Jim heard a stifled laughter and he instantly knew it was coming from Fred. Sure enough, the older male lifted the table cloth and was giving him a quizzical look as he hunched over. "Uh...Jimbo? I don't think hiding is going to help. She seems the type that can smell fear." At this, Jim visibly cringed. He looked up at Fred with pleading eyes. "Fred! She might see you talking with me. Don't do this, please!" He said in a small, pleading voice that sounded crazily adorable even to his own ears. Jim flushed visibly, disliking the fact that he seemed like such a kid in this moment. Especially towards Fred. What'll he think? Oh man, nice going Jim...

Fred chuckled lightly. "Okay, okay. Don't worry; I've hid under many a table in my time trying to avoid 'fear smelling' females. Just try not to get your tux dirty." Sitting up, he then peered back under, "And you might want to inform your date of your...situation." With a quick smile, he sat back up and glanced over at Hazel with a grin. "Never a dull moment."

"Abe, I've got a name. Use it. I wouldn't be surprised if you forgot it. How many girls do you meet on a regular basis? Let me refresh the poor memory. Myrta." Myrta then began to speak to Kent slowly, as if she were talking to someone stupid. He scoffed but grinned regardless. It was kinda cute, in an annoying motherly way. "M-Y-R-T-A." The new spelling-bee-champ-chick (as Kent now affectionately referred to her in his thoughts) cracked a grin. Apparently she found it funny as well.

"What in the world... I think she is the sugar Abe. Insane town." Myrta laughed. "You fit so perfectly." Kent blinked at this and stared at the woman across from him. He noticed that she seemed to be looking directly at his face and wouldn't move her gaze. His grin widening, Kent leaned forward so he was sitting properly in his chair. He took another sip of his beer before setting it down. "What's wrong, M-Y-R-T-A? You mesmerized by my good looks already?" Almost purring this seductively, Kent reached across the table and cupped Myrta's chin in his hand. He gazed into her eyes.

Nyida had grabbed some napkins and patted down her gown before the water could soak in anymore. As if that were possible though. Patting her gown down only seemed to smear the water a bit, irritated the blonde more. Oh well, hopefully no one will notice. I've got a red dress. Finding a trash can she threw the napkins away, and grabbed some new ones bringing them over ot the table.

"Sorry about the mess guys," she huffed, obviously still angry at the annoying squealing creature "here we go." She muttered as she cleaned up the water. "Where'd Jim run off to?" The squealing must have made him pop out of existance. Wouldn't surprise me. Making me spill water on my dress, killing my date. What's next, farting and blowing up the entire festival?! WAY TO GO! As she ranted in her head, Nyida's entire face began to get a little red.

Her temper was hard to set off, but once set off you might want to clear out of the way.

-------

Myrta laughed and shook her head at Kent. "You wish it was your looks. You keep telling yourself the image that reflects back at you is really what's there. You keep telling yourself that." Grinning of course, the woman reached out patting the white on top of his head. "Glad to see you finally got that it's M-Y-R-T-A. Seems treating you like you're back in Kindergarten worked. Skip a few too many grades?"

He may have had her memorized for a few moments, but Myrta wasn't going to let him capture her completely off guard. His eyes gazing into her's, her's gazing back, the cup of her chin and the world winning grin of the girl. "You know Abe, I'm not going home with you tonight. So if that's what you're after you can let go o fmy chin. However," a real smile fell onto her face momentarily "I'm not letting you leave before I get your first dance on that floor. Date or not, I've claimed it, and willingly or not, you're agreeing to it. Understood, partner?"

When Nyida got back, Fred noticed how her face started to get a little red. Whoa, the shrieking must have really gotten to her. Leaning forward a bit, Fred pointed under the table. "He's uh...under there. I think has something to do with Bubble Gum Cotton Candy over there," motioning towards the girl who had yelled out moments earlier.

Mary called for the dark man standing underneath a tree, looking as though he wanted to simply disappear into the background. She introduced him as Tenjukai Sajotae, but he had already known the name via the daily newspaper he received and read every morning. It had been on the front page, and he supposed the Mayor had ordered that it be big, bold, and noticeable because it had been nothing but.

Though, when Ophelia became startled, and confused, by the mention of the King, Cole turned his attention back down to her. Apparently, she was taking his comment seriously and truly believed that there was royalty here at the festival. Both his brows raised, but he remained silent for the time being. He could only wonder how in the world she had missed the news, but then he remembered the way her sister was reacting today, and quickly put two and two together. He was willing to bet she had added to the cause of Ophelia missing the news entirely.

The man, looking none too pleased, arrived. Then he proceeded to give Ophelia a thorough look over, raking his gaze from the tip of her shining golden hair to the end of her silver shoes. Cole twitched slightly, feeling somewhat uncomfortable by the way he was regarding her; Unimpressed. He wanted to ask the man, quite bluntly, if he were blind. In the very least, he could show some respect whereas he was currently showing none.

