It was kind of extremely weird. His nerves were still calming, never having come to a complete settle-down; he felt as if he was treading thin ice, a tightrope even. Rickety and unstable. One wrong step and he'd be thrown back into chaos.

But now that she'd stopped crying, and was smiling, he was much closer to feeling at ease. He'd even stopped shaking so badly! Well, mostly. And as the petite girl took his hand to joyously shake, he felt it infect him, from his fingers to his face where his smile broadened, radiating all sorts of warmth.

The size of her hand in his reminded him of his earlier confusion over her age, too - looking at her now, he saw a doll, a fragile thing with a face of porcelain, something that would have caused him a great worry. But now that she wasn't crying and he wasn't completely panicking, Blaise came to a startling conclusion: she had to be the most adorable thing he'd ever seen!

And now that there was room for his head to process such a thing, he was delighted. Positively delighted. He suddenly wished he'd brought more than just chocolates; flowers, jewels, a teddy bear. A kitten. Something about her just made the poor man want to shower her with expensive and pointless gifts - perhaps it was a good thing, then, that she interrupted and effectively distracted him, or he might have caved and bolted to the nearest boutique. Something neither his body nor his wallet could handle at the moment.

He blinked, and within a few seconds of her ramble (though miniscule compared to his) his face flushed with a bit of colour, embarassed and flattered all at once. Despite the 'silly' part. But maybe that went straight over his head.

"Ah, th-thank you. And you're welcome," Blaise murmured, retracting his hand and scratching his neck bashfully. The awkward gap of noise that followed lasted a few seconds as he wondered what to do next; but then, of course, eyes catching the crowds out on the floor - a bit dispersed by now - he remembered it was a festival. With music.

"Would you like to dance?"

From this point on, he decided he would be The Perfect Date. Which could probably only end one way - badly - but even with part of his apology apparently accepted and a happier girl, Blaise still felt he had to make his lateness up to her yet. And, well, of course, she was just so gosh-darned cute...

Ah, Nyida was it? Min Hee smiled to herself. She was the first other female she had met since arriving on the island, and this pleased her. Boys were more fun of course, but any type of new acquaintance was much appreciated. After all, she needed to build a following. She couldn’t be too picky. Besides, she needed at least a few girls to talk to.

“Did you sign up for a date?” Nyida asked. Min Hee nodded quickly, bubblegum curls bobbing as she did. When she had turned to leave, the teen bounced along after her. “Oh yes,” she giggled. Then, with a sigh, her face seemed to transform- Her color-contacted eyes softened and drooped and her bottom lip protruded into a pout that could have broken the heart of the most cold-hearted beast. She brought a hand to her mouth and spoke, “But my date hasn’t showed up yet and I’m so lonely~”

Come on! Take the bait!

“I’m so sorry for messing up your dance, but Jim’s the only person my age I know since I just moved here recently, and I got super bored by myself~”

She watched Nyida expectantly, waiting to see how she would be received, but continued on. “You two seemed to be getting along nicely~ Do you like him? Well, he is kind of cute.” At this, Min Hee giggled like a schoolgirl sharing secrets, small fingers covering her mouth in an adorable manner.

The woman’s dress and intimidating air had caught Mu off guard, but once she spoke, he found himself beginning to relax. She seemed nice enough… And the smile she gave him had a certain sweetness to it that captured him. He returned a sheepish smile of his own until the realization hit.

Odetta Bano. She said her name was Odetta Bano.

At this, the young man immediately returned to his previous flustered state, floundering for words as he tried to share the fact that she was his date but finding that he could not.

“I’m… Um… You… We’re… The name…” He snapped his mouth shut, unable to utter a coherent sentence. Explaining things was really so troublesome. Hand rubbing the back of his neck, he dared to take his gaze off the ground and look her in the eyes. She was beautiful. He liked her. Maybe that would be enough? Yes, the world really was a lot more simple without all those confusing extra words.

“Er… Never mind,” he finally said. Then, remembering her invitation, quickly added, “Um… I’ll dance.” In his awkwardness, he had forgotten to give his own name. Ah, details, details.

Odetta felt a bit smug when Mu seemed to relax, to be honest. She could read his body language quite easily, and it was almost like he just took one big ole sigh of relief. Of course, she had probably come off quite... forceful at first, but that was her nature after all. If she wanted to truly trick this man, make him think she was anything but herself, her acting skills would have to triple ten fold. Still, she had watched her sister many times, observed her innocent and prudish nature quite a bit, so maybe she could pull it off? Perhaps? Hopefully?

