[dohtml]

[align=right]Summer 6th
11:32 am; pleasantly warm; nice breeze; a few clouds[/align]

In Laura's opinion, today was turning out to be quite perfect. After watering the crops, she had changed into a pale yellow sundress, packed up a picnic basket with a potato salad, grilled fish, and a fresh loaf of bread with honey butter, along with a half-full bottle of milk. She had also folded up that classic red-checkered picnic blanket and placed it in the basket before loading the thing into the basket of her new bicycle, tucking a kite, a large bottle of bubble soap, and a bubble wand beside it.

So after grabbing her guitar case and strapping it to her back, she pedaled off to Sapphire Glade, which was quickly becoming her favorite spot on the island. Alastar had ran beside her for a while, though he quickly grew disinterested and either lagged behind or ran ahead, only occasionally keeping up at her pace. As she pedaled along the small footpaths, she sang a song, warm breeze lifting her spirits.

"I think I'm in love with the girl next door. It's driving me crazy and I can't take it any more. I hear her playing her drums late at night; the neighbors complain but that's the kind of girl I like." Of course, Laura was not in love with any girl, but it just had a jaunty tone that seemed to fit her mood to a T. "Maybe I should call her up and buy her a round. Maybe I should move to another town. But when I hear those drums late at night I know I'm in love with a girl who lives two doors down." She drummed her fingers against her handlebars as she searched for the perfect place to set up.

There was also another reason Laura was traveling to Sapphire Glade, and that was to forage for flowers, though this notion had only came to her after she first thought of having a picnic. While the flowers wouldn't bring in much money now, she planned on getting a fishing rod with the extra bit of money, which would in turn bring in money from the fish she'd catch. She smiled as she imagined sitting on the docks on a sunny day such as this, Alastar running up and down the sandy shore while she waited for a bite. Fishing had always been a fun activity she and her grandfather did on lazy weekends.

She slowed to a stop when she reached a slight roll of a hill. It was mainly grassy, blades coming up nearly to her knees as she would find when she stepped off the bike, though there were large patches of flowers surrounding it. She smiled as she took the guitar case off her back, setting it down gently before she climbed off. Dragging the bike off the path, she put up the kickstand and opened the wicker basket, extracting the blanket. Soon, she had the small area set up, and she was sitting on the edge of the blanket with her feet in the grass. The food was covered, as she still wasn't hungry yet, and she was now blowing bubbles, kite sitting near in case the breeze picked up a little.

She blew gently, sending a flurry of bubbles spouting from the wand. The danced, surface iridescent in the warm sunshine. Laura watched them float away for a few moments before dipping the wand once more, sending out another platoon of bubbles.

[/dohtml] |

"So Jules....explain to me again why I have to carry you on my back?" Fred glanced up his cousin with a crooked smile. They had decided to spend the day together, since they hadn't really gotten to do that yet. Though it felt weird to not have Jim with him, Fred was enjoying his time with Juliet. She giggled, her arms wrapped loosely around his neck. "Because I thought you needed the exercise." Today she had chosen to wear an ratty pair of purple overalls with a sleeveless red turtleneck, and stripped arm-warmers. Her hair hung limply on Fred's shoulder as she rested her chin on his head. Blinking, a bubble suddenly popped on her nose. "Uwah!" Laughing at Juliet's noise he looked up at her, "What the hell was that??" Turning to look ahead, a bubble popped on his face as well. Scrunching up his nose, he walked further up the path, and saw where they were coming from; a woman was sitting on a blanket letting the little creatures loose on the breeze. He paused and watched her for a minute. ....she's charming. Knocking on her cousin's head, Juliet glanced at the woman too, "Fred~! Wake up, or she'll think you're some creeper!" |

[dohtml]

A gentle laugh escaped through Laura's pursed lips as she watched Alastar chase after a few of the bubbles, looking thoroughly surprised when they popped when he bit them. This caused the thin film of soap across the opening in the wand to pop and spatter a little across her dress, leaving small circles of darker yellow across the pastel background. "Aww..." she playfully moaned, trying hard not to chuckle. "I just washed this dress..." A large grin spread across her face as she remembered laundry day not too long ago. Days with new company were always enjoyable.

She dipped the wand again, gave it a small swirl, tapped it on the top to prevent large amounts of the soap from dripping across her dress, and sent another stampede of fragile bubbles out into the world. As she began to dip the bubble wand in once more, she heard someone talking, then what was possibly the tail end of a curse. She raised her eyebrows slightly before sending out another stream of bubbles. She watched as the floated out, and out of the corner of her eye she saw Alastar chasing after a few of the stray ones. Soon, the people who had spoken appeared; there was a rather tall man of nearly imposing height and clinging to his back was a young woman wearing rather odd clothing. The man looked over, and it seemed to Laura to be quite a long time, though perhaps it was only because she was under the scrutiny. She broke her gaze and looked down, a small blush rising to her cheeks while she tucked her hair nervously behind her ears. It seemed to be a bit of a habit lately.

She faintly heard the young woman talk, though she couldn't make out her words. She peeked up again, though this time she smiled and gave a small wave. "Hello there. Beautiful weather, isn't it?"

