Did one of the books have the assistant/assassinator's name on it or something...?
Does it have something to do with the "rest in peace" thing?

Nope to all of the above :P .

"During a party at the library, the librarian passed out from being overworked. Her assistant then carried her to her office where she could rest in peace.

The next morning, the librarian was found dead, hung in her office next to her favorite book shelf. Blood on the floor could be seen from a recently gained cut on the librarian's lower left leg. After taking down the body, the autopsy reported the death to have occured only 2 hours ago.

After a quick survey of the death scene, the police determined that the death was defintely not suicidal. What evidence lead them to this conclusion?"

Correct:
-There was nothing around for the victim to jump off of.
-Was the assistant was involved in her death?
-Was the bookshelf involved?

Incorrect:
-Was poison found in her body?
-Was the bookshelf knocked over?
-Did one of the books have the assistant/assassinator's name on it or something...?
-Was the cause of death NOT being hung?

If it was "no" to all of the above, then you must have not seen my second question...

Does it have something to do with the "rest in peace" quote? It's got to... *stares in evil way*

Um... if you mean if it foreshadowed here death? THen yes. Have no clue how that's related to the mystery though.... Actually that line was unintentional :P . I just wanted to let you all know that the assistant was the one who carried her to her room.

FINALLY A QUESTION THAT HELPS!

Let's see, if the phrase isn't related to the mystery, you might as well just omitt it all together, cause depending on how you play with the words, it can mean several things :P .

And for the useful question, no the assistant did NOT cause the wound! Let's keep asking questions!

"During a party at the library, the librarian passed out from being overworked. Her assistant then carried her to her office where she could rest in peace.

Hmm.... the assistant did play a role in hanging her! So ya, I guess in a way you can say he did do it.

And no, none of the books provided any clue what-so ever.

The assistant did hang her on purpose. She did not cut her leg while shaving, infact she didn't even have time to shave before she died.

The assitant did intentionally kill her. And the main question was how did the police realize it was not suicide? Oh, and the victim was not drunk when she was killed, more as she was in the state of a hangover.
