So far, Kitsune's the only one who's been right. This one may actually be a little bit unfair, but we'll see how it goes from here.

Tim and Greg were talking. Tim said, "The terror of flight." Greg said, "The gloom of the grave." Greg was arrested.

Yes:

-Are they quoting something?

No:

-Were they talking in code?

-Is there a law against saying a five-word sentence?

-Are they singing?

-Were they talking about killing someone?

They are talking about 9/11 and Greg was a terorrist?

That "something" is the national anthem, so they were testing to see if Greg knew the entire song? Meaning that Greg could be a legal immigrant, BUT if he was than he wouldn't be arrested, and an illegal immigrant likely wouldn't know the full song...

Hm, a guess inspired by what strawhatpirate said: Were they testing to see if Greg was some sort of codebreaker and/or terrorist? If he knew the full song than there was a chance that he was a spy who learned it so that he could break American codes... That is one f'ed up puzzle if so. Reminds me of a Death Note macro I once saw.

Americanu?

Hmm... I guess it has something to do with how the lines are memorized. Something with how Greg did it was what got him arrested I assume.
Hang hang on! It's coming!

Eh, I'm going to give this one to Rixter. He didn't have it -exactly-, but he was close, and going any further would be asking for a bit too much information.

Tim and Greg were talking. Tim said, "The terror of flight." Greg said, "The gloom of the grave." Greg was arrested.

Okay, so yes, the thing that they are quoting is the national anthem. The full answer to the situation as I found it was that this is set in World War II, and Greg is a spy inside America. Tim, an American, is suspicious of him, so for some reason he gets the guy to play a word association game with him. Tim says "The land of the free," Greg says "The home of the brave." Then Tim says "The terror of flight," and Greg replies with "The gloom of the grave," the idea being that, while everyone in America knows that particular line out of the national anthem, only a spy would memorize the third verse of the song, which is a bit of a leap of logic, albeit one that most of you playing have lended credibility to. So it's not quite as messed up as Rixter thought, but still a little odd; I figured I'd throw you guys something challenging.

Points to Rixter. You're up.

I believe that everyone from now on should post all of their thoughts in the form of an internal monologue. This would make the game more fun for everyone.

Anyway, here's one that I think is pretty clever and I doubt anyone here has heard:

While eating his lunch in a popular cafe, a man was killed. He began vomiting blood all over his table and died shortly after. When the police investigated, they discovered poison on his cup handle and his sandwich. In the seat, they discovered a vial of the same type of poison that killed him. The murderer is a woman sitting at the other end of the cafe, by the exit and bathrooms, etc. How did she do it, and what was the main piece of evidence that convicted her?

Dude, these things are way too hard... @.@

Is it like... they found poison in the bathroom and she was the closest one, so they assumed it was her?

Aaw I got that one wrong...

I am guessing, going by watching dozens of Detective Conan episodes, that the woman is Carmen Sandiego had planned this earlier. Going from there she earlier had contact with said victim guising the poison on herself and the man touched her when she then ran to the bathroom to wash it off and patiently waited for his demise.

Of course if that's not right, the question:

Was she having an affair with said victim?

Well, let's rule out (or... rule in? Whatever) the obvious:

Was the woman employed by the cafe, ie waitress, etc?

And what exactly do you mean by doing everything like an internal monologue? Like, a detective tough-guy narration sort of thing?

It was dark, a lonely night in a city that knows how to keep its secrets. But I was still persistent on finding the answers to life's unrelenting questions. I am... Duo Noir, Private Eye.

*Wonders how many people would actually get the above*

Yes yes, I've seen A Prairie Home Companion...

By "internal monologue," I mean something like:

I'm hungry; I need a burger
I think I'll go down to the Burger King
BUT! To do that I'd have to walk on the left side of the road
Which may give the impression that I'm partial to the left side
Which could mean I may be Kira
Since Kira is left-handed
L would surely pick up on that
etc. etc. etc.

Anyway, question time:

YES:

NO:

- they found poison in the bathroom and she was the closest one, so they assumed it was her?

- Was the woman employed by the cafe, ie waitress, etc?

Uh, Zan was right; the woman was having an affair with the victim, but I don't know if I should give him points or not, since that really doesn't have anything to do with the answer to the question...

Ummm...you could put Zan's under irrelevant and yes, and still give him points, considering that the answer was yes...

And Zan, Detective Conan = <3

=^-^=

Did she go talk to him while they were in the restaurant?

It can say a lot considering that shortens the possible scenarios of the cause and her alibi.

Did she manage to get the poison in the man's hands someway?

I think you are suposed to put all answers that are a yes under yes and give the person 5 points and then 10 points is for getting the whole thing right.

Did she kiss him before going into the bathroom? Mabey she put some kind of protection on her lips and then poison over it. (Was reading a Batman comic yesterday that had Poison Ivy.)
