various age related medication and supplements.

In order to find homes for the dogs here, we need information about the adopter and their circumstances if we are to match them with a dog, hence the questions on our re-homing form which is the first step to adopting a dog. We always do a home visit before re-homing.
