Unbelievable..... Now it looks like I'm desperate. Brie thought as she put her tag on. Somehow, her name got put up in the auction. Making her wonder how it happened. Wearing her usual British design, Brie stepped in the estate. In her hand was her sketchbook and a pencil. This was so stupid. Brie had no interest in finding a date right now...

Sighing, Brie continued her walking, she had an occasional glance from a passerby. Her emerald green eyes showed obvious boredom as sh glanced around at the villagers, some of them seemed to be having a good time.

But something caught the edge of Brie's shoe, causing the petite and klutzy woman to trip. "Oh no!" Not again... Tripping was NOT Brie's favorite talent, but it certainly was what she was best at. Particularly tripping on people. Which. in this case, happened. Something warm and soft had broken Brie's fall, a rather familiar feeling that Brie hated. Was it her curse.... yes, yes it was.

"Not again..." Brie moaned as she stood back up. "Hm?" Brie stretched out an arm to the person she knocked over, not really paying attention to who it was.Posted Image

Oh Goddess He hoped he didn't have to deal with too many people he just about hid his name tag. He had signed up half as a joke, wondering if his little rock-star friend would be here. His mouth felt dry as he looked about, he had put an effort to look his...best? A classic outfit custom designed before he left home. He looked like your average 'I hate your face' goth. Which was ironic because he was far from carrying that attitude. He leaned up against a wall, watching everybody go about, if people wanted to talk to him they could but he wasn't about to start a conversation with anyone.

:blue Zen Olius :blue He had been dragged into this by his younger brother who thought it might be nice to meet a few of the other villagers. Unwillingly mind you, people would be buying them for a short period of time but that was to be expected. They were both eligible bachelors. Well at least Morigan was, Zen was off limits, it was either Jewel or Luna and he'd have one of them in the end if it killed him. He did his best to avoid showing his damned name tag.

:white Morigan Olius :white
"Don't be like this brother, it isn't that bad." He pleaded. Zen had signed him up in retaliation for being signed up so now they were both stuck with name tags wandering around until the bidding began. He wondered shyly if anyone would bid on him. It was a flattering thought yes, but also a scary one, what kind of people would be interested in two very pale very skinny men. Would someone buy them as a set, in some weird fantasy. They weren't twins but they looked oh so desperately similar.

:orange Chad Matthews :orange
Great....Bloody freaking beautiful. Not only was he here on a whim but now that he had a name tag and sat looking at everyone else with a sort of awkward inferiority. He didn't enjoy being around so many people with so many off-handing him. People may bid on him out of pity but he figured that would be the only reason, after all who wants to be sitting next to a cripple all night.

Sparrow smiled at the pink tinge that had crept into Ulysses cheeks. She hadn’t meant to embarrass him, but it had been a while since someone had blushed by her account. “I was afraid I wouldn’t know anyone.” That seemed to be a common problem here, one that Sparrow would resolve in time. A few weeks ago she wouldn’t have even known Ulysses. She nodded at the boy—Trey, as it was, and waved back. It seemed he continued the Sloane tradition of being perfect gentlemen, maybe it was something in the water.

“Pleased to meet you,” Sparrow said. She looked both of them up and down and commented, “You two look handsome tonight. I’m afraid I didn’t know whether or not to dress up.” They were both dressed similarly, but it was cute. Sparrow couldn’t help but wonder where Trey’s parents were, but thought it best not to mention that. Not entirely proper.

"Heh, well I am glad that you spotted us." Ulysses said sincerely, smiling at Sparrow, and glancing at Trey, before adding, "I suppose it's because our work takes us away so much of the time, so that we haven't had much of an opportunity to get out and meet more people, hm?" Ulysses questioned, blinking at Sparrow. It was more of a contemplative statement that he wondered if she would agree with; plus, in reality, he should have had plenty of other opportunities to meet new folks, yet he always seemed to let them pass him by. But not this time, nope.

"Thank you," Ulysses said quietly, at the same time as Trey's 'Thanks.' "I do believe what you have chosen to wear suits you very well, Miss Sparrow. Nicely done." Ulysses said off-handedly, hoping he wasn't making her uncomfortable. He didn't really know what else to say or do now, though, so he glanced around and wondered on how to change the subject. Glancing down at Trey, he suddenly got an idea, of a way to change the topic of conversation.

