  • Oh, this was so, sooo awkward. She shouldn't be there, she was positive she shouldn't be there -- everyone was chatting and eating and in holly jolly spirits and she was just kind of sitting there like a zombie, unmoving and untalking and uneating (she was still a little overwhelmed at the variety of foods) and she thought to get up and leave until Kin spoke to her. She wanted to get to know her...? Someone actually wanted to familiarize themselves with her, Lyra Lockette. "Um... okay."

Despite the fact that she'd been in this town for a while, Lyra really couldn't wrap her mind around the thoughts of its inhabitants.

Maybe she should try a bit of the turkey... some salad? What she really wanted to do was grab a nice big slice of pumpkin pie and dash back up to her room. Instead, she took herself the tiniest piece of turkey and let her ears open to the conversation around her, which was mostly Kin talking to the icy-looking guest. She didn't seem too comfortable around him -- maybe something happened between them? But he gave off an uncaring, kind of amused air.

Her mind flowed with a few speculations and ideas about what might have gone on between them but she was unable to observe much more once Blaise came along and started pouring wine into her glass, which... wouldn't have been too much trouble, if only he had stopped at the right point. Instead, he (probably distracted by some silly thought or another) let the wine ooze over the top, staining the cloth that had been draped over the dining table.

    ""Uh---Miss--ah---sorry! I'll get -- be right -- one moment,"

"Blaise..." Lyra muttered, her eyebrows knitting up slightly -- what the hell was he thinking? What, was he just nervous because this was his first time preparing such an elaborate meal for so many people? But he had been doing just fine a moment ago, and...

Before she could say or think anything more, the klutz of a guy stumbled back into the kitchen leaving her staring blankly at her filled-over-the-brim glass of wine. A trace of worry snuck into Lyra's mind and, without a word, she stood up and followed him into the kitchen, leaning against the doorway as her thoughts scrambled to piece words together.

    "What are you doing?"

My, wasnt he smooth? Watching as he raised his cup in toast, Kin shly did the same, seeming to be very accustomed with the matter of dinning. Indulging herself with a slight sip so that the wine only gracing her lips, the women placed the glass back down, hands folded gently. Her attention all the time on Cole, in chance he might make some move, and Kin would miss her chance to counteract it.

Her wicked Black knight? How delightful, the word delightful being used in the lowest of terms mind you. She watched carefully, eyes measuring the inches between the two, and each time he tried to lower those digits, Kin was right there to add them back up again. Yes, of course, how could she had let it slip her mind, of course he would be attending the festivals, and she would no doubt be right there at his side every moment of it.

Reaching for her wine glass yet again, Kin took a small sip, gem eyes closed while muttering something along the line of 'What of my Shinning Knight to save me from you? of course, this was said so only the two of them could hear her rude remark. Giving a slight cough, the girl fell back into her seat, eyes once again fixed on Lyra who sat across from her. Somehow, Blaise had appeared out of nowhere, offering the girl some wine, Kin watched as the liquid, slowly began to fill up the glass to the proper amount, but still the flow did not stop. Unsure that she should say anything, she finally spoke out seeing the liquid overflow.

"Becare-" it was too late, the wine had stained the beautiful tablecloth and sealed Kin's faith for tomorrow. Oh bother, it was always so hard to get out wine. Watching as the two vanished off into the kitchen area Kin sighed, turning to her empty plate letting out a sigh. Oh, how she was hungry...

"I wonder whats wrong with them.... Oh, Mr MacFarland, I left your finished costume on your bed, try it on, and see if there is anything that does not quite fit right."

  • He hoped that there would be no Knight in shining armor, as in his story books there was only the seductive man of the night who prevailed over everything else. Cole easily consumed the half glass of wine that Miss Kin had so graciously poured for him when the Chef had seemed to be incapable of doing anything without blunder. Silently, he reached forward for one wine bottle at almost the same time the Chef reached for the other.

Curious, Cole watched the blond haired young man and raised his brows in mild surprise when he sensed the panic rising within the man. Since his own glass was full enough for his tastes, Cole set the bottle back down in the center and paused for a moment when he realized that red wine was now overflowing out of the second maid’s wine glass and spreading across the maroon table cover.