It didn't take long for a confident smile to appear on the blond's face, though it quickly retreated at the sound of a stuttering, nervous man. What had she done now? She had only introduced herself, in a polite way no less, and he was flabbergasted again? Was he on some kind of infinite loop? Was he doomed to basically do the same thing over and over again the entire night? Well, that wouldn't do...although it may have its advantages. Hmm, yes... Maybe so.

She didn't get a chance to test these advantages, though, because he spoke up again in a semi-normal way. She nodded at his acceptance of her dance offer and smiled, grabbing his hand and gently leading him to the dance floor. Names, smames; she really didn't care. There was only one thing on her mind at that time, and it certainly had nothing to do with what this boys name was. Poor Mu.

Jim was smiling goofily, and a light red colour was covering his face. It wasn't because he was embarrassed either. He hiccuped a tad, glancing down at the empty glass clutched in his hand. He grinned. That was...really weird... Putting the cup down, Jim stood up and stumbled. He fell over his own two feet and hit the grass. But, instead of feeling any pain, he just laughed at himself. He was having fun for some reason! His eyes scanned the area until they landed on Fredrick and his date.

They're having fun! Jim felt himself a bit jealous. He wanted to dance too but couldn't because of that stupid Min. He looked around until he spotted Nyida and Min Hee Ko chatting a few tables away. He glared hatefully at the aqua haired girl. He would've stormed over and yelled at her, but he didn't feel like wasting his time. Instead, Jim stood up and waved over to Fredrick. "Hey, Fred! Come here a second, would you?!" He hoped that the older male would; he had something he wanted to talk to him about. Hiccuping again, Jim smiled goofily while plopping back down. The root beer here was odd.

How bad was this? He was late. He was never late! And he was horribly late. The crowd was already mostly seperated into pairs. His date was probably with one of them, though the thought didn't hurt him too much. It was alright if this setup ended like this because he was the one who didn't show up until the last minute. Not only this, but he was in no tuxedo, either. He was too cold. He's have an attack if he wore anything but his thick jackets, so wearing a tuxedo would be pointless, anyway. This was the worst idea ever. How'd he end up signing up for this? He hardly remembered even doing such a thing, which was bad because his memory was photographic. Maybe he'd been half asleep? Or even sleep walking? The possibilities were endless, but the most likely explaination for this all would be he wasn't even there mentally at the moment. He'd probably checked out on other thoughts.

Now, to find his date. He most certainly couldn't call her name considering he was, well, mute. So... He'd just have to look for the description she'd given him. He could do that, couldn't he? But he'd look out of place walking around. So, instead, he remained well toward the outer rings of the crowds, moving here and there slowly while his light blue eyes scanned the crowds. Well, she would be here somewhere, wouldn't she?

"Really? Is he on the island?" Trey asked, curious to meet this 'Daniel,' Miss Rose's younger brother. His eyes brightened slightly as he asked, and his smile returned; but when the question was then directed to him, he blinked and looked away a moment. Putting his cookie down, he nodded, and returned his gaze to Miss Rose.

"Yeah, I've got a lil' sister, and a lil' brother. I really liked playing with my sister, but my brother...he was still a baby when we left." Trey said, pulling a face, but then wondered how 'the baby' and Shayla would be getting along - wondering, despite the fact they hadn't been gone long at all yet, if the younger sibling had grown up and turned into a better playmate than he had been. He blinked, and shook that thought off, but still wondered how his two younger siblings were doing.

--------

Kayla was glad when the woman's face finally brightened, and averted her attention to the plate of food set before her. She finished off a few of the veggies, taking a sip of wine to wash them down with, and set down her wine glass just in time to hear Chou's reply.

“O-Oh, I’m liking it very well. I think it may be just the kind of place I was looking for, actually, since I had ran a….”

It was Kayla's simple assumption that she was going to say she had previously run some sort of store, some where else, before moving to the island. She would never have dreamed the woman sitting across from her was actually a 'run-away.' Not that she would have cared much, anyway, though. She wondered that perhaps, as was the case with their ranch back in Mississippi, she had run some sort of shop somewhere else that hadn't done so good, but was proving more successful here. Kayla smiled slightly as she continued watching Chou, thinking it was embarrassment of having to close down a previous shop that caused her to stop speaking. She blinked and her smile disappeared as Chou was now frowning, and with a small groan, bent over forward until her forehead came into contact with the tabletop.

"Chou? Is something wrong?" Kayla asked, genuinely concerned. However, her next thought was that Chou had gotten into the wine a little too much. Or else she wasn't used to staying up this late - it had to be one of the two, surely.

Ulysses watched, with eyebrows raised, as his date hiked up one side of her skirt to her knees, as she was considering what type to dancing they should do. Once she dropped it, Ulysses cleared his throat and shook his head, agreeing with her on that idea.