"Say, Miss Sparrow, do you have any siblings yourself?"

Ahh…absolutely perfect. Good food, good company, good times. Will finds himself smiling like a kid on Christmas morning as he looks over his steak, his stomach apparently thinking that lunchtime was more in the past than what it actually was. Of course, sitting next to the comely lass known as Aislinn is just as good in the black haired man’s mind. Scanning her over briefly, Will wonders if anybody will bid on her…bah, that’s a stupid thought. Her appearance alone is sure to garner a few bids. And then when one throws in the fact that she has a personality to go along with it…yeah, she’s definitely going to have a full evening.

”No, I’m quite fine. I’m not very hungry at the moment so you can feel free to enjoy your food.”

Well, that and the smile that she has just given him are invitation enough for Will. Smiling and nodding at his friend, Will turns his attention to his steak, feeling like he’s on cloud nine the moment the first medium-rare morsel hits his tongue. Whoever cooked this one up certainly knows what they’re doing. After another bite or two, the black haired man wipes his mouth and looks back up at Aislinn; the young woman seeming to have a contemplative look etched on her face.

”Don’t you kind of wonder who came up with this sort of event? I mean… I suppose it’s a good way for people to put themselves out there.. But bidding for a date?”

“Maybe whoever came up with the idea couldn’t land a date themselves?” Jill helpfully offers up, obviously done eating oranges for the time being. “I mean, that’d certainly be a good way to get a date if you sucked at getting them the normal way. Just go and buy a cute girl or a hunk of a man and go home happy! Like renting a movie, y’know?”

“So Aislinn is a…movie?” Will asks confused. “Don’t you think she’s a little too big to fit in one of those little rental boxes?”

“Hey!” Jill interjects, puffing her cheeks out in a look of mock hurt. “I’m supposed to be the smartass here! Besides, Aislinn’s way too pretty to put in a box! Right, Will?”

“R…Right!” Will nervously replies, a little embarrassed about being put on the spot by his sister. Fully aware that that ever persistent blush is staining his cheeks yet again, the man opts to change the conversation up a bit. “Hey, look on the bright side, Aislinn! At least this got you out of catering tonight! And who knows? Maybe you’ll meet someone great!”

"Oh, I'm sure she will!" Jill replies, a mischievous glint in her eye. "I'm sure she will..."

Sparrow shrugged. “I don’t know, work seems to have let me meet more people that I might not of met otherwise. Jewel, and, well, you.” Before Jewel had given her the job (however temporary a job it might be) Sparrow had known a total of, let’s see, two people. Ivy, and that Zen fellow, the latter she hadn’t seen since her initial meeting, thankfully she got along well with Ivy otherwise she’d be lonely. Sparrow smiled at the compliment, even if she felt he was just repaying her for her previous comment. It had been a while since she had dressed up for a special occasion, and Sparrow couldn’t help but feel a little proud of the job she’d done with herself. “Why thank you!” she chirped.

She looked from Ulysses to Trey, once ago astounded by how alike they were. She would have mentioned it, but didn’t want to embarrass the poor boy. Sparrow clamped her mouth shut, and instead focused on Ulysses’s following question. “Siblings, I—“ part of her wanted to tell him everything, the other nothing. She settled for somewhere in-between. “I have a half-sister or two, yes. They’re back in London, so I haven’t seen them for a time.”

Their faces had faded in her mind, even the memory of her father’s face was blurry. She remembered his taste in food, but couldn’t recall his smile or his laugh, the last time Sparrow had seen him he was having a raging fit. Now, she couldn’t see anything but that. Maybe one day she would visit, maybe.

“So did someone put you up to this? Maybe Trey?” she asked, giving the young boy a friendly wink.

"Why don't you watch where you're going next time!" The man yelled. He swat her hand away, and got up. A snobby look on his mug, "that's why you have eyes in the front of your head!" His words left a sting in Brie's head. She was quite stunned by the sudden outburst. "The least you can do is apologize!" Brie flinched, slightly worried that the man might strike at her. <br>

“Maybe whoever came up with the idea couldn’t land a date themselves?” came Jill's suggestion at her question.

Aislinn looked over at the younger girl, somewhat surprised that she had finally spoken up again. It seemed as though she'd finished her little snack. Jill continued on and Aislinn listened, chuckling softly at the way she was comparing bidding on a date to renting a movie. She preferred to think of it as an opportunity to meet new people. After all, they needed a reason to get everyone to gather all at one place somehow and no matter how silly an idea might sound, there were bound to be people signing up for it.

