It was... almost creepy. That is, how similar their lives were. Zephyr did her best to hide such sentiments, however - as she listened to Caleb talk, she simply looked attentive and nothing more. As she listened, she continued to eat and drink, nodding every so often. But while she took in his words, of course she also formed her thoughts on them, behind the scenes. The first thing she noticed was how their lives could've easily have been identical, with a few minor tweaks. Throw her in Ireland, give her some doctors for parents and boom - she'd be like his long lost twin. However, their parents' plans for them did differ slightly: Caleb's wanted to him to be a doctor. Her's? They just wanted her to be generally, all-round wonderful - like a shiny trophy to show off, a queen to triumph over the pawns that were the children of others. And, like Caleb, such plans didn't pan out as precisely as anticipated. Inwardly, Zephyr laughed: in forcing this facade of the 'quintessential lady' onto her (which hardly held out around most people) hadn't they pushed her even farther from their so-called 'perfection'? The woman left her thoughts at this, though, and directed her attention more centrally to Caleb. So, he wasn't a doctor, huh? But if his parents really would have wanted him to go into their field, would they have pushed him into medical school? It seemed likely, and if that was the case, perhaps that was the school Caleb seemed hesitant to speak about? ... Of course, perhaps he snuck off to another type of school he was ashamed of... really, Zephyr couldn't be sure. But, at least she had an idea now of what it could be. Sipping her glass of cider, she went on listening as the blonde man went on to speak about his parents. A smiled and nodded, identifying with him yet again. Although her mother had been more supportive, from the sound of it, the general situation was the same. Hearing these things sort of felt like... someone was telling her about her own life. Yet, hearing the differences, she realized that it was indeed someone else. And with that realization, she felt... less alone. Although Zephyr was aware that there were hundred of others just like her and Caleb... Speaking to him here, on this little island far away from their homes, somehow made a bigger impression than just acknowledging a fact in her head. She felt grateful for this connection. As the man went on - he probably didn't want to get too into things, and she didn't blame him - she went with the continuing flow. Any comments about this could wait until later. Probably. Hobbies, huh? With the topic change, the tone of the conversation brightened. She smiled, listening to Caleb as he guessed one of her hobbies and labelled himself as a thrill-junkie. At this, her eyebrows arched with interest and laughed softly. She wouldn't have really guessed that he was. Looking at him, he did appear to have an athletic body. So she probably shouldn't have been surprised. Then again, having called him Rapunzel and Lady Moon (or whatever it had been), she couldn't really help it. On the other hand, he did seem like the artistic type. When the conversation was thrown back to her, Zephyr laid down her fork on the side of her mostly empty plate. Tapping her lip thoughtfully, she looked up to the clouds. After a moment of contemplation, she spoke. "Well, I do take an interest in mythology and the supernatural, yes. Fortune telling is somewhat of a forte of mine, I suppose! Ah... what else? I must say that naming my hobbies right off the bat is a little difficult." And, sadly, it actually was. Before she'd been programmed to mention some of the lessons she kept up with - tennis, dancing, and so forth. However they weren't things she did for fun. But then, what did she do in her free time, anyway? She never really thought about it. Did... 'searching for weird, stupid, fun things to do' count? Zephyr frowned. Just saying it in her head sounded silly. But she couldn't leave it at just that. So she went on, resorting to mentioning other things she took an interest in, or was good at. "Hm, well, I suppose I rather like gardening. I have not done it in a while, but I suppose I've obtained somewhat of a green thumb - olive-coloured, maybe...? Aside from that... I practice dancing every once in a while. And, when possible, I quite like to stargaze." Zephyr trailed off, unable to think of anything more. So instead, after a brief pause and a sip of her drink, she flipped the focus back to his hobbies. "I suppose a place like this island is close to paradise for a thrill-lover like you, isn't it? All wilderness and nature... ah! Perhaps, if you do not mind, I may accompany you sometime? I haven't really done many of those things, so I'd like to try!" Zephyr smiled at him, looking at him with bright, hopeful eyes. "And while I am at it, I must say I'd also love to see your art sometime. Personally I am a terrible artist, so it would help me to see how it's done properly." Ah, new frontiers, new frontiers! Though, she supposed it would only be fair to offer to share her hobbies with him, too. "Of course, if it interests you, I would be happy to take you stargazing, or whatever you so wish." A pause. Hm, was she coming off too strong? Frowning a little, she added, shrinking back a little bit, "Although, please don't feel obliged to do any of this! I wouldn't want to force you into doing something you have no desire to get into." |