"I agree, and unless you want to cut up that wonderful skirt of yours, I would also suggest a waltz." He said, smiling a little, though his face looked somewhat flushed. Blinking, he turned his head to her again, tilting it to the side as he heard her suggestion.

"Viennese waltz? I'm afraid to say I don't know that one...perhaps you would be kind enough to show me?" He inquired, hoping she wouldn't think him less for it. Not that she thought any of him currently, he quickly amended.

  • Phoebe nodded slightly, a the hint of a frown a shadow on her face. "Well, perhaps we should do a different dance then. The Viennese Waltz is somewhat complicated, and if you've never tried it before, then we wouldn't want to make you look awkward." She flashed a small smile, forcing the look of encouragement. "I wouldn't really mind teaching it to you, but I don't exactly like to lead in a dance." Really, Phoebe could go either way, but the (normally) shy Noemi would never be caught in a man's position.

"Perhaps a simpler waltz? Just the basic isn't too hard if you've never tried it before." She flashed another small smile and one hand on his shoulder, the other in his hand, holding it up slightly. She stepped in close, the distance between them merely a hand's breadth. Keeping up the appearance of the easily flustered Spaniard, she looked down, forcing a blush to rise in her cheeks.

Keeping her eyes on her feet, she asked quietly, "Do you know how to do the basic waltz?"

“Would you like to dance?”

It was what she had been wanting to hear all night. It was what she had dreamed about since the day she’d penned down her name on the list, signing up for a blind date partner. In her fantasies, over and over again, she had pictured this moment, anticipated it, yearned desperately for it. In all her life, she had never once danced with another man. And to her, it was the beginning of everything. The perfect dance, with the perfect partner, and a perfect date. Would tonight end with a blossoming new love? Would she walk away knowing that she’d met her true soul mate? The one she was supposed to spend forever with?

Yet, to be completely truthfully, she was rather surprised when she finally heard the question. All those thoughts and anticipations had drained away over these past few minutes with him, and now she found herself constantly being surprised. Although, pleasantly. Very pleasantly, she thought with a bright pink blush staining her cheeks.

“I’d love to,” she told him shyly, slowly holding out her hand for him to take.

Meanwhile, behind the thinning crowd of couples dancing, over yonder by the Goddess statue set up on her alter, Randolf Armstrong still lurked, silently brooding as his narrow eyes kept watch on the man and his daughter. Though, his patience soon gave way, and as sneakily as possible, he stood. Grabbing the statue from its pedastal, he cuddled it in his arms and effortlessly joined all the young couples in their dancing. Twirling around amongst them, dancing with the stone statue, he turned his head every turn and twist, his flaming eyes burning a hole into Blaise’s back.

His disguise was flawless, as he believed himself completely masked in the crowd of dancers. Too bad he forgot his sheer mass, and the fact that he was more than a head higher than any other person in the room. And three times the bulk.

Needless to say, Madeline immediately caught sight of him, and let out a small, horrified gasp. Before her father could spot her spying him, she quickly tore her gaze away and looked around the area in near panic. No! her mind shouted in desperate denial. No! Not when everything had turned out so perfectly! Not when she was going to be given her first dance, fall in love, get married, and live happily ever after with her true Prince! This wasn’t happening!

She wouldn’t let it happen, she decided with a fierce surge of newfound determination. Instead of keeping her hand still for Blaise to accept, and lead her out onto the dance floor where it would only be a matter of seconds before her father came down on them like a rampaging mad bull, she shot out and grabbed onto his arm, immediately pulling him with her as she quickly retreated toward the woods.

“Please, please!” She told Blaise as she glanced back at him, her voice small and tight. “Come with me! We must hide before he sees us!”

"I do know the basic waltz." Ulysses assured his dance partner, smiling slightly. He continued to hold her hand, carefully and gently placing his other hand on her waist. Looking down at her, his eyes deepened as he took in her blush. He thought the apparent Spaniard looked quite cute when she blushed. Looking over her shoulder as he started the first steps of the dance, now that they were finally in position and out on the dance floor, he looked for Trey to find him safely eating a table. Cookies, sugar cookies, too, were of course the child's choice.

"Perhaps, in the future if we were to meet again, you could teach me the Viennese Waltz?" He said, as he easily fell in-step with the music, dancing a basic waltz. "I feel as though I let you down, not knowing a more interesting dance."

She was a sponge. Soaking it all in, word for word, staring at him intently as she tried, in her head, to sort out the details. He was, or at least had been, a miner - so she hadn't been all that far off with her 'excavater' theory, same thing really. It didn't seem to gain much momentum, though, until the very end, with the bit about the star gems linking past and present together, and the infamous line that foreshadowed all amazing plot twists --

I had no idea what I was getting into.

