Nothing soothed the spirit on a cold day like some chai tea. This versatile drink can be served hot or iced over; in the fall Jesse preferred it in a nice, steaming mug. He settled for a thick paper cup with a plastic cover. The young man sipped his drink as he sat beside the cafe window. His grey jacket hung atop the chair.

There were a few other people around, but for the most part Jesse was alone. His dear collie was holed up in the hotel room. He had already walked her earlier that afternoon, and he wanted to take some time to explore the island's shops. Jesse had not felt thirsty until he spotted the café doors. Then his body suddenly realized that it was in the mood for tea.

The other half of his table was empty. Jesse was much too shy to invite anyone in the café to join him, but having the space to himself did not bother him. He stretched his legs underneath the wooden surface and took another sip of tea. "Ahhh," exhaled the boy. Then he returned his eyes to the window and watched the townspeople pass by.

Regina walked into the cafe and sighed. A guy who had begun to hit on her at the beach had been following her ever since and now wanted to buy her lunch. Even though she had already said no, fifteen times. She was getting annoyed but felt too bad to reject him. She looked around and got an encouraged look on her face when she saw the boy from the beach a few days ago. Maybe he'd be nice enough to play along.

"Oh, hey babe!" she said wrapping her arms around Jesse's neck. She then whispered in his ear, "Please play along. i'm trying to get this guy to leave he's realy persistent. nothing personal." shdsat on his lap with a nervous smile. She then looked at the boy. "Thanks for escorting me here, but my boyfriend can take care of me now." she said with a smile.

The guy sighed and walke dout the door only to run to the next cute girl he saw. she hopped off his lap and sat next to the guy. "Sorry 'bout that. The guy wouldn't take no for an answer." she said rubbing the back of her neck. "So how have you been? How's Lily?" she asked with a friendly smile.

”Papa, allons au cafe!” Adrienne said, sliding to a halt in front of the Fluorite Cafe. Her eyes lit up at the thought of steaming hot chocolate. The cool autumn wind blew right through her tights and little woollen cardigan. She wanted some yummy chocolate in her tummy. Her father sighed and conceded, not saying anything but simply pushing open the door to the cafe for her to waltz in. He ruffled her hair as she went by. She glared, joking of course, but this did mean a moment of smoothing out her blonde locks while he looked over the menu.

“Qu’est-ce que tu veut?” asked Cyrus. Adrienne hummed in thought, rocking on the balls of her feet.

So much food! It was amazing, especially after eating nothing but fish and toast. Her dad was not the greatest of cooks, and Adrienne was twelve, and no Julia Childs herself. “Un croissant et un chocolate.

Cyrus nodded, patting her head before joining the line for food. She heard him ordering a baguette for himself and water. Oh, papa. It was almost like he enjoyed eating prison food day in and day out. A moment of staring after him, and she realised that she could make herself useful and find a place to sit. The greatest thing about cafe’s in Paris was that one could sit and talk over coffee (or chocolate) and her father was awesome, but not the greatest conversationalist.

She spotted two people, a boy and a girl, sitting together. Maybe brother and sister? Adrienne recognised the girl, so they’d do. “Salut! Mind if my Papa and I join you?” she asked, completely open about sitting with complete strangers. Adrienne came to the conclusion that perhaps they were... boyfriend and girlfriend, having seen the way she’d wrapped her arm around his neck. Ew, that was a little weird. The boy looked a few years older.

“I’m not interrupting, am I?” She had to be sure, though she’d probably be disturbed if her suspicions were confirmed.

"Baby" was one of Jesse's least favorite words. Emily knew better than to call him that; the boy simply did not enjoy being compared to a demanding, helpless infant. He had not expected anybody to use any sort of endearing nickname on the island, so his eyebrows shot up upon hearing Regina's voice. Before the boy could voice his discomfort, however, he was subjected to even more of it. Regina plopped herself onto his lap. Generally when a girl did such a thing Jesse would place his hands on her sides and keep her balanced, but the boy was so dumbfounded that his arms dropped uselessly to his sides.

"Um..." was all he could say. His legs twitched uncomfortably, and his eyes were as wide as Lily's after she's spotted some food. Jesse's mind raced in search of some other way to respond. Then, as unexpectedly as she had arrived, Regina abandoned her post. Jesse stared at her with an expression of confusion and just a little bit of anger. Emily was by no means a jealous girlfriend, but he assumed that she would not want him allowing other girls to sit on his lap.

As luck would have it, a young girl broke the awkward silence. She seemed nice enough, so he flashed her a sheepish smile. "Uh, no, no, you're not interrupting anything." Jesse hoped that his emphasis would give Regina the hint she needed without outright criticizing her behavior. "You two are welcome to sit here. My name's Jesse. And this is...uh...What's yours?"

Regina rubed the back of her neck. Was the guy deaf? She mumbled somethign then looked over waiting for her sister and her brother to show up. She was officially bored out of her mind. Now that the guy was gone she could relax. "Again you'll have to forgive me for acting so recklessly, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." she said with an apologetic look on her face.

She looked down at the pocket watch yet again before sighing. "Damn girl. You'd think she'd be able to arrive on time." she mumbled strictly to herself as she leaned her head on her hand. She looked at Jesse quickly before turning to the girl with a smile. "And I'm Regina. Regina DiMarco." she said sweetly.

