The sky was an expanse of royal ink blue with little white lights spilled over the canvas like a complicated connect-the-dots page. It was soothing and pretty and had entranced Olivette for a few minutes (maybe an hour, time seemed to have lost itself) before the cold dawned on her; it had gotten later than she had planned on staying out and she was suddenly shivering in her white dress of frills and fluff.

The nearest open building was the Fluorite Cafe and as she hadn't been there in quite some time, Olivette swayed her way through the door and sat down at a small two-seater table. She ordered a cup of black coffee and then allowed her sleek, lizard green eyes peered slowly from person-to-person, seeking out a potential interesting someone to schmooze, charm, or hate.

A waitress brought the drink to her table and Olivette smiled a picture-perfect portrait smile; white teeth, fake charm and all. She looked at the cup of coffee as if intimidated, blowing at the top to cool it down before taking a small sip. Her face twisted into a displeased tangle with her mouth turned downwards and her eyebrows knit, yet she pressed on and continued to sip at the beverage.

Black coffee was bitter. It was hot. It had the strangest, most unpleasant and slightly metallic after taste.

And yet she "loved" it, or so she claimed with such earnest insistence time and time again. It was classy and it showed that she had a taste for the finer things in life, and so long as no one knew what really a twisted tongue she had for the drink, she was in the safe.

"Why am I here again?"
------------------------------------

Ugh, why was he here again? To grab a quick meal, right? A place to get away from that white haired NiNi? All good answers. But really, this whole was like living in the wild west or something. Korai, did not approve. Then again, he approved of nothing on this little island. This place was so boring, so...predictable. Nothing exciting ever happened. It was too...cutesy. That didn't really explain a lot of it, did it? No. this island was just a stupid rock floating the middle of the freaking ocean. What a wonderful place to live!

At least the food here was good. But tonight, Korai wasn't feeling like food. More like in need for a drink. Yet, he didn't go to the bar on the beach. That kind of drinking was for celebrations only.....and anyone that was the age limit or over. Besides, he was more of a tea kind of guy. It was actually a very relaxing drink. Soothing to the nerves. After training, he would always have a cup with the Kei family's best trainer, his father. Even if Father wasn't here, Korai would still drink...in his honor.

The black haired twin didn't care what time of night it was. He just needed one. And tea wasn't that expensive here. So, he came, sat down, and made his order. Didn't even give a second glance at the waitress. He just wanted his damn drink! While he waited, Korai let his gray eyes roam the building. Brick, upon brick, upon wood. Really, what feel were they going for here? Not much buisness tonight. A couple having dinner, and a girl scowling with every drink of whatever she took. The heck? She was trying her hardest to not be all obvious about it. But whatever she was drinking, not in her faves! She didn't look that old, around his age. The hair caught his attention. Hadn't seen hair that pale since....his brother's. Damned people and their obsession with strange looks.

People say you've been talking, you got a big mouth. Saying words you know aren't true, what the hell are you talking about? So now we have a conundrum, and the problem is clearly you. This is the part where it gets ugly, and the solution getting rid of you. You'll never be safe in the shadows, I'll be waiting in the dark. With a shovel and a bag full of lime, and I'll say the devil made me do it.

“Come on now Olivette, you can do better than that...!” She chided herself as the corners of her mouth turned downwards in another disgusted little frown. Even without a mirror to see every little twitch and jitter of her face and body, she knew that outwardly it could be seen that she was not so much enjoying the drink and she absolutely had to project that she instead had a deep love for it; that she couldn't get through a day without a hot cup of black coffee.

However, the more she thought about it the more the drink became unappealing and the more her mind strayed. Her leaf-green eyes once again began to weave around the room past the couple smooching and trying to be secretive about how touchy-feely they were getting underneath the table, the tired mom feeding her toddler some soup, two men in suits probably discussing some sort of important business...

None of them interested her until she spotted a man with a mess of black hair that stuck out in all directions, kind of reminding Olivette of the tale of Medusa and the threads of snakes that hissed from her head. She would talk to him, she decided, and if she were any person of the sane mind she would have simply walked up and said hello and introduced herself.

But no. Something like that was too ordinary, too boring – she would be so easily lost in the background. She had to try a better approach than that.