[/dohtml] |

Juliet's words, as well as the woman's snapped him out of his daze. Glancing around he nodded and replied, "Yeah, it is. Good day for bubbles apparently." He nodded towards the new barrage of bubbles that were now drifting on the wind. Pausing a moment he coughed and asked, "Would it be alright if we joined you for a minute?" Shifting, Juliet, slumped a bit so her face was mostly hidden by Fred's head; hopefully Fred would do most of the talking. Glancing to the side, she momentarily forgot about being shy; a large....creature was bounding about chasing the soapy fairies. She peered at it. '....it's either a bear....or a dog...maybe a beardog? |

[dohtml]

Laura nodded, chuckling. "It's a nice day for just about anything." She motioned to the kite and picnic basket, then looked down at her dress. She wished she had worn a bathing suit underneath of it. The beach seemed like a nice place to go. Perhaps later this afternoon... she thought, putting the wand into the bubble container. It bobbed up and down in the liquid for a few moments before sinking, only enough for the tips of her fingers to grasp if she wanted to pull it out again.

She nodded, then pushed her guitar, kite, and flip-flops over to the side and scooted over. "Of course. Just find a comfortable seat.: She patted the blanket beside her, then watched the girl curiously. She didn't look too much younger than herself, and she seemed to be taken aback by Alastar, who was now running over to Laura, tongue lolling out of his mouth and flying back as he ran. She laughed a little as he nearly ran over her, stopping just in time to lick her face as if begging for more bubbles. She shook her head and shooed him, telling him to go chase some butterflies or something. He happily acquiesced, and the young woman wiped her face off with the back of her hand. "Don't mind this mutt here. He's as harmless as a fly, really."

[/dohtml] |

Chuckling at the dog he walked over, and lowered himself so Juliet could get off. "Alright, ya potato sack, time to get off." As she slid off his back, he sat down about a foot away from the woman. He glanced over at all the items she had around her and whistled. The two of them had just come out with the clothes on their back. "You're certainly prepared for a day out, arn't ya?" Juliet quickly took her place on the opposite side of Fred, hugging her knees to her chest. Peering around him she looked at the woman; she was even prettier up close! Turning her gaze back to the field, she watched as the beardog chased after butterflies, a smile playing on her lips. Fred can talk to the lady for a bit, and I'll watch the Beast. |

She shrugged, bringing her feet up to sit cross legged, though she made sure her dress was tucked well over her knees. "Well, the bubbles were first, but when I saw that there was a slight breeze I was eager to try out my new kite. And I take the guitar with me whenever I go out for walks.Ye never know when ye'd like to play." She shrugged once more before she leaned over and dragged it back to her. She set it on her lap, even though it was a little heavy, and flipped open the case. The guitar lay inside, a thing of beauty, strings waiting to be plucked. She ran her hand lightly over the strings before closing it and laying it aside.

"Maybe I'll play later." She shrugged once more before looking over at the teen. She was watching Alastar intently. She followed her gaze and watched the dog for a few moments before realizing she hadn't introduced herself. Smiling crookedly, he took her hand and shook it firmly. "I'm Fred, and this is my cousin Juliet." releasing Laura's hand he reached around and put Juliet in a headlock. "She's kind of shy, but she'll warm up to ya quickly." "Uwahh!" Falling into the headlock she laughed but tried to pull away, glancing up at Laura. "Um...um...hi. Nice to meet you. And your beardog." Finally pulling free, she punched Fred's shoulder with a giggle; glancing at the other woman though, she went pink and sat down, slouching forward. Once again he turned attention to Alastar, kind of embarrassed by the playfullness Fred had shown. Chuckling he leaned back on his hands, glancing at the guitar. "I'm impressed by people who can play instruments; I pretty much suck at them. Do you have any favorite songs?" |

She nodded as Fred said that she'd warm up, then she picked up a piece of grass and pulled it taught between her thumbs.

She let out another chuckle as Juliet called Alastar a beardog. "That's a new one, though I suppose he does look a bit like a bear." She smiled as she blew onto the grass, causing it to emit a shrill noise. Alastar barked and ran off a little bit further, disturbed by the noise. Laura smiled, gave a small sigh, and tossed the grass off the blanket. As she blew into the grass, Fred cringed. rubbing his ear he chuckled lightly. "Uh...nice tune you got there. Pitch might need to be a bit higher though; I think only dogs from five miles away heard you." Tilting his head, he watched her for a moment then nodded. "Ya, I understand the feeling. I can't pick my favorite cookie either." He nodded, looking quite serious. Mumbling a thank you, she watched in interest as the dog ran further away from the sound. Standing up she glanced shyly at Laura, "Um...would it be alright if I play with your dog...? He wouldn't maul me will he?" |

She gave a nod of her own, trying her best to look serious, though with this weather it was near impossible. The light breeze that ruffled her coppery hair smelt delicious, carrying all the different scents of the hundreds of flowers that grew in the grove. It was a place where frowns did not exist.

She watched as Juliet stood, then nodded. "It would be fine. Nah, don't worry 'bout him. He's just a big teddy bear. A smile finally tugging at his lips, Fred let a breathy chuckle escape his lips. Glancing as the mammoth of a dog lumbered towards them, he was less worried about being attacked and more with being run over. "He's a...uh....excitable, pup, huh?" Jumping back a bit, Juliet giggled a bit nervously at the dog's sudden appearance. Slowly reaching out her hand, she rubbed his head. "Hello, Alastar." She smiled; he was much softer than she was expecting. |

Smiling at Alastar's enthusiasm to being petted, she quickly went about giving his back a good scratch. Big dog like him probably can't reach all the itchy spots. Becoming consumed with her 'mission', Juliet almost forgot that Laura and Fred were near her. Smiling, Fred watched in amusement as Juliet became absorbed in the grooming on the large beast. "Well, Jules likes him well enough." Glancing at Laura he tilted his head slightly, "So, where are you from exactly? I mean, have you always lived on the island?" |

She grinned once more as she turned her attention back to the man, shaking her head. "No, I grew up in Ireland.