Well, that is certainly a relief. Not only has Zephyr listened to his story, but she also has seemingly decided to not dig any deeper, at least for the time being. Caleb figures that it will only be a matter of time before the brown haired woman decides to break that metaphorical shovel, but by then, hopefully he’ll be a little more prepared to talk about it. Granted, telling somebody, anybody would be a giant weight lifted off of his shoulders, but at the same time, Caleb can’t say that he’s really looking for anybody’s pity or possible scorn. Alas though, it is a thing of the past for now as the blonde has moved the conversation ahead. Looking at Zephyr as he goes on about his hobbies, Caleb can’t help but notice the raised eyebrows and quiet laughter at the mention of him being a thrill junkie. Well, that’s really to be expected, he supposes. To be fair, after the way he described his upbringing, if he had heard it from anybody else, ‘thrill junkie’ would have definitely been a shock to him as well. Not thinking anything of it, Caleb continues to focus on his companion as it is now her turn to share. Sure enough, he was right on the money as far as a fascination with the supernatural is concerned. And the following statement about fortune telling went hand in hand with it as well. Might be interesting to try out sometime…hell, it would definitely be interesting to try out. Continuing to listen in as Zephyr proclaims her olive thumb, something that makes Caleb chuckle as she says it, the man reminisces about his own gardening expertise. Which to say, is fairly terrible. Yes, the man is skilled with his hands, but gardening was definitely something is left to be desired as far as Caleb’s repertoire goes. Dancing…with as graceful as she was during New Year’s Eve, that one was a given as well. As good as Zephyr is at it, it’s nice to know that it’s something she enjoys as well. And last but not least, stargazing. Well, that definitely sounds romantic…wait, where did that come from? Caleb shrugs the thought out of his head as he’s pretty sure that she was just simply answering his question. I suppose a place like this island is close to paradise for a thrill-lover like you, isn’t it?” Caleb smiles and nods at the woman’s inquiry before she continues on. ”All wilderness and nature… ah! Perhaps, if you do not mind, I may accompany you sometime? I haven‘t really done many of those things, so I‘d like to try!” Well, now there’s something unexpected. Not in a bad way at all, but unexpected nonetheless. At first glance, Zephyr as a thrill seeker is something that is a bit of a shocker, but after listening to her talk about her past, maybe it’s the wild child in her wanting to come out and play for a bit? Either way, it certainly could prove to be entertaining. And it would give him an excuse to see his friend again. Definitely not a bad proposition at all in the blonde’s mind. ”Of course, if it interests you, I would be happy to take you stargazing, or whatever you so wish.” Well now, that is definitely an interesting offer. Not that he’d mind at all, but still interesting coming from a female around his age. Watching as Zephyr frowns slightly and quickly says that Caleb doesn’t have to feel obligated to any of it, part of him inside smiles. Deciding to have a bit of fun with his friend, the blonde gets a concerned look on his face. Standing up and rubbing his chin in thought, he turns his vision downwards to lock eyes with Zephyr. “Well, I’m not so sure about that.” Caleb replies, a serious look still on his face. “Would I really want to spend my time with you..?” Pausing again and unable to keep up the ruse, a smile breaks out across the blonde’s face. “Yeah, I think I could handle hanging out with my best friend on the island. I’m just flattered that you are actually interested in the idea too. Not all of my ‘friends’ have been interested in spending time with me just for the sake of spending time with me.” Sitting back down on the blanket, Caleb reaches for the bottle of cider and fills up his glass again. Taking a sip as he looks at Zephyr, the blonde carries on. “So then, tell me how an upper class girl such as yourself has gotten into the fortune telling racket. It is fairly out of place with our backgrounds. I remember my parents getting mad at me just for having to read a ghost story in school. Forgive me for dragging on the subject, but I just find it to be very interesting. After all…the future is rather interesting.” |

