Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories; Disney AND cards? And it's a good game?

Yes. As much as I myself have laughed at the concept of Kingdom Hearts, I am, in fact, a big fan of Chain of Memories, though I haven't played the original due to its PS2-exclusive nature. Regardless, the concept that playing through the levels actually involves the characters going back to where they went in the original game stops the player from not having ANY idea of what's going on, and the actual gameplay can be pretty fun. I have to hand it to whoever made this game, it's got probably the most original card-based battle system I've ever seen. It's somewhat difficult to explain to those who haven't played it, so I'm not going to really try, but basically the combat is more like action than anything else, except that attacks can be determined by cards, and combining some cards can create better attacks (ie, 2 Fire spell cards create a Fira spell), and they also managed to work the numeric value theme in to the point where it becomes important, but not the be-all and end-all.

Small bits of conversation between levels are really what drives the major story, but, at least as far as I've gotten (6th floor out of anyone's-guess how many), the player is more or less kept in the dark as to what exactly is going on... Except that you have some enemies who may or may not be enemies, and that, as you proceed through the castle, the characters forget some things, and seem to recall others. I'm guessing that "friendship," will be a prevelent theme, it would appear that way at least from what I've seen with "We'll never forget our friends!" being a mantra of the heros when they realize that they've lost another memory.

All in all, it seems like a good game, but I'll get back to you on my final verdict once I've beaten it. So, what's everyone else's opinion on this game? I'm guessing someone else around here must have played it at some point...

And I have to say, I still think it's incredibly funny that people would obsess over being able to play as Mickey Mouse in a video game (Kingdom Hearts 2), though I can understand the reasoning... Still... I can't help but think...

5-year-old: Yay! I get to play as Mickey!

15-year-old: Sweet! In KH2 you can play as Mickey! Rock on!

I hate the card system...Why couldn't they just make it action/adventure/rpg?!
I never finished the game. I did get through almost all the citys except the last one.
If you love the game, go play as Riku. RIKU KICKS ASS!!!

My only complaint about the card system is a general inability to switch to a different card without standing around like an idiot getting hit by all the enemies. I mean, I know you can organize your deck, but still, if there's something you want at the other end of it, it takes too long to get to it. Though that could be my lack of experience with the system...

I don't like how you loose a card everytime you perform a stacked attack. Wait until you finish the game and try Riku. He has no refill time for his card, super strong attacks and you get to use dark mode!

Sounds sweet! Does the game get harder, though? Because otherwise that sounds like he'd be able to just totally demolish every enemy in the game...

If you play the entire game in normal mode(not dark), the difficulty is about the same as Sora's. But because you turn dark mode after you hit the enemy enough, it becomes easier. Riku has his own story but I only beat 2 bosses so far. They tried decrease his power by not giving him any support cards other than Mickey Mouse but Mickey Mouse is a whole lot better than all the other cards since it stuns!
...wait...I still didn't answer your question. Yea, it seems a bit too easy but Riku has less health compared to Sora and he doesn't have combo attacks in normal mode.

Okay, does Riku have a Keyblade or do the game mechanics change when you play as him too?

You didn't play the first Kingdom Heart?! Riku's Keyblade is the SoulEater. It has the opposite effect as Sora's Keyblade(I thing it's Oblivion...he has 2) The game mechanic is basically the same but the game has to adjust to the Speed of Dark Riku! I maybe wrong though, never played that game for a long time...

Wait... what do you mean by "opposite?" Does his blade create heartless instead of destroying them? Does it lock doors instead of open them? What?

Wouldn't that make him evil? Or at least, somewhat evil?

You need to play the original KH to know. Riku's keyblade is made to open(i think) doorways to other worlds while Sora's is to close(seal).

Actually Riku's(Ansem's) Keybalde is used to open the hearts of other people. ^_^

Anyway, I've played both Kingdom Hearts and Chain of Memories and I'm STILL waiting for KH2 to come out. CoM sort of confused me, but so did the first one.

He is alive in KH2... ;) Axel
Vexen, Lexaeus, Zexion, Marluxia, and Larxene, went buh-bye in CoM. Axel was the only one from CoM that was in the Organization that lived. Well, DiZ lived, but that's besides the point...