She happened to be one of those people. Aislinn wanted to sigh but she refrained herself. It wasn't a comforting thought when she remembered how she'd signed up on a whim. Ah well. She was here now and there wasn't much else to do about it.

Will made a comment on what Jill had said, having finished eating some of his food. Aislinn laughed lightly, especially at Jill's reaction to what he'd said. Oh boy. And then comes an unexpected comment on her appearance. Here, the young lady blushed. How had that come into the conversation? First they'd been talking about the whole idea of a date auction.. and then about movie rentals... and now about how she was too pretty to be put in a box? Granted, she was sure she would never want to be put in one.. but the compliment just caught her off guard.

So she was definitely grateful that Will decided to change the subject, although Aislinn could see that he, too, was blushing at his sister's boldness.

"At least this got you out of catering tonight!" he noted, adding on a comment about how she'd meet someone great. At Jill's reply to that, Aislinn blushed again, seeing the expression at the younger's girl's face. She laughed lightly, "Well, I wouldn't have had to cater anything, to begin with, since I'm just a waitress." she replied, "And I usually have Saturdays off anyway." she added, laughing again, hoping that her blush would go away. Honestly, it was almost as if Jill wanted her brother to know that she was bidding on Aislinn for his sake.

"Even if I don't, I have enjoyable company as it is so I'd be perfectly fine if someone didn't bid on me." She smiled at the siblings, giving Jill a sort of warning glance before taking a sip of her iced tea. Best not to make Aislinn feel more embarrassed than she already felt..

”Even if I don’t, I have enjoyable company as it is so I’d be perfectly fine if someone didn’t bid on me.”

Smiling in a manner reminiscent of the Cheshire Cat, Jill turns her attention back to Aislinn. The grin fades from her face ever so slightly though as she sees her newfound buddy’s face is a shade somewhere between hot pink and tomato red. Coupled with the glance that the older woman shot her way, Jill comes to the conclusion that maybe she should ease off a little. Granted, she’s having fun at her and Will’s expense, but it probably wouldn’t be too much fun to make Aislinn faint from too much blood to the head or to have her run for the door. And besides, trying to manipulate her love life or not, Jill has to admit that she’s taken a shine to the waitress. Winking at Aislinn, Jill goes back to sipping at her juice.

Watching the looks going back and forth between his sister and his buddy, Will isn’t exactly sure as to what to make of it. From Aislinn blushing constantly to her shooting a look at Jill to Jill winking at her…is there something going on here that he isn’t aware of? Well, probably, but figuring that it doesn’t concern him, the black haired man decides to keep his mouth shut on the matter for the time being. After all, he’s fairly certain that it isn’t anything malicious. If Jill didn’t like Aislinn, she would have already let her known about it in some way, shape, or form. Taking another bite of his steak, Will opts to break the brief silence.

“Well, there’s certainly nothing wrong with being a waitress. Your personality is suited perfectly for working with people.” Will says grinning. “And besides, if this steak is any indicator, you’ve got an awesome source of food nearby.”

“Will’s an awesome cook, so he means it.” Jill replies in between sips of juice. “He’s not a fancy chef or anything like that, but he’s good enough at it where he knows what good food is.”

Laughing nervously, Will scratches the back of his neck nervously at Jill’s little revelation. Granted, he is a good cook and is aware of it, but doesn’t really like to brag about it too much. The man has had thoughts about maybe getting a cooking job if the whole music thing didn’t work out, but not being one to give up, he’s held out on that particular path. Besides, musician sounds a lot cooler to introduce himself as instead of chef.

“Heh…yeah, well somebody had to cook for us, Jill.” The man replies with a sheepish chuckle. “After all, starving to death would have certainly sucked…” Mentally slapping himself in the head, Will turns his attention back to the woman that he isn’t related to. “Ah, sorry about getting sidetracked there. But yeah, I know how to cook. Not something that I broadcast around too much. Musician sounds better to me.”

Aislinn let out a soft sigh of relief at Jill's wink when she goes back to sipping her juice. Hopefully Will hadn't really noticed the two girls' exchange. She was pretty sure if he hadn't thought that something was going on between them earlier, he probably had an inkling that something was going on now. At least he wouldn't know exactly what they were planning for a little while longer.

