Hello! I bet a lot of people have unanswered questions from One Piece and I thought I'd start. Q: Is it true that Shanks is a Shichibukai? I heard from somewhere he was, but I'm not sure myself... |

Well, if he is, it hasn't been revealed yet in the series. Personally, I don't think that Shanks would work for the government, but I suppose it's a possibility. Remember, the Shichibukai aren't just the strongest pirates, they're government-sactioned. So that doesn't necessarily make them the seven strongest pirates. |

I read on absoluteanime that he was. It would not surprise me in the least if it was true. If anyone would be... |

shanks is NOT a Shichibukai (i am not yelling just stressing the "not") how do we know? although oda has never outright said it it cant be true. in order to be a Shichibukai you have to leave your crew since shanks obviously has a crew he is not one. the government does not control shanks and it is obviouse that shanks would never be controled by the gov. i wont say more but we see this latter in the series. any other rumors you would like some help sorting out?

The above quote comes from Absolute Anime. I have seen it stated elsewhere too. I thought the Shichibukai were pirates who the government didn't penalise becasue they only robbed other pirates? I think it's more of a mutual agreement than a control thing. Correct me if I am wrong. |

Are all the Shichibukai necessarily bad guys? I wouldn't have thought so. I didn't think Mihawk was a bad guy, after all - an antagonist, yes, because Zoro has to beat him if he's to achieve his dream, but "antagonist" doesn't always equal "evil". I actually thought Shanks would be a Shichibukai because Mihawk speaks to him as an equal, but if you have to leave your crew, then I guess not... |

well i dont know where they are getting their info but its not from the manga. it has never been stated in the manga that he is or isnt a Shichibukai. i think shanks and mihawkspeek as equals because they are. Shichibukai arnt the greatest pirates out there they are just very powerful pirates who have agreed to work for the government. and yeah the government does not seem to have alot of control over them but they do have some control while they seem to have no conrol at all over shanks. |

The Shichibukai are government-sanctioned because they give a percentage of the treasure that they take to the government, similar to real life Buckaneers (sp?). And doesn't Shanks work with Whitebeard later in the series (a friend told me this)? Seeing as White Beard's I believe the #1 enemy of the government in One Piece, that seems unlikely for Shanks to be allies with him AND be a Shichibukai. Not to mention the fact that, when Mihawk showed up, Shanks acted like he was expecting Mihawk to come after his bounty (I think he said something like "Are you here to fight?"). They do seem like allies, but I doubt that that makes Shanks a Shichibukai. He just doesnt' seem the type to work for anyone, least of all the government (given how generally corrupt many of them are). |

he doesnt work with white beard all we know is he is trying to see white beard and the government does not want that to happen. this is just my opinion but i though that shanks sounded more like not realy enimies of mihawk but more rivals back before he lost his arm. i mean they did end up drinking and celabrating together. (this was cut out of the dub so if you only watch the dub you are left with the impresion that they are enimies) |

Well, he may not necessarily be weaker because he lost his arm. He may have gotten stronger. I mean, East Blue is the weakest of the oceans, right? So if Shanks is weaker now than he was when he had both of his arms, what was he doing in East Blue if he was strong enough to be in the Grand Line (although I guess we don't know for sure that's where he is... Still, where else COULD he have been in that shot with him and Mihawk? He did say, "So you've come, Luffy," or some such thing, which would suggest that he's refering to the Grand Line)? All Mihawk said was "I gave up fighting the one-armed pirate," or something like it, for all we know, maybe Shanks would kick his ass! |

i never said he was weaker with the arm loss i seriusly have no real gage on how strong he is. he has to be very strong or have something to be such a big consern to the government though. and i think he was in east blue because he felt like being there not because hes to week to be in the other oceans. he strikes me as a very luffy like guy. where he doesnt really care where he goes as long as he is having fun with his friends. (if luffy hadent made that promise i dont think he would be after one piece i think he would just be happy adventuring as a pirate, and he probly would still have ended up in the grand line because it would be an adventure) |

Yes, Shanks is a very Luffy-like guy. I can't see him working for the government either so that bit of info. must be mistaken. Shanks would have to be a very strong fighter indeed to earn, and keep, Mihawk's respect. |

Yeah, I doubt he likes being told what to do. And from what I've seen since I was last on this thread, I'd say he would never ally himself with the kind of people the WG are. So, OK, he's NOT a Shichibukai. Myth Busted. |
