I have /so/ been reading too much Dominc Deegan... *cough* Anyhow, so, we've been toying with the idea of a semi-generic fantasy RP in the ideas board for... how long, now? Time to actually *gasppu* DO something~! ...No, the Samma didn't have ANY spiked soda. Really. Right, getting on to business. We much first decide the mechincs of the world we choose to inhabit, from how many land forms to the terrains found, from the species to playable races; and as much magic, swordplay, weather, religion, economics, cities, and everything else we can cram in. My ideas were centered around a novel I am slowly working on, probably because it's, well, what I'm mainly working on. The plot wouldn't much work for a role-play for us, considering it revolves around nine main characters, and then just who they run into, and unless I find only eight or nine people (hey, we need recurring villains), I don't see it as being very fair. The world itself, however, could probably pass as a suitable world, or at least a decent template. However, since the landmasses are based on what we find on Earth (ie, the world is actually the Earth in a far, erased past), I would take in ideas from my ElfQuest-based RP. Or maybe the GIANT map of Faerun plastered on my wall x3 So, I'm gonna work a few things out off-hand and see what happens. Please add and change. ^^ Also, we'll have to work out game mechanics - especially how many characters one person can play. I would love to be able to play two characters (*can never decide what sort of character to use, and always plays two characters when playing DND >.>*)... And such. And who should play random encounters and villains - if one person should have that job, or if we should take turns one or two at a time, or whatnot. Okay, so, world ideas: Name Darien Dos Kendel World Map Obviously, I won't be drawing anything .-. Land Masses: 3-5 continents, many islands Water: Either a small amount around 50% or an insanely huge amount around 90% - probably, the fewer continents, the more water Terrain: Varies within continents, uniform among island groups. Mountains tend to be relatively small. Many underground catacombs. Mostly forests if large amount of water, mostly savanas or plains if smaller amount of water. Snows in all areas of the world, but less in the south, the side constantly closest to the large star of the world. Solar: Relatively few stars, one main star (sun-like thing), three moons. Society Or at least portions of it thereof. Living Areas: Several large cities where 70% of the populations live. Large cities have a main center and smaller areas attached, which are divided based on races living within. Other life takes place in small holds in the Northern regions, small towns on islands, or nomadic tribes found in the Southern regions. Cities are located towards the center of each continent, and each has a river way leading to the oceans. Alliances and Enemies: The main cities all remain at constant odds with the other cities. Small tribes sometimes form alliances if they happen across each other, especially when they travel near cities. The further from a city, the less likely alliances become. Small holds in the North have little contact with others, but try to remain on neutral to good terms. Island towns either try to make alliances with one of the major cities if they need export capital. If they have self-reliant residences, wars are often fought among any outside contact. Technology Levels: Based upon levels of magic within a city, tribe, or town. Holds are all of bare technology, enough to keep safe. Magic Levels: Seem to be much higher in the South. Many more mage schools are found down in the South, while more industry is found in the North. ((The previous two need a LOT of work .-.)) Races and Species As I'm running out of steam at the moment, I have to just go with Monster Manuel and guides to any fantasy role-playing games .-. As for races, I say definately the base races found in most games (human, elf (high, wood, dark, half), gnome, halfling, dwarf... and... uh... things I'm forgetting .-.) as well as a few races I've made (pooka, eikonians, thylains, mayans, canans) and any anyone else has made. As far as descriptions go... I'm too tired at the moment. So, whoever's intrested, help out in crafting our world~!

OMG, KENDER~! ^^' "Kenders are just elves that never grew up." Hmm... I was figuring more or less an entirely alternate universe, whereas the timeline of Earth would have no impact on this planet. ...Which so reminds me of another RP I must bring to you people *makes mental note to sales pitch the idea of the awesome Anime Detective Agency next chance she gets* |

Lol! Gi! Okay, I wanted to ask about my character Khalid. He's a wolfwere in D&D. Would I be allowed to play him here? Some DMs don't like wolfweres. Kinda reminding me of Spelljammers, here. I like the rules you already set up. Will this be D&D based? Wow, I better shut up now. |

I have a couple of characters in mind for this. A dark elf archer (male) and a human mage (female) not a couple by the way. I will post their profiles when I wake up. She is a baddy. He is not into allegences, at least at the beginning of the RPG. |