At Will comments at her status of being a waitress and how she was well-suited for one, she blushed again. Then he commented on the food and here she grinned slightly, coupled by a soft chuckle and a nod. The food indeed was really good; which had explained why it seemed like almost all of the residents of the village went to the cafe for their daily meals. Although Aislinn was free to ask the chefs for a bite to eat when she was off-hours for free, the young woman rarely took advantage of that privilege, preferring to cook for herself. At least she'd learned a few pointers from the chefs when she opted to use the cafe's kitchen since the inn room didn't provide her with a kitchen.

She listened as Jill piped up about how Will was a good cook and she gave him a smile. At least he could cook. That was something not all men could confess to being able to do. She was glad at least she wouldn't have to worry about her new friends going hungry because neither knew how to cook. If that had been the case, she'd probably feel compelled to bring them food every day....

Aislinn laughed at Will commenting about how they'd starve if he didn't know how to cook, which made her come to the conclusion that Jill didn't know how.

"Musician sounds better to me.” said Will and Aislinn laughed again. "I'm sure you'd do well in whatever you choose to do. Best to always have a backup plan, don't you think?" she mused, twirling her cup of iced tea absently as she spoke. "I definitely don't plan on being a waitress my whole time here. It's only temporary until I can either open my own shop or do something along those lines." she told the two, smiling sheepishly.

Granted, she wasn't quite sure how long it would take for her to successfully open up her own shop... But she didn't mind the time. If something else were to come along.. Aislinn was sure she would take the best opportunity given her if it led her along the path that she wanted to go.

"I'm not complaining about my job as a waitress, it's just I look to moving up from that, you know?" Aislinn shrugged slightly, still smiling. "It's a good way to meet new people, plus, it's bringing in money, which is something I need if I plan on getting my own house. I can't possibly stay at the inn forever." Another chuckle.

<font face="verdana" size="0">Despite how many times that she had used the same smile-and-wait trick as bait in order to catch the attention of men, Sachiko couldn't help but feel the antsy prickle of anticipation crawling across her skin, leaving her restless and tapping her dark red painted fingernails on the wooden table next to her. China plates lined the brown, smooth surface and the smells of various fresh-from-the-oven foods wafted towards her from them, making her stomach churn uncomfortably. <br><br>

Occasionally she would chance a glance back at the man whose attention she was trying to grab and once was almost startled when her gaze greeted his spot on. They were such a light brown that they might even have been hazel and they held a sort of clarity, a piercing sharpness that reminded her of the slight noise that a knife made as it cut through paper. Her eyebrows raised slowly in question, her expression beckoning him towards her, waving him closer, but she dared not move physically. She might ruin the setup. <br><br>

A pout arched her lips and disappointment creased her features when suddenly, the blonde man turned and greeted her in likely the most surprising way anyone ever had. “Oh!” She let the word slip out clumsily, her voice pitchy in obvious shock. A bright apple red visibly swept into view beneath a heavy layer of foundation and blush, the pink colliding with it drastically.<br><br>

“You scared me.” Sachiko admitted lamely, tempted to hang her head in shame at how horribly she must have been coming off. It had only been minutes into their meeting and already things were going off the right track. Silence trickled in and, unknowing what to say, Sachiko fiddled with fixing a crease in her dress and posture, turning in such a way that the fold in her cleavage was made more apparent. It was still a smidgen early in Nguyet's opinion, but she managed to make it ot the date auction about an hour after it started. To be honest, she <i>had</i> considered just blowing off the whole thing, but... Vivienne would undoubtedly have questions about it when she returned, and Nguyet wasn't the type to make up stories about an event which she hadn't attended.

So... Nguyet decided she'd rather go than think up a fictional story.

She wore her most elegant <a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v423/akie_images/Dress_purple.jpg" target="_blank">dress</a>, a purple shawl over a black blouse, with an ankle-length skirt to match the shawl. After she took her name tag and fixed it to the right side of her shawl (and for some reason in had her <i>full</i> name, "Selene Nguyet Jernigan," written on it), she silently surveyed the room, slipped through the crowd and took an empty seat. ”I’m sure you’d do well in whatever you choose to do. Best to always have a backup plan, don’t you think?

