She was thinking Mr. Right, he was thinking Right Now

Fall 25th

She had been running for a good three miles now . The sweat, the lack of breath, the aching of her limbs, it was something she could never get entirely used to. All that annoyance had been pushed aside however when the brunrtte entered the curiously floral scented forest. Right away the youth noted the shift in temperature. At first she thought it could have just been her own body heat, but it soon dawned on her that the familiar chill of the autumn air had all but disappeared as she journeyed deeper within the surrounding mass of flower filled trees. Wait what? Certainly her eyes were deceiving her for the trees rooted around her did not hold the red, gold, and orange hues of dying leaves that were associated with this season. To quite the contrary, the outstretched branches were engulfed in a dazzling array of petals, all of which left Ella rather dumbfound.

It was this perplexing splendor of nature that made her mess up her breathing and end up with a rather painful cramp. It felt like someone was jabbing her inside a point in her ribcage. Like an air bubble had been caught and it was trying to stab it’s way out. She would have to stop, break her stride, try and wait it out. Slowing down and still catching her breath, she leaned on a nearby tree trunk for support. She wore a pained look on her face as she tried to stretch her torso using various methods in an effort to lessen the discomfort.

<p>Sapphire Glade seemed to be the only pretty part of the island left. Everywhere else, the leaves on the trees had mostly withered and died, and the few trees that still had some brown leaves clinging to them looked sad and unhappy. It was like they had old, dirty, dried-up dishcloths clinging to their branches. Or, at least, that's what Vivienne was reminded of when she saw the pitiful leaves.</p>

<p>But, better than the living trees, there were flowers! That's what Vivi had come to see. And to preserve the memory of the pretty flowers, she decided to bring her sketchbook and colored pencils in order to capture the scene.</p>

<p>It had been a long time since Vivi had sketched anything, so she was a bit rusty. She decided to go with the easy, simple flowers first and then work up from there. She enjoyed looking through the flora here in Sapphire Glade. Everything was so pretty.</p>

<p>Vivienne was still looking for a place to sit down and sketch a simple flower when she noticed a woman about her age leaning against a nearby tree, panting hard. She looked like she'd been running. Vivi smiled and gave the stranger a friendly wave. "In a, a h-hurry?" she asked.</p>

Ella was using her right hand to rub the nuisance in the side of her ribcage when a delicate chirp of stutters was directed towards her. Her face was a bit contorted from the pain as she looked down at the auburn headed girl waving. Wait--she almost shook her head in disbelief--she, petite little below average height Ella had to actually look down to see this girl, now this was a shock. She had to be 5 inches or so taller than her and all at once it made the brunette just the slightest bit happy because this was indeed a first for her.

She gave a half wave back as a small grin accompanied her sarcasm “Yea, but I think I just about lost them now.” her words were choppy as she was still breathing pretty hard, after all she had just run three miles and that took more than two minutes to recover from. “It’s a good thing too, because now I have a darn cramp.”

<p>At first Vivienne wondered if this girl was <i>serious</i> about someone chasing her - but the sarcastic smile seemed to assure her that it was just a joke. Vivi was glad. Who on earth would be chasing someone in a beautiful place like this, anyway?</p>

<p>Still, the girl looked awfully tired. Vivienne wondered why she'd been running... Wouldn't people pace themselves when running for exercise? <i>Had</i> she been running from someone? Or something? Vivi was bubbling with questions to ask, but managed to still her tongue - for the moment.</p>

<p>"You n-need to, to sit?" Vivi asked, motioning to a nice-sized stone she had spied in the meantime. It only looked big enough to fit one person, but Vivi had no need to sit right now. Since she'd been traveling at her own pace, she still felt quite refreshed. Vivi didn't have any water to offer the girl, which made her feel kind of bad, since she knew that a nice drink could help recover from a tough run. Next time Vivi would have to remember to bring a bottle of water with her...</p>

(( XD that funny!! I mean I think 5'5 is like the average height for a girl, Ella just tends to over exaggerate everything. I'm 5'8 so I'm pretty tall. makes it harder to wear highheels around guys, not fun))

She was starting to catch her breath and nodded at the girls suggestion. The true strain from her exercise was slowly starting to hit her and sitting down would be the best way to rest her legs and take a breather. She sat with a thud, rather ungracefully really and looked back up at the stranger, “This was a good idea… thanks. Sometimes I just get into the zone when I run and tend to overwork myself.” a half smile lined her lips as she gave a sigh of relief, the endorphins from exercising seemed to be kicking in because she was in a particularly good mood.

Ella let her eyes wonder from the brown pools that belonged to her pint sized companion, actually being able to take in the array of flower petals surrounding them now that she was no longer in full motion. An airy tone filled her voice as she commented more to herself than anyone, “Have you noticed that these trees are in full bloom?” Surly it wasn’t just her who was imagining this wonderful mishap of nature.