Was this truly the man deemed the title King? He hardly seemed to deserve it.

After a snappy introduction, bordering on sarcastic, and then an impatient order for Ophelia to hurry up and dance with him so he could get the deed over with, the man was gone, promptly returning to the tree he’d been under before. Cole’s eyes followed him, his frown deepening, and his eyes narrowing.

Thankfully, Ophelia did not appear to be too upset over the man’s horrible behavior. Instead, she was more focused on what was going on, since she had never been told about her position tonight at the festival. Now Cole regretted having to be the one to tell her, especially since the man who turned out to be King was far from what he had been expecting. He would have thought himself at ease with what he had met tonight but, for some reason, it only made him angry.

“You were voted to play the role of Goddess tonight,” He explained calmly, though he couldn’t banish the frown. “It is custom, I suppose, that the chosen Goddess and King start the festival off with the first dance.”

With the way he was still panting and gasping for air, Madeline wondered if he was suffering from an asthma attack. Before she could think on that topic and start panicking, the disheveled man assured her that he was, indeed, all right. At his reassurance, she felt the tenseness in her body start to melt away, and she dropped her hand and let it rest by her side once more. Still, she was somewhat intrigued, and found herself silently studying the man before her. Just who was he, anyway?

“Miss, do you… know where… if… a… Ma… Mad…”

Perhaps, he wasn’t all right after all. Why, the man was hardly making any sense at all! He appeared to give up then, for he fell silent and took the moment to straighten himself and take in a few more much needed breathes. Then he turned toward her and asked her if she was enjoying the food. The transformation was so abrupt---especially since she had just come to the conclusion that he couldn’t form sentences!---that she could only stand there and watch him dumbly.

“The food?” She questioned faintly, and even then it still took her a few moments. Slowly, she turned to glance down at the table, and at the box he had set down on it. “O-Oh!” Madeline nearly gasped, coming out of her shock and turning her gaze back to the delivery man (or whatever he was). “Oh, yes, I am, thank you. It’s all very delicious, actually, and there’s so much of a selection I couldn’t help but sample everything!”

She wasn’t exaggerating, either, since she had spent a good portion of the night by the food table and worrying herself silly. Her only alternative had been to preoccupy herself with the food. At the thought, she turned somewhat pale, and glanced around the glade. Oh merciful God, she hoped no one had noticed and decided her a pig!

There were too many people, and he didn’t understand how Chou had persuaded him to come. Forced was, perhaps, a better way to put it. The timid little maid had quickly grown a backbone when it came to dealing with him, or so sometimes, and had not relented until he’d donned the tuxedo she’d bought for him. Yasumi knew he had a choice of refusing to go. The woman was short, skinny, and could hardly forcefully pull him anywhere unless he wished to comply. Though, he did not know why he had decided to comply. That would, most likely, remain a mystery.

Uncomfortably, he messed with the tight collar of his white dress shirt, attempting to loosen both it and the tie he had on. The confinement of the suit was terrible, making him stiff and certainly putting a hinder on his reflexes. He felt as though he couldn’t move, and he’d been fighting the impulse to simply tear the thing up until it complied all the way to the glade. He refrained, not wanting to act on the animalistic instinct he knew was not supposed to be there in the first place.

Instead, he occupied his time locating every last person at the festival, studying them, and placing them in the virtual map of his brain. It was not out of mere curiosity, but out of necessity. He’d already started breaking out into a cold sweat, with all the people roaming around and him not being able to track their movements. Surprisingly, he noticed a few people he had had the misfortune of running into before. Most noticeably was the man whom he had once felt he had a connection to. Their fighting similarities were startling as was their obvious discomfort with crowds. Yasumi would have liked nothing better than to go disappear into the backdrop, or perhaps in a tree.

Unfortunately, Chou had an iron grip on his shirt sleeve and was dragging him over to the food tables. Stony faced, he allowed as much, but he kept his hard gaze boring into every single person in the party, his eyes darting back and forth as he tried to continuously reload their positions onto the map of his brain.

Damn, he was going to go crazy out here.

Cole was quite correct in his assumption; Odetta had hidden literally everything from Ophelia. From the festival to the fact that she had been voted goddess, even the tiny little detail that it had been Odetta who helped the voting along, she had left her poor sister completely in the dark. Why? Well, it would be ever the more fun if she simply didn't know. After all, had she known that she would be the center of attention at a festival or that she'd have to participate in a dance with someone she didn't even know, protests would be thrown. In fact, she wasn't even entirely sure the woman would have gone. So she'd hidden any papers, turned off the tv at the mere mention of the festival, and had accompanied the woman everywhere she went for the past month to avoid any billboards or signs.

