This had to be one of the most painful, awkward situations in her entire life. If there were any others, they were now overshadowed as the woman bit her lip and looked slightly to her left. Charlotte wondered what she had done to make her date seem so upset. She had hardly said anything at all to him, and yet he still looked almost upset. Did he expect her to sing praises on the box of chocolates? Sure, they were probably delicious, but still. It was chocolate. She wasn't going to drop to her knees, kissing his feet and telling him how thankful she was that he had even come at all.<br>
<br>
She frowned a little, crossing her arms almost indignantly, even after he let out a laugh similar to her own. Was he trying to apologize without saying "I'm sorry," directly? Charlotte sniffed, looking down. She wasn't sure whether she'd want an apology or not. While he may have been a gentleman in the fact that he brought a gift, he was still no knight in shining armor. At least he's getting the drinks for us, she thought, frown fading to a look of neutrality as she followed him to the refreshments table. She laid the chocolates on the table next to her bag before taking the cup with a small smile that looked almost as forced as his own. "Thank you very much," she murmured as she took a small sip, barely noticing what she was drinking as she looked over to the dance floor. She wondered if there was any man who could salsa on the island.<br><br>
Taking another sip, she looked back to her date who was now blushing, looking rather uncomfortable. After a few seconds, he spoke once more. Charlotte's mouth fell open slightly at the comment and she hurried to compose herself. Wait... If he was angry, why would he compliment her? Unless he was still trying to make up for things.... Or maybe he was shy? The woman's brows knitted together as she studied his face and general body language. It seemed that could be the possible answer, though she had no way of knowing now. She would just have to try to talk more, and if he was resistant, then she could always find Vanilla and go home.<br>
<br>
She cleared her throat, realizing that it had been a good thirty seconds since he said the compliment. "Umm... Thank you. You look quite nice yourself." She bit the inside of her lip, wondering what to say now. If he really was shy, then she would have to find a way to bring him out of it. She had not signed up for the blind date looking for a dull evening. "So. Mister Lo. What do you think of this whole... get-up?" She made gestured to the decorations with her right hand, a small, polite smile turning the corners of her painted lips up slightly.

If, by chance, Odetta had been informed that her date wasn't necessarily one to talk unless spoken to, she probably would have obliged. Well, actually, she had kind of figured it out herself. And similarly, she had tried to make conversation earlier, but it seemed to have failed and in turn made the man before her uncomfortable. She was, quite frankly, perplexed. She wanted to talk but talking seemed to make things awkward. Awkward seemed to happen either way, though.<BR><BR>

Just as she began confusing herself over the matter, Mu smiled shyly and finally spoke again. She nodded, smiling once more, and looked up for a second. When her eyes returned to Mu's, she tilted her head. "I'm fine. Are you okay? You still feel well, right?"

“Oh… um… I’m okay,” Mu mumbled. He wasn’t dizzy, his feet were still on the ground, and his heart hadn’t exploded. That meant everything was fine, right? Yes, that was as good as it was going to get with any girl in his presence.

Still though, his stomach was beginning to twist once more and he felt himself tingling. Odetta was concerned for him again. It made him happy. He smiled at her again. She was... nice.

Aerith couldn't believe how much of a gentleman Claude was. She'd never met anyone, to the best of her knowledge, who had treated her with such kindness and respect. It comforted her, to know that he was able to really be with her. Not like most people did. Most of them were stiff once they realized that she was blind, in both speech and emotions. She could tell. No one really knew how to act around her once they found out. </br>
</br>
But Claude, for some odd reason, was different. He treated her like she had no handicaps, but still took enough care to make sure that she wasn't hurt by negligence. It was different, and a little strange, for her. Even Lily hadn’t treated her with this much care, and she was the one who took the most care of her - to her knowledge. </br>
</br>
'I'll go get us something to drink, then. What would you like? Punch? A soft drink? I can see if I can get a couple glasses of wine if you'd like.' </br>
</br>
She thought about that for a moment. She'd never had a soft drink, or wine. But she wasn't sure she wanted to start now. She was more comfortable drinking what she always had, anyway. So she simply said, 'Some punch would we nice, thank you.' She felt a little awkward in this situation still, but that would pass at some point or another. Hopefully, anyway. </br>

"Ah, I see. ... Perhaps I shall have to stop by, to obtain more art for my nephew and I's house, so that we may not become one of those people." Ulysses commented, smiling lightly, his expression and words tinted with a slight bit of teasing. After they continued dancing around for a few more minutes, Ulysses finally gained his mind and, looking around, halted their dance.

