The Peeps: Caleb/Clint
The Event: Chillin like a Villain

Enjoying himself immensely as the cold begins to slightly numb his body, Caleb finds himself being taken out of his thrill junkie zone as notices a man looking down at him, kneeling on the ice. The blissful laughter immediately coming to an end, the blonde looks up at the newcomer with a shocked scowl on his face. Not so much a scowl, but the water is starting to get to him a little bit, so that’s probably how it’s going to wind up looking.

”Hey…How’s the waters?”

Well, that’s certainly pleasant. Here Caleb was figuring that the newcomer was going to come along and chastise him for doing something ‘suicidal.’ Nothing to worry about yet, anyways. He figures that it would take a good five minutes before anything would happen to him other than being a bit cold. Watching on as the man smiles at him and sticks his hand in the water in a way of answering his own question, Caleb smiles back and nods.

“Ah, it’s not too bad.” Caleb replies, smiling as warmly as a man in thirty five degree water can. “Definitely a good way to wake up your body, that’s for sure.”

Chuckling as he continues to tread water, Caleb looks over the man, not sure what to make of him at this point. From the best he can tell, the man appears to be around Caleb’s age, though to the untrained eye, he would probably seem older. Really tall too, probably about a half foot or so taller than the chilling doc. Lean, but not malnourished. And to top it off…the scent of horse? Well, unless the cold water is deciding to play tricks on his nose for whatever reason. Cowboy or rancher of some sorts? That’s what the physical evidence would point towards at the moment for the blonde anyways. Looking around the water, Caleb notes that the hole in the ice could probably fit two people if they were to scrunch in like sardines…but that doesn’t really sound too fun. Looking up at the man, obviously a little overdressed for pond diving, Caleb decides to have some fun anyways. Looking up at the newcomer with a smirk, the blonde speaks.

“Oh, I’m sorry there. Would you like a turn in the ice, boyo?”

Clint nodded at the man's response, his smile fading as he withdrew his hand and attempted to dry it on his pant leg as he stood up once more. Also brushing off the snow that had accumulated when he had knelt on his knees, though it really hadn't been much, considering the falling snow was at present very light. Clint was about to turn and walk away, leave the man in peace, when he suddenly spoke again.

“Oh, I’m sorry there. Would you like a turn in the ice, boyo?”

Raising his head up just a little, Clint blinked as his mind hurried to catch up with the words spoken. When it did, only really a matter of seconds later, a grin broke out on his face and he laughed. He shook his head, still grinning, and waved his hand in a dismissive gesture as his gaze suddenly turned to the ice beneath his boots. It was a good thing his boots, the only pair he currently owned, had some tread on them. In all this snow and ice. Had been quite useful at times back up in Wyoming, too.

"Naw, not t'day. Reckon 'm a bit overdressed for that." Lifting his head with another small smile showing through, he decided to add, since the man seemed to be of a good humor, "But thanks for the offer."

With her eyes still narrowed, Soleil thought about what the man had to say. Soleil had no use for the word sorry; it nearly went in one ear and out the other. She had heard the word so often without any meaning that it had no effect on her anymore. Sorry, was just another five letter word.

Anything, now that was a word she knew. She used to get anything she wanted and now she didn’t. She quirked an eyebrow, almost wondering if he had really said that he’d do anything for her. She could think of numerous things, some were horrible, but then, that’s just how Soleil was some of the times.

“Freshen your cup of coffee, perhaps?” Soleil glanced down at her coffee. That’s right; some of her coffee had sloshed over the side when she got hit by a snowball. She supposed that would have to do. She thought about it for a second and then answered.

“Mm, I suppose that will do. I want it black, though, nothing in it. If there is, I will make you go back and get me another one,” Soleil told him simply. She nearly shoved the coffee cup into the man’s hand before saying, “Stop saying sorry, the word means nothing.”

During all of this, she had hardly seen the younger boy standing behind the man. While she may have been the French teacher at the school, kids weren’t her specialty. Sometimes she liked them, sometimes she didn’t. She was hardly an adult herself, being only twenty-one, almost twenty-two.

