Click. Shift. Flash.</br>
</br>
The camera seemed almost alive in Jeannine's hands. The whirring and clickings that emitted from the device did nothing less but enthrall her; in fact, they made her jumpy, excited, only too happy to get along to find another picture to take. Every image was an adventure, it seemed, a detail that would be forever painted into the small chip inside the camera. What else could be more exciting? </br>
</br>
The very moment she was done with photographing the irises, she barely took a pause to look back on the picture before running toward the next are of grassy plains. The threads of green surrounding her waved around her feet in the miniscule wind as she bent down, taking in the angle of the flowers and the grass. As she adjusted the camera, the grass before the multi-colored gladioluses went hazy and the gladioluses themselves sharpened in image. She quickly snapped the image. Perfect. </br>
</br>
She leaned back in the grass and examined the picture in greater detail. The blades of grass broke across the skin of the gladiolus in perfect contrast. The particular one she had photographed had been a stark yellow stock, long and thick with not a single late blossom. The sun was angled from the upper right, and the shadow slowly grew until it absolutely smoldered on the bottom left picture. </br>
</br>
It was actually pretty beautiful.

Adelaide's Clothes (Right)
Alexander's Clothes

  • Brother and sister were walking among the weeds. Alex was having a good time being out of the village, but Alice was having a much more difficult time coping. He didn't see what the problem was. The sky was clear; the little bit of tree coverage, along with a gentle breeze kept them cool. Overall, it was your typical Summer's day, meaning a must to be outside for.

    "Why are we doing this again?" griped Adelaide. At this point, she would much rather be indoors. Hiking wasn't something either of the siblings did, but most physical activity was a no-no for Alice in general. She wouldn't have come if she knew what she was getting into, and judging by her choice of clothing, she didn't know what she was getting into. "I'm tired and my feet are killing me!"

    Alex hissed at her. "Oh, hush, you!" She glared. "We're doing this for two reasons." Alex thought himself quite funny for dragging his sister out into the middle of nowhere. He knew she wouldn't be happy, but he didn't care. Alice was used to getting her way the majority of the time, but Alex wouldn't have it.

    "Fine! And what are the 'two reasons'?" she commanded icily. Alice tripped over a branch the moment she finished her sentence. She needed to make a mental note: high-heels are a no-no in the wilderness. "Ouch! Stupid tree..." she hissed under her breath.

    "Well..." Alex needed a minute to gather his thoughts. "First, you came to visit me, so I'm giving you a tour of the island. Second, you want to be a fashion designer some day, and this is a great place to find inspiration. I love it out here." Alex looked around to see flowers, weeds, and grass alike shaking in the wind. It was a nice, peaceful place. Sapphire Glade had a serene aura to it that could relieve stress in an instant. Alex turned to look at his sister, and noticed she was texting--or, at least, trying to. "You aren't going to get any service out here, or anywhere on the island for that matter." He laughed snidely. She lifted her head slowly and menacingly towards her brother. The calm and silence was broken.

    "Gah!" she screamed. "Does this place just repel technology? Why would anyone wanna live out here--don't answer that!? I've basically lost my connection with the outside world." She was ranting. "THAT can't happen. Do you know how behind that'll put me in my..." She stopped. Alex looked at her curiously, to find his sister smiling and blushing--obviously embarrassed. When he turned to see what his sister was looking at, Alex noticed a girl in the field ahead, and stopped...