She was reasonably sure that Caleb would agree. Or at the very least, she hoped he would. From the sound of things, neither of them really had too many people on the island to turn to. And they did seem to get along rather well so far, so she couldn't see much reason for him to decline. Which she was glad about - as just mentioned, she didn't really have many people she was close to here. So, an opportunity to get close to someone - and be able to have her real fun again - was something she really wanted... or maybe even needed. With these things the way she saw them, the woman was fairly confident that things would work out nicely for her. But when she noticed the contemplative expression on Caleb's face, she was - admittedly - surprised. Wh-wha...? Her brow furrowed, a frown twisting her lips. Her sudden insecurity deepened as he said, "Well, I'm not so sure about that. Would I really want to spend my time with you...?" Hrn. Her insecurity turned into a bit of bitterness towards herself. Perhaps she had been too overconfident about things... Just as Zephyr began to conjure up ways to fix this - or, depending on the perspective, direct the path back to the way she wanted - the man spoke again, smiling. Hearing that it was all a joke, Zephyr felt her cheeks warm slightly. She looked down at her plate, laughing sheepishly. Ahah... how silly of her. Surely she should know to read people better! The woman, although embarrassed at first, quickly shrugged it off and smiled, a genuine brightness restored in her eyes. "Hmm, keep scaring me like that and you may find that my desire to befriend you will change very quickly," she retorted, chuckling lightly in jest. "Though, I understand what you mean - everyone gets taken advantage of, but I have found that having a high-status family is like a high-power magnet for such treatment." The woman paused and sipped more of her own cider. Hm... though, everyone was also guilty of taking advantage of others at least one point in their life... or at least, most people. Although it was a bit shameful to admit it, she definitely had on many occasions... Zephyr found herself frowning at this thought. But Caleb's inquiry about her fortune telling pulled her away, leading her mind to come up with the answer. And although it was a large part of her life, she did have to think for a moment. It seemed like it had been in her blood since her birth, but she knew that definitely wasn't true... While she pondered though, Zephyr found her mouth going on auto-pilot. "Well," she said, leaning in slightly and lowering her voice. "Since I am your best friend on the island, I shall tell you... but, you must bring this secret to your grave." The woman paused, her eyes shifting back and forth suspiciously for a moment before she went on. "Hm... you see, Sir Moon, there is a reason why I have not mentioned the cause of my family's wealth. It is because it lies within the powers that flow through our blood... the ability of divinity, the power to see into the next hour." By this point, the woman had long remembered how she first got into her entire fortune telling and magic performing business. But... this story was just so much more fun - so she decided he didn't need to know the boring old truth today. Straightening up, the brown-haired woman smiled brightly, innocently. Raising her glass to her lips, she paused before she drank and said, "As you may guess, such a power if highly sought after. And things that are in high demand are matched with high prices, yes?" Zephyr arched her brows as she drank again, smiling as she swallowed the cider. Putting her now empty cup down, she turned her body to the side and stretched her legs out in front of her, with her knees together. Smiling faintly, she looked up at the sky and went on. "But yes, the future is rather interesting, isn't it? Even with the power of foresight, one can never really know what is to come. One may see a train coming straight their way, however it can still turn onto a different set of tracks." Idly running a hand through her hair, she went on, "And, who is to say what decides it? Is it the unseen power of fate, or does one have control of their own future...?" Trailing off a little, Zephyr glanced over at the man, still grinning. "What do you think, Caleb...?" |

While a smirk is on Caleb’s face as he pulls his little prank on Zephyr, the man can’t help but feel a little bad for doing it in the first place as the woman’s worried frown gets to him. While it was all in good fun, the man figures that maybe he should ease up, lest he offend his friend. The laughter from his companion as the joke sinks in though makes Caleb feel a whole lot better about it though. That’s right, it seems that she can definitely take a joke. Definitely a good thing, especially with her joking response. ”Though, I understand what you mean - everyone gets taken advantage of, but I have found that having a high-status family is like a high-power magnet for such treatment.” How true that is. Off the top of his head, Caleb can think of several instances where the only reason that he was included in a group’s activities was to more or less be a means to an end. Whether it be driving in a fancy car, hanging out in his home, or to buy rounds for ‘friends.’ Users and losers was the walk of life that Caleb had with friendships for the most part the man thinks as he looks back on it. Well, in a worst case scenario, since Zephyr came from a similar background, he can be pretty sure that she isn’t trying to manipulate him or otherwise use him. And if she is, well, she is doing an incredible job of hiding it. No…no need to think like that at all. Zephyr is a friend, plain and simple. No using, no manipulations. Just friendship. Now smiling at his little epiphany, the grin on Caleb’s face only grows at the words ”Since I’m your best friend on the island.” Well, she doesn’t seem too upset about his little confession. That is definitely a good thing in the blonde’s eyes. Putting it to the back of his mind for the time being, Caleb continues to listen as Zephyr goes into the ‘background’ of her fortune telling expertise. Well, the ability of foresight certainly does seem to be a bit of a tall tale, but there doesn’t seem to be anything sarcastic about it or anything; rather Zephyr seemingly embellishing the truth a tad for a more entertaining story. Kind of like the whole ‘treasure hunting’ line she had fed him when they had first met. Like that first time, though, Caleb opts to play along, figuring it would be more entertaining than raising up questions. “Through your blood, hmm?” Caleb replies, grin still etched on his face. “So it’s kind of like a disease…well, that might not be the best way to refer to it as…is there such a thing as a good disease?” Realizing he’s just rambling at this point, the blonde chuckles nervously before turning back to his friend. “Well, either way, it is certainly rather interesting, my dear. Wish I could be so lucky as to have a gift like that.” Nodding as the brown haired woman continues to describe her powers, the blonde man’s ears perk up as she ends with a series of questions. ”And, who is to say what decides it? Is it the unseen power of fate, or does one have control of their own future…?” Looking on at the grinning girl, the gears in Caleb’s mind continue to turn as she asks another one. ”What do you think, Caleb…?” Hmm…well this should certainly prove to be entertaining. Fate versus calling your own shots. It certainly is a pretty good question. As the blonde ponders over it, he runs his hand across his chin as if to assist in his thoughts. Taking a sip of his cider, Caleb looks back up at the girl. “Well, it is a good question, Zephyr.” The blonde begins, smiling as he continues on. “Personally, I would have to say that it is a mixture of both? I mean, we all make our own decisions, we all have the freedom of choice, able to do whatever we wish whenever we wish. But then, on the other hand, there are other things that seem to be ‘fate’ or ‘destiny.’ A good case in point would be our first meeting in that pub. I chose to go that night, as did you, but the fact that we both decided on it and wound up getting acquainted…well, that would certainly point to us meeting as fate as one of us could have decided to have gone on a different day or the like. Even if one of us would have gone or left an hour earlier, odds are we could have missed each other entirely. So like I said, my answer is a little of both.” Pausing briefly as he takes another sip, the man turns back to Zephyr, an inquisitive look on his face. “So then, what else would the pretty lady like to talk about? So much to choose from, after all.” |

“A disease?” Zephyr echoed, her lips bending in an exaggerated frown. Her brow furrowed and she forced sorrow into her eyes, mockingly hurt. “Your words hurt me, Caleb. They really do. Ouch.” When the man went on rambling a little bit, though, her expression eased back into a happy one. The woman laughed lightly, rather amused by his small bout of babbling. It always made her happy to see someone from a higher class occasionally have a conversational stumble. It reminded her that people from that pool of society were certainly not perfect or different from everyone else, so she didn’t need to force herself to be either. And of course, it was also just sort of funny. Regardless of that, as the blonde man went on, telling her he wished to be lucky to have a gift like her ‘ability’, she smiled more broadly. “Ah, Caleb, surely you do not give yourself enough credit!” she said cheerfully. “I mean, everyone has their gifts, and one is no better than another.” Zephyr gave a confident nod. She really believed in this, after all – every person had their strengths and weaknesses, and each was special in their own way. Discovering them was just another fun part of life, wasn’t it? As the conversation went on, Zephyr found herself quite interested in Caleb’s response to her query. Although there was definitely no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answer to these things, it was always very intriguing to hear people’s different and unique opinions. And Caleb’s proved to be no exception. As she listened, she nodded in agreement. Like most things in life, this issue was not black and white, or at least she believed so as well. Smiling gently, she spoke. “I’d have to say that I agree with you, for the most part. We walk along our own paths, and choose where we want to go, as well as how we want to get there. I don’t think I would be happy in a world where I would not be able to choose what direction I move through life in.” Zephyr ran a hand over her dress, smoothing it out as she paused. “However, of course there are events in our lives that fate throws in for a reason, here and there. I also don’t think I’d be happy in a world where