I’ll be all right, she reassured herself, and bit down on her bottom lip. Determinedly, she straightened herself up and did as Will instructed her to do, slowly pushing away from the rail and moving her feet forward. She could feel the motion as her ice skates immediately glided across the slick ice, and she couldn’t help but thrust both her arms out at her side in an attempt to keep herself balanced.

Her heart was still beating a million miles a second, and she was having trouble taking in any air. Slowly, she began to come to a stop, and she brought her arms back to her chest, holding them over her heart. She…had done it! Excited, she turned to glance over her shoulder, and faltered slightly when she realized that she’d made it only a couple feet away from the handrail. Not nearly enough to be excited about, but way too far for her to grab onto it anymore.

She started to flail, which was the wrong decision to make, as she felt the hold of her skates on the frozen surface slip.

"Yes, ma'am. I'll be right back with just the black coffee." Ulysses said, having to bite his own tongue from trying to apologize anymore. Though nearly getting sprayed by the liquid when she shoved it in his hands helped, just a little. Taking a step backwards, coffee cup in hand, he turned to his nephew and, fearing to the leave the young child alone with a seemingly quite cross woman he had never met before, said,

"Come, Trey, you can help me remember once we get over there." Ulysses told the child, and, wide-eyed, Trey nodded and hurried on behind Ulysses. It really only took a matter of minutes and he was back fairly quickly. With a cup full of straight black coffee. He offered it to her with a smile.

"There, how's this now? To your satisfaction, miss?" Ulysses questioned, wondering if she might have some unknown qualm with it and send him back for another one anyway.

”Naw, not t’day. Reckon ‘m a bit overdressed for that.”

Hmm…adding the dialogue in with the other observations and Caleb is getting closer in believing that his cowboy idea is holding more and more water. With all of the people that his parents had him associate with, Caleb can safely say that cowboy isn’t one of them. Nor was farmer, factory worker, butcher, or anything else that would require anything that could be construed as labor for that matter. Not one to make friends easily, but Caleb would at least like to attempt to befriend somebody from a different walk of life than him. Or try to, anyways.

“Yeah, that would be one of the strangest swimsuits that I think I would ever see.” Caleb responds with a chuckle, pulling himself out of the ice as he does so. “Well, I think that’s enough in the water, anyways. Best to get out while I still have feeling in my body I suppose.”

Getting to his feet, Caleb realizes that his guess on the man’s height was more or less right on the money as he finds himself staring up at him. And here he was thinking that nearly six feet tall was pretty high. Feeling the water in his hair beginning to freeze up and knowing that he doesn’t have much time left before he runs the risk of hypothermia, the blonde realizes that it would probably be in the better interest of his health to get his clothes back on. Looking back towards the tree where he set his duffle bag, Caleb figures that it might be a good idea to ask the taller man a favor.

“Say, this might sound a little strange, but could you maybe give me a hand? I don’t really have much of a desire to freeze to death, so could you be so kind as to make sure nobody comes along while I change behind that tree over there?” Caleb mentally slaps himself, forgetting his tact. Blame it on the cold. “My apologies. How terribly rude of me to ask a favor of a complete stranger. My name is Caleb Moon. Can I count on you to keep watch for me, mister…?”

The Event: A daring rescue?
((Ah, no problem. It’s been forever since I’ve skated, so it’s taken me a bit to remember the basics myself. And I’m happy for your muse as well! ^_^))
--

Grinning from ear to ear as Chou is apparently going to give it a go, Will watches on, skating a few feet away from her just in case she winds up needing his help. She’s got the confidence…well, more than she had previously at least. She should be fine. Standing up straight now, definitely a good first step. Sliding nice and easy…so far, so good.

“You’re doing great, Chou! Keep it up!” Will offers encouragement as the girl moves along slowly but surely. “Smooth ice ahead. You got this down!”

