“Breakfast time! Or early lunch…? Bah, I don’t give a crap, I just want food!” Resolve made up, Bucky pushes the door open to Fluorite Café. My goodness, just how long has it been since he’s been here? Two years, was it? Whenever the hell it was that Charlie went off to join the Peace Corps. Truthfully, even though he spends most of his weekends here at home in Obsidian, the young man can’t really think of why he hasn’t been in here in so long. After all, everybody’s nice here, the waitresses are pretty, the food is great, the waitresses are pretty, the atmosphere is just flat out terrific…something about cute waitresses…bah, too hungry to think now! Scanning over the café, Bucky is actually quite surprised to see that it’s filled pretty close to capacity this morning. Probably more than likely a bunch of farmers spouting on about the weather. Mostly old people, it seems…Well, it could be worse. After all, there is a rather cute blonde walking towards him…and now past him. Was that a look she gave him? While it would be nice to go and get some clarification, it would certainly look strange if he were to just walk in and then straight out after an attractive female. Besides…he’s too hungry right now to worry about it. Food first, girls later. ”Lemme see here…where to sit, Bucky? So many dang people here today…” Scratching his chin and continuing to survey the room, Bucky’s chocolate brown eyes seem to light up as he notices an empty chair. True, it’s right across from somebody, but it’s the only one available. Hopefully she won’t mind too terribly much if he takes a seat and enjoys himself a nice meal. ”Besides, Bucky, you’re always telling yourself about how you would absolutely love to go and meet more people around the island. What better time to then now?” Clearing his throat, Bucky quickly closes the gap between himself and the table and gently taps the young woman on the shoulder. Even from looking down at her from behind, the spiky haired kid can tell that she’s fairly attractive…well, that’s just a nice little bonus in addition to the eating. Let’s just hope that this one has a personality to go along with her looks… “Hi, there!” Bucky begins, smile etched on his face. “I know it might be a little strange, what with us not knowing each other at all or anything, but would you be too terribly bothered if I shared this table with you? It looks like everything else is pretty much filled up, and it would be kind of silly for me to stand there with a plate in my hand chowing away.” Well, at least it’s a nicer first impression than falling into a trashcan, at any rate… |

”Hm? Oh, not at all. I don’t mind sharing my table as long as you ask.” Happy to hear that from the girl, Bucky smiles and nods. Taking a couple of steps towards the chair, the black haired youth keeps his eyes on his companion as she goes through a slight wardrobe change, the grin on his face grows a bit more. Long brown hair, nice eyes…cute. Certainly could be worse people to sit across from, at any rate. Opting not to sit there with a sheepish grin on his face, Bucky quickly pulls the chair out and has a seat. Now, what to eat…? ”I probably won’t order much so you can have my menu. I know what I want.” Cute AND a mind reader? Color Bucky impressed. Nodding and smiling, he takes the menu from the young woman’s hand. Oh…everything looks good. Really good. Of course, being in his slightly famished state right now, it’s hard to tell if that’s because of that very reason or because it is all actually delicious. Probably all delicious. This place has been in business for a long time, after all, and selling food that isn’t really that good is a rather counter productive sales tactic. One very important thing though… “Well, where are my manners?” Bucky speaks up, chuckling nervously and placing the menu down for a brief moment. “Here you are, kind enough to let me sit with you, selflessly giving up your menu to me, and we don’t even know each other’s names yet! Oh, that’s a bit embarrassing, so I suppose I outta fix it. Bucky Kavaledge!” Smiling, Bucky extends his hand across the table, making sure not to spill the woman’s coffee or any condiments. Not really superstitious, but it still would probably be in his best interest if he were to avoid knocking over, oh, say the salt or anything like that. Don’t need to be getting on bad terms with the people that are going to be providing breakfast today, at any rate. “So then, what is the pretty young lady’s name, hmm?” |