there are no obstacles.” The woman fell silent for a moment, contemplating over her words. She then decided she was happy with what she said, and how it was phrased. Turning towards Caleb as he asked her what she would like to talk about, she pursed her lips and thought. Hm… she wasn’t really sure, to be honest. Though, Caleb’s referral to her as ‘the pretty lady’ did spark a question in her mind: were these just empty endearments or did they actually mean something? Touching her index finger to her lip, she eyed him briefly. Of course, she couldn’t say for sure but she could ask him… But! For now, the woman chose not to. She didn’t really want to risk wrecking something that had been fun so far with something so forward. Biting her lower lip, Zephyr’s eyes wandered around briefly as she thought. After a moment, she finally said, “Well, I suppose while we’re on the topic of the future… what do you have planned for your own, Caleb? Where would you like to see yourself, and what do you want to do with your years of this wonderful blessing called life?” Turning her gaze back onto what was in front of her, she soon found her eyes settling on the picnic basket nearby. Smiling sheepishly, she pointed to it and looked up at Caleb. “Personally, in my immediate future, I would like to start on dessert… that's okay with you…?” |

Well now, that’s certainly not good. Caleb certainly hadn’t meant his little ‘disease’ analogy to be in a hurtful manner. The last thing the blonde man felt like doing was antagonizing his friend. Although, with the cheerful expression that Zephyr throws on after he trips over his words in an attempt in correction, the man isn’t exactly sure how much of the emotion his companion showed was genuine. Especially with the upbeat remark about everybody having their own gifts. Seems that Zephyr is a ‘the glass is half full’ type…a pleasant change in what he usually sees in his companions. Watching on as Zephyr gauges his response to her fate question, Caleb is pleased to hear that the woman’s response of mostly agreeing with his take on the matter. Heh…honestly, it seems to the man that him and Zephyr are two sides of the same coin. As he listens on and thinks to himself, a slight look of sadness comes over Caleb’s face. As sad as it is for him, the bond that he shares with Zephyr is the strongest that he has had in his life with someone. A person that wants nothing from him other than friendship. A person that isn’t judging him or forcing him into something that he doesn’t want to do. Maybe even a soul mate down the road? The thought causes Caleb’s face to lighten up again and forces a quiet chuckle from his lips. While he certainly wouldn’t mind the prospect, now certainly isn’t the day to bring it up. It feels…cheap to do on Valentine’s Day. That, plus Caleb isn’t exactly sure how she would react to the little tidbit relating to how and why he came to the island in the first place. She had agreed to not judge…but just in case, mum’s the word for now. Why ruin a good thing, after all. The man figures that he’ll just have to wait and see what fate has in store for him. Snapping himself out of his thoughts as he notices the silence, he turns his attention back to Zephyr as she seems to be locked in thought. Noticing as she looks him over for a brief moment, the man wracks his brain trying to think of could be running through her head. Well, considering the fact that he had just asked her what she wants to discuss next, odds are that’s probably what she’s pondering. After a few moments, the man’s ears perk up as she speaks. ”Well, I suppose while we’re on the topic of the future… what do you have planned for your own, Caleb? Where would you like to see yourself, and what do you want to do with your year of this wonderful blessing called life?” As the man ponders over Zephyr’s inquiry, he can’t help but laugh over her plans for the future for consuming dessert. Well, at least she’s got a game plan. Figuring it would be rude to answer her question before serving up dessert, the blonde smiles as he reaches into the basket. “Well, it wouldn’t do for me to discuss my future without satisfying yours, my dear, so that’s why we got this little number.” Smirking as he pulls out a disk shaped object wrapped in foil, he sets it down on the blanket and uncovers it, revealing a pie. “I know I said that I grabbed some goodies from the café, but just in case cookies don’t interest you, I got this little number. A homemade peach pie. Well, kind of homemade, if you consider making stuff in my shop to be as such. Like I said, it still isn’t complete, but it’s better equipped to do some simple cooking than my little shack is.” Reaching into the basket again and taking out a couple of smaller plates, Caleb dishes up a piece of the dessert and hands it to Zephyr. Hopefully she’ll like it. It’s been a while since Caleb has made a pie, so he’s hoping that he didn’t overkill on sugar or anything of the sort. Opting to continue on with their conversation, the blonde makes eye contact with his friend and answers. “As for what I would like to do with my future…well, as is the case with anyone, it could change at any time, but for the time being, I