Spring 19th 10:07 AM This was a little slice of heaven. It was by sheer accident that Entegony found herself here on this bright, and quiet morning. Usually spring mornings were chilly and wet with morning dew, but not here. For one reason or another, this place was balmy-the perfect temperature. Flowers bloomed everywhere and yet her allergies were not affected. While Entegony could never be accused of being the brightest girl around, she certainly wasn't dumb enough to kick such a perfect opportunity such as this in the mouth. With her supply run complete and a brand new book in her back pocket, the English woman perched herself against a rather large oak tree with helped make the perimeter of this delightful clearing, and began what was surely to be a day of doing absolutely nothing. Just like every other day in the girl's book. Propping her heavy duffle against the trunk of the tree for amble back support, the woman then pulled out her used paper back novel. "The Great Gastby" she heard it was a classic, but never knew much about it. The book keeper who handed it to her was singing it's praises, though. Surely it had to be some kind of masterpiece. Thumbing the worn and tattered cover, the girl finally opening the book, licking her fingers to help her flip past the title page and table of contents. That was an hour ago. After three or four painstaking chapters and a slice of toast, Entegony had deduced that the book keeper was some kind of idiot. The woman scrunched her nose at the book after each and every word she forced herself to read like it was leaving a bad taste in her mouth. Finally, after flipping the page one more time, the girl couldn't take it anymore. Slouching down and using her bag as a headrest now, Entegony set the open book on her face since she was void of any sunglasses and just laid there. She was bored, but not bored enough to read this crap. Naturally wasn't going to move either, though. No, no, no was far too comfortable for that. Instead the woman began to tap her feet and hum, too lazy to go, but too bored to stay. (Sorry it took me a while to post this. D: My computer spazzed last night.) |

After eating breakfast with the family, Kayla had decided to get out of the house for a bit and go on a walk. It would be a week tomorrow since Wyatt's injury, and her brother was already moaning about being stuck in bed. Her mother and herself, along with Tenjukai, did what they could to keep him there, so he wouldn't be further injuring himself quite so soon. She had a feeling that this would not last, though; and she was tired of dealing with her brother's stubborn and unkind attitude, and so set out on her own this morning. Not that she didn't love her brother, but in such cases as this, he was making himself quite difficult to be around. So today, she was content to leave him in the care of the others. Looking around, she noticed her feet had taken her to the forest, and she then realized the glade wasn't very far from her current position. Smiling lightly to herself, she headed off in that direction. It wasn't long before she entered the glade, and the first thing she noticed was a young woman off to her left, lying beneath a large oak tree...with a book covering her face. She was used to seeing her brother lazing about with his hat covering his face when he was napping, but a book? With an eyebrow raised, curiosity got the better of her, and she walked over quietly to the other woman. Now standing over her, she was able to read the title, "The Great Gastby." Though she had never read it herself, from what she had heard of the book, she wondered if that was what had put this young woman to apparent sleep. Grinning, Kayla backed up a step, and decided to make her presence known. "Good book, huh?" Kayla asked, sarcasm evident in her voice, as she waited to see what the woman's reaction might be. ((OOC: That's all right, but I'm sorry to hear about your computer's spazzing out! xP I hope it's behaving better now?)) |

Entegony was too preoccupied with not being occupied to hear Kayla's approach. So when she initially spoke, Entegony nearly jumped off of her grassy seat in surprise. Even more shocking was the fact that she book didn't fall off her face when she flinched so violently. It looked like she was one step short of shrieking like a small frightened child. Fortunately enough though, she managed to calm down, a hand instinctively patting her heart as if to slow down. If she was someone with a shorter temper, she probably would have yelled at said person for scaring the crap out of her. Instead though, the woman cautiously lifted the book from her face peeking out to see the offender. From what she could see, it was a young woman- but someone who seemed to be in her twenties. Oh, thank God-this girl looked as though she was Entegony's age. Every single person she had met so far were teenagers- far younger than she- almost to the point that it was hard to relate to them. She was starting to wonder if this place was infested with kids. So now that the opportunity was facing her to talk to someone who was actually past the age of twenty, she seized it. Snapping up and taking the book off her face, Entegony shut the pages and stared at the title. "Oh, it's great. Wonderful. You want it?" She said with an equal hint of sarcasm in her voice as she held the book out to the girl. (Thaaank you. XD And yes, it's working much better than it was. <3 So I can actually post now, hooray!) |