And it had worked, miraculously. There, in the middle of the glade, stood a very confused, very scared Ophelia. She looked back and forth between the man deemed as king and a few other people, wondering exactly what it was that just happened. When Cole's answer finally came, she was hardly pleased. All of those feelings of nervousness and worry finally flooded her face completely, and now she knew what exactly her sister had been so happy about. No doubt this was planned by the evil twin all along... And now that she was here, and had been noticed no less, she couldn't escape. There was nowhere to go, after all.

She squeaked lowly, looking around frantically as if to find cameras hidden, people sneaking around; surely she was being pranked! She barely knew many people in this town, no more than six, if that, and couldn't even imagine that anyone would vote her goddess. How had she managed this, anyway? She bit her lip, pondering whether or not to actually go and dance with the man, or if hiding seemed like a better idea. He seemed quite... harsh. He had barely spoken to her, or his friend no less, and she was very afraid of what he was going to do, next. If he didn't want to dance, perhaps he would yell at her and make his distaste widely known.

Still, she knew she had a duty. As much as she didn't want to, couldn't even fathom doing so, she knew she had to dance with that man. She glanced up at Cole, her eyes showing a great amount of nervous discomfort. "When... do I have to dance with him, then? Now?"

"I'm so sorry about Tenjukai! H-He's...okay...so he's usually that mean but it's toned down a bit. I guess he's just annoyed with all the waiting. I'm sorry." Mary frowned, noticing the look of anger on Cole's face and the one of utter confusion from Ophelia. That confusion turned to realization and fear when she was told what was going on.

"When... do I have to dance with him, then? Now?" Mary blinked and nodded slightly. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure that'd be best. It might be a bad idea to make him wait longer. And I think other people might be wanting to dance too."

Glancing over her shoulder, she motioned towards Tenjukai and indicated that they were going to be dancing now. But Tenj didn't go back over to the trio. Instead he wandered over to the middle of the Glade, near where the music system was set up, and stood waiting. His arms were crossed over his chest and he was staring directly at Ophelia.

You need to be nice to her. You need to be nice to her. Tenjukai repeated this to himself again and again. Hopefully he could get this done without snapping at Ophelia.

Ulysses felt the slight heat rise to his cheeks upon Rose's words of him being excellent company, and looked down and away. He recalled their earlier meeting, and felt that not entirely true, but his thoughts were soon called away as Rose knelt in front of his nephew and held out something to him. He watched as Trey's eyes grew big, and, after glancing up to see his Uncle's approval, the boy reached out to take the shell.

"Wow, it blue! I ain't never seen a blue one before...I wonder, what makes it blue?" He asked suddenly, looking up to Rose with wide eyes, as if she may know the answer. Ulysses then turned his attention to the people moving towards the dance floor, and, glancing at Miss Noemi, wondered what she may think of dancing.

------------------

Kayla was looking over the selections of sandwiches to be had, when she noticed movement nearby and looked up to see two people, a small light brown haired woman with a pretty pink dress on apparently leading a taller, sullen looking man across the glade, right over to the food table she was currently at. It took a moment, but upon looking again, she realized the man was one she had met earlier, 'Mr. Sunshine,' as she had dubbed him.

Feeling mischievous, and because it looked like the two were having such a good time, she wanted to go over and try to talk with them. However, she waited until they reached the table, and, turning slightly from where she had been looking over the food selection, she smiled at them.

"Nice evening, isn't it?" She asked, mostly to the woman, because she had a feeling that 'Mr. Sunshine' wouldn't be doing any speaking unless provoked.

Rose smiled at Trey's question. "You know...I'm not really sure. But, I shall look into it, and inform you as soon I know." Children were such charming creatures; you didn't have to pretend around them, or make polite talk. They were just...honest. Most of the time anyways. And Rose figured Trey was one of the honest ones. Standing up, with a soft smile, she looked at Ulyssus, her smile changing back to normal. "It was nice to see you again, Mr. Sloane. Now, I wouldn't want to be the...well the fourth wheel, as it were, but I do hope you all have a good time." Bowing her head slightly, she smiled at Trey again, and began to leave. It was a bit of a disappointment to not have a person to converse with. 'Alright, let's be honest Rose; it's a large disappointment. But, you did get to meet Trey, and he was a sweet boy. So now you can finish your glass of wine and return to your room.'

  • Phoebe stayed in step with her consort, once more thankful that she had chosen the more comfortable of the heels. She held the skirt of her dress off the ground with the hand of the arm that carried the bouquet in it's crook. A small smile was spread across her lips as she looked at Trey, running ahead of them. She vaguely wondered how they must look, she arm-in-arm with Ulysses and the child running ahead of them. She stole a sidelong glance at her date before noticing that Trey had stopped; she could see why.