would have to say that I would enjoy staying on this island for starters. It seems nice enough of a place, calm and peaceful, beautiful scenery…you get the gist of it. In the immediate future, I’d like to see construction done on my shop. Like I said, I can do a bit of cooking with the equipment in there, but that’s about the only thing as interior decorating…well, let’s just say it leaves something to be desired. As for things a little more in the future, maybe settle down with a nice girl, have a family one of these years. Not really original as a lot of people would want that, but at least it’s honest, right? And…I suppose maybe get back to speaking terms with my parents eventually.” Finishing up his spiel, Caleb looks down at the baked slice of heaven on his plate and takes a bite. Yeah, it’s definitely a little bit on the sweet side. Not inedible by any means, but enough to it to make Caleb hope that Zephyr isn’t a diabetic. “Um…just as a fair warning, it may be a little sweeter than I intended.” Caleb says with a sheepish grin. “So now then, let’s hear about Miss Zephyr’s future ambitions, shall we? What exactly would the lady have in store for future ambitions, hmm?” Caleb pauses briefly before adding with a playful smirk. “Well, other than treasure hunting, of course.” |

Whoa! A surprise pie! Zephyr smiled, a sparkle shining in her eyes as the man revealed a second part to the dessert. Surprises were always fun, and especially so if they were edible. And sweet. “It looks delicious,” the woman said brightly, taking the plate gingerly from Caleb as it was handed to her. “Thank you! Homemade or shop-made, I am sure it tastes wonderful either way.” The woman took her fork in her hand and was about to dig into her dessert… however, she caught sight of all their other dishes still lying about on the picnic blanket. For a moment, the brunette simply stared at them, unsure of whether or not to scratch the itch that was her need to clean up. One of the lessons she had been taught as a child was to do her part both as a woman and someone who took part in the meal to help tidy up. Would it seem strange? Zephyr glanced up at Caleb. Well… even if it was, it wasn’t like she had yet to say anything odd to the man. So, setting the pie down next to her, she began to tidy up, gathering up the plates and wrapping up what was left of the food. As she did, she listened to her friend as he carried on their conversation. She nodded, glancing up every once in a while as he spoke. Ah, so it seemed like he had honest, humble ambitions. It was a nice thing to hear, especially considering his background. Although, even so, Zephyr wouldn’t have been complaining if he’d given a crazy or superfluous answer. However, she did have to admit that his last comment about his parents particularly piqued her attention. As he mentioned it, her features softened into a gentle smile. It struck a chord with her, both in that she hoped he would be able to accomplish such a goal and in that it dragged her thoughts to her relations with her own mother and father. They were still on decent, civil terms… or at least, they were the last time they spoke. Hm, how long ago had it been anyway…? The woman couldn’t remember exactly, and it dampened her expression reasonably. The urge to go home and write a letter began to creep over her. But! She was still here in a fun situation, so she hastily shoved it away for the time and put on her smile again as Caleb spoke once more. “Um… just as a fair warning, it may be a little sweeter than I intended,” he told her. Zephyr looked up at him and smiled, shaking her head. “Thank you, but I am sure it’s fine. Sweet things are always a treat.” With that, she took the picnic basket and began to put the food back into it, arranging things so that they fit nicely. While she did, Caleb directed the question back to her, asking her what her ambitions were. “Ah, just a moment,” she said somewhat absently, rather absorbed in her task. Then, after a moment she closed it again and grinned, finally picking up her plate. “There! The least I could do for you, Chef Caleb.” Still grinning cheerfully, she proceeded to take her first bite of the peach pie. Chewing it thoughtfully, a larger, brighter smile appeared over her lips after swallowing. “Perfect. I like this amount of sweetness.” Taking another forkful, she placed it in her mouth and chewed thoughtfully once more, this time formulating an answer to his question. After swallowing, she spoke: “My ambitions? Well, as of right now, I suppose I have one main one opposed to individual goals.” Here, she stopped briefly, taking a forkful of pie and a pause to chew and swallow before continuing, “And that would be to live so that every moment of life is interesting. Or, at least, almost every one.” Another pause to eat. Zephyr’s eyes were directed skyward as she did – still thinking of things to add to her answer. “On my deathbed, I would like to be able to smile as I leave this world, knowing I had as much fun in it as I could.” Eating some more of her pie, Zephyr went on, “But to be honest, I quite like just seeing where life takes me. For now. I do suppose that, down the road, I’ll want to do