I like Kendel for the world name, too, it's just the one that sounds most like a planet to me. (Ha, kender! I love kender... they're like Luffy if he was klepto. ) For the geography... personally, I'd go for the "forests and more water" option, cos I love forests and ships... I can work with the other if necessary, though. Um, I'll have to think about the other stuff... What about religion? Is there any? And if so, is magic connected to the gods, or is it something entirely separate? And if the towns are all pretty much their own city-states, there are probably different customs everywhere as regards politics, gender roles, etc... We could come up with some of the weirder ones as we go (bizarre taboos that the heroes don't know about and could violate completely innocently are fun to play around with - one of my favourite plot devices). |

Squee! Kanthia wa heartu Kendel as well! She read that people tend to like things that start with a letter from their name. Randomu Randomu no JITSU! ...naa. Kanthia will have to post her characters later. And she likes this Warcraft III kind of world, with some land but plenty of water. It gives the characters a dream. ~Kanthia |

Yes, a lot of water makes more sense to me, as well, especially coming from an economic point of view. It makes trading easier, and travel, and rivalries. This would be sorta-kinda DND-based, especially if you play with DMs that make their own worlds. ^^ There will be no dice though, just strictly role-playing, even for encounters. Ahhh... bizarre taboos makes excellent plot fodder. Yes, I think that there will definately be religion and specific social norms throughout the world, just to add a lot of spice. I have so many fantasy characters .-. I'd definately play one of my three drow (all of which are related ^^), though I could only play the youngest (who is around twenty or so and as such still considered a young child) with her mother. The youngest is an incompentent but determined sorceress, while her mother is a usually cold, unfeeling bitch that only softens up around her favorite daughter and her mate, while that one's mother is an insane sorceress that loves fire and is planning on overthrowing the deity of the drow o.o But I have so many more... I'll have to pick and choose, but I'll definately have a drow character. ^^ |

I'm good at role playing drow, but I don't like actually have my main character a drow. I really like the less land and more water idea. And forests are awesome! Maybe have an island for each element in each direction, too? I in south there can be as island that stands for fire and will be purely molten lava with planks all over it and an actual city O.o Wow, going a little crazy here. I already have a character, had this character sheet for awhile. I'll just post it right now and you can include or discard whatever you wish. Name: Ptah Greenstar Birth Date: July 3 (I'll have to wait to see the year we're playing in) Birth Place: <.< >.> Gender: Male Alignment: Neutral good Height: 5’8 Weight: 163 pounds Age: 18 years Hair Color: Black Eye Color: Amber Skin Color: Dark tan Race: Human Class: Necromancer Anything else you want to include? I doubt, since this is only role play, that we need ability stats and such. But if there is anything else you need, I'll add it. |

Well, we'll definately need each character to pound out some weaknesses and strengths - and averages - in the main areas that will serve as a likeness to stats. Ooo, we'll definately need at least one tree city! *throws self on Kelethin and snuggles the pretty Wood Elf city* |

Okay, so, let's make a list of what we need to know before starting the RP, and I will do my best to write out descriptions for it, and anyone else who might want to can as well, and we can compare notes or whatnot. |

Races that we don't know about. I know about all in D&D and most others, but if you made it up we'll need a description. The planet we're playing on. Any made up classes if we have classes? Doubt we will, though. That's all I can think of in a half awake situation. |

Hai, we need races with pros and cons, and jobs. And probably stats, like we could have basic ones like Attack, Defense, Magic Attack, Magic Defence or cooler sounding ones like Luck, Dexterity, Strength, Magic et cetera. Yes, Kanthia just stole that from Maplestory... Or not. We could just have races and jobs, and basic skills for each job. Like a Human Magess could start with Fire-1, Bolt-1 and Ice-1 while a Dwarven Fighter would start with Beserk and Bulk Up. Or something like that ^^;; ~Kanthia |