True, the girl isn’t exactly moving the fastest in the world…well, not very fast at all, to be honest, but at least it’s forward progress. Progress that she is making completely on her own without the assistance of the handrail, for that matter. Looking behind them, Will notes that there is nobody in the near area, which is definitely a plus. Nobody to accidentally knock the girl over, at least. As he continues to look behind him, he notices that Chou is now in his rearview mirror; apparently deciding to come to a stop. The look of joy and triumph on her face is a clear indicator that she’s enjoying herself, at least. Yes, it was only a few feet, but it’s still progress, right? Definitely something to build on…

Oh, that isn’t good. The happy look on Chou’s face has gone to the wayside…she came to a complete stop in the middle of the ice, being far away enough to take the hand rail out of the equation. What’s more, the girl obviously isn’t able to get herself moving again…well, not in a forward motion anyways. Arms flailing…she’s going to fall!

“Hang on, Chou! I’m coming!”

Muttering profanities to himself for unintentionally getting so far ahead of her, Will quickly U-turns, building up speed in order to make it in time. Coming in at an angle, the black haired man is fully aware that he is going too fast and is going to wind up knocking poor Chou over at this rate. Deciding to take a trick from his work onstage, Will opts to do an electric guitar slide. Wincing slightly as his knees come down on the ice, at least his speed has been cut enough where he should be able to help her out without tackling her. Watching as Chou’s arms continue to flail, Will extends his own, hoping to catch her in time…
--

((Judgment time! Does Will make the heroic rescue, or is a hard, cold, slippery surface in the cards for Chou? Only time (and you. Mostly you. :P) will decide.))

She would regret it later. If she realized the extent Will had gone to catch her and make sure she didn’t fall down onto the ice, that is. At the moment, however, everything was happening too fast for her to keep up with. She could feel herself tipping backwards as the traction was lost underneath her skates, and she could hear her new friend, Will, calling to her. But, suddenly, her surroundings were the bright blue sky and a dizzying swirl of colors.

Then, just as quickly, everything ended. Except for the rapid pumping of her heart as it sent a loud ringing to her ears as a heavy throbbing pressure against her head. She also felt conflicted, however, and couldn’t help feeling an overwhelming amount of embarrassment at her failure.

The People: Caleb/Clint
The Event: Not freezing to death

--

Clint Allen…hmm, catchy name. After Clint tells him he’ll keep watch and tips his hat in acknowledgement. Scurrying behind the tree, the blonde can’t help but notice out of the corner of his eye as the girl that was with Clint does some scurrying away of her own. Caleb figures that based on the age difference, the girl would have to be his sister or cousin maybe. She didn’t seem to be too terribly chatty; well, mute is a more accurate term to describe her. But then again, if he was in the girl’s shoes and some half naked guy was swimming around in a frozen over pond, he’d probably be a little on the tight lipped side as well. Figuring there’s plenty of time to talk and think for that matter once he doesn’t have to worry about freezing to death. Scurrying about, the man double checks to make sure that nobody can see him from any other angles, lest he go from ‘daredevil winter swimmer’ to ‘crazy winter streaker lunatic.’ Confirming that the way is, in fact free of people, the blonde quickly goes about his business, relieved that the base of the tree isn’t slick at all. Last thing the former doctor needs is to crack his head and be unconscious as well as practically naked.

“Just a couple more minutes!”

Coming to the realization that Clint is probably thinking that the man has a screw loose at this point, Caleb makes a point to hustle up with the donning of his clothes. Sure enough, the blonde is able to get through the whole ordeal unscathed, shirt on correctly, boxers on the inside of his slacks, and shoes being on the correct feet. Emerging and running a hand through his hair, Caleb can still feel the ice inhabiting his locks. Ah well. Somehow, Caleb figures that Clint isn’t going to really be too concerned with how his hair looks.

“Well, thank you once again, Clint.” Caleb says with a smile, extending his hand for a proper handshake now that he is fully clothed and (somewhat) warm. “I figure that with me being new in town that it would probably be good if people didn’t think I was a streaker or anything of the sort.”

