I heard somewhere that you need Freeloader to play games imported from Japan. What is it? I was wondering because I was thinking of getting a One Piece video game on the internet. |

I think it's like an upgrade for an American PS2 so that you can play imported games. But it costs alot of money. It's either that or you buy a Japanese PS2... <.< >.> |

And adding mods that allow you to play Japanese games nulls the waranty on your PS2, by the way. Also, you can't send it in for them to fix and have them send you another one that they've already fixed if that's the case. I know because my dad and I had to do some research when my recently purchased PS2 refused to play DVD-rom games. But they accepted it and we've got a new, slim PS2 that's in perfect working order. |

So Freeloader lets you play Japan-imported games for the PS2? What if you have a Gamecube? Could you play Japan-imported games on the Gamecube without Freeloader, or is it impossible to play Japan-imported games on it? Or maybe there's a Freeloader for that as well. |

any system that uses CD or DVD or something like that they put a region code on it so you can only play japanese games and watch japanese dvds on a japanese game system of in a japanese DVD player. for cartrige games on the other hand i know that game boy and game boy color games can be imported and work on an american system. not sure about GBA or DS though. anyway its really anoying that they put it on there but if you just have a playstaion 1 or a game cube because they open up top you can just get a boot disk which will trick the system into thinking everything is from the right region or if you really want to risk it and are fast (still only PS1 or GC) you can use a pen or other similar object to pust down the spring so the system thinks you have closed the top. then put in a game from america whille its loading it will spin really fast and right after it comes up with the PS or GC logo the disk should stop spinning if you take out the disk and replace it with the japanese one before the system notices its gone then it should load the game. i have never seen this second method actualy work but my older sister says she and her friends played some imported DDR that way. although it could really mess up your siystem and you have to be very fast |

Uh, so I should basically forget about getting that Japanese game on the internet, unless I get a boot disk?

or a japanese plastaion or a mod chip or something else that will let you play the game because if you just have your system it is a wast of money |

If you want to play an imported game on a Gamecube, you can buy a freeloader disk. Freeloader also comes free on Action Replay disks. I use an AR disk that has Freeloader. If you want to play an import game on PS2, you need to either get it modded, or you can buy a flip top case and a swap disk. The flip top case is a replacement casing that you put on the PS2 that has a flip top lid like PS1. The swap disk works much like Freeloader. I haven't modded my PS2 or used the flip top/swap disk method myself, but have been doing some research on it. I hope this info will aid you. |

Actually, I think I'll get Freeloader, if my mom lets me. I haven't asked her yet, though. To get Freeloader and OP Grand Battle 3, that's $80. And she usually pays just $50 for Gamecube games. |