Ho chit. Samma worked on this >_o At the moment, I only have the basic geography to show for it, but I am almost done with magic, culture, government and economy per continent, and some history, and will soon have the basics for the usual fantasy races, as well as a few from other roleplay games and maybe even one or two Kitsune originals. I need to know if anyone wants me to do a break down of classes and the likes, and what else people think I should cover. The land of Kendel: Made up of five main landmasses and hundreds of islands, Kendel is 60% water and 40% land. The five continents; Darian, Kandra, Veruna, Zhon, and Bashle; each has developed a very distinct culture, partially based on the aggressiveness of nearby island tribes and partially made due to the climate of each continent. Darian is a rugged land of mountains and plateaus, located in the Northern Hemisphere. The higher the elevation, the more rain is received (though snow never falls), thus the mountains are filled with lush forests. The areas below sea level, however, are desert wastes where rain rarely falls. All of Darian’s major cities; Shuchal, Ishel, Yatan, and Kellindel; are located up in the mountains, and thus are the smallest cities of Kendel, receiving little trade and commerce. Kellindel and Ishel are built high up in the trees of the great forests, and rarely have contact with any city besides each other. Shuchal and Yatan base their commerce on the flight of great griffawns that are bred in the lower mountains, and house most of the population of Darian. Kandra is the largest of the five continents, but supports a small population. It is relatively flat, with no mountains and hills sparse. Located in the Western Hemisphere, which receives the most light from both suns but the most rain from the surrounding ocean, Kandra has turned into a spread savannah. Grasses grow in small clumps, and agriculture is poor for the humanoids. Most live in nomadic tribes that follow the herds of animal about the continent, and rarely meet up with each other. Kandra plays home to one city, Freeport, which lies at the Northern edge of the continent. The nomads stop here while following their respective herds to trade and rest before continuing on their way. There are few permanent homes in Freeport, but a good deal of resting areas with low costs, and thus it is a travelers’ paradise. Veruna is the most populous and active of the continents, while being the smallest of the continents. As home to over ten major cities, all of which are on ports, Veruna is on top of all things sea-worthy. Almost 90% of its population lives in the cities to work the ports, and the 10% that live inland are constantly bringing in their goods to the cities. With the greatest fleet and most prosperous businesses, this is the one place where the merchant class has more power than the aristocracy does. Veruna experiences only two real seasons: a long spring and a short winter. Its location in the Eastern part of the hemisphere puts it in the path of only one sun, but it experiences sun enough to rarely have a winter, and never another season. The few trees on this continent are of the evergreen variety, and little changes for the people living on the continent during the winter season. Zhon shares the Southern Hemisphere with Bashle. Zhon, while not a large continent, is home to many peoples. After Veruna, it is the most diverse continent, and has the largest amount of natural flora and fauna. The jungles of Zhon are famous for their many ruins and undiscovered creatures. The people of Zhon rarely interact with the outside world, however. No major cities are in place, but there are many outposts where daring adventurers can explore the jungles and bring back artifacts and exotic plants and animals. Many that come to Zhon, however, find themselves irresistibly drawn to remain on the island. Even travelers who have families they love more than anything back home may find themselves unable to return, so trade from this land is often high in demand. The people experience little change in season, being close to Veruna, but under both suns. It is often hot and humid in the jungles, and there has never been snow. Bashle is the middle island in every respect: size, population, people; everything. It has five cities, each of which plays a different role in Bashle’s economy. The continent is made up of several small mountain formations, two large forests, and a stretch of plains. There is a city in each mountain, in one of the forests, in the middle of the plains, and on a peninsula that stretches out into the ocean and has access to every ocean flow. The people of this land are diverse, living as according to what they know how to do. The land sees at least a little of every season, and has the longest winter of all the continents (though it still receives little snow and its winter is only longer than the land’s short fall). Above Kendel, the sky has few stars. There are two large stars, the suns of this planet. The smaller is named Bosh and the larger Aran. They are, generally, close to each other, but at the rate Kendel rotates, Bosh sets sooner than Aran does. Bosh is also closer to Kendel, and thus, when it sets, the land is immediately cooler even though still in full sunlight from Aran, which will set about a half hour later. There are three satellites orbiting Kendel; Luclin, Aross, and Yots. Yots is rarely seen as it hardly ever catches the light of Aran or Bosh. It is seen about once every decade, and there is always a festival when it is visible. Luclin can be seen throughout the day and throughout the night: it orbits quickly and thus can be seen at regular intervals. Aross is only visible after Bosh sets, always catching light from the smaller star. Annd... Fear my ghetto map. Of doom. ![]() Anyone is welcome and loved to create a better one x3 |

Ooh, that's awesome... I have a question - when you say there are few stars... are there enough visible stars for there to be constellations and such, or is it more like a couple of dozen stars just scattered...? And we need to round up someone who's good at drawing maps... As for classes... yeah, I for one could do with some info on those, not having ever played DND... |