Kayla raised a hand up to cover her mouth, in an effort to try and contain her amusement at the startle she had given the poor woman - it wouldn't be polite to laugh, now, would it? She did also find it funny that, even after jumping up, the book somehow stayed put, sitting where it was over the woman's face. It was only when the other woman, now sitting, pulled the book down did she actually see the woman's face. She looked to be around the age of Kayla herself, and seemed to have light brown eyes and brown hair. Kayla tilted her head and looked down at the book being offered, and, with a grin, she shook her head. Leaning back, she folded her hands behind her back, and, looking up at the woman again, said, "I get a feeling that you're trying to give it away, miss." Her she paused, and then, with a teasing smile, continued, "If you, though having just attested to its great and wonderfulness, are trying to hand it over so quickly to the first person you see, for what reason should I now be showing interest in..."The Great Gastby"?" "Though I've never read it, I've heard it wasn't all that good. I'm sorry to say it, but I believe you will have to be stuck with it for now." Kayla said, sitting down on the grass where she had previously been standing. ((OOC: Ehh, sorry for the...weird...reply. x-X; *searches for muse*)) |

Entegony smirked when the woman shook her head and gave an apt rejection. Her deductions made sense, enough that Entegony gave a nod in approval. Lowering the book for a moment, the woman relaxed for a second, setting her back against the tree. Mouth fixing itself to one side of her face as she thought, she finally raised the book again in a mock offering. "So you're saying I should have had you pay for it?" She waved the literary 'masterpiece' in the air, "Fifteen bucks." Her english accent clung tightly to every word she every said. She listened to the young woman now, brown eyes on her at all times and smile never fading. Finally with huff and a short laugh, Entegony tossed the book to her feet, sighing. "Damn. I get suckered into buying the worst things." She let the girl sit down with no protest, apparently having absolutely no problem with strangers. "One time, last year, this guy sold me this tiki doll. Said it was supposed to be good luck." She started, pantomiming like she was squeezing the doll in her hands. "So I keep it just dangling on my belt, because well, I just thought it looked cool." Resting her head against the bark of the tree, Entegony closed her eyes so she could imagine the event better. "For two weeks I had the worst of luck. Absolutely terrible- I mean, I got in a accident and dislocated my shoulder even. I go into a shop just openly complaining about it, when the shop keeper points to my doll and says, 'well that's why' " She lowered her voice to mimic the shop keeper, continuing her rant. "So I had to ask, a he said the thing was hexed or something like that. Can you believe that? hexed!" She sighed sitting up and turning around to unzip her duffle, scavenging for a water bottle. "The little bugger sold off his hexed doll to me." She paused, looking back to the woman. "Sorry to talk your ear off." Grabbing hold of her bottle, she untwisted the cap and took a sip. Swallowing, she added. "I'm a chatterbox, I'm afraid." (Nooo problem! I liked it~<3) |

"You bought it?" Kayla asked, amusement clearly in her voice, as she pointed to the book. Then she shrugged her shoulders, and folded her hands neatly in her lap as she listened to the woman's story of the 'hexed tiki doll.' Kayla's eyes widened when the woman turned and started to rummage around in his duffel bag. She was imagining that the woman was soon going to produce said doll, and tell her to take the book, or else she would curse her by means of the doll...or something like that. Kayla breathed a quiet sigh of relief when the woman looked back at her, water bottle in her hand. No doll to be seen. She relaxed a little, and smiling again, she shook her head. "No, I enjoy talking. Haven't had much of anything interesting to discuss nor anyone to discuss it with at all this past week. So, what happened to the doll?" Kayla paused, and realized they had, neither of them, spoke their names yet. "Oh, I'm Kayla, by the way." She said, extending her hand. |

Teasing the lip of the water bottle with her teeth, Entegony looked up to the sky and pondered what to say in response to the young woman's question. Closing her mouth around the lid, she downed a quick sip before setting the bottle down on her lap, using her free hand to wipe away a trickle of water that dared to slip down her chin. Suddenly Entegony stopped, eyes slowly turning towards Kayla, a large smile on her face. "I sold it off as a good luck charm." She paused for a moment, before laughing and twisting the cap back on the bottle. "Honestly though, when the man told me my doll was cursed, I just ignored him. Believing a good luck charm is one thing, but a curse?" Her mouth fixed to one side as she shrugged. "After getting fired from my job though, I decided to go back to the guy and ask him what to do with it." She shifted around in the grass so she was facing Kayla now, leaning forward like she was about to tell a secret. "And get this- he said for twenty dollars he'd take it off my hands for me. Can you believe it? He was making me pay to 'lift my curse' or some rubbish like that." Leaning back again, she sighed and absently stared at the grass. "If I was sober I probably wouldn't have done it." she finished, mumbling more to herself than to the woman in front of her. Her eyes trailed over to the extended hand the girl offered to her, breaking her trance. Graciously accepting the handshake, the woman smiled before adding "Entegony Abendroth, it's a pleasure." Afterwards she turned back to her duffle back, stuffing the water back inside the disorganized mess. Without even looking up to her, she asked, "You a local of these parts?" |