Taking hold of her cup of coffee (it was, by this time, two-thirds full) Olivette began to make her way over to him, avoiding eye contact and looking as though she were simply going to take it to the counter and inquire about it. When at last she began to pass the man, she quietly slipped her foot behind his chair and then took a step – the result?

Olivette lurching forward with the hot coffee in her cup spilling all over the stranger and the table in one big “accidental” mess.

"Holy sh--!"
-----------------

Now, what was she up to? Korai had caught her staring at him as he surveyed the room again. 'See something you like, honey?' he asked her mentally, glancing back to see when his tea would arrive. No, getting at this girl would be no fun. For once, he needed Buchi here. It was fun stealing girlfriend's from him. That white haired turd didn't even know the meaning of a good relationship. Neither did Korai, but still. And there she went, standing up to take her cup away. Which was weird, since she didn't even finish it. Must have decided that playing grown-up didn't taste good. Took you long enough.

But oh no, things were going to turn out differently. One second, she was walking past. The next, her tripping. Another, a a wave of black coming straight at him. Oh, he didn't think so.grabbing the table, he pulled himself forward, letting the coffee spill all over his back instead of his front. Coffee, blazing hot coffee. This late at night? Really? The smell would forever be etched in his clothing. God, that burned! Course, he's experienced much, much worse. But it had still been a while since something like this had happened.

"Hey, watch it," he hissed through clenched teeth. "Just because you don't like doesn't mean I will!". Man, that odor was powerful. Buchi would go anal on him, asking about why his clothing smelled. Why it was stained, etc, etc, etc. She did this on purpose, he knew it. But why? What purpose would this gain? To solely piss him off? It was working, god job. He turned to glare at her "shocked" face. Oh that little...

It was always the thrill that came before each individual persons reactions that got to Olivette. Would they cry out and yell at her, shout and shove and push? Would they stare blankly and wait for her to apologize? Would they jump up and without a word, rush to the bathroom? Or perhaps ask her, who had tripped, if she were alright? Different ideas and possible outcomes squirmed through her mind like a thousand new butterflies trying to free themselves of their cocoons.

But the second in which her thoughts unraveled was quickly melted and unfrozen as the stranger played his cards.

Ah – he was an angry one. Rather than raising his voice however, it came out in shrill bursts of air between his teeth, raspy and dark and possessing far more anger than any yell that she had ever heard. It actually almost impressed her how easily some people ticked, although... his sentence was strangely worded and Olivette had to wonder whether he came from some sort of foreign country.

However there was no time to think petty things like that and Olivette snapped back into the scene, her green eyes widening and glowing with bright embarrassment, her fragile fingers coming up to hide part of her face. “Oh... oh my goddesses! Sir, oh sir, I am so sorry! I- is there any way I could possibly make it up to you...?” Her voice carried through the corner of the cafe as she stared at him with guilt and fear, an expression on her face that would lead one to think she were close to tears.

"Yeah, I'll name one...."
---------------------------------------

Oh my god, was she really gonna play this game with him? She's a good little actor, but no match for Korai. He was boss at lying through his teeth back home. Did this girl really think she could do better? Better think again. "Yeah, drop the act and tell me what you want already" he replied with an annoyed tone. Speak fast, the clock was ticking. Tick, tock, tick, tock. Patience was a virtue that he didn't have. Maybe a little bit with his brother. But Buchi was such a sob story, he had to let back. His gray eyes locked with her green ones. Busted, baby. You just don't screw with him like that. She's lucky she hadn't been trained in combat. An interesting battle that would have turned out to be.

No, this girl was too soft. Tonight, his tongue would be his sword. It had to be, he left his at home. Good thing though. Who knew what coffee did to leather and metal. Not a pretty picture that would have been. Hm, maybe he should go wash off this stuff. Yet, Korai didn't want to move just yet. He was dying to see how things were going to be played out. To bad that NiNi wasn't here to see this! To see how a real Kei man handles things! Still waiting, sweetie. Speak up now, or forever leave him alone.

There were no long descriptive paragraphs or complicated lattices and combinations of letters to describe the person whom Olivette had chosen to be her entertainment for the night. Rather, there was only one short and simple and very elementary school word: prick.