current mood; slightly confused, but curious</br>
-------------------- </br> [/align]
</br>
</br>
Jeannine leaned down closer to a blade of grass stood before her, one with a single drop of water along its upper edge. She angled her camera slightly to the left to let the sunlight be captured within the confines of the droplet, trying to still her shaking hand. </br>
</br>
Shh, Jeannine. Calm down a little bit. She didn't even know why she was shaking at all, but nevetheless, it was an immense inconvenience. She shifted so that her legs were before her, crossed, so that she could rest her elbow against her right leg. There. That was much better. She quickly snapped the picture. Now to look examine it. </br>
</br>
'You aren't going to get any service out here, or anywhere on the island for that matter.' </br>
</br>
What? Who was that? And service? Well, if it was cell phone service, whoever it was must be a little out of it to expect to get service all the way out here, on the island. </br>
</br>
'Gah! Does this place just repel technology? Why would anyone wanna live out here--don't answer that!? I've basically lost my connection with the outside world.' </br>
</br>
Well then. Whoever it was had certainly woken up on the wrong side of the bed. Obviously, she wasn't very happy - from the voice, it was pretty obvious that the latter speaker was female. Well, that wasn't really Jeannine's problem, but still, she was suddenly curious. Who was it, and what were they talking about?</br> </br>
She couldn't help herself. She stood up and glanced behind her, where the voice seemed to be coming from. She could see two people through the trees, probably siblings, from the way they'd been talking to each other. </br>
</br>
'THAT can't happen. Do you know how behind that'll put me in my...' </br>
</br>
Oh snap. The girl had seen her. Jeannine shifted her feet awkwardly. Well, this was embarassing. Caught staring at a couple of strangers! </br>
</br>
'Oh, um... hi?' she offered, waving her hand stiffly in the air. Like she said before, awkward. 'How's it going...?'

"Oh, um...hi?

Alice blinked. Twice. Realizing she was staring, she slowly made a large smile, and flashed a peace sign. "Hello-o" she spoke melodically. Her face quickly contorted itself into confusion. "Uh, yeah...who are you? And who do you think you are staring at me like that?" Adelaide stomped her left foot and crossed her arms, waiting for an answer. Her brother gave her one.

Alex glared at his sister. "Oh! Shush you!" He then turned towards the girl, blushing in embarrassment. "Sorry 'bout that. Ignore her, she can't help but be mean." He smiled, and started walking to the girl. When he stood a good three feet from her, he bowed. "I'm Alex, by the way. This is my sister, Alice--"

She cut him off, "--but you will call me Adelaide. I'm only visiting, so don't expect 'friendship' or 'kindness' or whatever hospitality you island people have shown him."

"Alice! That's enough!" Alex barked. He didn't like getting angry at his sister, but she left him no choice. Quickly, he shut his eyes and counted to ten while deep breathing. "Like I said...ignore her." He blushed, again. "Don't worry about her. We can be friends. Oh! I almost forgot, what's your name?"

</br>
'And who do you think you are staring at me like that?'</br>
</br>
Well, she seemed very... unamused by the fact that Jeannine had been staring. Oh snap. Well, that was all her fault, so she should apologize, shouldn't she? </br>
</br>
'Sorry. I just wasn't expecting anyone to be here. I was alone when I got here,' she explained. She wasn't sure if that was enough of an apology, but... well, she'd tried. If it wasn't, it wouldn't be her fault, would it? </br>
</br>
But then the man next to her cut in, telling the girl to, in nicer terms, be quiet. Well, he must be more tolerant then, right?</br>
</br>
After speaking to his sister, he turned to Jeannine, blushing. She smiled a little at that. Guys didn't generally tend to blush very easily, so he must be really sorry for the girl's behavior. That made her feel a little better. </br>
</br>
'Sorry 'bout that. Ignore her, she can't help but be mean. I'm Alex, by the way.'</br>
</br>
'Oh, that's okay. I'm the one who was staring, after all,' she answered, smile widening. She didn't feel quite so bad now. Well, actually, she wasn't even sure what she felt bad about in the first place. She just felt like the child who's hand had been caught in the cookie jar. </br>
</br>
'This is my sister, Alice--'</br>
</br>
'--but you will call me Adelaide. I'm only visiting, so don't expect 'friendship' or 'kindness' or whatever hospitality you island people have shown him.'</br>
</br>
'I just got here, actually. So I don't think I'm even in that category.' Jeannine couldn't help but be a little snippy. The girl was starting to get on her nerves a little bit, and that was hard for someone with Jeannine's temperament. Adelaide must be very irritating to be around.</br>
</br>
'Alice! That's enough! Like I said...ignore her.'</br>
</br>
'Yeah, I think that might be a good idea.' She felt like she'd be devoured if she paid any more attention to Adelaide.</br>
</br>
'Oh! I almost forgot, what's your name?'</br>
</br>
'Oh! Right.' Her name! How could she have forgotten that? 'I'm Jeannine. It's nice to meet you, Alex.' She didn't say anything to Adelaide. She'd probably just be glared at.