Oh, the adrenaline! It was like her heart suddenly palpitated to life, mind churning with the possibilities, possibilities, the possibilities! But before she could nod eagerly and wait for him to quench her curiousity, she was cruelly spun off, more luxuriously and lavishly than usual. He was taking his sweet time, teasing her with a cliffhanger like this - that wouldn't do! Chimera snapped back into place, very ungracefully, very tactlessly - but oh, it didn't matter. She needed to hear this.

"No!" She protested violently, hitting him (maybe harder than she intended) on the arm, "Finish! What happened!"

That flame in her eyes sparked with laughter - and she probably would have said something snarky to fuel him on, but was distracted by someone else's voice calling his name. "Fred!" Turning her head, she saw that boy - Jim? - stumbling around and hiccuping, slurring a cry to his friend, and watched, perplexed, as he plopped down on the ground. Well now, that didn't seem right...

"Oh, la," Mildly intrigued and mildly concerned, she paused in her movements and loosened her grip on her dance partner - unconsciously, she'd gotten quite close to him in pursuit of what she was still convinced was a fantastic tale - eyes fixed on the potentially intoxicated teen. "It looks like you're needed elsewhere, Mr. Hero."

Well, it was a party after all. Someone had to end the night drunk and clumsy. Chimera was relieved, now, that it hadn't been her. Things like that rarely ended well.

Blaise was beaming. He would just send up a silent prayer to the Goddess that everything from now on would be smooth sailing - no more slip ups, no more humiliations. It wasn't much to ask, was it? He sealed his internal plea with a smile as he outstretched his hand to take hers and guide her on to the dancefloor, hopefully end off the chaotic night with warmth and pleasantness -

Only that's when things seemed to get a little weird. At first he mistook it for impatience and eagerness (well he'd kept her waiting for so long, who could blame her?), but it quickly became clear she was trying to pull him away from the dancefloor. Away from the people. And that officially sent his brow into a confused little huddle.

But it wasn't in Blaise's nature to figure things out quickly. Never had been.

Eventually catching on that he should probably do as she said, just on the note of unexpected urgency in her voice, Blaise's legs became mobile and he stumbled after her pull, dumb and useless as anything.

"Who?" He blurted in confusion, an owl thrown into an ocean city. Despite his puzzlement (and typically growing panic), he followed after her without hesitation, with the sneak and stealth of your everyday boulder.

Well, maybe prayers took a while to actually reach the heavens. Maybe there was a four to six minute waiting period before things could really normalize again. Hopefully just that.

Fred laughed cheerfully as she hit him; she was almost cute! Of course he expected a bruise later, but what was one more?

Lifting his gaze when he heard his name, Fred saw Jim, and he looked...drunk? 'He's not old enough to be drinking...' "It looks like you're needed elsewhere, Mr. Hero." Glancing down at Hazel, he nodded mildly. "Hm...would you like to accompany me or should I spin you over to another gentlemen with other tales to weave?" Smirking softly, and without waiting for an answer, he had her by the hand and was heading towards Jim; he still wasn't sure about leaving her alone. Wasn't he her unofficial bodyguard or something? As he walked towards the teen who was seated on the ground, he called out, "What is it Jimbo? And why are you talking so weird?"

"What is it Jimbo? And why are you talking so weird?" At this, Jim grinned stupidly and let out a slurred laughter. "I'm not talking funny, your hearing's off!" At this, he snickered as if he'd just told the best joke in the world. And why was Fredrick spinning. When'd he get a twin? Yes, Jim was beginning to get weirder thanks to the alcohol he had accidentally ingested and was now seeing doubles of everything. Odd! Stumbling onto his feet, the drunken teen made his way over to Fredrick.

Tripping over his own two feet, he fell against the older male's chest and let out another slew of giggles. His face was still flushed and he glanced up at Fredrick, his eyes shimmering oddly. Leaning forward, he whispered into his good friend's ear. "Hey, hey, wanna dance, Fredinna?" Hiccuping as he pulled away, Jim smiled goofily. "But...you gotta let me have another one of those drinks. Those're awesome!"

Rose smiled softly, shaking her head. "No, my Daniel is not here. He's back home with our parents." Listening as he spoke of his own siblings, she heard in his voice how much he missed them, especially his sister. "Perhaps you could write them a letter, to see how they're doing; that's what I do with Daniel. I'm sure they would love to hear from their big brother." She reached out and patted his hand softly. "Perhaps if I can convince my brother to visit you two could meet. I think you would like him; he's into pirates and such things." Pointing at his cookies she chuckled lightly, "And, like any good boy, he loves cookies. So I think you would get along just fine."
