Date – Winter 24th Year ‘06
Time – 12:36PM

Myria was lying on the grass of the Glade, caressing it. She was finally here and this would be her new home, if everything well. She took off the shawl since it wasn’t cold out and was looking at the gorgeous sky. When her hand reached a flower, she picked it and smelled it, sighing in happiness. It’s so quiet here… so peaceful… she thought to herself. She suddenly thought of her birth parents, who were either alive or dead, but she didn’t think they were dead.

Don’t worry mom and dad; I’ll be alright by myself… I wonder if you’ll be alright. She felt a bit tired, and when she tried to get up a little bit, she fell back onto the grass again, falling asleep for a bit.

  • Anthony walked at an easy pace, having just come from the village and already done his workouts for the day. The sun's presence in the past few days had livened the islands greenery considerably—only patches of snow remained in shaded recluses. What was the date, again? Almost spring yet? And then he'd be twenty-one... The last milestone of youth.

Ah, who cares. Not like I drink.

He took another bite of the sandwich he'd grabbed at a corner deli. Turkey, lattice, tomatoes; the good stuff, perfect post-training. Some fruit would've been nice, too, but prices for that kind of stuff in winter, especially on a secluded island, were too much for his wallet; he silently thanked Mary for her frugal nature, that had been partially imparted to him in their living together.

“Shangks tuchoo Murhee,” he said in a mouthful, lifting his sammich in appreciation.

Man was he feeling good today, though! No doubt he'd decipher another letter or two by the end of the week. With a dash of optimism, the man leaped atop a jutting rock and launched from it—delivering a spinning kick in the air—and landing with a heavy thud in the shaggy grass.

Directly beside the head of a young woman.

Anthony gasped, his lunch dropping. “J-Jeez—I'm sorry! Are you all right?” He was completely oblivious to whether she still slept or not.

Her ears stood up as she heard a loud thudding, which made her stand up and look around to realize a guy right near her, apologizing for what he had done. She hadn’t seen what he’d done; after all, she had been sleeping! She saw what looked like his lunch laid there on the floor. She was a bit confused, but shook it off immediately and smiled a bit.

“Oh, do not worry, I am not hurt. Thank you for the concern. But… I didn’t see what you were doing. I was asleep for a moment.” Myria rubbed her eyes so she could get a better look at the man. “My name is Myria Augustine… what’s yours?”

  • Oh, so she was sleeping.

Anthony rubbed that back of his hair, perturbed at the thought of what might have happened, if he'd added an extra kick or two to his jump, and landed a foot to the right. That is, on her face. No more leaping around. In fields, anyway. His eyes lingered on her form and light hair, before she introduced herself as Myria. A remorseful frown nearly snuck across his features. But, he'd dealt with his loss of Mary (so similar in name and appearance to this girl, here) well enough so far; this encounter wouldn't shake his coping.

“You can call me Tony,” he answered. “It's nice to meet you... though I wish it would've been under less hazardous terms. I nearly landed on you.” Pause. “Where's my—?” Sandwich? He glanced around, to no avail. Ah well.

The man crossed his arms. “Enjoying the weather with a nap?”

Myria nodded at his answer, smiling happily. She still didn’t know why she slept so suddenly. Maybe she didn’t notice that she was very tired while traveling here? She traveled around the world all the time with her adoptive parents. She wondered what they were doing now. The man introduced himself as Tony and still felt sorry that he could have hit her. Maybe she shouldn’t sleep in dangerous places anymore… but this place wasn’t dangerous. It was very beautiful.

She extended her arm so she could get a nice shake. Her eyes wandered towards him as he was looking for his sandwich but he couldn’t find it. “It’s nice to meet you Tony…”

  • He met her hand with a contemplative stare, rather than his own palm. Seriously, what's with these islanders? Nobody shakes hands back in New Hampshire. Well, maybe old guys. Anthony took her hand as he stepped forward, shaking it lightly.

    'Squash.'

Oh... no! He glanced down. Well, there went his lunch. And it had been so good, too! He sighed, stepping back to mourn the loss of his sandwich. His eyes suddenly thinned. There would be no getting through the day without a decent midday meal; especially not after the grueling training regiment he'd finished just an hour earlier.

“Well... Like I said, nice to meet you, but my stomach wont take being empty for much longer.” Anthony scratched his chin. He wasn't much for asking girls out, but... “Would you like to join me for a replacement lunch? It's the least I can do for nearly squashing your head like my sammich.”

He ended this with a half-laugh. What a stupid thing to say.

Myria heard something squish and looked down to find that Tony had just stepped on his sandwich without noticing. He looked down and sorrowfully looked at it, like he was looking at a dead person in a funeral. He then looked back at her and asked if she’d like to join him for lunch, due to losing his sandwich. Myria had never been asked out for anything, as she usually went out by herself. She didn’t have any friends at all.

Thinking she could have a friend in Tony, Myria nodded, accepting the offer. “Um… sure,” she replied, laughing a bit. She bent down and picked up her shawl. “Now, shall we go?”

  • If there was an end to Anthony's forced extroversion, it was here. He'd nodded at her agreement to go with him, glad to have met another friendly islander; but, after that, he walked with a sort of distant quiet, half not knowing what he should say, half not knowing if he should say anything at all. Myria Augustine... Germanic? Russian? Hell, I don't know. It's a nice name. This contemplation went on for some time. Every so often he'd glance at the blonde, in hopes of catching her own thoughts.