some things like settle down and get married. Maybe go back home.” The woman gave a somewhat casual nonchalant shrug as she fell into a bit of silence and finished up her slice. Cleaning up her plate, she wondered briefly if she ate it too quickly… But, she supposed it was no big deal. It was good, and a little hard to stop eating – if anything, he should take it as a compliment. Anyway, she had to ask herself, where should things go from here? The woman stretched her arms, feeling quite full from the delicious lunch and quite content under the warm, spring sun. Though, she was beginning to feel pretty sleepy as a result of the two. A nap sounded like the only thing she wanted to do right now, but of course it would be awful to just lie down and go to sleep right here… Perhaps, then, they should start returning to town? Surely Caleb might have some things to take care of at his shop anyway. And, well, although it would be nice to stay here and talk endlessly, she didn’t want to spend all her chips in one game. Or rather, learn everything about one another in one sitting. The mystery and intrigue was part of the fun, too, wasn’t it? So, picking her words carefully, Zephyr proposed the change of scenery: “As lovely as it is here… would you like to continue things on our way back into town?” |

Watching Zephyr’s reaction to the impromptu dessert, Caleb can’t help but smile himself. His grin only growing as she expresses her gratitude. Hopefully the extra sugar won’t bug her, at least. As the blonde watches on, anxious to see what her reaction will be, the happy look on his face is replaced by one of confusion as the brunette sets the pie down next to her. Cleaning up…? Wow, that just makes the blonde feel like a jerk. True, he hadn’t asked her to help clean or even implied it, but it still makes him feel a little guilty that she’s doing the cleaning, especially seeing as how she is his guest. Well, one act of kindness deserves another. Caleb bows his head and utters a ‘thank you’ as he thinks of how to pay his friend back. Laughing aloud at the whole Chef Caleb title, Caleb watches on with a look of nervousness once again as Zephyr digs into the pie despite his warning. The blonde finally lets a sigh of relief escape his lips as the woman refers to the dessert as ‘perfect.’ Maybe a little generous with the compliment, but Caleb will definitely take it. His fears of a ruined dessert purged from his mind now, the blonde finds it easier to focus in on his again. Looking over at his friend as she speaks, Caleb nods in between bites as she answers his question about her future. Wanting to avoid boredom…well, there’s certainly nothing wrong with that at all. And given the impulsiveness that Zephyr had shown during New Years when she donned his tie, the man can’t really say that he’s too shocked over that little revelation. The additional answer about being able to smile on her deathbed is a little more on the morbid side than he would have expected, but at least it’s an honest answer. And really, being at that level of peace when one’s time comes would be the best way to go. Although, Caleb can’t see that happening for a very long time, thankfully. ”But to be honest, I quite like just seeing where life takes me. For now. I do suppose that, down the road, I’ll want to do some things like settle down and get married. Maybe go back home.” Raising an eyebrow at the last part of her statement, Caleb finds himself hoping that just like the whole deathbed thing, Zephyr leaving the island is something that won’t happen for a long time. True, Caleb is sure that given time, he could make more friends, but at the cost of the brunette leaving…it doesn’t really leave a good taste in his mouth. Conversely, the pie really is better than Caleb thought it would be, as he is down to just the crust now. Looking from the plate back over to Zephyr, the man is surprised to see that her plate is now cleared. Dang, she wasn’t lying when she said she liked it. Unless she chucked it into the pond or something, but considering the fact that he hasn’t heard a loud splash or anything of the sort, Caleb is doubting that is a possibility. As the brunette stretches her arms behind her head, the man can’t help but notice the look of fatigue starting to settle on her face. It’s got to be the meal. Knowing all too well the mechanics of how the body works and adding in the fact that she more or less confessed to not having the best of eating habits at this point in time, it’s a natural conclusion to come to. Well, at least he won’t have to worry about her withering away to nothing in the next couple of days or so. ”As lovely as it is here… would you like to continue things on our way back to town?” Alas, all good things must come to an end; this picnic being one of those. Considering that it looks like the girl could really use a nap, Caleb smiles at her and nods his head before picking himself up off of the ground. Walking a few feet away, Caleb pivots back around and scans his surroundings for a few moments, taking in the scenery. Nodding again, Caleb makes his way back to his companion, extending his hand towards her. “Well then, would the fair lady like a hand up?” |