”I’m Madison LaRosa. Future famous author at your service~” An author, hmm? Well, color Bucky impressed. Most authors are older women or dudes in the spiky haired youth’s mind. To find one that’s a young female, a cute young female at that, well, it’s definitely a pleasant change in pace. Still smiling, Bucky nods his head before having a seat across from Madison. Unfortunately, as soon as he sits down, he hears a slight cracking noise. That’s just freaking lovely. “Son of a…” Bucky mutters as he stands back up. Flipping the chair over, the teen notices the cause of the trouble. Namely the fact that a loose nail is causing unnecessary stress to the chair. Lucky break really. Anybody heavier than Bucky sitting in the chair and it would probably be busted. Can’t have that happening, no siree. Granted, this might look a little odd, but hey. Maybe he’ll get a free coffee or something out of the deal. “Just a sec, Madison…” Rummaging about in the pockets of his carpenter pants, Bucky smiles as he finds what he was looking for. Pulling out a small hammer, he takes a look at the damaged chair again. Nothing too terrible at all. Humming quietly to himself, the teen gives the nail few light taps with the hammer until everything is right with the chair again. Well, hopefully, anyways. Only one way to find out. Setting the chair on it’s legs again, Bucky takes a deep breath and sits down, almost expecting the mass of wood to unceremoniously crash to the ground with him in tow. Thankfully though, that doesn’t seem to be the case today. “There we are!” Bucky grins triumphantly. “All better! Sorry about that, Madison. Kind of rude of me to go and fix up random junk when we’re trying to have a nice chat and all. Then again, probably wouldn’t be too nice of a chit chat if my ass was lying on the floor.” |

The spiky haired teen still can’t fathom how people can go about and put that sludge into their systems. Tastes like crap, looks like crap, and gets people all wired and jittery. Tea is much better. Or juice. Or the ultimate beverage for the health conscious individual: good old water. No matter though. To each his own. Or her own, in Madison’s case. “Are you ready to order, sir?” “Boy, am I!” Bucky happily chirps at the waitress. “Pancakes, plain with syrup, hash browns, and grape juice! Sounds pretty dang good. Thanks!” Order successfully placed, hunger working on being staved, Bucky turns his attention back across the table to his comely conversationalist. Best to keep this whole dialogue train rolling while the iron is hot. Figuratively speaking of course. With all the wood in the structure, literal hot iron might start a fire or something. “So then! You’re a writer, you say? Aspiring writer, at least? What kind of stories do you like churning out? Horror? Mystery? Romance? Drama? Harry Potter?” |

Used to be a farmer up until a couple of years ago. Then the island had a little bit of an earthquake…well, nothing little about it, I guess. But anywho, we rebuilt the farm a little bit, found out that we had a knack of sorts for it, and here we are…” Bucky trails off as something catches his nose? Would that happen to be the scent of a nice pancake and hash brown breakfast? Why, yes! Yes it would be. Now grinning from ear to ear, the spiky headed teen grins as the plate is set down in front of him. Looks certainly looks good. Not as good as the girl across the table from him, but at least good enough to eat. Unable to hold off any longer, Bucky eagerly arms himself with fork and knife and takes a chunk out of the pancake stack. “Sorry about that Maddie! That was a little rude of me.” Bucky chuckles nervously, realizing that he stopped mid spiel when the grub had shown up. “But anywho, I’m not really sure if you would consider me to be an apprentice. I mean, yeah it does seem like that, but it also implies that I’m planning on making it into a perminant career. Which I’m not really sure if I’m going to or not. I mean heck, I’m eighteen. Like I have a clue of what I want to do yet! Truthfully, maybe I’ll just wing it? Yeah, winging it sounds good!” Feeling better about righting his social faux pas, Bucky turns his attention back to the plate. Heavenly aroma and taste of fried batter and fried shredded potatoes. And the taste…perfect! Not as good as mom’s, but good enough to fill the black hole in his stomach known as hunger. Before the teen realizes it, he’s already put half of the plate away. Well, he is a growing boy after all. Although at age eighteen he’s probably pretty close to being done with that whole growing thing. Hopefully, anyways. Bucky is fairly happy with his body the way it is right now, after all. It’d suck if something silly like a growth spurt was to go and throw that all out of whack. “Really?” Bucky asks in response to Madison’s answer. “Wouldn’t figure that a cheerful, cute girl would go and write mainly horror. But hey, as long as you’re good at it, why the heck not? As for inspiration…hmm…maybe a murder-mystery? It could fit into the horror vein, but have that mysterious twist to it as everybody tries to figure out who the killer is. Or you could do a spoof of a murder-mystery. Combining your horror and comedy skills?” “Um…sorry about rambling there.” Bucky finishes up with, taking a sip of his juice. “Hopefully I had something that could be helpful in that little ramble.” |