<p>So she <i>was</i> just exercising? Vivi was about to ask how that went (it was tiring, obviously), but the woman spoke first.</p>

<p>The trees were in full bloom? Yes, they were, and that was one reason Vivi had come up here. She nodded emphatically at the woman's question. The trees and flowers, not to mention the temperature, all resembled Spring here. The air was always warm, and the breeze scented with a variety of tantalizing flowers. "Y, yeah, the t-trees and, and flowers are <i>always</i> n-nice here," Vivi said, stuttering as usual. "It's always S--spring! It's a...a mystery."</p>

<p>And indeed it was. Vivi had always wondered why this place was always warm and pleasant. Was there a hot spring under the rock? Was it... She couldn't think of anything else. Really, she had never heard of a place like this before, so she didn't know where to begin when guessing what made this place so warm and fertile. She had neither the knowledge nor the equipment required for a scientific analysis. </p>

<p>But perhaps it was one of those things that <i>couldn't</i> be explained. "They s-say that, that the g-goddess likes this, this area," she said, spreading her arms out to indicate the entire glade. "They say that, that is w-why it, it is always like, S-spring."</p>

<p>Vivi wasn't sure that she believed it, but it was an interesting story.</p>

((WOW your family is really tall. That's pretty funny how opposite all the heights are. I have a friend who is only 4'11 but her whole family is short, so I mean it makes sense. I also have a friend who is about your height and she wore high heels to school ever day, I mean I thought that was a little crzy, but whatever, point is luckly height doesn't matter for girls, but it sucks if you are a short guy))

“Hmmm… a mystery huh…..” Her words trailed off along with her thoughts as the little woman told of the rumor. She let her mind play around with the possibility of an eternal spring and what that meant. "Well, the goddess has good taste, this place is lovely.” She gave a drawn out sigh. Even with living outside she found that one did not get sick of natures true beauty. It was also nice to know that she had not been imaging things and that the other villagers knew this part of the island to be odd as well. If this girl had not crossed her path, she might have left this place thinking it to be a dream.

“So what’s your name anyway and what brings you here today? I’m Ella… Ella Bradley.” she announced with a smile. She was trying to be friendly because the girl seemed…. nervous? What with her stuttering and all, that’s what Ella took it as. But if she was a shy person, she wouldn’t have just starting talking to me like that…hmmm. She was looking back as the girls face, noticing little scars etched into her skin, like an old porcelain doll that was starting to crack. It was surprising to see scars on a girl who seemed so soft… so delicate. Yes this stranger was proving to be quite a mystery herself.

(( Yeah, being a short girl isn't too bad. I just get annoyed when I'm with my sister and since she's 19 and so tall, everyone automatically assumes that I must be younger. Everyone tells me I look no older than 16! XD I'm nearly 10 years older than that. I think it's hilarious. Annoying, but hilarious. My paternal grandmother was about 4'10" or 4'11", so that's probably where I got the short genes. ))

<p>Yes, "lovely" was certainly the best way to describe this place. Of course, the book-smart Vivi would try to come up with a fancier word than just "lovely," but since she could think of none at the moment, she left it at that. It's not like she brought her thesaurus everywhere... Honestly, who would?</p>

<p>Though Vivi was now used to the flora of this place, it was so different from what she saw in Texas that, at first, she'd been stunned beyond belief. How could there be a place in the world where bluebonnets and Indian paintbrushes didn't grow?! What about the verbenas? Day flowers? Spiderworts? Primroses?
</p>

<p>She'd had to learn to identify the flowers of the island: moondrop, toy flower (that one sounded funny), pink cat, mist moon, blue magic, red magic, etc. They grew from season to season. Right now, the magic flowers were in abundance.</p>

<p>“So what’s your name anyway and what brings you here today? I’m Ella… Ella Bradley.”</p>

<p>Vivi turned to look at the girl as she introduced herself. Ella? That was a pretty name! Very ladylike. Her hair, which was longer than Vivienne's, was the first thing she really noticed. Vivi was reminded of her own long auburn-brown hair, hanging loosely over her shoulders. But Ella's hair was longer. "Vivienne Ballard," she introduced herself. "B-but call, call me Vivi!"</p>

<p>She had to pause a moment to think of how to describe her outing. Actually, since they'd been talking for a few minutes, she'd nearly forgotten. But the weight of the sketchbook in her arms jarred her memory. "I c-came here to, to draw some of the f-flowers," Vivi said. "I like to, to sketch things! I haven't d-done it in a, in a while though," she added rather sadly. "Too, too busy."</p>

((That is really funny!! Everyone thinks I'm young also, but I'm tall... so it doesn't make sense... they say I have a baby face =P but hell I guess that means when we are 39 everyone we are 29 so its all good ^^))

Vivienne Ballard… it sounded so--- refine, like a name that belonged to a woman of upper crust society. who had tea time with the ladies of the neighborhood while the nanny was busy taking precious James III to his violin lessons. Vivi fit much better with this pocket sized ray of sunshine before her.