((OOC: Ohhhh myyy GOD! I'm soooo terribly sorry I haven't been able to get back to you! I've had a busy spring break, crazy school/drama/prom. I was sick for FOREVERR, and then I've had no internet since Wednesday...BOO! I hope you can forgive me! "/))
  • "I just got here, actually. So I don't think I'm even in that category."

    "Yeah, I think that might be a good idea."

    Adelaide gave Jeannine a look of disgust. It'd been a long time since anyone--well, other than her brother--stood up to her. "Oh my...photo girl got attitude," she mumbled to herself. It was obvious her brother heard her, as he glared, quickly, in her direction, then cleared his throat. This had two meanings: to get Alice's attention, and to, simply, clear his throat.

    "I'm Jeannine. It's nice to meet you, Alex."

    Alex stepped forward, bowed, and shook the girl's hand. "The pleasure is all mine, Jeannine." He was trying to sound sincere and sorry for his sister's attitude, but instead, his words came out in a more "alluring" manner. Poor word choice was at fault.

    Alex quickly tried to start a conversation. "So, uh...you're a photographer?" The words spilled out like a question, even though he knew the answer. Both Alex, and his sister, had a habit of adding intonation to sentences when faced with an awkward situation. This was mainly a problem of his sister. She picked up the habit hanging around the other "airheads" in the fashion industry. "Airhead" would be the word Alex would use to describe them, obviously. He had no problem with fashion (in fact, he was very fashion-forward, without the help of his sister), just the people running the industry, the models. Gorgeous they may be, but that beauty is only skin-deep, no further. Adelaide had no problem with this, but Alex didn't prefer it. "So tell me, why are you here on the island? Was there something in particular that called your camera?" Alex was running out of things to ask, when lucky, Alice came to the rescue.

    A loud, shrill shriek was released into the air. Alex turned around to see what the problem was, only noticing a grin appear on Alice's face. Alice ran up to Jeannine and flung her hands into the air. "Oh...my...GOD! I just got the most faboosh idea!" Her face radiated one of the biggest smiles. "Well, best friend," she started. This was obviously a fake, cynical ploy, but Alice hoped her charm would win Jeannine over. "You take pictures, right?! And I'm a model, RIGHT?! Well, how about you take pictures of me?!!" She screamed again, jumping up and down in excitement. "I know what you're thinking, and I agree! It's a great idea! It'll help me with my modeling career, and you with your photography career."

    Alice's brother, Alex, knew exactly what she was up to. "Um, Alice...you were just mean to Jeannine. Why would she want to--"

    Alice quickly cut her brother off, knowing what he was going to ask. "I'll pay you!" she said bluntly. "Name your price..."