Smiling in gratitude at Clint, Caleb finally has enough and grabs the bottom of his hair. Running it through, the men are treated to the soft sound of small chunks of ice pitter pattering on the ground. Happy that his head doesn’t feel as heavy any more, the blonde turns his attention back to Clint. Deciding to test the whole cowboy hypothesis, the blonde man speaks up.

“So Clint, where’s your horse at?” Caleb inquires, quickly speaking again so he doesn’t come off as a jerk. “Not trying to be disrespectful, but I’m assuming that it would be a correct guess as for what you do. You’ve got the look, and the scent. Not that it’s a bad thing. I’m rather fond of horse riding myself, to be honest.”

The Event: Playing the Hero! ^_^
--

Arms still extended, Will closes his eyes in nervous anticipation hoping…praying that he is able to keep his newfound friend from crashing hard into the ice. The few seconds of uncertainty feel like an eternity for the black haired man as he hopes that he feels some weight in his arms soon. Sure enough, much to Will’s relief, the only crashing that Chou does is into his arms. The man’s arms buckle ever so slightly, causing Will to be grateful that the girl is on the lighter side of the weight scale. Eyes finally opening, Will looks down at Chou, the girl looking up at him rather timidly.

“Told you I wasn’t going to let you fall.” Will smiles reassuringly, feeling slightly guilty that it’s a half lie of sorts as the girl’s feet did wind up leaving the ice in a rather unfortunate manner. “Are you okay, Chou?”

Looking down at the girl, Will can’t help but notice that the girl has tears forming in the corners of her eyes. Still feeling bad for putting the girl in the situation, all Will can think to do at the moment is wrap his arms around Chou in hopes of comforting her. After a couple of moments of silence, the man’s ears peak up at the sound of his companion’s voice.

”B-baby steps? That was a good…first try, wasn’t it?”

“You did just fine, Chou. It might not have gone as well as we would have hoped, but at least you gave it a try. That‘s some real courage right there.” Will replies, trying to offer support. However, the tone in her voice, added in with the girl’s nervousness prior is making it fairly clear to Will that it would probably be in their best interests to get off the ice. While it’s nothing that he figures is too serious, his knees are now beginning to hurt him a little bit without the painkiller of Chou being in distress. Repositioning the girl in his arms, Will manages to stand up holding her bridal style, happy again that she’s light and easy to carry. He could have tried to help her skate off, but with their height differences, it might be a little tough to pull that off.

Sitting Chou down on a bench, Will pulls up some bench as well. Turning back to the girl, Will smiles warmly as he works on untying his skates. Seeing as the girl still looks a little shaken up, the black haired man puts a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

“If you’re up for it, there’s always next year, after all. No worries. If and when you’re ready, just let me know.” Still smiling, Will figures he’ll try to take her mind off of her little ordeal. “Say, how does a nice cup of hot chocolate sound? I know I’m a little chilly, after all.”

She felt like a little girl again, as Will held her the way her father used to, when she was younger. Back then, she would wrap her arms around her father’s neck, and she had felt so small in his large arms. The feeling wasn’t much different now, she realized, only now truly noticing their size difference. Glancing up at Will, she silently took in his facial features, noting, as well, that he had a man’s look about him. Her father had the same strong grin, though he’d had a lot more facial hair and crinkly eyes and, really, he hadn’t looked Japanese at all.

Thoughts of her father hadn’t plagued her mind in quite a long time, and the feeling was both somewhat nostalgic and very depressing. It wasn’t as though she still lived in Hougeki, and could take a walk down to the graveyard to bring him flowers and tell him how she has been lately. She really wanted to, she realized. So much.

“Say, how does a nice cup of hot chocolate sound?” Will’s voice broke through her thoughts, and she blinked, glancing over at him. She hadn’t realized that he had already set her down, and was taking off his skates. Slowly, she did the same as well, reaching down to remove her own.

“I know I’m a little chilly, after all,” He added with a smile.

Soleil watched in content as the man walked off to get her some new coffee. She watched the child walk with him, still not giving all too much thought to it. Why should she? Perhaps he was his child or some other form of relative, but it hardly mattered to her. She just wanted her coffee—a sort of form of justice for being hit by a rogue snowball.