The girl was just so darn precious! It suddenly seemed to dawn on Ella why those old woman had some incessant need to grab her fleshy cheeks and coo to her as if she were a two year old. Seriously, this girl had come out to sketch pictures of the flowers, now if that didn’t spell out adorable by itself…

Then her eye twinkled with just a bit of hope, could she be the owner? Yes, Ms. Bradley had found herself lucky enough to come across the artistic workings of a rather large sketchbook that had wound up amongst the broken branches after the summer’s earthquake. She did say she hasn’t drawn in a while. “You wouldn’t happen to have lost a sketchbook by any chance? Sometime during the earthquake maybe?”

If Vivi had been able to read Ella's thoughts, she would have been pleased. Vivi, who so often imagined herself at some ancient royal court, loved her full name: Vivienne Marcelyn Ballard, a name that did indeed sound like it should belong to royalty. However, thanks to her speech defect, Vivi herself couldn't always pronounce her own name right, and therefore decided it was best to always stick with her childhood nickname.</p>

<p>Lost a sketchbook? Vivi knitted her brows together and gently swayed her small body back and forth on her feet for a moment as she thought. A sketchbook? She couldn't remember missing one. She had no clue how she would have lost it during the earthquake, anyway. She had been in her house when it happened. Slowly, she shook her head. "N, no," she said. "I, I d-don't think I, I'm missing one. But... If you, f-find who it be, belongs to, I'd like to, to know! I haven't m-met many, artists around here."</p>

<p>Then her curiosity got the best of her. "Can I s-see it?" she asked, although she knew that was rude, so she quickly added: "Just in c-case. Do you h-have it, it with you?"</p>

((haha, gosh darn all the misunderstanding! XD Seriously frustrating))

"Hmm well I guess it was worth a shot… she noted mentally as Vivi took herself out of the running of possible sketch book owner candidates. Ella then kind of did a half shrug in response to the girls request, “Umh sure…hold on…” The runner supposed this couldn’t hurt her mission of returning said sketch book to it’s no name owner. Plus, she had already allowed a random guy at the local café to have a glance at the artwork, so why not Vivi?

She rummaged through the gray knapsack that had slid down her shoulder into the crook of her arm, before finally pulling out the thick book. It would be a shock for any normal person to be carrying such a thing around with them while on their daily workout, but considering Ella was currently somewhat of a free loader she kept the few possessions she had on her person at all times.

“Well here it is,” she stated matter-of-factly, handing over the compilation of drawing to the young brunette before her. “I should warn you though--some are a little much, I mean I think it’s best to take a look at the back of the book first.” The stranger seemed very soft, pure if you will, and her motherly side felt the need to protect her from the dark themes residing in some of the earlier works.

It didn't look familiar in the least bit, and it was much larger than any sketchbook that Vivi owned. She felt a little guilty, knowing she was holding someone else's prized possession. However... Why would someone allow a precious possession to get lost? Had the artist <i>wanted</i> to get rid of it?</p>

<p>She slowly opened it, going to the back as Ella had instructed. There was an intimidating man on the page, face will drawl but the rest looked not much better than scribbles. She then started looking through it backwards - from the girl "DOG," to the face with the lines and deep, blood-like crimson accents; tot he no-lipped chubby girl with an arm outstretched; to the nude "DEAD" man with the "LOST" baby; to the...mystery image, which was hidden.</p>

As she was given back the book she simply nodded as she responded to the stranger, “Yea, I figured as much, but thanks anyway. If you see any potential owners just let me know.” It was about time she get the word out, after all it had already been a season a carrying this thing around.

She then noticed that Vivi was carrying her own, much thinner sketchbook and her eyes danced with curiosity. What would a person such as Vivi find compelling enough to preserve as artwork? Didn’t she say she was here to sketch the flowers? She questioned the girl with the smallest smile, “Could you show me one of your drawing? Your favorite perhaps… I would love to see it.” She hoped the girl wasn’t shy about this sort of thing, like those people with amazing voices who got embarrassed when people told them to sing in public. Really if Ella had any sort of talent she would be more than happy to announce it to the world.

<p>Vivi nodded when Ella asked her to keep an eye out for the owner of the sketchbook. However, Vivi hadn't met anyone lately who said that he/she liked drawing, so she couldn't think of anyone whom it might belong to. Perhaps if she stayed around town for a little while... Maybe she'd have to start taking walks there. Oh, and she'd have to bring money, too, so that she could buy anything that caught her fancy! (Provided she could afford it, of course.)</p>

<p>"Sh-sure!" Favorite picture? Hmm. Vivi paged through her own book, looking for one that she really liked. She chose to show one that she'd drawn of her own farm. It had been sketched the previous spring, when the flowers and trees had been in full bloom. The picture was just of the farm field, framed with flowers on each side. She'd drawn it at such an angle that you couldn't tell that half the field was not yet worked. The main focus was the orchard, where the trees were in full bloom with white or pink flowers. At the base of the trees you could see other crops, mostly strawberries and cucumbers, also in full bloom.</p>