He was, she found, all too serious. Anger still seethed from him despite the apologies that had stumbled and slipped from her pink painted lips and he was ever-so-insistent that she was giving him some sort of act, that she was actually seeking something out of him. Not that he wasn't wrong and although his ability to see through the beginnings of Olivette's play was slightly intimidating, it only caused her to crave continuance that much more.

“I- I... I don't want anything from you, sir...” Her voice had been reduced to something of a whimper and her hands moved up to hide more and more of her face until all that could be seen were here large doll eyes and the cracks and hints of frightful expression that were visible between her fingers. “It was an accident, I can... I can give you money to replace the clothes.” Although her gaze was still set upon him, she felt the atmosphere of the cafe slowly start to change.

Their little scene was beginning to draw eyes. The couple had stopped fooling around and were watching curiously, the mother held a spoon up to her child mid-feed. Those who were close and had heard the conversation thus far seemed to hold a sympathy for Olivette whose eyes were lit up like a tear could trickle out at any given moment – after all, anyone would believe the lamb over the lion.
"Oh please, just shut up already!"
---------------------------------------------------

Oh ho ho ho! Moving into that territory are we? Really, what was a girl like her doing here? Shouldn't she be doing movie shoots and such? With a pretty face like that, anyone would hire her. How did girl's make their eyes so big like that? Must be a trade secret. Cause damn, it was working. Not on him, but everyone around them. Act fast, you got an audience. "No no, my clothes finally smell nice. But come, sit," Korai said, motioning for the chair opposite of him. "I'm sure we can work something out". His turn. A lighter, apologetic tone. A more relaxed face. Don't even notice that his tea had arrived, or the surplus of napkins that accompanied it. No, it was all about playing the game. Keep it going.

And this girl was turning out to be a fantastic player. The others eventually turned away, back to their own little worlds. After all, the problem was going to be resolved, right? Sure, let them think that. Right now, all his attention was focused on this girl. Grabbing a napkin, he wiped along his back, having no trouble reaching the spot. Ah, flexibility. Never fails. Though, the help might have come to late. The coffee was probably forever etched in his shirt. Well, it wasn't that bad. He didn't really like this shirt anyway. Hm, maybe this would become a win-win situation.

Suddenly, his whole demeanor changed; a complete one hundred eighty degrees that astounded Olivette at first. However, she made sure to not let her face break apart and show her surprise and instead her features softened and she lowered her hands, her pink-tinted cheeks and weary smile expressing the sort of relief that one would get when they found out their maybe-dead brother was actually alive or something equally tragic.

“Oh, thank you thank you sir... name anything, I promise I'll make it up to you.” Her smile increased just the tiniest bit and she took a seat in her chair, her attention seemingly completely focused on whatever the request of this dark stranger may be.

However, in her mind the gates were opening and the gears were spinning, every little cell tearing through files and memories and knowledge to aid her in the sudden contest that she had been thrust in. There was no way that a man who had been fuming and hissing the language of snakes at her moments before would suddenly turn a new leaf and treat her with the courtesy of a thousand kings.

No, he had noticed, she was certain of it. The bystanders who had been so interested moments before began to turn their faces and get back on with their lives accepting what had happened as nothing new, yet if one were to pay attention they would notice that the atmosphere was no less strained; in fact it seemed tighter than it had ever been.

"Phase one, complete"
----------------------------------

That's right, sit that little kisser right down. A small smirk grew on Korai's face. So, how would this be played out today? "I'm sure you will. You seem like a reliable girl" he commented, honey dripping on every word. Hopefully that would disarm anybody still listening in. After all, that pretty face would calm the wildest of beats. Here he was, the beast calmed by the sorrow in her voice. God, people were so gullible. Man, when the last time he had such fun with a girl? Buchi always knew how to pick the lousy ones. Didn't know how to have fun with them. And not in a sexual manner. Oh no, mind games were so much more fun. Play it safe now, little girl. Prepare to meet your match. Hopefully.

"So, tell me. Whom do I have the pleasure of sitting with tonight?" he asked, stirring his tea a bit. "My name is Korai. I know, a weird guy with a weird name" he continued with a sigh, sipping his drink. "But I'm sure you have a much prettier name to go with those lovely eyes of yours". Oh yes, add all the icing he could. The cake would taste better that way. Maybe a little flirting wouldn't hurt. Gotta butter her up some way. The defeat would be so delicious. Maybe he should order some cake later. Mental ones didn't taste as great.