Soon enough, the man had come back. At this point, she did not know his name, but had to call him something. She couldn’t just keep calling him ‘that man’ in her thoughts. She pondered on what to call him. Frosty? No, that made it out to sound like he was a cold person—even if the stories of the talking snowman were nice. Snowball would make for a great name, he had hit her with a snowball and it was rather amusing.

Soleil took the coffee from Snowball with ease. She brought the hot liquid to her lips, glancing over the top at Snowball before taking a small sip. The hot liquid, almost burning, tasted just fine. She almost wished there was a reason to find something wrong with it, but she could not.

“Mm, it is quite fine Monsieur Snowball. Merci beaucoup,” Soleil nodded with a smirk as she took another sip. “Although, I have just thought of a reasonable punishment for your childish behavior in throwing the snowball at me, be it by accident or not.” Something glinted in her green eyes. It was almost mischievous.

Placing her coffee suspiciously on a nearby table, Soleil bent down and scooped up snow in her gloved hands and packed it together to form a ball of snow. With a smirk and a quick movement, Soleil threw the ball of snow at Snowball; it heading straight for his chest.

Taking up his post as watchman for the not-quite stranger, Clint folds his arms across his chest and only then remembers his twelve-year-old companion. Turning to ascertain her location, it takes him only a moment to catch sight of her, over on the lawn, rolling a snowball around that was quickly getting bigger and bigger even as he was watching. A corner of his mouth wishing to twitch up in mild amusement, it was quite obvious she had simply chosen to build a snowman.

Clint'd heard him say just a few more minutes, but didn't bother to respond - other than nodding his head but the other man couldn't have seen it anyway. Hearing more than seeing the man coming 'round again, Clint unfolds his arms as he turns to greet the man. Clint noted the out stretched hand and gripped it in his own firmly but not too much so, giving a single shake before letting go. He grinned a bit and laughed at Caleb's following statement.

"Stranger things've happened." Clint said offhandedly, shrugging. While Caleb was attempting to get the little ice chunks out of his hair, Clint again glanced over to see how Irene was progressing. Apparently she wanted to make quite a big snowman; the ball she was still trying to roll around was nearly half her size. Clint blinked at this, but was brought back around to face the blond haired man as he heard a question.

“So Clint, where’s your horse at?”

Clint froze, narrowing his eyes at Caleb. He didn't seem to be as narrow-minded as most, but usually, when Clint was asked a question like that...well, let's just say that it usually didn't end well. However, as he then went on to explain just why he thought Clint might have a horse around here somewhere and that he actually liking horseback riding himself, Clint began to relax a bit and realized that Caleb was simply trying to make conversation. Shifting the majority of his weight to his good leg, Clint folded his arms over his chest once more, and, was a half-smile, replied.

"'Left her back in the barn. Didn't figure horses we be too welcome here." Clint halfheartedly explained, glancing around the estate. Lowering his head to the ground, he smiled lightly, and then lifted up his head to nod at Caleb. "But yeah, yer right - I do own a horse."

Monsieur Snowball?

Ulysses raised a brow at this new-found nickname, but inclined his head listening intently as she said she had thought of a 'reasonable punishment for such childish behavior.' Huh, quite a strict and no-nonsense one, wasn't she? For his part, Trey thought the nickname was quite hilarious. He giggled and clapped a hand over his mouth, stepping away from his Uncle, just in case. Which proved to be a quite intelligent thing to do, as a snowball quickly came flying at the man with the like nickname.

"Oof!" Was the sound that escaped the man as the ball of snow hit true and he staggered back a step. Laughing as he brushed the snow off his coat, he smiled at the woman. "Ah, you got me! ... Yes, I believe that was fair retribution." Pausing, he glanced at Trey, then bowed slightly towards Soleil and said,

"But, please. Call me Ulysses, and the young man at my side is my nephew Trey." Ulysses smiled down at the ten-year-old, then looked back to Soleil. "Pleased to make your acquaintance, despite the quite unfortunate mishaps, miss...?"