"Ah, but it seems that we are among the few still left on the dance floor. And, seeing how we have been dancing for a while now, you must be hungry, or thirsty, at the least. Shall we divert to the food tables, Miss Rivera?" Ulysses asked, dropping his hand from her waist to rest it at his side, though he still kept a grip on her hand, and nodded over towards the food tables.

----------

Trey frowned, pulling a face as yet another firefly slipped through his grasp. He just seemed to have absolutely no knack for firefly catching, it would appear. He had tried several times now and hadn't managed to capture even one! Perhaps they had radars, and so knew when he was coming, and to avoid...

He was startled out of his thoughts by a rustling in the underbrush, and, first glancing towards the sound, soon looked up at Rose to see her with a finger to her lips. Grinning and nodding, he kept silent, eagerly looking in the area the sound had come from, to find out what it was. He only hoped that it wasn't a raccoon, because while they did look neat with their bandit masks, they were sometimes scary.

Phoebe chuckled lightly, shaking her head only once. "You can, if you'd like, but you would not have to. And I cannot promise that I'll offer you too much of a discount. A starving artist must find a way to live somehow, and I am simply fading away." She laughed quietly once more, though in all truths it did look like she was recovering, no matter how well, from slight malnutrition. Phoebe cursed those diseases that had plagued her for more than half her life, nearly taking it twice. She was thankful that they were gone, and could only imagine what would happen if they attacked once more. She thought rather offhandedly that she'd have to start exercising and consuming more 'leafy greens' if she wanted to become and remain healthy. She resisted sticking her tongue out at the thought.

She nodded, looking around as Ulysses spoke. It seemed that they really had danced most of the night away. "Yes, that sounds lovely." She smiled, not needing too much help to make it appear sweet. She felt she might be warming up to this Ulysses as the night grew, though he seemed a bit two-dimensional. At least he's not one-dimensional, she thought, saccharine grin becoming slightly forced. Once again, she was glad she had been paired up with a gentleman of sorts. If he did anything, it was playing the part by the book. "I am feeling a little parched," she added, glancing at their joined hands with her peripheral vision.

A... silence.

Oh crap, he thought, rubbing his brow anxiously. That... was damn awkward, wasn't it? (Ugh, since when did the word 'awkward' become such an accurate word to describe so many aspects of his daily life...?) Jacob bit his lower lip, scrambling to think of something else to do or say to at least try to redeem himself. After a short amount of time, though, Charlotte responded. "Umm... Thank you. You look quite nice yourself."

It was slightly assuring. He didn't feel quite the urgent need to say something else now. But, still, Jacob began to feel rather guilty. Charlotte had surely signed up hoping for a charming date and a great time - two things he was very uncertain he could provide. While he wanted to get better at this whole socializing talking to people thing, he didn't wish to ruin someone else's evening if he could help it. And the way he saw it, it would be best to get her out while they were ahead. With a slightly irritated look on his face, the man scratched behind his ear and wondered just how to express this. His thoughts were interrupted, though, as his date offered up some conversation. "So. Mister Lo. What do you think of this whole... get-up?"

His eyes briefly followed her hand as she gestured around the area. The Chinese man observed the decorations and the people, getting a bit of a deeper feel for the atmosphere. "It's... nice," he then replied. He was not overly moved by things here, but it was rather pretty. "Different from what I've seen. Uh, and you?"

Almost as soon as the words left his mouth, Jacob went back to thinking about how to explain things to Charlotte. It only seemed like the right thing to do, after all. He was aware that people tended to misunderstand or misinterpret him, so the best way to combat this was to carefully say exactly what he meant and felt. So far, he had made few attempts at this. Thus, he was considerably unsure if this would work... but then again, there was no way to know unless he tried. The man took a deep breath and began speaking, seeing it best not to overthink any of his words. "I-I'm sorry. I'm not... good at this," he said, his gaze dropping to his feet. "You can go if it's weird. I get it. Uhm... yeah. I apologize."