Interesting, he thought as the chef stuttered out an apology and dashed away to the kitchen area in desperate search for something to clean the mess up with. The black haired woman wasted no time in excusing herself and promptly following. His cold stare followed her as she left, and he casually lifted his wine glass to his lips and took a sip. What had the Mayor been thinking, he silently wondered. If he was in control of this household, he would of gotten rid of that idiot of a Chef as soon as he had laid eyes on him. The man was obviously a walking disaster, and he could not fathom what had shaken him so thoroughly that he’d lost concentration and nearly drenched the maid in red wine.

I wonder what’s wrong with them,” Miss Kin said from beside him.

Cole didn’t reply because he had already found the answer. There was nothing wrong with them. The blond was simply lacking in the brain department. Perhaps, later on this evening, he could convince Mr. Thomas of the benefits of getting rid of the clumsy man. He would be far more useful…well, somewhere else where his clumsy nature wouldn’t get in the way. Cole turned his attention back to Miss Kin a moment later, as she was finishing up telling him that she had laid the festival costume on his bed and she would like him to try it on.

“I will do that,” he remarked lightly, brought himself forward and sat his glass down. “Now, Miss Kin, shall we begin eating or am I to starve the rest of the night?”

Really, he wasn't making much sense at all, even to himself. By the time Lyra approached him, he had his arms full with towels and dishrags and even a roll of paper towelettes; most likely, some off-kilter part of his brain that tended to exaggerate things (he should really get that checked) had sent the message that instead of cleaning/covering a simple wine stain, he should be preparing to clean a small white room after a huge decapitative killing massacre.

Though maybe he'd been expecting something like that from the very instant he saw that man--

"Shh!" Whirling around at the sound of her voice, he immediately thrust a towel in her direction, barely having time to register any relief that she hadn't spilled anything on her white dress. It was pretty. Would have been a shame. Moving on! "Be careful! There's... ah..."

For a second, his horrified eyes trailed back over to the table, and then quickly snapped back. The kitchen area was well within their earshot - even whispering, surely he and his friend could be heard. He couldn't act suspicious. Had to carry this out with some tact. (Uh, knock knock, too late for that..?)

"J-just watch your back," was his senseless warning, but it was really all he could come up with, being all ninja-sneaky like he was. He glanced over at Kin worriedly - the poor thing was trapped sitting beside that Notorious Criminal! How could he have been so stupid? If he'd done his homework ahead of time, he could have prevented this from happening - but, ah, Kin was capable of defending herself. She'd assured him of that already. Now he just had to make sure Lyra was safe.

"If the gues--- anyone strange says or does anything suspicious, don't hesitate to run or tell someone, okay?" He lectured under his breath, obviously giving his precious Lyra his own improved version of the Don't-Talk-To-Strangers-And-Don't-Get-In-The-Candy-Van talk.

While a normal persons attention would be on why Blaise was acting in such an abnormal way, Kins first and primary concern was with the red wine as is sunk deeper and deeper into the pure white table cloth. Almost instantly home remedies began flooding into her brain on how to remove the stain as quickly as possible. Seeing that she had no shaving cream or soda water, the maid was quick to reach over the table, grab the rather large container of salt, and dumb it right on the cloth with no hesitation. Only after she had sucessfully wasted the entire dinners worth of salt did she relize just how silly she must have looked.

Lowering herself back into her origanal postion, head finding its way between her breast Kin whispered meekly "Salt is the first response to a wine stain....I'll bleach it to death, later” feeling like an utmost fool, Kin silently wished she could just disappear into the chair. That or do something childish as covering her face all the while whispering to yourself 'I can't see you, they can't see me' Oh course, everyone knew that was just a silly game children made up at the end of the day out of boredom.

Seeing the two vanish, her attention turned back to the food, waiting oh so paitently for Kin to claim it as her own, and competly devour it. Everything looked so perfect, the turkey a warm shade of brown, the mashed patatoes covered in goozing hot butter and pepper. And the bread, oh the bread looked to die for, it was easy to tell it had just come out of the oven, by the way the steam rose off it.