”No worries, Bucky. A guy’s gotta eat, right?” Ah, well that’s good. Grinning and nodding to Madison, Bucky quickly tosses in a few more bites, seeing as how the girl has practically given him the green light to do such. At least he’s not eating loudly and is keeping his mouth closed. Which is probably the reason that she’s looking on with amusement rather than with annoyance or disgust. Looking at Madison as he continues to eat, he listens on as the author describes her fledgling writing career. The name of her book…actually causes the spiky haired teen to smile and tilt his head. “You know…” Bucky starts, an audible gulp as he takes care of that whole ‘talking with food in your mouth’ issue. “…my kid brother was actually reading that book a couple weeks ago. He seemed to be pretty entertained by it. Wasn’t frowning about it when he finished reading, which is like a stamp of approval from him. As far as reading level, if it makes you feel good, he is fifteen and is truthfully probably smarter than I am. I got the brawn and he got the brains, I guess you could say.” Happy with the conversation for now, Bucky follows suit with Madison’s eating and goes back to assaulting his plate of food as well. Maybe a cruel way to look at it, but hey, it works. Something funny about his newfound buddy though…she does seem to be a little tomboyish, what with her word choice and the fact that she’s doing a rather good job of putting the french toast away. A pleasant thing to see, really. A pretty girl that isn’t afraid to act like one of the guys. A pretty girl that likes his book idea too, it would seem as her eyes went and lit up like Christmas lights in response. ”So you’re 18, eh? I turned 18 last summer myself. You still in high school? I don’t think I see you around Mother of Pearl.” “Well Maddie, if you would have been here a few years ago, we would have been classmates.” Bucky replies with a grin as he dusts off his plate. “I do live here in Obsidian, yeah, but me and my brother go to school in Abyssinian Town. Well, I don’t have to for long I suppose, what with the whole being a senior thing. But anywho, I transferred over because they had a better athletic selection. And my brother transferred over because…well, I’m not sure why, exactly. Academic selections? Wanted to tag along with me? Heck, I dunno. But either way, it’s been fun. Football, wrestling, baseball, weight lifting…guess you could say I’m a bit of an athletic addict. At least there’s worse things to be addicted to, I suppose.” Chuckling and nodding his head, Bucky grabs his glass of juice and finishes it off in one quick gulp. As he sets the glass down on the table, a quiet beeping fills the air. Oh…right…that whole ‘day of repairs’ thing his dad was rambling about this morning. Well, at the very least, Bucky had gotten a good meal in beforehand. And more importantly to the teen, he went out and found himself a new friend too. Good thing, that. Despite being a native, the teen can’t really say he has too many Obsidian buddies left. “Well, crap.” Bucky finally replies as he kills his watch alarm. “I really hate to dine and run, but I’m afraid that’s what it looks like I’m gonna have to do today. That whole job thing I was telling you about snuck up on me. Well, I knew about it so I can’t say it ‘snuck’ up on me, but…ah, you get the gist of it. You’re certainly clever enough. But anyways, I gotta get running. It was awesome meeting you Maddie! Hope to see ya around!” And so with a nod and a cheerful wave, Bucky makes his way out of the café, putting down enough money on the table to cover both his and Madison’s tabs. After all, nothing wrong with being a gentleman every once in a while, no? |