“True.” Will confesses, stirring at his tea a little bit. “I suppose that it’s fortunate that I’m able to not screw up multiple things. Heh, probably not the best way to look at it, I suppose.”

Now drinking his oh so refreshing beverage, the black haired man listens on as Aislinn talks about her ambitions. Owning her own shop…? Well, even though he isn’t sure about her business sense, Will can definitely tell that from her demeanor, she wouldn’t have too much of an issue with the whole ‘dealing with the public’ thing that tends to go along with owning a store. Mulling on the topic, Will finds himself wondering what to do with his future. After all, it’s only a matter of time before his bank account will dry up without a means to bulk it up.

“Well, I wish you the best of luck with that.” Will concedes, flashing the woman a grin. “Whatever kind of shop you come up with, I think you’ll do great at it. Being a waitress will definitely help with your people skills…er, not that you need help with them! I…uh…I’m gonna shut up and eat my steak for now.”

Blushing at his little tongue tied experience, Will opts to go with his statement and goes back to his meal for the time being. As he continues to chow down, the man finds himself confused as to why he’s so flustered tonight. The only thing he’s been doing has been talking with his friend and sister…maybe a case of food poisoning? Nah, that couldn’t be it. This steak couldn’t have been done any better than if he’d cooked it himself.

Putting the confusion to the backburner for the time being, Will continues to listen in as Aislinn talks. True enough, she does seem to enjoy her work as a waitress, but understandably so, doesn’t want to do it for the rest of her life. And what Aislinn is doing is something that Will isn’t at the time; namely, making money and saving up to get a house. While he loves his apartment, the black haired man thinks that owning his own home for the first time in his life would be something that he would love even more.

“Definitely a pleasant goal to shoot for, that’s for sure.” Will says with a grin. “Truth be told, I’d love my own house one of these days too. But there’s the matter of being a glorified bum right now. A friend of mine suggested that I put my playing to good use, maybe at a festival or something. She’s got a good idea, but I doubt it’d be playing for every single festival, so that’s not really a great source of income…I’ll think of something though! Eventually, I think…”

“I suppose that it’s fortunate that I’m able to not screw up multiple things. Heh, probably not the best way to look at it, I suppose.”

"Probably not." Aislinn replied, chuckling softly. "Always look on the brighter side of things. I'm more of a realist, I suppose, but I try to have a positive outlook." She shrugged slightly, smiling somewhat wistfully as before taking a sip of her tea. When Will wished her luck she gave him another smile and thanked him before he continued on and suddenly started stumbling over his words. She laughed lightly at his reaction. The poor man seemed to be getting more flustered than she felt. This, at least, made her feel less embarrassed at the fact that she was blushing so easily that evening.

"I'll just take that as a compliment." Aislinn told him, flashing him another smile. She could see that he was trying to compliment her... at least she thought so. If only to make him feel less flustered at his tongue-tiedness, she felt like it was a good idea to just laugh most of the more embarrassing moments off. After all, it wouldn't do for the situation to get awkward. The young woman wasn't a big fan of awkward situations and so often used laughter or joking manners to brush them aside. That was how the two had first met, anyhow.

When Will replied that he, too, would like his own home, Aislinn grinned. At least they had a similar goal in mind. It's always nice to have a place that you can call your own. Renting an inn or apartment didn't quite cut as owning. There was always a different feel to things like that. Then he continued on about how a friend of his suggested that he play at the festivals. Aislinn wondered idly who his female friend was and how long he'd known her to suggest the idea to him. After all, he seemed to take the other girl's idea to consideration.

Why did it matter? Aislinn wondered suddenly. It wasn't like it should matter to her.. After all, many men had more than just one female friend... She felt herself blushing at her thoughts and quickly laughed it off lightly, as if she were responding to Will's comment about trying to find a good source of income.

"I'm sure you'll be able to find a good one. After all, although the island seems a bit small.. there's actually plenty of things you can do." Hopefully he hadn't noticed her blushing again... since there was nothing that he'd said that could make him understand why she had. Maybe he'd just think that it was getting a bit warm in the room with all the body heat now. Yea, hopefully. She couldn't understand why she was getting so flustered that night, either. Although she supposed some of it had to do with the fact that she knew that if Jill's bid went well, she would be going on a date with her new friend and she wasn't quite sure what to make of that.. yet.