"Figures, they'll try to make money off of anything and everything." Kayla said gravely, and this was one reason she tried to avoid things like that. Sober? Ah, that explains a lot... Kayla thought, smirking as she looked off, across and to the other side of the glade. But then, as Entegony introduced herself, Kayla looked back and smiled, returning the handshake and saying, "Likewise," And then, withdrawing her hand, she watched as the other woman as she began stuffing her water bottle into her duffel. And then she asked if Kayla was from around these parts. "Well, not exactly here," Kayla began slowly, scratching her chin as she looked up and away, and then dropped her hand and returned her gaze to Entegony, and continued. "My family has a ranch over on Lazuli Hill, and we've been here for a few years." "What about you, Miss Entegony?" Kayla asked, wondering if the woman was new to the area, and if so, where she might be staying currently. She knew some stayed at the Inn, but some also went ahead to get shacks wherever, to live on their own, and it didn't cost money. |

"They're terrible, just terrible. " Entegony quickly responded with a laugh, enjoying the light hearted nature of this conversation. Honestly, she should have traveled with a companion, if not for someone with a keener sense of direction, then to just have a dialogue every now and again. Getting lost in the woods for days hardly bothered the girl until she realized how she was socially deprived. After a while she would start talking to air just to keep her sanity intact. Well, whatever sanity was left. "Of course, you'd think I'd learn by now. I still get suckered into their scams, even when I'm low on money." Sliding down on the crisp green grass, the woman rested her lower back on her less than comfortable duffle, knowing full well she'd have to move in a moment before she got some form of back pain. She took in the warmth of the spring sun, closing her eyes briefly before the girl spoke again. Gaze snapping into her direction, she simply nodded to note that she was intently listening. "A ranch? So you must work with all kinds of animals in your business, huh?" She mused for a moment, before folding her hands into her lap and continued. "I adore animals, lovely creatures all of them. Of course, they have a tendency to hate me. Especially cats. Cats seem to have a personal vendetta against me." She was rambling now, but hardly cared. Any conversation was a good one in her books. Her eyebrows raised when Kayla asked where Entegony came from, a sincere smile crossing her lips. "Me?" She started, pausing only to blow her long bangs out of her eyes. "Well, let's see- I lived in England until I was eighteen..." She stopped again to think, before deciding to omit her last place of residence. Instead she simply shrugged and said, "I've been traveling ever since, I suppose." Sighing, the English woman fidgeted again, the duffle proving itself to be nothing like a pillow. While she was trying to find a comfortable position, she absently added, "Of course, at the moment I'm in a bit of a financial slump, and in need to raise a bit of funds for my travels, so I'll be around here for a while." Finally she stopped moving, her eyes looking up to the woman again, grin still present. "So, in your personal experience, what's it like here?" (Faaail. D: ) |

"Yeah, but, it's not really my business as much as it is my brother's...though I do help on occasion, when it's needed." ... Really, Kayla had little to do with the ranching part - though she did enjoy taking care of the sheep when she got the chance. She had named their own sheep, Connie, and enjoyed brushing the wool when there was enough of it, and especially when it was sheared. Not that she could ever make anything from the wool. They didn't currently have a yarn maker, and besides that, she wouldn't know what to do with the yarn anyhow. Her wandering mind finally snapped back into focus when Entegony mentioned about animals not really liking her, cats more so than most. Kayla laughed lightly, rocking backwards slightly, and, tilting her head, she answered with, "Well then, it's a good thing we don't presently have any cats. Just cows, sheep, and horses. Oh, and chickens." She stopped and listened attentively as the woman explained about where she had come from, and the basics about how she had come to the island. Kayla nodded, a serious expression on her face, to the mention of being in a financial slump. Smiling slightly, she looked around, and then said, "The foraging around here can be good at times. The Autumn is a really good season for foraging...though Spring and Summer aren't bad, either." Kayla added the last part quickly with a small giggle, seeing as how Autumn was still a ways off. There were really things to forage year-round, but in Winter, you just had to look harder. And then, she gave a small sigh, and looked off to a corner of the glade, and then glanced back at the woman with a raised brow, and she continued. "Truthfully? It can be rather boring, sometimes. Which is why taking random walks into the woods can be a good thing." She said, smiling. |
