We just want to remind everyone to occasionally make a back-up copy of your profiles/homes/farms/shops/bank accounts or other topics that might be important to you.

We want you to do that just in case something unexpected happens -- namely, in case the board is either accidentally deleted by the InvisionFree staff or hacked. Lately there has been an increase in both random deletions and hackings, so we want to be prepared.

Backing up your profiles is your responsibility. We admins can't do it for you. (Making a back-up copy of the of the entire board isn't possible for some reason. ><)

Making a back-up is simple. All you have to do is: (this is for Windows users only, but backing it up on a Mac must be similar)

  • Click "Edit Post" on the post you want to save.
  • Click anywhere in the text field and hit "Ctrl" + "A" to highlight all the text.
  • Hit "Ctrl" + "C" to copy all the highlighted text.
  • Open a text editing program, like Notepad, Wordpad, Microsoft Word, Open Office, etc.
  • Hit "Ctrl" + "V" to paste the post into the word processing program.
To make back-ups of threads, it will probably be faster to save the webpage onto your computer. First, to minimize the number of webpages you have to save, go to your control panel on the board, then to 'Board Settings' (under 'Options'). Change the number of posts to show for each topic page to the maximum, 90. Now, saving web-pages varies between browsers.

For Internet Explorer:

  • Click the 'Page' button - it should be on the topbar, top-right corner, next to 'Tools' and underneath the search bar.
  • Click 'Save As...' - you will get a choice of formats. Webpage Complete will give you the page as it is, images and all. Webpage, HTML Only will be the same, but without images. Text file will give you only the text. A Web Archive File will give you the webpage as it is, links and whatnot embedded. Choose the one according to how much space you have.
  • Click 'Save' and it will be saved wherever you specified.
For Firefox:

  • Click 'File' in the top-left corner.
  • Select 'Save Page As...' and choose your format. They are the same as the ones in IE, with the exception of the Web Archive file. After you press save, it will be where you saved it.
For Google Chrome:

  • Click the icon next to the address bar; it's the one next to the wrench.
  • Select 'Save Page As' and choose your format. Click 'save'.
Sorry to anyone who uses Safari or Opera - you'll have to use Google to figure out how to do it, but it's probably similarly done.

Note: In any case, if your topic is several pages long, you unfortunately have to save every single page.

That's all you need to do! We're hopeful that this doesn't happen to us, but... We need to be prepared for anything, so backing up your important data is a very good idea.
