So he hadn't meant to put the salt in his drink. This helped Lia's eyes release from holding their widely shock, and instead they fell closed while her hand covered her mouth trying to hold back the soft laughter that was unable to be kept quiet. It was a rather adorable mistake; Lia figured these type of mistakes happened to him often by his calm reaction. Now, didn't he say something about it not tasting half bad? It was a little hard to believe, but being she'd not taken the time herself to try such a creation she could only nod in belief of the one and only who tasted salt and cocoa.

After her soft laughter came to a settling stop sign, she smiled gently across the table at Derek "I hope you did not take my laughter as being rude. I'm sorry, I could not control it." She shuffled her feet and poked at some of her food with her fork, changing her gaze down at her plate. "It's just I thought you had meant to, you see. That is why I was so thrown at the action. It was just...." dare she use the word cute for a man? "Adorable." She decided.

Her cheeks a little flushed because she'd just complimented a man, and told him he was 'adorable' which was better than cute, but was also used to describe kids she thought best to change the subject. Remembering his earlier question she quickly threw her head into a nod, and picked up a cookie on her plate "My foods just fine, actually. I'm surprised for such a large group they put together such large amounts of wonderful food."

A soft giggle surpassed her lips, and she looked down more at her plate. Ketchup or hot sauce in cocoa? Now, that would have been rather hard to mistake for the sugar shaker. She was able to hold back another laugh, and quickly shoved a bite of cookie inside to muffle anymore laughter that might be trying to escape, because the expression she imagined on his face after dumping pounds of hot sauce into his cocoa was enough to send her into hysterics.

"Rude"? Were other people actually able to...uh...be that? Derek was used to people using that name when referring to <i>him</i>. And that was one of the <i>nicer</i> terms used.
<br><br>

Now that he was fully aware that he'd put salt into his cocoa, he tried gulping it down as fast as he could. No wonder it tasted funny. It wasn't necessarily all that bad, but... Sugar was better. Infinitely better. He wondered what Mayan chocolate tasted like... They hadn't used salt in it, had they? Just peppers? And dried corn? And whatever else was available to them? They didn't have milk, did they? Goat or sheep milk, maybe, but not cow milk...
<br><br>

Cocoa related thoughts swirled through his head, completely enveloping him, until he had finished his cocoa. He then realised that Lia had kept talking. Oops. He was <i>supposed</i> to be paying attention, right?
<br><br>

Derek had a feeling that Wyatt was watching him from somewhere, laughing his head off.
<br><br>

<i>"My foods just fine, actually. I'm surprised for such a large group they put together such large amounts of wonderful food."</i>
<br><br>

At least he caught that! "Oh, yeah," he agreed, looking over tot he refreshment table, and then talking the sugar shaker to pour a little bit of sugar into his milk tea. Just a small amount of sugar. The milk itself tended to sweeten the tea.
<br><br>

"At least this time I <i>know</i> it's sugar," he said happily as he set the sugar shaker down. "So, Lia, Um..." he racked his brain for something polite to say. <i>What kind of stuff did Aunt Ida Mae say I should say? Uh... Oh! Yeah!</i> "Do you do... any stuff for fun?" he asked, ending his sentence a bit abruptly as he suddenly grew shy and brought his mug up to his mouth.
<br><br>

Talking certainly wasn't one of his strong points...