Looking back from the food to Blaise and back to the food, her fingers itching to claim the patatoes and carrots as her own, then again her mother had always taught her to never begin eating till everyone had sat down and said grace. But, it looked so good! Finally her stomach made the decision that her mind in the end could not decide.

Handing the plate she had earlier taken from Cole, she placed it right in front of him before holding out her plate to him.

"If you're asking my persmission to eat, then no you may not," a small smile while playfully shovening her plate at him "but, I dont see why I cannot, some turkey please."

Best to try and get through this dinner as easily as possible. She just hoped Cole would not try any further advances.

  • If Lyra were the type of person to easily show shock, her jaw would have been hanging centimeters above the ground and her eyes would have stuck out like two snakes curling out of the sockets. She had always known, from the day Blaise had accidentally followed her into the women side of the bathhouse thinking she were a man (kind of an unpleasant thought), that he was a strange fellow, but wasn't he acting especially odd today? What with all the formal addressing and behavior and now his arms that were pretty much smothered in cleaning material – far more than needed for a small stain.

There was a what...? Her expression was as blank as an author's paper when they were facing a massive wall of writer's block, but on the inside she was dying to yank Blaise's tongue out and demand that he calm down and start over from the very beginning with what on earth he was trying to say and do.

“My back...” Lyra repeated dryly, tempted to roll her eyes. What kind of mad idea was whirling around in his mind now? “that might be hard seeing as my neck can't turn all the way.” she continued with sarcasm lining her voice. What – did he think there was some sort of savage serial killer running rampant through the Estate now?

“If the gues--- anyone strange says or does anything suspicious, don't hesitate to run or tell someone, okay?”

Okay, now he was starting to get somewhere. Maybe only a few tippy-toe steps forward, but it was something.

At least, now she knew who the guy was suspicious of... though, she couldn't quite understand why. Lyra shifted her body to glance at Cal, or Caine, or maybe it was Cole...? Yeah – Cole. That was the strange guest's name. He had pretty chilling eyes, and his posture was kind intimidating, but other than that she couldn't see anything wrong with him. Plus, Blaise was pretty oblivious to a person's true nature and inner thoughts, right?

    “What's wrong with the guest?”

  • Luckily, Cole had already dismissed the two other guests in the room and had focused his attention on both Miss Kin and the food that was slowly tormenting him with it’s intoxicating smell. And thus he was not paying close enough heed to the hushed noises coming from across the room, in the kitchen area, to be disturbed.

If you’re asking my permission to eat,” Miss Kin told him matter-of-factly as she held out her plate in the most peculiar manner. “Then no, you may not.” Before he could react to her persistence, he blinked in mild surprise when she began pushing her own plate toward him, and the smallest of a smile brought her lips curving upward. “But, I don’t see why I cannot, some turkey please.

He laughed then, the rumble coming out deep and smooth. Cole could do nothing to hold back the smile that was dawning on his own face, and his voice became husky and intentionally seductive as he slowly pulled the plate from her grasp and said, “Of course, my lady.” He wasted no time in further slicing the turkey with ease and then placed them onto her plate. “I’m completely at your service,” he smiled wickedly, “Is there anything else you want?”

Come to think of it, this wasn't right. At all. Oh, besides the morals - I mean, having a very epitome of Sin and Evil in a dinner hall meant to celebrate the bounty of the ever pure and holy Goddess was kind of warped, when you thought about it - what concerned Blaise especially was this man's misleading appearence.

Where was the bushy brow? The burly arms? The potbelly? The cold - oh, well, he supposed Mister MacFarland had the cold gaze thing down pat, but that was about it. Glancing nervously at him now, Blaise was once more caught off-guard. He was far too clean and... proper-looking to have committed so many cruel crimes.

(In the short timeframe since Kin had told him of that one incident, the crime in question became very plural.)

"Sh-shh!" And once again he tried to hush her while colour drained from his own face... although, this time he somehow managed to push a cloth (not too forcefully) over Lyra's mouth instead of just in her general direction. Shaking, all the while, like a frightened little lamb.