... B-baby steps. Baby steps.

Taking another small sip from her drink, Charlotte studied the man's face for a moment. He looked possibly irritated, though she couldn't tell from what. She had, sadly enough, never been one for figuring people out underneath their exterior. And always expecting the worse, what she assumed turned out to be wrong. Yet after so many wrong assumptions and being pleasantly proved wrong, she still never expected any more of people than what she had five years ago. So she was once more surprised when Jacob didn't bark at her to get out of his face.<br>
<br>
She nodded once slowly in agreement, fingers quietly tapping against the side of her cup. "I think it's nice as well. Quite lovely in fact, though perhaps only because turquoise is one of my favorite colors." She shrugged, then took another sip. "Then again, I think it might be a bit overdone. I know that it's the Goddess's color and all, but I almost feel like I'm drowning." Almost as soon as she spoke, she the inside of her lip, cringing slightly at her own tendency to 'talk someone's ear off'. Well, she supposed that there was nothing she could do about it now. She quickly moved her gaze to her drink, which she took a long drink of, nearly draining half of it.<br>
<br>
Jacob's large intake of breath, however, reverted her attention back to him. He was apologizing? Charlotte's eyebrows jumped up a little as she came to the conclusion that he was indeed shy. A small smile spread itself across her face, though she quickly tried to cover it by taking another drink. As she lowered the cup, she shook her head. "Oh no. I couldn't do that for two reasons. One, it would just simply be rude. Two, you're not that bad at this. At least you poured our drinks, right? I've known some guys who would've swaggered about already, flirting with other girls, and if they would've gotten thirsty, they would've said something along the lines of "Babe, go get us a couple a' beers, wouldja'?" Compared to them, you're nearly a knight in shining armor." She smiled at him, hoping it looked encouraging, when another bout of pessimism hit her.<br>
<br>
What if he's just trying to politely get you to leave? What if you offended him somehow and you didn't even notice? Her smile faltered at the thoughts and she looked down, a blush rising quickly to her cheeks and the tips of her ears.

"That's a lot more entertianing than how we met." She laughed. "Work buddies, and now partnered up at a Festival." She grinned, and shook her head lighly reaching forward to tap her foot against Jim's leg. "Some dancing partner he's turned out to be," she joked "He was really good at it before he mistook his drink." A laugh escaped at the thought, and she just shook her head. Only Jim, only him.

-------------------

Myrta's teeth had fallen down onto her bottom lip, biting at it gently while the man spoke his truth. It was just her luck to be stuck with the one person in the town who wouldn't want to actually be with his date- lovely. Were the roses forced too? Probably. A sigh of disappointed flashed out of her mouth, and she accepted it all to well. "Before I go off wandering around in the crowd, making it seem I'm socializing with friends I don't have- you might as well play the act." Her lips curved into a grin, right eyebrow raising. "Just one dance, and your cousin should be more than impressed, and you won't have to put up with his words later." She nodded at her brilliant idea, and stepped back standing straight.

It seemed almost like a fun little game, one that you had to impress someone for them to pick you- then you'd win. "Which one is your cousin?" She asked curiously, eyes wandering out for the man. It wasn't her fault she talked in silence- she just didn't like it. The quiet made her nervous, and she filled it with pointless words. She was a hard cookie to break when it came to talking about personal things- Abe hadn't even gotten that entirely. Only one man did, and he currently had disappeared on her- again.

She felt like she didn't sit too long, but it didn't matter- You weren't supposed to sit at dances. Her lips pursed together tightly thinking if the roses seemed as special now, as they had form before. She was sure he was forced to bring them, as he'd been forced into this Festival Situation. Although, after a long hard thinking she decided they were roses, he'd given them to her nonetheless and didn't throw them away once his cousin was out of site- they were worth it. Especially their gorgeous eyecapturing looks, and smelling beauty that turned her stomach from knots into butterflies.