Adrienne blinked twice. Good, no interrupting, lately it seemed she had become a master of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Maybe it was her quickly approaching birthday. She was going to be thirteen, making for awkward growing pains that her father was not looking forward to (he told her this rather plainly on her half-birthday.) The boy was actually uncomfortable looking, like his chai tea wasn’t up to snuff. She smiled brightly at him and plopped herself in the seat beside him. “And don’t worry, my papa’s coming, so you won’t be crowded by girls for long,” she assured the boy. Some guys got so antsy around girls.

She swiveled in her seat to stare over at the back of her father’s head. He must’ve felt her gaze, for he turned and caught Adrienne’s eye. Winked and grinned. Adrienne smiled back, then faced the two she now sat with. “My papa’s coming soon~” she said. “Our croissants aren’t done yet, I guess.”

The other girl kind of ignored Adrienne, so she took the opportunity to glance over her features. Blue hair, weird. Adrienne touched her one blonde hair, and wondered if she would ever dye it such a strange colour. She frowned, no. No, Adrienne quite liked her hair.

But the girl, Adrienne had seen her around school, there wasn’t any mistaking that hair. Her name escaped her, however, and since blue haired girl had ignored Adrienne, she thought perhaps she could ignore bluey right back.

She looked over at the boy, Jesse. That was a girl’s name! Maybe, since her name sounded like a boy’s name and his name sounded like a girl’s name they could be friends. “I’m Adrienne, Adrienne LaRue.”

Regina smiled sweetly at the girl. "Nice to meet you Adrienne." she said happily. "Actually, my brother and sister are gonna be here any minute. You remember Robbie, right?" she asked Jesse, resting her head on her hands.

"My mom WAS gonna come but she's busy." Regina explained randomly. She looked Adrienne over quickly and smiled ever so lightly. "Hey, I thought I recognized you. You're in my class." she said with a smile.

"Uh-huh. Sure," was all that Jesse said to Regina. His breath had returned to its normal pace, but the boy still had to suppress the steaming anger in his stomach. He had managed to bring it under a boil, and he took several sips of his tea and several more calming breaths. "From the beach. Yeah."

In all honesty the name was familiar to Jesse, but he was not the best at remembering faces. The young man could envision another person standing on the shore, but he could not be expected to do anything more. His light brown hair rippled as he turned to face the other girl. She looked much younger than Regina and probably less crazy. He offered her one of his long hands and continued to smile. "Nice to meet you."

Jesse had been raised to be chivalrous, so he felt guilty for getting mad at Regina. She apologized, after all. He took one final breath and hoped that she would not do anything else to cause him any more discomfort. For the time being, he vowed to build a friendship of some kind.

Yeah, now she spoke to Adrienne. It was a bit late, she’d been sitting there a good few minutes. Adrienne frowned slightly, the boy, Jesse, still looked miffed about something. Like there was a fly in his chai tea. She wanted to ask, but decided it would be a good change of pace to bite her tongue and not say a word. Adrienne blinked and glanced at the blue-haired girl, not moving her head. “Yep, we’re in the same class,” said Adrienne. Then again most children on the island were. She had been too busy talking to the kids at her table to notice the others.

Adrienne smiled at Jesse. “Nice to meet you, too.”

“Hm,” a soft grunt caused Adrienne to look around.

“Papa!” cried Adrienne upon gazing up at the visage of her father.

Cyrus grinned, setting a hot chocolate and croissant before her. “Un croissant et un chocolat, mademoiselle.”

Ahhh, merci beaucoup, monsieur.” she said, giggling.

Her father’s eyes flicked to Regina and he grimaced, recognising her as the one who’d mistaken him as Lilly’s father. Cyrus chose to not ignore her, per se, but rather concentrate on the man who was probably her older brother. Though he didn’t see a resemblance. “Hope we’re not crowding you. I’m Cyrus, Adrienne’s father.” He smiled.

Regina felt she was being a burden, deciding she'd leave soon. until..."Hey, Reggie!" she heard the voice of a young girl. Anastasia walked over and placed her arm arond Regina's shoulder. "Told you we'd show up." she said. She then turned her attention to the three people sitting across from them.

"Who're your pals?" she asked with a half smile. She was then followed by most likely the only sane sibling of the bunch. He looked at the three and simply gave them a small smile. He looked at Jesse and nodded in acknowledgement.

Regina was thankful that her brother and sister came to break the smile. Robbie looked at the three. "Uh....hope my sister wasn't bugging you guys." he said kindly. Regina looked away pouting for a moment, before looking back at the three. "Um..I'm sorry as well. It's a bit packed in here though, so I hope you don't mind us sitting here." she said with an apologetic smile.

Crowds had never been Jesse's forté, but he held in his anxiety and managed to smile. "The more the merrier," he said quietly. His supply of chai tea would soon be depleted. The caffeine was already spreading through his system and giving him the urge to get up. Nevertheless he remained seated and sent a hungry gaze in the direction of Adrienne's food.

"So...uh...you girls go to school, huh?" said the boy after acknowledging Cyrus with a respectful nod. "What grade are you in? Do you do your homework?" That last remark inspired Jesse to form his lips into a genuine grin. His fingers tapped idly against the now empty paper cup. A few tea leaves still crawled along the bottom, but the liquid that carried them was not enough to drink.