"It's -- we can't talk about this here," There was something very espionage/FBI/drug-ring-bust about the way Blaise was handling this all of a sudden. Every so often, his worried eyes would flicker over to the table to make sure he hadn't fled off into the night with Kin in tow, only the tiniest spark of relief brightening up when he saw that they were still just talking. Civilly. Although, the man's laugh made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up a bit.

"You should go back to the table," Pulling the cloth away a bit hesitantly, he motioned back to the dining area and went on to lighten his outrageous load of towels a little bit, "I'll explain everything later. Act natural. Stay calm." (You'd think he'd rather be giving this wise advice to himself...) "And, uhm, maybe don't drink too much wine. You'll be safer with a clear head."

  • Before she could even ask Blaise why the hell his face had just become a canvas of pure white terror, she found something – a handkerchief, covering her mouth and preventing anymore words from escaping. Whatever was going on in his mind must have been awfully frightening for the guy to react in such a manner, though... he was a bit of a drama king, it was likely that he was just overreacting and the whole thing was just some huuuuge misunderstanding.

And Lyra would have pointed this out, along with the fact that panicking wouldn't solve anything and that he should just calm down and think things through, if only the passage in which words escaped from her body hadn't been blocked. In a shaky, cowardly voice as if the man holding a conversation with the other maid was an assassin or something, Blaise shh'd her as if anything he said could be used to bring them all all to their deaths.

“It's -- we can't talk about this here,” god – why was he taking this so seriously? If the mayor of Obsidian had allowed this mysterious man to live inside of his home, had greeted him with open arms and a handful of courteousness, then he couldn't have been as dangerous (if at all) as Blaise seemed think he was.

Lyra reached her hand up to where Blaise held the cleaning utensil, her hand brushing slightly against his as she grabbed it and forced his arm back down, allowing herself to take a nice clean breath before talking once again. “I'll just ask him myself.” she said firmly, her eyes shooting up to meet Blaise's – it was clear she was annoyed, and she looked ready to turn around and confront the mayor's special guest right then and there.

Not that she wanted to – it didn't matter that today was the all-amazing Harvest Festival, she still didn't want to talk to any strangers. But she would if it would end the chaos that was a terrified Blaise.

While Blaise was telling Lyra to stay clear from the wine, Kin seemed to be heading in that exact direction. Figuring it would be best to get through this hell hole.... I mean dinner as painlessly as possible, and seeing that she had no intention of stabbing herself violently with a fork, or making herself throw up, the only logical situation was to drink herself into a complete and total daze. Handing her plate over towards Cole, Kin noticed the sudden change in his voice. She did not like it.

Letting out a nervous laugh, Kin made a bee line towards her half filled goblet. The wine was warm and sweet perhaps a bit too sweet for her own taste. But it was warm and the way it ran down her throat and settled into her stomach was somewhat of a comfort in the situation. Reaching for the wine bottle, she hastily filled it to the top and took another sip, the second being just as good as the first.

Taking her plate back only for a second a sudden idea popped into her head. Forcing it back into his hands the girl sat back, tall glass goblet laying effortlessly across her lips.

"On second thought, I would like pea's, mashed potatoes, a bit of gravey, and cranberry sauce" pausing for a mere second to take a tiny sip of the wine. "Oh, and servant, don't let any of it touch eachother."

(( sry for taking so long, its horrible i know. My parents are fighting (like always) and it always puts me in a horrible mood....))

  • Either she rather enjoyed wine, or she was one who drank it when she was acquainted with stress, embarrassment, or any other problem that may make her feel uncomfortable. Strangely, Cole could understand the latter. He, himself, had the problem of turning to alcohol to solve his problems, especially ones that involved acute pain, nausea, fever, and an uncontrollable trembling.

His good mood faltered for the slightest of a moment at the dark thoughts that had entered his mind without warning. But, just as quickly as it had come Cole banished it to the darker parts of his soul. And not a second later, Miss Kin was lounging back in her chair looking as though she had just discovered she was Queen and in full reign. Then she was haughtily ordering him to serve her more food. His smile was instantly back in place, and he found himself having quite a bit of fun with the devious little maid who couldn’t decide if she disliked having him around or liked having him around.