He chuckled. "Well, Ninja, it's only as intresting as you want it to be really. I mean, it ended up with Jimbo passed out in front of us, didn't it? Speaking of...we should probably get him home. I don't think he'll be doing much more dancing tonight." Standing, he glanced between Nydia and Jim. "Well...I can carry him on my back, but you're going to have to help get him up there."

As they neared the bushes, Rose silently knelt down and peered into it. With sudden speed, two rabbits dashed out, leaping into the air to escape the strange humans. One bounded off into the darkness, but the other paused several feet away, and stared at the two with large, dark eyes. It sniffed the air, blinked, and then followed it's companion.

Rose hand her hand on her chest; she had not made a sound, but she admited that she had no expected them to come out so fast. Looking at Trey she smiled, and made a face of exaggerated exhaustion. "Oh my, they scared the living daylights out of me!"

[ooc;; short post, sorry guys]

Jacob gave a short nod of agreement at Charlotte's comment about the colours. While he was not much about stuff like that, he supposed she was right. It was a bit much but, hey. Oh well. He clasped his hands together and twiddled his thumbs a bit nervously while he waited for her response to his small confession. Each sip she took seemed more like a huge bout of chugging. When she finally did reply, though, the man was utterly relieved. The tall man gave a heavy sigh, letting his eyes fall shut. "Thanks," he said, his body relaxing.

Well, he was fully aware that Charlotte could've just been saying that, but... it was comforting to hear nonetheless. He wasn't the worst, which was enough to be thankful for. Truthfully, he had gone in fearing that would be the case. So to be proven wrong was actually a blessing.

... But... what now?

Jacob brushed hair out of his face, biting his lower lip. "Um, so..." the man's eyes flickered about for a moment before settling on Charlotte's again. Er... he had to say something now. And he had to do something for her. But what? He racked his mind for a moment before concluding that the only way to find out was to ask. "Is... there anything I, um, can do?"

------------------

He didn't care. To be honest. And so he didn't bother hiding it.

Nathaniel sat there, arms folded across his chest. His eyes were glazed over with apparent boredom now as he waited for things to roll along to their end. When Myrta began speaking again, his gaze slowly rose to meet hers. He listened, with a stony and bemused expression splashed across his face. However, as he listened to her, a scowl crept over his features. This girl, as annoying as she was becoming, had a point. As much as he wanted to deny it, he couldn't. He was doomed to go with her proposal.

Which wouldn't have been quite so bad if she wasn't smiling like an utter imbecile.

"Which one is your cousin?" the blonde girl asked. Nathaniel stared at her for a moment, racking his mind for any ways to worm his way out of this. Unfortunately for him, he soon came up with nothing and eventually succombed to the plan. The sooner I do it, the faster it's over with, he thought grudgingly as he rose to his feet. The dark-haired man scanned the crown for his brunette cousin, only to find her chatting away happily with the mayor. With a sigh, he pointed to Zephyr.

"The girl with the brown hair. With the mayor," he replied with a sigh. "Now, let's get this over with, got it?"

When she asked for punch he smiled cheerfully. "Okay then, two glasses of punch coming up." He said brightly, "Just don't run off while I'm gone. I'll be heartbroken if I come back and find out my date dumped me and went home." Of course it was simply an attempt at humor, but there was truth to it as well. To be ditched by someone he had dedicated an evening to, male or female, friendly outing or romantic escape, would be a pretty powerful blow to Claude. He tried is best to be a kind and loyal friend and to have someone run off on him would imply that he had failed.<br>
<br>
He stepped away from the table he was sharing with Aerith and weaved his way through the crowd to the refreshment table, pouring two glasses of punch. before returning to the table Aerith was sitting at. he set his own cup down on his half of the table and placed his date's just at the tip of her fingers. "Here you are, madam." Claude stated, his tone playfully over-formal, "One glass of punch. If there's anything else you desire, please don't hesitate to ring."<br>
<br>
The young Spanish man took his and rested his chin on a platform made from his laced fingers. "I hope you don't mind if I take the liberty of kickstarting the conversation with a question." Claude began, "I'd be lying if I said that you didn't fascinate me, Ms. Aerith. Can you tell me about yourself? I mean, what sorts of hobbies do you have? What is it you do for fun?"