</br>
Adelaide was most definitely not very... happy about the attitude Jeannine had taken up toward her. Well, that wasn't Jeannine's fault. Adelaide must be one of those irritating city airheads. Because Jeannine had grown up in a small town, she hadn't been around them very often - but still, she had a television. She could see how they acted. And this was most definitely one of those cases. </br>
'Oh my...photo girl got attitude.'</br>
</br>
Jeannine just rolled her eyes. It seemed best to just ignore her. It had worked so far, hadn't it? </br>
</br>
'So, uh...you're a photographer?' </br>
</br>
'Umm... kind of,' she said, scratching her head absentmindedly. It was a bit of a habit. 'It's more of a hobby. I've never done any photoshoots or anything like that.' She wished. that would be amazing. </br>
</br>
'So tell me, why are you here on the island? Was there something in particular that called your camera?' </br>
</br>
'Hmm, no, not really. Just... decided it was time to get out on my own.' Yeah, it had definitely been time to get out of Beaux Arts Village. After all, she was 21 now. It was a bit of a shock to her that she hadn't gotten out of there earlier, actually. 'So, what about you? What brings you to the island?' </br>
</br>
And that's when she heard it - the ear-splitting screech. She cringed at the noise, trying to resist the urge to cover her ears. Did that noise actually come from a human being? How was that even possible? </br>
</br>
'Oh...my...GOD! I just got the most faboosh idea! Well, best friend - ' </br>
</br>
Haha, best friend my hind quarters, Jeannine thought, snorting and rolling her eyes. Hmm, how long ago was it that Adelaide had insulted her? </br>
</br>
'You take pictures, right?! And I'm a model, RIGHT?! Well, how about you take pictures of me?!!' </br>
</br>
'Umm, I'm not sure that that's a very good - ' </br>
</br>
'I know what you're thinking, and I agree! It's a great idea! It'll help me with my modeling career, and you with your photography career.' </br>
</br>
'Actually, I don't think that - ' </br>
</br>
'Um, Alice...you were just mean to Jeannine. Why would she want to--'</br>
</br>
'I'll pay you! Name your price...' </br>
</br>
Jeez, could anyone get a word in around here? </br>
</br>
'You know, thanks for the offer, but I'm not sure that would be a very good idea.' </br>
</br>
She spoke before she really even knew what she was doing. After the words leaked out of her, she realized... this could jump-start her photography career. This could be it. If Adelaide was a model, then... Hmm. Hopefully it wasn't too late to fix her mistake. </br>
</br>
'Well, what I mean is, I've never taken pictures of models before,' she said, trying not to seem flustered. It was true that she hadn't, but she had taken pictures of people before. Actually, many of those were the best ones she'd ever taken. 'I've only ever taken pictures of scenery and... sometimes of people around me. I... don't know what I'd do in that kind of situation...' </br>
</br>
Hmm. This was an interesting situation. </br>

((OOC: Okayyyy, this time I SWEAR I won't be late posting again...FO' REAL. I mean it! Everything's been a culmination of writer's block, a play, and the end of the school year. Exams are next week, so everything's crazy!! I should be good now, though.))
  • Alexander sighed. What a disaster this was. He knew how Jeannine felt being new on the island. It wasn't long ago that he, too, immigrated to Obsidian Village. This empathy helped Alex to be sincerely welcoming and kind the her. Alice, on the other hand, was being less than welcoming. Not only was she singlehandedly scaring away an innocent girl, but she was trying to do business in the process...unsuccessfully.

    "You know, thanks for the offer, but I'm not sure that would be a very good idea."

    Well, this was a downer. Alice exaggerated a large frown. Unlike her brother, it was obvious she was acting. "Ohh...poopie!" she whined. Alice was certain she pulled her stunt off, but to no avail. She was about to switch to her next tactic, intimidation, when--

    "Well, what I mean is, I've never taken pictures of models before. I've only ever taken pictures of scenery and... sometimes of people around me. I... don't know what I'd do in that kind of situation..."

    Okay. Now Adelaide could calm down. In her mind Jeannine was saying: I'm not good enough to take pictures of you, even though this was obviously not the case. Regardless, the thought kept Alice calm and collected. In fact, it made her pity the girl. Not everyone could have a talent come so naturally as Adelaide. "Oh it's okay! You just let me know if you'd like to take me up on my offer!" she said in a childish, almost condescending tone.

    At this point, Alex thought it best to butt in. "Alright, sis. I think it's getting time for us to head back." He turned his sister 180 degrees in a counterclockwise motion, then gave her a nudge. "Sorry 'bout her...again. I hope we weren't too much of a bother, and I do hope you take my sister up on her offer. It'd be fun to keep in touch." With that, Alex turned and jogged back to his sister.

    Adelaide started running away from her brother in a full burst. "Bye, best friend!~" she said with a giggle. Still running, she turned back and waved, finishing with a wink and peace sign. "Cut it out, Alex." she yelled to her brother, who was now gaining distance on her.

    Alex, too, turned to wave to Jeannine. "Au revoir, Jeannine!" he yelled, then continued on towards his sister.