“As you wish,” he told her simply and then turned toward the table and began doing exactly as she had instructed. A few moments later, when he turned back with her plate in hand, it now had the added peas, mashed potatoes, gravy, and cranberry sauce all placed apart. Leaning over, he gently placed the dish down in front of her before turning his head so that his lips brushed across the hair right over her ear. “Perhaps, I will have to ask for favors in return,” he whispered, the meaning clear.

(( Ah yeah. D: It's never fun when parents fight. ))

What--what? Kamikaze? Suicidal? Already intoxicated? Blaise's jaw dropped at what she suggested doing - confronting the beast! - and his panic meter, already bubbling at a steady rise, blew the freaking roof.

Boom?

"No! You can't! That's -- you'd be--" And he continued to make less and less sense with every word, naturally, "He'll get you too!"

The thought of Lyra - poor, fragile, quiet, sweet Lyra being corrupted by this madman - it made his stomach nearly strangle itself in some acrobatic intestinal chokehold. Before any organs had the chance to fail, though, he'd made up his mind, and raced past the woman in a brisk, determined, life's-on-the-line march back into the dining area.

If she pulled anything rash, this way he'd be there to jump in the way and save the day, right?

However, first he was struck with an unpleasant vision, one that practically screamed lewdness and suggestivity and all those ugly traits a gentleman should never have - he saw the Criminal himself, leaned over toward Kin, whispering something directly into her ear, while she looked to somehow be in a (no doubt distressed) daze. That is not just civil, not just civil! Alarms went off noisily in his head, and somewhere along the line it's possible a tiny fraction of his composure gave a tiny fraction of a snap.

"I hope everyone's enjoying the meal!" He announced loudly, practically slamming the towel he'd brought down to soak up any more of the stain on the table. For a second, there seemed to be some hostility in his friendly green eyes - it flickered away instantly though, and then the man was left just looking utterly confused.

"A-ah..." Faltering, he looked down at his hand in shock, as if wondering did i just do that? He quickly retreated then, summoning up his very best and very nicest Everyone's Favourite Neighbourhood Chef smile. "Wua... Once again, please feel free to help yourselves to anything on the table. Dessert will be served after everyone is finished, and if you'd like a glass refilled or anything please let me know."

Suspiciously (but as covert as Blaise-ly possible), he eyed the man known as Mister MacFarland; why wasn't he eating? Was this some kind of protest? Message? Declaration of war?

Oh. He winced a little. Wouldn't that be terribly unfortunate...

...for Blaise.

  • He would... get her too? What did Mr. MacFarland look like to Blaise, the bogeyman? But before she could continue questioning and trying to squeeze explanations out of him, the paranoid blond shot out into the dining room much like a cheetah dashing after it's prey, only – less powerful bounds and more clumsy (but still there) steps.

For a moment, all Lyra could do was kind of blink and look at him before her angle changed to the starry-haired guest and the other maid, both in a position that kind of... startled the girl. So maybe this was why Blaise was so panic-driven. He must've liked this Kin-girl, and so his mind was going crazy at the fact that this mysterious and handsome (two very sah-woooon traits) guest also seemed interested in her.

That was probably the first time Lyra had misunderstood something to such bar-raising extent. But her mind was on a role and all she felt was the pride in having been able to figure the guy out without any hints or clues.

But... should she help him? Her thoughts wandered as the maid started walking to her seat, her gaze flickering towards Blaise every once and again to take note of the... was it hate, or maybe just anger...? that was in his face. It was unusual (at least, she'd never seen it) for him to show such an expression, and as she finally seated herself back in her chair she felt almost compelled to help him.

Only, how would she do that?

At once, the (quite rusty, for she rarely used her imagination) gears in her mind started to spin and an idea came to her. Maybe, if she caught the guest's attention, then he would leave Kin alone which would result in a calmed down and happy happy Blaise who would finally get some alone time with the woman he wanted.

But... ugh, Lyra had never been good at socializing or saying hi and each time she opened her mouth, it snapped shut again.

Until she gave up and looked straight at Cole in some sort of blank, trying to grab a snippet of his attention, stare.