It seemed like a picture out of a fairy tale. Even as the pair paused, she could hardly take in the near enchanting spread that lay before her. She had to resist letting out a romantic sigh as a soft, warm breeze blew across her face, rustling the few tendrils of hair that had fallen out of her bun. It seemed like one of those fantastical plays she enjoyed watching as a love-sick teenager. Her thoughts were close to wistful when Ulysses spoke.

She laughed softly, nodding. "If only I had brought my camera..." She could only imagine how the pictures would turn out. They would be deserving of a special the special scrap book she kept her best pictures in, such as one of summer evening near a willow pond with fireflies dancing over the surface, reflected in the black glass of the water. In fact, this scene reminded her of that pond slightly, with the Chinese lanterns resembling mammoth fireflies, the turquoise drapings reminiscent of water. Her slight smile turned dreamy, though she realized quickly that she was letting things get out of hand. She shook her head slightly to clear it before composing her thoughts. It would not do to let her guard down in front of all these people.

She turned her attention back to Ulysses when he spoke her name. She shook her head once more, though this time to emphasized that she didn't mind he chatted with someone else for a few moments. "Not at all. Do what you need to do." She smiled slightly, tucking her arms in close to her torso. Brushing back hair behind her ears, she took a quick survey of the glade, memorizing important areas like the table that held the drinks and little empty nooks where she could easily escape to in order to get some alone time, if need be.

She rolled her eyes at the sound of a young feminine squeal of ecstasy. That nook was looking pretty inviting... She was drawn out of her imaginings when Ulysses introduced her to the other woman. Phoebe bowed her head, curtsying slightly. "It's a pleasure to meet you. Please, just call me Noemi."

Chou was fascinated by the food, her mouth nearly watering as she stepped up to one of the tables and gazed down at the feast set up it. Though, she would have to admit, the selection of wine on the nearby table caught her attention rather quickly. From her past experiences, she knew that wine was supposed to calm you down, and at the moment she believed that both her and Yasumi needed a glass.

She was in the process of picking up a half filled glass when a young woman turned to address her, commenting on how nice the evening was. Pausing briefly, Chou glanced up to look at the young woman, and returned a cheerful smile of her own.

“Yes, it is,” She agreed, and took a moment to glance around. “It’s so very pretty out here, and the food looks delicious!”

Chou turned to Yasumi, lifting the glass of wine up before him and waiting for him to accept it. For a few seconds, she patiently waited as Yasumi’s gaze remained scanning the area but then, finally, and reluctantly, as she persistently continued to push the glass before him, he turned to face her and accepted it.

It was then Yasumi’s gaze roamed over the woman before them, but he showed no indication of recognition. After the brief inspection, he simply turned his gaze away and took a small sip from his wine glass.

“Would you like some wine?” Chou asked the woman as she picked up a glass for herself.

"I'm sure you would've captured the scene perfectly," Ulysses said with a nod, then, turning his head to Noemi, said, "Perhaps, if you wish, sometime during the evening, we could sneak out, grab your camera and return, before they start taking anything down?" Ulysses asked, not knowing where her camera may be, nor if they would get the opportunity to at any time during the evening.

"Okay," Trey said, smiling and nodding as he carefully placed the blue sea shell into his pants pocket. Ulysses turned his attention from his nephew to the woman he had met earlier in the day, as she said it was nice to see him again.

"You, too, Miss Thomas." And then, before she had walked too far, he glanced at his nephew and had an idea, so that at least the woman wouldn't have to spend the night by herself...she didn't appear to have a date, and he remembered her saying she hadn't signed up for one.

"Trey, perhaps, if you asked nicely, Miss Thomas may agree to show you to the desserts table?" Ulysses asked, glancing from his nephew to Rose. Trey's eyes grew big again, and he nodded as he ran over to the woman.

"Can you, please?" He asked, giving her his best 'puppy dog' eyes.

------------

"Yes, the glade is always such a pleasant place to be. And I would agree, and hope it tastes just as good!" Kayla said with a small laugh, turning to look down at her plate that held a various assortment of food items, though she had mostly kept to the fruits and veggies. She looked up again in time to notice that the man had stopped looking around and was now looking at her, though apparently didn't remember her. And why should he? It had been such a sort meeting. Still, her eyes narrowed slightly upon his looking away, and she still was not inclined to think of him as anything other than a jerk.

Chou's question brought Kayla's attention back over to the girl, and Kayla thought her to be much nicer, much more hospitable than her companion. Looking over at the wine, Kayla smiled and nodded,

"Oh, yes, please - if you don't mind." Kayla hoped the woman would be kind enough to help her with a glass, as, holding the plate of food, she was too afraid of dropping it to pour herself a glass. Though she would find a way if the woman didn't, which would probably be leaving her plate on a table then walk over to get something to drink, which was what she had been considering before spotting the two.
